Morning all, nearly the weekend Smile

Cookies, I meant shorter surname in my post yesterday, not longer! Typo because I was at work and trying to post in a hurry. Basically I have the same challenge as you, one-syllable surname that I think goes best with a three-syllable first name. Although two syllable would do if we really liked the name! Hence Malcolm and Corin being on the list .

Bluebell, you poor thing! Glad you have some new clothes. I bought my first couple of maternity things this week too - unlike you, I had been given a few bits from my sis and a friend, but there were a few gaps appearing in my wardrobe, especially for work.

Proudly wore new red top and black trousers to work yesterday, then called on a friend with a 3-month baby on way. She handed me a muslin cloth while I was cuddling him, in case he sicked up on me. But he was fine. After an hour of chat, I got up from the sofa only to find myself with a wet bum: her 14-year old incontinent dog had peed on the sofa.... So now my lovely new clothes have been through the wash after only 12 hours outing!

Primary, if you're worried about popular names, I should probably mention that I've seen Dexter and Elliott/Elliot on quite a few recent popularity lists during my searches. I like Elliot(t) a lot.

Going Loopy, thanks for the Ranatadine recommendation! A colleague at work also mentioned it. Gaviscon is helping so far but good to have a plan if it gets worse.

Cheery, I love Maurice/Mossy and Branock! There are several Irish names with a Bran prefix that are quite nice, think I put a couple on our list.

By the way, does anyone else have itchy ankles?!! Thought it might be due to ankles swelling and socks chafing at ankles. But it seems to happen even when I wear tights or knee socks too.

Thom80 · 26/02/2016 08:46

Gnat - I have exactly the same issue. My right ankle in particular is so itchy and doesn't seem to matter what I am wearing. It drives me crazy in bed! No idea what is causing it.
I too have a one syllable surname and I am finding it hard to find names. I always think my husband uses it as an excuse to veto names, his excuse for anything he doesn't like is that it doesn't go with the surname! Frustrating.

GoingLoopyQuickly · 26/02/2016 09:11

Thom80 - if that itching is constant give your mw a call.

Gnatt - I was fortunate to miss indigestion as a constant last pg but when I did get it and got gaviscon the texture made me gag like nothing else ever. So I hope you can get the doc to script you Ranatadine.

I noticed my bump had changed shape yesterday. It was suddenly much more on the front in the morning but not as much i the evening. It was a reminder I have a tennant inside me - rent free ;)

I hit 18 weeks yesterday and getting anxious about my scan (perfectly normal). So on one hand I want it to fast forward time and on the other time seems to be flying by fast enough so if I fast forward any more I will be in labour!

Thom80 · 26/02/2016 09:16

Goingloopyquickly - I was 1& wks yesterday as well! I know exactly what you mean about the anomaly scan. I think someone referred to it as being scananxious!

CultureSucksDownWords · 26/02/2016 09:47

Hi All!

I have itchy ankles too! I think it's just dry skin for me, but itching can be a sign of more serious things, so it is worth mentioning to the midwives if it goes on or gets worse.

My DP felt the baby kick last night, for the first time :-) He was very pleased to feel it!

GoingLoopyQuickly · 26/02/2016 12:14

Thom80 - that was me! Well my friend who coined scanxious the other day.

So if you turnover day was yesterday that means we have the same EDD (28/7)

My scan is on 15 March but I just had a quick listen with my doppler. I know you aren't supposed to use a doppler but as long as I don't try to diagnose, or use it too often I can't see the harm. I really wanted one in my first pg but refrained. I know enough to distinguish between baby's heartbeat, my own pulse and the placenta. Plus, my 16 wks mw appointment didn't include listening to the heartbeat and I am not seeing my mw until 25weeks (April time).

This week has been interesting. I found the hormones taking over in an unwelcome way at the weekend and couldn't shake it. Went to the doc who has signed me off to rest and have me time. So I have today, and next week off work. That is four days off work. Today is my first and done very little other than eat and watch "call the mw", which very nearly made me wretch. I amso pleased we have the health service, science and education of today. It makes me proud to work for the NHS. Even if I am in an office in a business park!

GoingLoopyQuickly · 26/02/2016 12:26

We are trying not to think about names yet until at least the scan. We think we have the girls name sorted but we struggled with boys names last time. I love the name we chose for lots of reasons, including my first dog! But in the first few weeks I found out it was most popular name that year and nearly everywhere I went I heard a kid being called it. I very nearly changed his name!

