OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
hotlipsmummy · 08/01/2007 14:28

I too had an episiotomy with DS - he was a forceps delivery!! Wish I had known about witch hazel then as was bloody painful so will be def stocking up this time round. It took a few weeks to heal. I have a friend whose little one came out with her hand by her ears and my friend tore the whole way round . She's pg again and having an elective cs this time because of risk of permanent incontinence!!! So don't feel i can complain too much...

We too are in the cat club with 2 ginger toms! Maveta's comments on trying to get them into the boxes made me virtually impossible task in this house, thank goodness they hardly ever need to go to the vets - or am i just a bad cat mummy...

1becomes3 · 08/01/2007 14:29

I was upset at the thought of never actually giving birth naturally but all these stories have just made me glad i am going to be sliced and diced again, don't fancy a tear in my neathers, must hurt when you have to pee! [owwww]

hotlipsmummy · 08/01/2007 14:31

and yes - sorry if all tmi for the first timers! Its does heal and we're all here doing it again for second, third, forth times... and the shock of having a baby to look after will make you forget about your nether region anyway

BigBellyCornflakeKid · 08/01/2007 14:35

just one more thing - don't ever opt for more than one in/out catheter - it really aggrevates your urinary tract - go for proper cather!

I have had both types of delivery and tbh I don't mind what happens either way - just as long as he comes out - preferably two weeks early!

doginsantasgrotto · 08/01/2007 14:47

Hi everyone

My DH too doesn't 'see through' his washing up duties and leaves sink scummy and worktops unwiped. Have learned to live with it and just grateful for the sentiment! Funny that they all seem to be like it though!

I was wondering about whether Rescue Remedy might be a useful thing to take around the start of labour? Any thoughts. thanks for tips re. witchazel and arnica etc.

I have bought a grobag 0-6m in a low tog and am now wondering if with it being almost summer when our LOs are born I should have got a 6-12m one. Any thoughts?

Also, more paranoia. Is it OK to eat peanuts?

Sorry, am struggling to change festive name back!

mammyjo · 08/01/2007 14:53

I think if you have a family history of things like asthma and eczema (and other allergen induced type things) then the advice is not to eat peanuts. Not sure if there is evidence to suggest that babies exposed to peanuts inside the womb have a higher risk of peanut allergy plus asthma etc.

mammyjo · 08/01/2007 15:13

Where did everybody go?!

mammyjo · 08/01/2007 15:22

I have hardly been on here for a few weeks, I come back and you all bugger off!! Was it something I said?! Dont think I smell, had shower today!!

muminabigtumi · 08/01/2007 15:28

God... I think I'm glad I'm having a C Section after hearing about the tearing - YOWIE!!!

I had to laugh at the talk of husbands....mine has driven me bonkers...I have nagged him incessantly to put the xmas decs in the loft and they have sat there a week. On Sunday - he had been up since 7am and wondered why I was annoyed that people were coming to visit and he still hadn't put the bloody box away....and what is it with them and tumble dryers. I quite agree about not letting them near washing but he would never think of emptying or loading the dryer....god love them!

Just had an ok morning at work - my appraisal was actually really good and I was really chuffed when the Dr told me I was an assett to the surgery and that he couldn't fault my work glows with pride this is despite the fact I managed to actually lose my appraisal form whilst walking down the corridor to his office I had to wing it in the end as I just couldn't find it - he said he would blame it on my "condition"lol

Got home and the lollipop lady rang about the real nappies and I am going to a "Nappucino" afternoon on Thursday at the local library where they will show me all the different types of real nappy. There are also refreshments and the local council give you £45 incentive to spend on real nappies - RESULT! SO thnak you for the advice to contact them...I'm sure it was you BBCFK but apologies if it wasn't.....

Oooh just had a delivery of a beautiful bouquet of flowers from my Dad for my anniversary (he forgot!!!lol) thats cheered me up and a black cat has just come in through the cat flap and eaten all my cats food - the cheek! lol My cat is just staring at it...he's so soft!

Well best go - got to go to the dreaded Tesco!

glitterkitty · 08/01/2007 15:31

I'm here! waves just had hideously dull meeting from hell in hot room- and babe was still in post-lunch kick frenzy- I kept going into vacant trance/letting out little involuntary 'ow's.

I'm definatly going to get the witch hazel- sounds great!

Oh, while I remember, has anyone else got fibroids? I was told at my last scan mine were low, and might possibly interfere with the baby getting out? So I have to have another scan at 34 weeks to check (yay!). Not too worried tho- worst case is c-section- & after reading all this about tearing that dosent sound too bad!

1becomes3 · 08/01/2007 15:58

GK I've got fibroids have had them since I was 18, doctors told me I would never be able to have children yeah and look at me go!

Just thought I would share that i know it is no help.

1becomes3 · 08/01/2007 16:01

Just read the peanut thing, my BIL is a twin and he has a peanut allergie and his twin doesn't

Full of useless information today!

glitterkitty · 08/01/2007 16:10

1become3- yay you! I was ttc for 4 yrs- and everyone told me when I got pg 'you see? you must have given up hope/stopped worrying/relaxed, and that made it happen!' In what way was that meant to be helpful- like I stopped myself from conceieving before? Errr- no, I have fibroids and endometris - having laparoscopy did the trick.

