I had such a pleasant surprise coming out of work!! My step dad and my sister came to visit me!! I havent seen my dad since beginning of December and my sister end of January so it was lovely to see them! Needless to say I broke down in tears when I saw them! No ones made an effort to come see me (other than my aunt) since I moved away, always been me to travel by train back home it was just nice for someone else to make the effort for once Smile great Easter to say the least Grin

GoingLoopyQuickly · 27/03/2016 22:03

Is it possible for the baby to move too much? I remember panicking about this last time but can't remember the advice

dats · 27/03/2016 22:19

Thanks for the welcomes Smile

GoingLoopy I think the advice is around whether there's been a sudden change in movements - if you are worried, always get checked over. That said, weeks 24-28 are also said to be potentially the most active. I guess because they're bigger but still have room to flail about in there!

No direct advice I'm afraid, both mine seem to have inherited my laziness been on the quiet side!

Hope you're ok.

GoingLoopyQuickly · 27/03/2016 22:32

Thanks Dats. I am 22+4 but this evening the baby has gone nuts. It is like it has been replaced by an overactive oversized centipede practicing martial arts.

dats · 27/03/2016 22:37

How many Easter eggs have you had? WinkEaster Wink

primarynoodle · 27/03/2016 22:43

Scase so sorry to hear about your mum - dps mum is an nhs mental health nurse and has had ribs broken/black eyes etc from dealing with patients. Other countries employ security guards to accompany health care professionals in dangerous situations! If only the government felt that protecting front line nhs staff was a priority Hmm

In terms of movement i have had reduced/increased/reduced/increased since week 20.. with my anterior placenta i think i will try to keep calm unless it has been 2 hours+ since last movement and i have been concentrating for all of that time.

Also am 25 weeks today and barely consumed any food. Had a chicken salad for dinner and threw it all back up an hour later... its like there is no room for any food in my body anymore it is all baby! Any tips from mums who have already been through this stage?

GoingLoopyQuickly · 27/03/2016 23:03

No easter eggs here Dats. Just a little chocolate from my easter chicken this morning! Lol.

I think the summersaults may have slowed down. I was just taken by suprise. If it continues I might give the assessment unit a call. I think I was told to chill last time!

dats · 28/03/2016 00:09

Oh good, GoingLoopy - fingers crossed!

primary I've got an anterior placenta this time, too. Although I'm not noticing a huge difference from last time when it was posterior Hmm And I hear you on the food thing. I've got hardly any appetite; when I do eat I feel like there's no room. No tips from me except carbs are the worst (unsurprisingly). But doesn't sound like your dinner was carby... It's such a joy, this preg lark, innit..?!

primarynoodle · 28/03/2016 09:21

Well i retract my earlier issue (although to be fair it still stands!)... was up all night throwing up so think it must have been a sickness bug?

Im starting to really panic about the amount of stuff that needs to be done for baby now :/ need to get the nursery painted before anything else and that won't be done til post 30 weeks! ShockCake

Bluebell20 · 28/03/2016 09:42

Gutted for you, primary! Get well soon. I am also starting to get a panic on. Part of my problem is that I have had a few vague promises of secondhand stuff from people, but I don't know exactly what it will be or whether it is what I want.

For example, a colleague has offered her car seat, but her daughter is now 8, so I'm not sure if that will be too old to be safe? And my brother-in-law has said they will pass on anything that they have bought for their little boy - but he will only be 7 months when ours is born, and I'm not sure what he will have grown out of - I am cheekily hoping he will be too big for his Sleepyhead by then!! And another friend has said she will look in her loft, but she is going through a crisis at the moment and that absolutely has to come first.

It doesn't help that DH is very firmly in the camp of, 'He's a baby, he just needs to be warm, dry and fed.' He keeps going on and on about those Scandinavian cardboard boxes that the government provides for babies to sleep in!

Vikkijayne2507 · 28/03/2016 09:48

I'm very bored doing diabetes test. In terms of movement I feel way way more than last time, 2nd baby, posterior vs anterior and general baby temperament makes a difference. He's been more quiet recently in the day but if I sit Back after eating dinner he gives a few big kicks. With ds1 I didn't feel hardly any movement until 27 ish weeks and he was a lazy bugger. Certainly not anymore lol. He woke up when I had the very sugary lemon drink for a few kicks but settled down again.

