OK, so I have the positive pregnancy testS! - we have told one person, are agonising about who else to tell when, we have bought two books on pregnancy.

But what happens next? Do I just phone the doctor tommorow to make an appointment, should I wait a couple of weeks? Then what happens?

Total newbie to this, no idea what I am doing at all!

Thanks Sherapop - my cramping is very painful and period like, went to bed with a hot water bottle again last night. But its not actually as bad as my normal periods, for which I have to take really heavy duty painkilliers.

There was a little more blood this morning as well, and the pain is carrying on.

Will call my doctor as soon as the surgery starts and see what she says.

I am really scared about this.

just popped over from due in Mar thread..... congrats - Fio and Flossam ( due in Nov04 buddy!)

Auschick - I had dd1 in the UK - she required all sorts of special care etc but the care we had on the NHS was fab. Came home to aus and had dd2 - again fab care although I did shared care with mainly seeing GP and a few hospital appts.

Midwife system of the UK seemed a lot more personal ( unless you did GP shared care like I did with dd2 and am now doing with no3) - although I had to bow out and come under consultant care due to dd1's sn and heart defect.

Nettee · 19/01/2007 09:10

Angua, what did the doctor say? Hopefully they will get you a scan. Lots of people do have crampy pains and bleeding in early pregnancy and go on to have a normal pregnancy and a healthy baby but worth getting it checked out. Hope all is well.

SheRaPop - paying for the nuchal scan is one of those NHS postcode lotteries. Some Trusts offer the blood test (double/triple test) for free but if you want the scan you have to have it done privately. The nuchal scan is a more accurate indicator of the risk of the baby having a chromosomal abnormality but is more expensive for the NHS to provide so depends on local policy.

Am feeling a bit sicker today but still not too bad - a bit of dry toast seems to have sorted me out. This early bit when I haven't told anyone feels really strange and unreal.

auschick · 19/01/2007 09:13

thanks eidsvold. Yes - I am sure there is good and not so good in all health systems. I have no doubt I'll recieve good care here. However, after packing up and moving countries in march with a 10 week old baby, I'm pretty keen never to do that again. I'd much prefer to go home a few months earlier than originally planned and be settled in at home before this baby arrives.

AnguaVonUberwald · 19/01/2007 09:19

Nettee I have a doctors appointment for 11 - so will see what they say. really scared about this as the cramping is so bad and the bleeding, though very light, is getting worse.

will also have to tell my boss now as this might involve time off work.

Agua. Best of luck at the docs today...I will be thinking of you.. I know how worrying it can be so you are doing the right thing getting yourself checked out, hopefully he will send you for a scan....good luck, fingers crossed for you.

Flossam · 19/01/2007 11:48

Angua, hope you are ok. Thinking of you. Please let us know how it goes.

Edie, thinking of you too - fingers crossed for you today.

auschick · 19/01/2007 12:43

ok ladies - I need some help. We're off back to Oz next friday. I plan to stay 4 weeks (which will make me approx 11 weeks). My GP here (locum) said she wouldn't book me any appointments until I returned as she said there was no point. After reading some posts here I'm a bit nervous that I may not be able to get in for my 12 week nuchal fold scan here (needs to be before 13+6). Is this advice correct in your experience?

Angua and Edie - hoping and wishing all is ok.

AnguaVonUberwald · 19/01/2007 14:03

Been to the doctors. Not good news really. She said there is nothing we can do, just wait and see. But it was really clear that she wasn't very positive about it. She kept saying things like. "The good news is that you got pregnant easily so you can try again."

And i KNOW that we are lucky about that, but I want to be happy about this baby,

And I can already see it in my head. Its already real, I just want it to hold on tight.

It's not over yet Angua - your baby is still in the right place to give it every chance. There are many stories like yours that have had successful outcomes. I truely hope you are one of them, so fingers and toes crossed that the little on hangs on.

I totally understand that comments like "at least you can get pregnant" are not very reassuring during a time like this.

Hi all,

So sorry angua and flossam that you are having a bad time. I cant believe how unthinking health care professionals can be at times. I know its routine for them, but its a special time for you!

Angua - did you get offered an early scan at the early pregnancy unit, from reading posts on here it seems pretty common. My SIL had a scare with her second pg( now a beautiful daughter) and went to A & E and had a much needed reassuring scan. I know A & E is the last place you really want to go, but maybe you could ring and ask about EPU. I dont know, im rambling I just know how worried you must be.

Ive been feeling a bit sick today, a session at the soft playcentre with an active ds didint help!

Hope all who are worried get good news soon

Fingers crossed for everyone.

EdieMcredie · 19/01/2007 22:13

Saw the little baby and its heart beating!!!! It measures 2.6mm and apparently looks fine. It's not twins, they don't even think there was a second sac now-apparently it looks like a bit of bleeding, prob implantation.

