Thank you for the kind comments ladies. I was really upset last night. But I won't let them spoil it.

My girls names were;
Elara-Rose
Elodie
Ottilie
Poppy
Ada-Rose
I would have used my nans name as a middle name Kathleen.

DH wants his name used for our boy as a middle name. We had said this all along. Being as its our last.

SunnyScot89 · 25/02/2016 08:40

I love the name Malcolm (NN Malcy). But we know someone really irritating with that name.

I also love Ewan/Euan but DH has 2 close friends called that.

Finn and Bruce are on our shortlist but friends have kids of the same nem.. we might still use it.

Ruchbah is my favourite (NN Rookie)- unusual and is the name of a star in a constellation I associate with my Grandad who died last year, but don't know if it is too unusual.

DH likes Roary.

Other options are-
Tor
Corin
Murdo

(We are Scottish, live in Scotland and have a Mc surname)

If its a girl it will be Alba - I decided this when I was little and DH likes it too.

CultureSucksDownWords · 25/02/2016 08:48

KayTee what about Faris for a boy?

minieggaddict · 25/02/2016 08:52

Morning,
Really struggling to keep up but just seen some lovely names - love Elise Kaytee!

I just tried to post our name but it wouldn't do it so I'm taking that as an omen not to reveal to he's born! We had a choice of 2 names for dd and when she was born she didn't look like one of the names so will probably do that this time too.

photographerlady · 25/02/2016 09:02

BeauticianNotMagician81 sorry you heard those sort of comments. How inappropriate.

julfin yeah I haven’t thought about it but I guess it would be Gill. its the american in me (lived here over 17 years) I much prefer Gillian to Jillian, I hire a lot in my job and it seems the last 20-25 years people love spelling names in weird ways. The amount of Zoey, Zoweie, Zowie, Cloe, Clowee (yes with a wee) I see on CVs.

Bluebell20 your belly button story just made me spit out my tea haha!

birdandbee we have very similar taste in names. I love Florence, and Penelope (Penny).

ValerieTheHorse congrats on team pink!

KayTee87 I never met a bad James, have fond memories of many James in my life.

In regards to maternity clothes, what do you ladies suggest with maternity dresses. I remember being quite uncomfortable wearing them without black tights in warmer weather. Mainly do to how big my ankles get :)

Woodsy81 · 25/02/2016 12:51

Bought a couple of Maternity dresses last night. One for going out and one for day to day. Going to start looking at maxi dresses too.

We were thinking for our baby girl-

Maria Joanna
Annabelle Skye
Vivienne Daisy

I absolutely love the name Vivienne but when I say it (with my Scottish accent) it doesn't sound like it does in my head and I have a fear of it being shortened to Viv. Maria is our favourite so far. Maria and Joanna are plays in our mums names.

If she had been a boy then middle name would have been Alistair and we liked Ethan as a first name but that's as far as we got. Hope everyone is OK today. Lovely seeing everyone's scans. Smile

gnat99 · 25/02/2016 13:45

Thanks for the names feedback ladies. I would probably use Nora as a nickname for Eleanor rather than Ellie, just because I know nicer Noras than Ellies! Malcolm was tricky for nn's - also know someone called Mal I don't really like (this makes me sound horrible!), and not sure about Mac. Malc might work, thanks whoever suggested it.

Beautician, sorry again that you had all those crap comments to put up with! Try and rise above it, you will have another lovely boy and people can just get over themselves Wink I absolutely love Rafferty by the way.

21 +1

gnat99 · 25/02/2016 13:52

SunnyScot I love the names Finn, Corin and Alba.

We need longer names because of longer surname unfortunately. Although Corin is on our long list.

Ruchbah is very unusual indeed, there definitely won't be another in the class!

Kaytee, I love all your names, nice classic ones. I especially like Elise and Nadia.

Beautician, you were very well prepared for girls names, shame you won't get to use them! Some beautiful French ones on there.

Woodsy, Maria Joanna is my favourite combo, I love Joanna particularly. Don't really like Skye but that's just a personal thing.