GoingLoopyQuickly · 28/03/2016 09:55

Bluebel. I wouldn't worry about having stuff. You will probably find that supermarket value babygros will get you through the first few months, by which time you will know more what you need. That means you can have a look at car seats for peace of mind and probably find one you like from kiddicare for less money than you think.

julfin · 28/03/2016 10:00

Primarynoodle I think there's still plenty of time - no need to panic. Admittedly we don't have a nursery to paint, but I'm working on the basis that we'll do everything much later (as we don't have much space and don't want to get too much stuff until we really need it). I'm planning to get stuff sorted by 34 weeks (because one of my friends recently had a baby at 34 weeks and I don't want to get caught short) and so I've allocated the couple of weekends just before that for buying/organising stuff. Of course if there are good sales before that then I'll make the most of it (and I'll certainly be compiling lists before then, and clearing out our storage spaces) but on the whole I'm planning to wait. Maybe if you're anything like me, making some lists and a schedule will help you to feel that things are under control?

Sorry to hear about your mum, Scase. That's really rough.

I still seem to be on a bit of an emotional rollercoaster. Hope others who are having down-days are coping ok.

My DH is starting to seem excited about the baby, which is quite a big step (he'd happily not have had children, and has been really nervous about the whole concept of being a father, including being a 40s father). I think it's still quite scary for him but he's getting used to the idea! He strokes my tummy to feel kicks - sweet! Does anyone else have OHs who are taking a while to adjust to the idea?

Happy Easter Monday everyone!

Bluebell20 · 28/03/2016 10:14

GoingLoopy thanks for the reassurance.

Julfin, you could have knocked me down with a feather when my DH suggested trying for a baby - I'd been ready for two or three years and had thought he'd never come round to the idea. I think for us it helped that it was DH's 'idea'. He was, however, very determinedly not excited for the first three or so months of pregnancy - assuming the worst at every step, which was really difficult for me (especially as I am naturally a pessimist and really needed to be boosted). He got much more excited when he finally felt him kick at about 20 weeks.

He also cracked me up earlier this week when we were out with friends, who were on a bit of a bender night. We left early - ain't no way I'm staying up till 6am sober! - and DH (who was rather tipsy) kept saying, 'This baby is coming at absolutely the right time for me!' He was loving his get-out-of-an-all-nighter-free card!

I really and truly think it takes longer for blokes to get their heads round it because they aren't going through the physical changes that pregnancy involves - nothing is really changing for them, at that point, whereas our bodies are preparing right from square one.

primarynoodle · 28/03/2016 10:45

Problem is julfin that we cant buy anymore stuff until its painted as we will have nowhere to put it during painting... and the next holiday i have to sort stuff out after it is done will be may half term when ill be 36 weeks!

I really did think we had ages left but the weeks are disappearing so quickly! (Thank god...)

Sophia1984 · 28/03/2016 10:58

Bluebell I had a bit of a panic about car seats last night, even though we don't have a car! Mum has found us a secondhand pram, but I want to get a new car seat for safety reasons and it is an absolute minefield knowing what to buy! Was going to borrow a co-sleeping crib from friend but that's fallen through so am going to use Moses basket my mum's friend gave us. Luckily my parents have spare room now all us kids are out so everything is being stored there! My DP is of the same 'he can sleep in a drawer if he has to' camp! x

Bluebell20 · 28/03/2016 14:11

Sophia I was looking into co-sleeping cribs but I actually think I prefer the idea of a Moses basket anyway - my husband and I are both terrible duvet-shifters, and I don't like the idea of accidentally throwing the duvet over the co-sleeper while fast asleep.

GoingLoopy just thinking about baby activity, I have been working (and posting on MumsNet, haha) since 9am today, and I reckon I've felt the baby moving at least every ten minutes. He is absolutely non-stop at the moment - my tummy is jumping away as I type this! I've never heard of lots of movement being a problem, so I'm not worrying - just enjoying!

