Also ladies, tell me I am ok using the same mattress in the moses basket with DC2 as DC1. It has been vacuum pack since DC1 was about 4 months old. It seems overkill buying a new one when it wasn't used that much in the first place.

We are getting a new mattress for the cot just not keen on the extra spend for the moses basket.

BelOfTheBall79 · 07/04/2016 22:23

Youandme so sorry to hear about your GD. Hope it can all be managed OK.

Bluebell I think option b is the goer!

Cookies I know what you mean re sleeping (or not). And then when you do drift off there's a bloody vivid dream to scare you! I dreamt that my baby's foot basically came out of my belly when he was kicking. Totally weird. I blame my first nct class as it happened that night!

dats · 07/04/2016 23:18

Youandme balls to that result. That's so frustrating Sad Hope you feel a bit better about it now it's sunk in Flowers

Cookies I kept thinking about your BMI thing today, what on earth were they thinking?? It's utterly unscientific, insane, pointless, unhelpful - just ridiculous.

Bluebell def think you're doing the right thing in terms of rooms. You need to look at what (who!) the majority of your time will be taken up by and plan around that. Don't compromise your nursery space if you don't have to. Plus although it would be a pain, nothing is set in stone - you could always have a switch round at a later date.

I saw midwife today for 25w appt. Eventhough you aren't meant to get one for subsequent babies, mine still like to give you the option so I thought I'd go along. Heard nice, strong heartbeat but she didn't measure me - didn't occur to me until afterwards. I now I have to call my GP's surgery to make a triple whammy nurse appt for 28w bloods, whooping cough and Lucozade pre-GT test. I've remembered how that works, now.

And then I saw osteo about my PGP and I think that helped, too. Definitely less undercarriage pressure this evening and I don't think the babe has moved as I still feel movements in the same really low, left hand corner.

So glad it's Friday tomorrow!

bel I must have been tired last night I went to bed after I put DDs to bed and slept for 12 hours Blush

goingloopy Sounds like a memorable viability day! She's having lots of fun in there Wink I wouldn't replace my Moses basket mattress. Wasn't used a great deal, neither was my crib one, (was a bit of a naughty co sleeper) so I shall be using them again. I'm with you. I will replace my cot one as was used for 3 yrs and has seen better days.

Thanks dats encouraging to hear again what I already think and helps so thank you.
Peoples kind words still don't seem to completely shift being told by a midwife that you've put on too much weight unfortunately. Cow.

Sophia1984 · 08/04/2016 09:04

Bluebell Could you hang a curtain to divide the big room and hide all your junk behind it?

The Joie carseat doesn't have a base - it fixes in with a seatbelt, but wasn't too much of a faff to get it in and out. You wouldn't be able to do it without waking up baby though, as the belt goes under his bum!

Sophia1984 · 08/04/2016 09:04

Not a big deal for us as we're only using it for long journeys (will normally be on bus) but can imagine it would get annoying for an 'everyday' seat.

minieggaddict · 08/04/2016 09:19

Goingloopy - I'm using same mattresses in Moses basket and cot as with dd. Have bought new one for crib which is where he'll be at night to start but that's cos two nieces have used it since dd and then its been in my mums loft. I guess I'd think how it's been stored and if you can clean it first before rushing out to buy new?!

foobio · 08/04/2016 10:04

Jem double check the advice on the sleepyhead and cocoonababy regarding overnight sleeping, I have a feeling that one of them has been certified for overnight sleeping, and the other is only supposed to be for naps. I think one of them also unclips at one end so baby doesn't outgrow it quite so soon. Sorry not very helpful as all from memory - I need to redo my own research, had ruled them out as too expensive, but the though of second hand brings them back in the picture!

Bluebell20 · 08/04/2016 10:10

Thanks everyone for the advice on the room! Elliz I may follow your example and draw a plan! Much easier to move paper furniture around than the real thing...! And dats, good point about nothing being set in stone.