My two favourite names growing up where Chloe and Daniel. But my best friend had her kids before and those were the names they chose. She never knew those were top of my list because it was my own personal secret. But she got dibs by getting upduffed first.

Question though, who thinks they will name the bump before DDay? And if so, will you share the news? I have always felt uneasy about it for no particular reason, but as we are going to try to find out the sex for the benefit of DS so he knows if he has a brother or sister growing in mummy's tummy, perhaps we should give "baby" a name!

Also DS is 2 and has started telling me he is my baby and being really cuddly (when not causing mayhem with daddy), and at nursery he has been logged lashing out unprovoked on other kids. Do you have any littles starting to behave differently? Or have any experience of it?

Thom80 · 26/02/2016 13:04

Going loopy quickly - yes, I am due on 28th too. Due date buddies! I love the phrase scanxious. I was telling someone at work yesterday. I hope you are having a good break and getting the time off you need. This is my first pregnancy but I have noticed I am on a hormone rollercoaster!!
I am pleased that it is Friday, but less pleased that I have had to go on a trip for work today and will have a long journey back this afternoon. This is after an early start.
Hope everyone is having a happy Friday

CultureSucksDownWords · 26/02/2016 13:11

GoingLoopyQuickly to answer your questions:

"Who thinks they will name the bump before DDay? And if so, will you share the news?"

If we can, we will decide on a name before delivery, with 99% certainty. We will both agree that if for some reason, the baby doesn't look like the name (ifyswim), that we could hold back and discuss it again - hence the 1% of uncertainty! We won't tell anyone until the baby is here, to avoid any comments or feedback on it.

"Do you have any littles starting to behave differently? Or have any experience of it?"

My DS is 3.5, and has been a bit different to usual since being told about the baby. He has been a bit more clingy, and more unsettled with sleep, but this is beginning to settle down. It could well have been something that would happen anyway, it's impossible to tell if it is a coincidence or not. As he's a bit older, he's been able to ask lots of questions which I think has helped him express any concerns. I am expecting him to maybe change his behaviour again when the baby actually arrives, as I think it's quite common for them to regress. I'm going to spend a bit of time thinking about how best to handle him meeting the new baby so that he doesn't feel left out/replaced.

allthegoodnamesalreadytaken · 26/02/2016 13:21

Had my 20 week scan this morning, all looks perfect and definitely still a girl. Can finally relax now phew! Having a cheeky nandos (my pregnancy craving) to celebrate with DH then heading off to retail park to get some clothes for the little un. Happy Friday everyone!

Vikkijayne2507 · 26/02/2016 13:49

We are struggling with names, it was so easy last time with ds1 we choose it and never wavered this is very different, we will hopefully have name down b4 hand.

Ds 1 is 2 next month and really had no idea about baby but were buying a dolly and some dolly toys to play with just so he gets used to terms baby and things.

Getting bad backache, lots of kicks if I sit lying back. Sorting proper scan date out due to paying or not blah blah but will be soon anyway.

Either 21+ 2 or 20 +5 as dr changed it

GoingLoopyQuickly · 26/02/2016 14:13

I thought about getting a doll too. DS loves babies and is supercute with them but has never had to share one with mummy and daddy (particularly daddy) other than at friends

mascaraisamust · 26/02/2016 16:53

Great news allthegoodnames.

My scan is Monday!! Counting down, feels like this week has taken forever to come round!!

mascaraisamust · 26/02/2016 16:55

In terms of movements, still not a lot going on here at 19+5. I sometimes feel a slight flutter after dinner but not always. Can't wait for the first thwack to let me know he's really there!! Another reasons I'm looking forward to the scan, to check all is ok in there!

Woodsy81 · 26/02/2016 18:00

Soooo tired this evening and just about to set off in a 4 hour car journey to my parents. Will struggle to stay awake in the car I think....good thing DH is driving. Smile
Baby had been a little quiet over today so I decided to give my belly a prod around on a couple of occasions. Both times baby started to Kick quite hard. Quite nice to think I am interacting with her even at this early stage. Smile
Going pram browsing (possibly shopping) tomorrow. After a lot of thought, either going for silver cross pioneer or uppababy vista. Any reviews or opinions on those 2 or recommendations for similar travel systems at a cheaper price would be greatly appreciated. There's just so much to look at!Confused

GoingLoopyQuickly · 26/02/2016 18:25

Woodsey - I have an UPPABABY vista 2012 which has been fab despite being a little bit of a tank. I really like the look of the 2015 but no funds to do anything about upgrading. I have also heard fab things about babg city jogger

gnat99 · 26/02/2016 18:44

Great news about scan allthegood!