We even have a photo!!!

Hormones measure at over 25,000 when the norm is around 10,000!!!

EdieMcredie · 19/01/2007 22:15

Angua-So so sorry to hear what you are going through-must be very worrying but as others have said try to remain a bit hopeful-you don't know anything until you have seen the scan. I also have been having some horrible cramps. No bleeding but it can be common.

Im praying for you xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Flossam · 20/01/2007 10:17

Oh Edie I'm very pleased for you. Hope you feel alright about there only being one? I think a little part of me and a huge part of DP would be relieved actually, but we have DS already. You must be relieved though after being so worried.

I've been having awful cramps all day yesterday, still not totally resolved today. It is so hard to know what is going on in there though isn't it? I don't know if it might even just be my bowels as I have been constipated and full to the brim of wind. I have a history of IBS as well although not for years. Comes on when stressed, which well, would be now really wouldn't it? Taking it easy today and tomorrow. Poor DS it is a very dull time for him.

Angua, how are you today? I would second trying to go to an EPU, at your stage of pg the doctor really should have referred you. I m/c at 5 weeks last time and wasn't referred as the PCT trust don't scan before 6 weeks. However, the trust I'd chose to have my care under do, and now I wish perhaps I had tried to go last week when I had small bleed. As people have said there are walk in EPU's in London, the one I went to in Bristol is open on weekends too, ring round your local hospitals and see where you get to. Good luck.

TOD · 20/01/2007 11:42

Flossam and Agua, fingers crossed for you both. Try to rest as much as ye can...easier said than done I know, but do try!
Agua hopefully you will get an early scan and find out what is happening......pretty insensitive of your doc to say that but she probably meant well!
Good luck....thinking of you both.

Nettee · 20/01/2007 14:08

Great news Edie, really pleased for you.

How are things today Angua?

I am working nights over the weekend so obviously very tired which is upping the nausea a little - lovely normal birth last night though

Chattyhan · 20/01/2007 14:32

Edie - so pleased to hear the results of your scan

I'm feeling happier now as the bleeding seems to have stopped but i know i won't be reassured until the next scan on the 30th.

My symptoms seem to have eased over the last couple of days and i'm trying to tell myself this is probably because the bleeding has stopped and i'm feeling more relaxed. But still can't resist worrying the symptoms are going away.

Still extremely tired!

Angua and Flossam - hope you're both doing better?

Chattyhan · 20/01/2007 14:36

Angua - when i phoned my doc to say i was bleeding and had passed a clot she said "that's a shame" it just made me feel like it was all over but the scan looked positive. I think it's very easy for us to take these comments badly when we're feeling so vunerable. Good luck.

canadianmum · 20/01/2007 15:40

Great news Edie!

Wishing you well angua......

Flossam, it would be so lovely to have a little camera inside to see what the heck is going on wouldn't it?? My cramps were quite bad for a few days too, hopefully yours is just wind or your uterus stretching in preparation....

I think my MS started yesterday, went to the park with my boys and briefly felt like I was going to faint and then felt really hungry. This morning I woke up feeling queasy, but felt better after breakfast. Still constantly hungry. 6 weeks today.....

Wishing you all well, hold on tight little bubbas

EdieMcredie · 20/01/2007 15:46

Im being sick lots...and feeling sick...oh well

Flossam · 20/01/2007 17:22

I've been feeling yuck all day. Not done bugger all. But from being constipated I now seem to have gone the other way so I don't know if I have a bug, or MS and IBS!! Or perhaps a combination of all of the above. Am I the only one who is sure that bleeding is going to start everytime I open my bowels?!! Am sure this is because AF usually starts this way and indeed was the start of m/c last year. I'm relieved to say I have been several times today with no bleeding so I'm going to try and chill for a bit.

Sorry to all others who are getting M/s. I hate vomiting so much TBH I'd like to think I won't be sick. I've been feeling nausueas for a long time now. Boobs are still tender, still have foul taste in mouth and moods are awful at times. I'm trying to hold on to the fact that I still have pg symptoms. I'm going to be so pissed off with my body if I get there next week with no bleeding and find my body has been fooling me.

I'm sorry to keep wittering on. Ds is 24 months and not the best at holding an in depth conversation. DP has been at work all day and won't be home for quite a few more hours.

laksa · 20/01/2007 19:50

Hi guys can I join this thread? just did a test this afternoon and it was +ve, am still in shock...it feels like I'm just about to get my period any min and apart from that I have no symptoms whatsoever! Due date depends on what calculater I use ( I have long cycles) so at the moment its anywhere between 19th-26Sep. Am excited but scared, I am 29 and this is my first...not planned but greatly welcomed Do you go to the doctors straight away or wait, I would quite like confirmation as I keep thinking the test was wrong or something!!