Cheery, another good point about having to accept that some stuff is just going to have to go. The trouble with being both crafty and bookish is that I have rather a lot of craft materials and books... I think my other trouble is that, because my mum died and my parents were separated, I ended up taking on a lot of the family stuff when we sold her house, e.g. all of her photograph albums, her wedding dress, mementos from my own childhood, and so on. Over the years I have really pared back on 'mum' things, including splitting up all the photographs and forcing my brother and dad to take a third each (!), but I think I have got to the point now that I would regret getting rid of anything else. Tricky.

Sophia good idea about the curtain - unfortunately neither room is really big enough, and they both only have one window! Thanks for the info on the car seat.

Bumped into our lovely neighbour last night, who asked if I wanted to come round and look at all her baby stuff at some point, to see if there was anything I wanted to borrow. Including a maxicosy car seat! Yippee. I have my fingers crossed that she might have a Moses basket in her baby stash that I can just buy a new mattress for...!!!!

allthegoodnamesalreadytaken · 08/04/2016 10:15

So sorry ladies I've searched high and low but can't find the silly voucher code leaflet for the Red Cross course. I think I may have thrown it away at the same time I got rid of all the other leaflets I for at the show because I knew I wasn't going to book it. I've asked mum to have a look through all her bits for the show as well because I think she was also given one so if she comes back with anything I'll post it here.

youandme sorry to hear about your GD that's so crappy - especially as it was borderline. Hoping the rest of the pregnancy flies by for you so you don't have to be on a restricted diet for too long.

I had my 26 week appointment with the midwife today and got my GTT results - all were normal thank goodness, I literally have the worst most sugary diet (including having jelly babies for breakfast at times Hmm) so was expecting the worst. All the worry over GD has made me reflect on my diet and I'm determined to adopt a healthier approach for the next 14 weeks and beyond.

I like the look of the sleepyhead but probably won't be getting one because of the cost. After shelling out for a cot bed, a chicco next to me and a carrycot I don't think DH would be too chuffed at parting with over £100 for another "sleeping device" I saw this life hack somewhere else on MN a while ago about how to make your own sleepyhead so I might try it Grin

Top tip allthegood, thanks!

If anyone was interested in the washable baby wipes - Cheeky Wipes - I was talking about, they have just sent me a refer-a-friend 15% discount voucher for purchases of over 40 pounds. cheekywipes.refr.cc/8RC6ZJL Full disclaimer - if this gets used, I also get a fiver off my next order, but as I've already ordered everything I could imagine I could possibly need, this is maybe not so helpful to me ;)

SpeakNoWords · 08/04/2016 14:04

foobio it's the Sleepyhead that unclips at the end to allow for a longer baby. We used it for a good while, despite DS being a very long baby. Both the Sleepyhead and the Cocoonababy are fine for overnight sleeping.

photographerlady · 08/04/2016 14:14

Hey ladies trying to play catch up.

My pain is slowly getting less painful. No more trips to hospital but have a physio session in a couple of weeks. Going to see if they want to give me a belt to see if it helps. I think I have maybe just been over doing it with work and cleaning house lately. Taking it a lot more easy this past few days and even though I still have some pain its manageable.

breastfeeding plan this time if to get more support and stay at the birthing centre longer. Last time I was induced for 2 days, a lot of blood loss and then went home without seeing the lactation consultant (staff said my latch look fine) after a day. Problem was my supply wasn't coming in, lactation consultant didn't care as I was no longer in hospital and all the home visitors panicked more about the weight loss of my DD they actually told me three days in I was starving her to death and should give her a bottle. I mixed fed for 8 weeks and it was hell. This time round will be so different and hope to get better support.

Cookiesandcoffee I also put on 2 stone and got the bmi talk. Tbh its a lot more weight than I wanted to gain and my eating hasn't been crazy. Hopefully your midwife etc will be more helpful its hard to not take their comments personally.

bluebell hows the nursery coming along. The biggest bedroom at the moment is my daughters, mainly because we are in a 3 bedroom house and the smallest is the study. We kind of need a study as my DH works from home. The biggest has been great as the baby is going to share with her big sister and they need the room.

Ellizardo · 09/04/2016 08:23

Do we need a new thread folks?! I will attempt to start one if no one has already.
