Hi new year, new thread!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
marmitemad · 04/01/2007 22:49

sorry to be a pain but I have just changed my username to marmitemad (dh suggested it as this has been my only craving) as winterfell12 would have been a bit obvious to other users who know me.
congratulations to you plumpbump, I suddenly feel a bit scared.

Alocin · 04/01/2007 22:53

Congrats to you Plumpbump and family!

MoosMa · 04/01/2007 22:54

Wow PlumpBump, glad you're all ok, and congratulations on being the first to the other side! You're still welcome here and can gloat while we moan about how big and uncomfortable we are while you get to gaze at your lovely baby . Have they given you an idea how long he'll be kept in? I bet you can't wait to get him home!

Alocin, I felt and saw a difference when it engaged, my bump looked much bigger all of a sudden and seemded to change shape, also I have a heavy feeling in the tops of my legs and if I sit down on a hard chair too quickly I feel like I'm squishing it!

suzi2 · 04/01/2007 23:42

wow - congrats plumpbump :-D Welcome Jacob. Hope you're all doing well. That's a really good weight for 32 wks!

thelittlestboho · 04/01/2007 23:43

suis · 05/01/2007 08:45

Lots of congratulations on your beautiful baby Plumpbump.

Sounds like it must have been very scary for you and it must be rotten to be home without him. Glad he's OK though.

SmudgeMum · 05/01/2007 10:09

How exciting - our first baby. Congratulations to you and partner Plumpbump and I too hope that you get to bring Jacob home soon.

We had our scan yesterday and the worry about LO being breech was just the midwife being cautious. The doctor said that she might have been unsure because the head is already 4/5 engaged. Does that mean it's likely to come early or just that I have to waddle for the next 4 weeks? I did notice that my bump dropped a bit and walking is more uncomfortable than before. I've also started to get back ache in the evenings. Saying that I'm not grumbling because I know some people have had it bad for ages.

I went to Matalan and bought cheap PJs dressing gown, slippers but still not sure what to wear to give birth. There is a pool that we can use early on in labour that I quite fancy but not sure I'd want to bare all (I know a bit daft to feel shy seeing as we'll be baring all to anyone but that's just me).

Has anyone managed to find out anything about baby groups in their area? I still haven't heard anything from NCT so I guess I won't be going to their antenatal classes!

MoosMa · 05/01/2007 11:48

I wore a mat strappy top in the pool last time, I'm a bit boob-shy and didn't want to be hanging out for hours with my mum there! Although my bits were on show it wasn't so bad because I couldn't see that iyswim.

Whatever you decide to wear for the birth, take 2. I started off in a big t-shirt but had to change after my waters broke.

DrJo · 05/01/2007 13:11

Well done PlumpBumb and welcome to Jacob. Maybe I should pack my hospital bag and dig the nappies/clothes out of the loft this weekend rather than once I am on maternity leave, as I had been planning

soundbites · 05/01/2007 13:37

I go away a couple of days and find out our first baby has been born! CONGRATULATIONS Plumpbump. Fabulous news and I hope that you get little Jacob home soon. Lots of best wishes to you and your family.

Congratulations Plumpbump (guess your username is becoming a little less appropriate!). Lots of love to you and your family.

DontCallMeYummy · 05/01/2007 15:52

Long time no post...
Hope you all had a lovely Christmas. I decided it was now or never for my long-dreamed-of solo trip to Iceland so me and the In Utero Boy flew there (with midwife's note) the week before Christmas. We had a lovely time and were both so excited to be there finally, wandering around the snow-dusted streets hunting the best hot chocolate in Reykjavik and having a pregnancy massage whilst floating in the famous Blue Lagoon looking at blue skies while the temp outside the lagoon was -3 (my masseuse had icicles in her hair). Unfortunately Little Boy was so excited by all this that he did a b-i-g somersault and so now his toes are pointing towards the escape hatch. Damn! In case any other ladies are in the same er, position, here's what I've been advised to do...
Keep my knees lower than my hips.
Burn Chinese Moxa sticks (70p from Chinese pharmacy) over little toe.
Sit on birthing ball.
Sleep on side.
Crawl round on all fours with bum in the air - very elegant.
Lean on kitchen counters with legs shoulder-width apart.
Have quiet word with baby and promise him/her SuperMegaUltraRobotronDinosaurDeluxe for 1st birthday if he/she heads South.
You choose, I'm trying them all...