Cookiesandcoffee · 25/02/2016 14:42

Ahhh so much chat I've missed in like a day!!
Some really lovely names ladies, especially the girls ones. We (I!) had so many girl names I loved, even with two DDs and I feel sad I won't use them. Love Florence, Penelope, Jemima and Elizabeth.
beautician I'm so sorry (and cross for you) people have felt the need/right to speak to you like that. A man decides the sex as others have said, and it's so rude as all we all want is a healthy baby at the end of it all. Buggers. So insensitive. Plus you will have the best use out of all your clothes you buy.

We have semi come to some sort of agreement on a boy name, but we still disagree. DH likes horrible names! Chavvy (sorry) horrible names. And I'm aware he probably won't be prime minister but I really do believe if you give a child a certain type of name it can put them in a box. We have 3 boy God children and each of them has a name we would use. One being DHs (late) Grandads name so REALLY annoying.
Really liked Theodore (I don't know any in our area- so I always think it strange when people on MN say its really popular) but DH completely despises it.

kaytee sounds like you have such a good wardrobe. I'm in full envy. Do you have any particular recommendations? I've been making do with two pairs of jeans no wonder I feel deprived ha. And a few cheap long jersey basics. Also regretting getting a size 10 as I'm really not a size 10 anymore...
mascara i feel your pain- was also a C and I ordered an E from M&S and was too small!!! I literally have no bras. I'm having to layer tight fitting clothes to try and disguise their bulging grossness. Sports bras are a NIGHTMARE.
bluebell your belly button story is the best. And I am a fart machine. I have to pray that thy are quiet. The gym is the worst.
gnat I feel like you can have a short name with a long surname? My issue has been I want a 3 syllable name to go with short one syllable surname? I like Corin! Unusual but not weird.

KayTee87 · 25/02/2016 15:21

Culture - think it might be too 'foreign' it is nice though.
I loved leila for a girl, it's actually a persian name but a friends daughter is leila :(
Minie I think Elise is a favourite of mine but don't know what I'd go for with a middle name..
Photographer I love James too and it's a family name.
Woodsy I like skye and summer also but my mum pulled a face when I mentioned them (before I was pg) so it put me off :(
Nadia is a persian name which is why it's made the list but again I'm unsure on middle name Nadia Elizabeth?

KayTee87 · 25/02/2016 15:26

Cookies I totally agree with you re names putting someone in a box. I was texting my husband saying that our child will be anything it wants to be and will be lucky with a good start and some good family connections... and then u had to say actually sadly won't ever be prime minister due to Muslim surname :( theres such an anti Muslim feeling just now. My husband isn't even Muslim and my children will be christened like me but you can't account for racism. I will be using my maiden name as a second middle name and if my children feel their name is holding them back I would be more than happy for them to change their name. I still use my maiden name in most cases anyway .. haven't actually changed anything

KayTee87 · 25/02/2016 15:27

Then I had to say*

Cheery1 · 25/02/2016 15:41

Thanks for lovely comments on scan picture ladies!

Great that all was well at your scans Eliz and Beautician - what a pain about the sonographer not giving you a picture Eliz! Rose is such a pretty name too.

Beautician - gosh people can be so thoughtless! It is amazing that all common politeness and sense seems to go out the window when talking to pregnant women. Hope you feel a bit better today.

Loving all the name suggestions too - everyone seems to have heaps of ideas. We've got a couple in the mix but think we'll have to meet him before we absolutely decide. Cookies - I LOVE Theodore too and DH also hates it! What's that about?!

At the moment our top contenders are Maurice (after my Grandad) shortened to Mossy in the Irish tradition (I'm half Irish) - though remembering boring Maurice in "Life after Life" is slightly putting me off! Other possibility is Branock - an old Cornish name (my Mum and dear Grandparents were all Cornish) - but might be a bit wistful and cool for ny child of mine!

Kaytee - I like Nadia Elizabeth - lovely name! I haven't changed my name either and think we're going to go double barrelled with the surname - gulp! Because I'm the last of my family, I'd really like to pass on my family name to out children. Sure my MIL will conveniently forget, just like she does when she send cards to Mr and Mrs W!

P.S. So sorry if I've missed anyone - had a bonkers work day yesterday so feel like I missed loads!

