This one seems to be the winner, and I can't seem to come up with anything more inventive, sorry!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Wilkie - I'm being induced early due to severe SPD, but they couldn't book me in if my cervix ewasn't favourable so I had to have an internal to see if I'd started to dilate. When they checked, they found I was already 2cms dilated so she asked me if I wanted a sweep there and then to see if it started anything off. Apparently a sweep won't work if you're not 'ready' but if you are it can speed things up a little, because when they separate your membranes from your cervix it causes a rush of some hormone or other which may kick start things if the time is right. I've had a lot more contractions since my sweep (they keep dying away though ) and I had my show that evening, so hopefully things will be even more favourable tomorrow when I have my next one as I really want to avoid induction if I can.

I've heard of quite a lot of people (I go on 2 other baby forums) who went into labour not long after a sweep, but whether or not its coincidental, I suppose we'll never know! And it might be different when you're overdue, whereas I'm not due till the 20th??

Sounds like there's lots of us getting pretty fed up now...let's hope there's lots of new arrivals this week

Loubie xx

Wilkie - my cousin had a stretch and sweep and went into labour within 4 hours of it. I'm booked in for one a week today if still waiting. Sweep has been described to me as feeling as though the midwife nearly has her hand up your throat so am not looking forward to it. I am 40+1 and not getting anything so thoroughly fed up of everything at the moment. After reading your comment re Grease gonna watch my dvd maybe some bouncing on the birth ball singing along will cheer me up this afternoon and get things going......

annieapple7 · 08/01/2007 12:07

I also read in my Miriam Stoppard book that 80% of babies are born "late" because the 40 week gestation period counts from the date of the LMP - ie 2 weeks before you have even conceived.
So if a pregnancy is 40 weeks from conception, it figures that we will go over. I wonder why they don't count from conception instead. No doubt this system was devised by a man. [sceptical]

annieapple7 · 08/01/2007 12:09

LOL at tea lady's remarks, fortyplus!

fortyplus · 08/01/2007 12:10

Still makes me smile when I think of it - and her daughter is 16 now!

2Happy · 08/01/2007 12:22

Jodie - so glad they didn't induce you. I have caught dh's lurgy, and spent yesterday feeling sooooooo crap I was in tears at the thought of the baby actually arriving. Feeling a bit better today, fever broke overnight, but have lost 4lb this week . I remember you said you were on antibiotics and had cough and sinus infection, grim. Really hope you start to feel better soon, and that the baby stays put until you do! I can sympathise witht he waters thing - really, all this coughing with the baby's head bouncing on your bladder, doesn't help the pelvic floor muscles any!
Hello and welcome, vinrouge - damn I reeeeally want a drink now!
Lizzz - so sorry your heartburn sounds totally hideous. Nothing to suggest that I'm sure hasn't already been suggested excpet not eating pineapple like Loosh said, gave me heartburn too!
Harry, my nighttime buddy, did you get any more sleep last night? Only a couple of hours before your appt - good luck, hope they give you a date ASAP.
Too befuddled to remember what anyone else has posted, sorry. Oh someone wanted stats - I'm 30, dh is 31 on thursday and this is our second. Not sure if I'd do it again - I always fancied 3 kids, dh wants 2. But one thing's for sure, am never doing it so that I am heavily pg at times of maximum cold virus circulation!!

Lizzzombie · 08/01/2007 12:23

annieapple - I know what you mean about calculating the date from conception. I worked it out to be 15th of Jan originally, but 12 wk scan put EDD at 7th of Jan.

Would be cool if baby came today - Elvis and David Bowie were both born on this day!

I am too scared to eat a curry, imagine the mess on the delivery table with a curry poo! no way - am saving that one till afterwards! Just swigging Raspberry tea, may add some vodka though...as its getting boring now.

Can I also add, I thought if you gave up smoking and drinking you were supposed to loose your cellulite. Hmm. I've not had a fag and I've had about one drink in the last nine months...but I still have cellulite!

vinorouge · 08/01/2007 12:44

Fear of a curry poo during birth is what has put me off anything really hot - that was first thing DH said when I suggested it, plus he knows I am a wimp when it comes to hot curries so would hate eating it anyway

2happy - my name gives away what I am craving......my swizzles variety pack is very nice but just not quite hitting the spot!

I have to confess I'm not even dressed yet. Must motivate myself and get outside for a walk to buy some toothpaste. Oh how exciting.

Daisypops · 08/01/2007 12:52

Hi ladies, quick update...I'm been induced tomorrow!!! . I'm due on Thursday but still have +2 protein in my wee and a 'urates' (sp?) blood test has come back slightly higher than normal, which can be an indication of pre-eclampsia on its way. BP is normal today and bub seems happy so had a stretch and sweep (which hurt) but my consultant thought it best to induce me asap to prevent an emergency in the next few days . Am quite suprised and don't think its sunk in yet, MW's were saying BP fine, baby happy then they told me this. DP is excited, I am too, also a little nervous. I suppose they wouldn't have booked me in for it if they wasn't a good reason.

I'm afraid I don't have time for personals, house to get in order and last things to pack. Ahhhhhhh!