So sorry- hormone surge made me rant

mammyjo · 08/01/2007 16:10

Hooray, you are back! I have to say despite my tearing last time I would still not want a c section. Weird isnt it how you form a preference even though I have no idea what recovery from a section would be like.

1becomes3 · 08/01/2007 16:15

mammyjo it is not fun i can tell you, mind you some people heal really quickly SIL was up walking around the next day mine too me 2 weeks to recover from, I couldn't do anything. Poor DH had to change my pads let me stand on his back so i could get into bed. I hated it, but I am glad that I have on this time round because i just don't think i could go throught the terrible time I did with DD, I am not looking forward to it though.

muminabigtumi · 08/01/2007 16:32

Oh I ended up not going to Tesco - just done it online instead - will have to cobble something together for tea instead!
x

1becomes3 · 08/01/2007 16:38

Mammyjo you said your Ds was born by ventouse, my DD was a failed ventouse and I have to say if i had to give anyone any advice it would be DO NOT let the Dr's talk you into a ventouse, poor little DD came out with a cone of pulsating fluid on her head, the poor thing had to under go weeks of treatment my an osteo what's it (pg brain )
I think it is a barbaric thing to do to something so small.

Has anyone else had ventouse and what did you think of it.

Whendoobygotstuckupthechimney · 08/01/2007 16:49

Happy New Year Everyone!Lots to catch up on i see
I am knackered and everything aches and i am paranoid[of course it couldn't be trivial]Feel anxious about lots of things at the moment som i feel it is best not to inflict myself on anyone!Going to catch up now ladies.
I am approx 27 weeks on Thur and section on 4th April!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

hotlipsmummy · 08/01/2007 16:53

wow dooby - are you the first one to get a definiate "arrival" date for the baby? How exciting!

Birdiebump · 08/01/2007 17:05

I last posted on Thursday and it has taken me ONE & A HALF HOURS to catch up!

By the way I'm having a schizo name moment - I was Greengirlforever, then HollyandMistletoeforever then Greenbowlingballupjumper (trying to keep to a theme) but have now abandoned all these as being too long and annoying and taken up the moniker above.

Re the hot topics of the moment:
Sex - no! (But if I do will check out some of these new positions....)
Pregnancy - also not enjoying it much but am very grateful to be pg IYSWIM.
Homebirth - last one was but also want a rest this time....
Cats - wish I had some!
Washing up - DH is also better than me and tells me off for some of the very things you lot are complaining about ....
Food/Drink - Tend to be careful but not too paranoid - the odd glass of wine etc.
Aren't I exciting!

I WANT A DEFINITE DUE DATE TOO DOOBYDOO!!! There is a song in there somewhere ... But I'd like my date to be the end of March please... Not due till 12th April and always VERY late before.

BigBellyCornflakeKid · 08/01/2007 17:10

I thought ventouse was fine - cone head baby for a few days and did seem a bit harsh on the poor thing but he did come out quickly! Three guys on the end of it pulling for all their might was called 'moderate force' LOL Think dh was more shocked by the force of it than me - I was just relieved he was coming out. Also with feet up in stirrups couldn't really see what was happening.

When had section with ds1 they had to pull him back out of the pelvis with forceps because he was so engaged - but didn't see that either!

Bachs rescue remedy seems like a good idea.

Muminabigtumi - who is your lollipop advisor? I love going to Nappucinos - cloth nappy addict heaven

BigBellyCornflakeKid · 08/01/2007 17:12

I would like a date too - preferably beginning of April

liath · 08/01/2007 17:12

It'll be a 25 month gap here so at least we'll have a bit of mutual support coping with the terrible twos AND a new baby !!

The low tog 0-6 grobag should be OK for early/late summer. Forgot who asked (seive brain here) though we had some days last year where dd was sleeping in just a nappy, not what you expect in the Frozen North!

Can't remember what else I was going to say....

Oh yes - got torn to shreds with dd (she says, chirpily) but it was amazing how well it all healed and I honestly didn't care at the time. It certainly doesn't put me off doing it again. Can you imagine if blokes were the ones giving birth, though ?

Happy anniversary, MIAM and well done with your appraisal. I hate having them! I've managed to postpone mine till after mat leave.

Birdiebump · 08/01/2007 17:21

Forgot to say - DS1 was a failed ventouse (used forceps instead) but apart from a couple of marks which faded quickly on his head he was fine. Wouldn't like to go through that sort of thing again though....

bubblez · 08/01/2007 17:29

Hiya all,

Ok has taken hour and 15 to catch up with all the goss, but brain like a sieve so apolls if I miss out anyone or thing...

RH, CD, WCL - So glad that others are having homebirths too. Midwife came round and "ok"ed me for my first homebirth..a little worried but in my circumstances I just feel like it will be more relaxing. Also I've arranged that my dad picks up dd and has her overnight when I go into labour, so will get to relax bigtime after birth.

Katybumps - I would love to work in a nursery!!!!! Oh I have so many questions for you! When baby is old enough I want to do a CACHE course and then hopefully go on to do the CACHE NVQ level3 diploma.. Hopefully it'll put me in good stead for working in a nursery.

RH - HAPPY BELATED BDAY!!

GMM - Some tescos are doing crispy creme doughnuts too.

Ok I think that is it. As for me I am feeling ok today. A little worried that I don't as yet have anything for the baby, esp as time is going so fast . But apart from that everything is fine.

27 weeks