DontCallMeYummy · 05/01/2007 15:54

PS. I'm due on February 14th (am planning a romantic meal for 2 at Pizza Hut with a side order of hot towels) - can I be added to the list?

penguinette · 05/01/2007 17:51

hi everyone, can i join? i must admit i have been reading this (and the previous two) threads and i feel like i know everyone already! i am just quite a shy person, so took me a while to pluck the courage together....but I suddenly thought ? we only have a month to go so its now or never!
i am due 11th of Feb, and just yesterday went for my 34 weeks check-up with the midwife at UCH in london. i am planning to give birth at the birthing centre there and originally found your thread when looking for anyone who gave birth there and had horror/delight stories to tell...
This is my first baby so all abit scary!
I must admit I am so impressed with all the support you all give each other ? this is amazing!
And congratulations to Plumpbump! Jacob is a lovely name.
Hope you all have a relaxing/painfree weekend.

CurrantBun · 05/01/2007 18:01

Congratulations Plumpbump and welcome to the world, little Jacob. Knowing he arrived at 32 weeks is a bit scary though - could be any of us! And there's me not even considering baby may arrive before 40 weeks - I still have things to do and buy!

In all the excitement my previous message seems to have gone unnoticed - can anyone advise me on what I should pack in my hospital bag? As it's my first I'm a bit clueless although I know I shall have to get some giant maternity pads . I am still wearing the same knickers I wore pre-pregnancy: they're bikini ones so sit under my bump quite comfortably and I haven't needed to go up a size. Can I still use this type of knickers with maternity pads? Am not keen on giant granny pants or anything that covers my whole tummy - I don't even like over-bump maternity clothes. I'm OK with what to pack for the baby but clueless re. myself.

Alocin, my midwife is the same - all I get at each appointment is blood pressure check, urine check, fundal height measurement, listening to baby's heartbeat and a quick feel of my tummy (last time the midwife I saw was completely clueless and couldn't tell me at all how the baby was lying, which I found a little disconcerting). I haven't a clue if I've had any Braxton Hicks yet - no idea what they would feel like. I'm 32+4 so would expect them to start around now? Does everyone get them?

suis · 05/01/2007 18:06

Welcome back DCMY - you have been missed ! Iceland sounds fab. I wish I had had the nerve to do something similar. I've developed a strange yearning for a wee trip abroad in the last few days, although maybe it's just a sort of impending-motherhood-want-to-run-away sort of nervousness setting in.

Welcome to Penguinette too. I'm also Feb 11th with my first and it does seem to be coming up very very fast all of a sudden.

penguinette · 05/01/2007 18:13

hi currantbun,
i am completely clueless too regarding hospital bag (also my first), and haven?t packed mine yet, but i found this list on the web and it looks like a pretty thorough one:
www.babycenter.com/refcap/185.html
Sorry for not being of much more help on the BH issue. I am 34+4 and still not felt any, even though I am told they are happening all the time. MW didn?t seem concerned about this when I last saw her.

penguinette · 05/01/2007 18:15

thanks suis

bubblebell1 · 05/01/2007 18:17

hello to penguinette.

currantbun. i would take what ever pants u feel comfy in briefs or buckets its ur call if you can fit a large pad in there then all is well. with my first i wore disposables and i loved them but they arent everyones cup of tea just chucked them out after wearing them. altho now u can get cheap packs of 'real' knickers from the supermarket etc.

take food and drink what with all the cut backs its rare that u get much else other than lunch and dinner and if u r particularly tired having something to eat to hand is a godsend. the usual slippers nighty and pjs towel flannel smellies oh and camera (i forgot mine last time ).

oh and lastly a nursing cushion

hope thats of some use.