Hope everyone is ok. x

wilkie50 · 08/01/2007 13:02

Daisypops - how exciting! Keeping my fingers crossed it all goes well.

Lizzz/Vinorouge (welcome BTW) - curry poo - that is my fear. Even if not a curry poo then a curry fart?? Oh the indignity!!

Lizzz - really really sympathise re the heartburn - mine has been more mild throatburn so I can't imagine how horrid full blown heartburn must be.

2Happy - hope you feel better soon I'm not a good patient at the best of times.

Any one got any suggestions for an incredibly itchy belly button - had my belly button pierced when I was 18, haven't worn the bar for years but still have a hole and where the skin is stretched over the hole it is bright red and so so itchy. Is driving me insane! Have tried Avent oil and Savlon but to no effect.

lulumama · 08/01/2007 13:03

calamine lotion dabbed on with a cotton pad, wilkie !

wilkie50 · 08/01/2007 13:06

Yey - lulumama - I knew you would know

Any suggestions as to why I keep having false labour that just stops dead???

lulumama · 08/01/2007 13:15

how many weeks are you wilkie...37 + ? it is part of the natural process...your body is getting ready for birth, the uterus is practising, also, all those twinges and contractions are helping get baby in a good position and softening and moving the cervix forward....even if you are having a c.s for your SPD, your body doens;t know that ,so is getting rady for a vaginal birth !

wilkie50 · 08/01/2007 13:17

I'm 38+1 - not me having a c/s for SPD x

annieapple7 · 08/01/2007 14:34

Good luck Daisypops!
My cellulite has got worse since being pregnant, it is going below my knees now, Lizz!
And another pregancy horror last night - I was mowing the ladygarden (what an effort, even with a big mirror!) so that the MW won't need a weedwhacker when the time comes when I noticed I appear to have a varicose vein, in my, erm...downstairs! Urgh! I was nearly sick!

Lizzzombie · 08/01/2007 15:35

OMG Annieapple, I am so pleased you wrote that!
I have made the same discovery this morning. Was considering posting it, but couldnt bring myself to!

Am so happy you have the same problem!
That - combined with piles is so going to put DP off me forever!

Flumpybumpy · 08/01/2007 15:55

Is pooing during labour quite common then??? I did whilst labouring is hospital, was sooo embarrassed I swore DH to secrecy and have never told anyone.......until now!!

elliepmummy · 08/01/2007 16:02

Hello all,

Cameome from hospital at lunch time with our beautiful new daughter Hattie Alice Parks we went to theatre at 11.45 on friday spinal block went really well (didnt even knoe he'd one it ) and Hattie arrived at 12.16pm weighing 6lb 13oz. Had fluid on her lungs so had to go to SCBU with her daddy but had her back after an hour and she had to have heat treatment overnight to maintain temperature. Feeding really well every 3.5-4hours on formula, milk came in today and its agony!! Ellie is loving all the presents shes been getting and keeps wanting to hold her sure th enovelty will wear off.

Only one major disaster came home and we have no hot water or heating aaargh got british gas cover and phoned them and they are sending engineer tomorrow between 8 and 1 so hopefully be fixed then. Sorry no personals I'll ry and catch up with all the posts later

Flumpybumpy · 08/01/2007 16:04

Congrats of the birth of Hattie.

Lizzzombie · 08/01/2007 16:09

Big congrats to your elliepmummy - you'll have to change your nickname now!

FB - apparently most people poo during labour. sorry to be the bearer of bad news! one of my mates poo'd or wee'd with every contraction...and she was in a birthing pool!
But, the good news is that before labour starts the body often empties its bowls in readiness for the pushing, so you may be ok. Just maybe avoid big meals for a couple of days before your due date! (puts you off a curry doesnt it!)

katybumps · 08/01/2007 16:10

sorry to but in but all your talk of pooing during labour reminded me of a conversation i had with a friend just before the birth of her baby. for some reason i said concraption instead of contraction and thats just what she did

wilkie50 · 08/01/2007 16:28

Congratulations EPM!!! Great news and gorgeous name to boot

Lizzz/Annieapple - big fat cellulitey knees too (and calves if I squeeze them), combined with bright purple stretchmarks on my top outer thighs. I am beaoooootiful!!!!!!!

And to think I was a size 10 9 months ago with an exceptionally flat stomach that I was very proud of (arse has always been a bit fat)

Lizzzombie · 08/01/2007 16:31

Don't even start on the stretch marks...far too depressing!
if this baby had come early I would have been saved from all manner of embarrassing afflictions!

Hattie2 · 08/01/2007 16:32

Many congrats epm - great choice of name

Now 40+3 and really fed up with it. Having constant twinges and contraction-like pains but it never turns into anything regular. With first pg I had no false alarms, just knew when it was real labour but this time I feel like I haven't got a clue what I'm doing or what to expect - arggghhh!

wilkie50 · 08/01/2007 16:36

Ha ha - just re-read the last few posts - aren't we a happy little lot

Come on girls, let's keep thinking 'It will be worth it! It will be worth it! It will be worth it!'

Had a good talk with Bubba this morning and advised that s/he stop teasing me with false contractions/labour otherwise mummy will take his/her teddies away!! To which s/he promptly stuck his/her arse out at me