BelOfTheBall79 · 28/03/2016 14:18

DH is in the nursery sanding and painting as I write. He has a week to do it as we're getting it carpeted next Monday. I'm a bit concerned I'm focusing on the wrong thing...spending ages scouring the Internet for stuff to make the nursery nice, vs actually buying things we need like car seat, cot, pram etc. I think it's because I am quite good at home decorating but feel way out of depth with the baby stuff! Still, a good few weeks to go yet...

AnnaT45 · 28/03/2016 14:36

Happy Easter all! Hope you all had a nice break and to those who worked got an extra egg!

goingloppy DD did not stop moving. It was awful actually and barely got any sleep... She is still that way now! There is nothing to worry about just got an active one! It's hard to not worry about movement but it's so hard even after 28 weeks as they change pattern a lot. Go with your gut, if you're ever worried go to the maternity ward and get checked. They don't mind.

scasce your poor mum! I hope she is ok

Try not to worry about getting things ready. I know it's hard as I get anxiety in pregnancy and I'm normally mega laid back. I had everything ready for my first at about 37 weeks and this one will probably be later as we're hopefully moving when I'm 31 weeks! I know it's not a nice thought but if baby were to come early they would be hospital to start so don't worry too much. The main things you need is somewhere for baby to sleep and bedding, clothes and nappies, bottles and steriliser if needed and a car seat. That said all those things can be bought straight away from shops or ordered online. Try not to worry you still have plenty of time. I think doing research and choosing is the bit that takes a while so focus on that if you can.

We've started to sort through all our cupboards ahead of moving. We're going to get movers in to pack us but I don't want to move crap from here to the new house so making it a mission to tackle a section of the house each week. I'm itching to do a spring clean but I'll need to do that when we move out so trying to resist. I'm so cool Blush

Cookiesandcoffee · 28/03/2016 20:18

scase how horrible your poor mummy. I hope she is ok. So much respect for nurses and those with mental/drug health issues.

Hope everyone has had some good movements and lots of eggs Smile

DIY weekend and we have an an actual physical room for baby. No proper walls yet so I can't start painting, boo.
Ate so much chocolate I made myself go to the gym and body pump this evening. I may have very nearly hit bump with a barbell. Oops. Some moves are becoming a bit physically challenging Blush

sophia I would always buy a new car seat but that's me personally. With experience I would go with one that's light but well known. I love my maxi cosi and is compatible with most travel systems. I had a different one for DD1 (7 years ago) and hated it. Was really heavy.

Second hand Moses baskets are great but I would buy a new mattress personally. My DH is similar with the drawer thing! Loads of friends rave about co sleeper bedside cots but I've found they seem pricey?

julfin my DH is always 'Unexcited' during pregnancy. It's hard sometimes but they change so much once baby is here, and it's all real!

bluebell I would get a few cheapy basics to make you feel better? Eg nappies or reusables.. Maybe a pack or two of supermarket babygrows/vests? But I wouldn't panic too much just yet. Can you buy for your hospital bag instead?

primary hope you are ok Thanks

GoingLoopyQuickly · 28/03/2016 20:52

Cookies and coffee. I am am actually jealous of your pump. I was advised not to do it with pg1 and then found none of the classes matched the gym crèche so I have done it in almost three years! There is one class that matches but I don't like the instructor's style. I think when I get back to it after this baby I will give it a another go.

Thank you all ladies for reassuring me on the movement. I am making the most of the placenta being in the right place and feeling the acrobatics going on.

I bought a yoghurt maker today. Anyone here got experience/tips. I bought one as a gift too so I am testing it first!

Mar19901 · 28/03/2016 22:58

Ah they are so cute don't know what we are having so I'm sticking with the whites or off white colours until little one is here Hmm

AnnaT45 · 29/03/2016 08:58

Ah love the clothes Thom! Gorgeous. Don't worry Mar I'm in the same boat! But in my experience it gives you something to do during the night feeds. Bit of online shopping Grin

I can't remember who recommended nip and fab skincare but thank you! Been using for four days and my spots are clearing up! It's much cheaper than my normal stuff so I'm really chuffed. Also it's on a third off at boots currently if anyone is looking.
