Got back from the baby show. Probably latest about 3 hours - which was exhausting enough for me and OH!

We got Chicco next to me (20% off), reusable nappy kit to take us from birth to potty training (discounted from £375 to £199) and a snugglebundle which looks really useful.

Had a good look at different travel system options. Still not sure what to go for, but was useful to try different ones out and compare.

Feet up. Cuppa tea. Hot water bottle on achy back. How did everyone else get on?

Gotothekitchenmummy1 · 21/02/2016 16:19

Hello all! How do I go about putting my stats on the spreadsheet? I can't figure it out, I'm using an iPad, perhaps that's why?

I hope you've all enjoyed the baby show!

laughingGnomette · 21/02/2016 16:42

Exhausted too! What made me think carrying 12 packs of water wipes across London on top of 3 other bags of things would be a good idea?!
Got the next 2 me, a Ewan sheep, dribble bibs and lots of other things I can't remember.
Was tempted by the tots bots nappies but they look like they'd be so hot in the summer. It put me off a bit but I'm still undecided.

laughingGnomette · 21/02/2016 16:44

goto if you tap the image of the pen in the top right hand corner that should put it into edit mode for you :)

nehagarg · 21/02/2016 16:59

Phew! Just finished with the baby show. Didnt buy the next2me (better deal on mamasandpapas with 15% discount) or the stroller (better deal elsewehre) but got a changing mat, bottles (all freebies), bath insert, blankets, muslins etc.

Great last minute deals but my feet could do with rest now! That was an intense 7 hours.

Loved all the talks though. Extremely useful for first timers like us.

Did they have a deal on the water wipes laughing? I was thinking about them but was undecided. I am planning to just use cotton wool and water but the water wipes looked good.

dolly that looks like a good alternative actually, thank you! It's very similar to the colour that's currently half on the walls, just several shades lighter. We were trying to avoid yellows that were too lemony or insipid so that looks exactly the kind of thing we need.

I've given up the painting for today, I'm just too achey and sore to keep going! My main problem after a few hours painting is that I start to really struggle to bend down because my bump is just so uncomfy being squished. Poor DH is still up there trying to get through a bit more of the glossing. And that's our weekend over!

jelly and laughing sounds like you both got good hauls at the show Smile

jellybelly85 · 21/02/2016 17:05

laughing yes, I had to hold myself back from quite a few things!

I really liked the look of the Ewan sheep too - will probably get online (plays white noise and mimic heart beat to help little one to sleep). Also was tempted by reusable wipes. I went for the tots bots because it was an awesome deal and looked really cute and omfy. I guess if we're lucky to have a heatwave this summer they can always go nude because nappies would be hot too (I would think?)

Feels good to have finally bought a couple of baby things. No clothes or toys yet - but there is still time!

laughingGnomette · 21/02/2016 17:10

Yeah not bad nehagarg, £20 for a box of 12, I think on Amazon it's usually £24 for 12 and in boots it's £19 for 9 so a bit of a saving. I'm pretty lazy and found water and cotton wool a bit of a faff (especially at night) so a box of these was on my must have list :)

jellybelly85 · 21/02/2016 17:12

oooh - just seen this. If anyone is interested in the tots bots pack, its available on-line this weekend www.totsbots.com/product/cloth-nappy-packs-and-kits/birth-to-potty-kit-baby-show/

bikingintherain · 21/02/2016 17:16

Are water wipes disposable?

I'm not using cotton wool and water, meconium (first poo of the baby) is like tar and in my opinion cotton wool is just a nightmare. So am interested to hear about alternatives that don't make me feel guilty for using wipes.

laughingGnomette · 21/02/2016 17:20

jelly - yes it was an awesome deal! I really liked the concept and the bamboo liners. I just thought the bamboo double layered night ones looked like they'd be boiling. I guess nude or a light weight disposable for the warmest nights would be fine though. Our flat gets soooo hot in the summer I'm paranoid about overheating his bits :). I noticed there was another baby show in May in Birmingham so they'll hopefully repeat the bundle deal online then if I decide to go for it.

laughingGnomette · 21/02/2016 17:23

biking - yes they are disposable rather than reusable.

dollydaydream84 · 21/02/2016 17:35

Mollie I will take a photo of our DDs wall if it will help? We are moving all the bedding to the baby's room so just bought the paint again! We had such trouble finding paint for our house, always looks lots darker on the walls!

bikingintherain · 21/02/2016 17:37

Interesting gnomette Thanks!