Thom and Culture, so glad I'm not alone in the itchy ankles club. I will mention to midwife at 24 week appt as I think itching can be a sign of liver issues, even though if it's just ankles I'm sure it's fine.

Goingloopy, glad you've got some time off, theses hormones can make you feel all over the place. I feel at the moment, as soon as I recover from some wobble or other, DH seems to start worrying about something! He has no hormones to blame it on though, but quite a lot of job insecurity at the moment which doesn't help.

In answer to your question: personally I would never name my baby before he or she is born. Feels like tempting fate a bit, but also will seem like more special to do it once they have arrived in our world.

gnat99 · 26/02/2016 18:49

Woodsy, good luck in car trip.

My friend recently got an Uppababy Vista (baby is 4 months now) and she is happy with it. I've also heard good things about baby city jogger.

We went and looked at buggies this morning, so much to think about. Will be asking some advice of you experienced mums quite soon I think, once we've thought a bit more.

Happy weekend all. I'm going out shortly and I really don't want to!

verytiredmummy1 · 26/02/2016 19:38

Anyone got or heard anything about the mountain buggy duet pushchair?
Xx

GoingLoopyQuickly · 26/02/2016 20:36

Gnatt. Thanks for the words. It felt weird not doing anything today but it is nice to know that now I can relax and not worry about not sleeping at night. It helps that after a couple of weeks of giving up his 1hour 20 nap he has backtracked and decided he does need it after all. So extra stopping time for me.

Sorry to hear job insecurities are on the cards. It must be quite worrying. I know my DP struggles to work through worries because he tries to work through them on his own without putting "burden" on me and that generally ends with a bit of an argument before he opens up. I know the signs now so can intervene before we get that far.

Also you have laid out in order what is rolling around my head about the names. Exactly and to the point. I think we will tell DS he has a baby brother or sister and involve him in the name choosing instead. It isn't a big thing but still something that has been bugging me.

ValerieTheHorse · 26/02/2016 21:43

We picked a name for definite last time and told people when they asked.. Think we will do the same this time. I would change it if baby didn't look like one but I'm a picky person so I don't have huge lists of possibles, we really only have one name we both love.

minieggaddict · 26/02/2016 23:01

Hi all.
Can totally sympathise with the hormones... Feel like I've spent today either shouting or crying. Bit stressed about my mat leave as I took on a lot more responsibility at work last year and now think I won't actually get much of a break from it once baby is here. I've sort of got cover but will still need to keep a close eye on the place. It's one of those days that I wish I did something else!
Also frankly feeling shit with yet another bug. Sore throat and cough this time. Great.

My dd is 4 and has been great about the baby, apart from disappointment that she's not getting a sister. She refers to him as her baby and says she's got tummy ache cos she has a pretend baby in her tummyGrin I think the problem will be trying to entertain her when I have a newborn so we'll be a bit more house bound.

GoingLoopyQuickly · 27/02/2016 02:31

Ds tells me he has a baby in his tummy too. It is too cute. In the bath this evening he got a cloth a started washing my tummy telling me he was washing baby! I think when the baby does come I am going to be massively dependant on the sling. I can't see us being able to do a huge amount otherwise.

My freind had her second last summer and told me #2 comes along for the ride mostly. Her big challenge is managing dc1 while bf. The gap is just under 2 years

Ellizardo · 27/02/2016 05:59

Mascara - good luck with scan, it's a wonderful time and I hope you get the reassurance you need.

Woodsy - I have the 2015 vista with a maxi Cosi car seat and we love it. If you're tall and like basket space and a solid, 4x4 type chassis then it can't be beat in my opinion. Also we always knew we would try for another quite soon and the Vista adapts with £40 adaptors into a two seater...v handy and cost efficient in the end. Check your boot is big enough tho! We have a golf and its tight. Shop around too, we got 10% off our first purchase at an online baby website so saved a good £60 or so which helped x