MollieRos · 21/02/2016 17:43

biking I've been looking at cheeky wipes as an option for reusable wipes. I just hate the thought of throwing endless quantities of baby wipes away. It's about £40 for a full kit (wipes, containers etc), which seems like a lot, but seeing as you only buy them once I think in the end it'll work out cheaper than having to keep buying wipes. I do suspect that I could just chop up an old towel and use tupperware containers and that'd do the same job, but hey ho, sucked in by the marketing! I'm sure we'll also use disposable wipes some of the time, but I'm determined not to add too much to landfill.

Just looking at the tots bots pack jelly This is what happens when I skive off painting and leave my DH doing all the work- I end up spending loads of money Grin

mrsmugoo · 21/02/2016 17:44

Biking - I agree, cotton wool is utterly hopeless for mec poo! I used water wipes on the go last time and cheeky wipes reusable wipes at home.

I still use cheeky wipes for hands and faces now but we stopped using them for bottoms when I went back to work.

bikingintherain · 21/02/2016 17:47

I agree but we don't have a washing machine in the flat mollie, it's a shared room downstairs for the building and I'm not sure I can quite facing using reusable at this point. If however by a small miracle we have moved house before the baby I'll look into them, or at any point when we move I guess!

CharlW1 · 21/02/2016 17:50

Hi all just checking in - lovely to be up to date with all the news.
I would definitely recommend a Ewan dream sleep - we used it all the time with my DD. I used to put it on my belly pre having her too and when I'd has her she just seemed to know the noise when I put it on.

Gotothekitchenmummy1 · 21/02/2016 18:03

Thank you Laughing. Annoyingly, it just tells me to 'get the app', which I have, and I can't work out how to get the spreadsheet open in google drive! I'm a bit of a Neanderthal when it comes to technology!

laughingGnomette · 21/02/2016 18:07

Hehe mrsmugoo that reminds me of a funny photo DP took of me fumbling with cotton wool trying to clean DS's bum in hospital and getting black tar poo EVERYWHERE!

CharlW1 - that's a lovely idea! Ewan was a big hit for us with DS, so much so that a couple of his feet broke, hence the new Ewan from the baby show. I went for a grey Ewan this time :)

nehagarg · 21/02/2016 18:10

Okay so cotton wool is a big no no. Good to know!

Definitely going to look into water wipes then.

dollydaydream84 · 21/02/2016 18:11

I was wondering about Ewan the dream sheep - I wish we had got one with my DD so thought about getting one this time. Thanks for letting me know Charl.

Johnsons Extra Sensitive wipes were and have always been fine for my little one. We used a whole packet with meconium poo then cotton wool for a few weeks before reverting to wipes.

bikingintherain · 21/02/2016 18:21

I think that was what we did for DC 2 dolly, this time I'm not sure I can be bothered at all.

nehagarg NCT will tell you to use cotton wool and water, and whilst there is merit to this, I would still recommend a pack of wipes to take in the hospital bag for the tar poo.

I haven't done NCT for 7 years so am happy to ignore this completely this time round!

Smiler81 · 21/02/2016 18:21

Busy day, I think we managed about 2.5 hours round the baby show, but it was good to be able to try out all the travel systems and get some advice. Didn't buy anything but that was mainly because we didn't want to carry them home, but feeling much better about what we need now. Had time for a nice lunch out but now shattered and back home with my comfy clothes on and dog settled on my knee. X

jbiscuits · 21/02/2016 18:51

dolly we also used the Johnson extra sensitive wipes from day 1 with DS and he was fine with them. I need to remember to get some actually as the tesco wipes I currently use for DS probably aren't suitable for a newborn.