Cookies I got a few basics from asda, nicer stuff from asos and my jeans from mothercare :)

KayTee87 · 25/02/2016 16:09

Cheery I wouldn't mind double barrelling with kids names however would sound ridiculous with our names Grin

My mil and fil are divorced and we don't speak to fil (for background)..
In the lead up to our wedding I said I didn't think I would change my surname, might think about it when kids at school but not bothered just now.. especially as I still have a couple of years left on passport Grin. My mil said 'that's completely up to you and I won't be offended if you keep your name' eh why would she be offended anyway she's divorced and keeps talking about going back to her maiden name. Even mentioned once she might quite like it if my DH (30) chose to change his name to her maiden name. So down the line I mention I will be using my surname as a middle name for kids and they can feel free to use it as their surname /officially change it in the future if they want. Again she said she wouldn't be offended if I did that.... makes me feel like she would be offended but for the life of me I don't know why when she doesn't plan to keep the name herself.
My friend told me before wedding that I had to change my name and I obviously don't respect my husband Hmm and I couldn't just decide to change the law because I decided to get married Confused I was surprised to hear it was a law Grin. In many countries around the world including a lot of the middle east, women don't change their names. I would have thought in this day and age it's getting a bit past women telling other women what to call themselves.

KayTee87 · 25/02/2016 16:18

Vikkijayne2507 · 25/02/2016 16:47

Kaytee def not law, I'm in Portugal and women keep their maiden name and add an extra surname, they think it's very disrespectful to take your name away. So I'll be keeping my name as my son has both our surnames already some kids have 4 5 6 surnames

KayTee87 · 25/02/2016 16:50

I know :) just found it hilarious that my friend thought u was trying to change the law by keeping my name.
I've stuck my husbands onto the end of mine on Facebook but not added it anywhere else yet.

KayTee87 · 25/02/2016 16:51

mascaraisamust · 25/02/2016 17:23

Some lovely names. My girls faves were:
Ava Grace
Thea Grace
Fern
Ivy
Robyn

Now I'm having a boy I'm stuck, I know it's got to be traditional to follow DHs name as a middle name.

pulpi · 25/02/2016 18:37

What lovely names you all have chosen or shortlisted!! We've another 2 weeks before we find out if the baby is a girl or boy, but we've already started kicking around names. In fact, I think we've got them chosen, but I'm still quite fond of the names we didn't chose:

Girls:
Eleanor
Freya
Sofia
Gwendolyn
Anouk

Boys:
Javier
Thomas

Amazingly, these names (which I like and chose) are not the ones we've picked! DH came up with absolute corkers for a girl and a boy (and I'm keeping mum about it) so I think we've nearly decided... but there's still a long wait and maybe.. just maybe.. Eleanor will get a second chance!

Are any of you ladies dealing with the dual language issue? In that, my family speaks in English, DH's family Spanish, and we are trying to find names that work in both. Anyone in the same boat?

19 weeks today (woohoo!) and baby is practicing for football tryouts.

Pregasaurusrex · 25/02/2016 19:52

Another 20 week scan here! Can't believe the level of detail. Anyone still feel that the idea of the baby is rather abstract?!

primarynoodle · 25/02/2016 20:39

Loving the baby name discussion :) bit early for any serious discussions for me and dp yet (gotta save some excitement to pass the next 19 weeks!) but i really love

  • dexter/elliot/ashley
  • annie/maggie/scarlett

As a teacher there are MANY names that are off the table and as i grew up being one of 2/3/4 kids with the same name i would like to not have a really popular name... suprised maggie is so popular on here.. it must be making a comeback!

ValerieTheHorse · 25/02/2016 21:03

Mascara - use Robin for a boy! I love it and it was our chosen boys name before finding out we were team pink.
I'm keeping quiet about our chosen girls name for now.

Bluebell20 · 25/02/2016 22:44

I will reply properly later but I just had to leave a message to say ohmylife Kaytee you are so organised in the maternity wear front! Before this morning my maternity clothes consisted of:

1 pair jeans
2 ill-fitting bras

Then this morning I had a mega tumble drier malfunction which culminated in my hairdryering my damp jeans, frantically, as I was very late and literally fit into NOTHING ELSE in my wardrobe, while biting back tears and cursing my cheapness in only buying one pair.

Then DH gave me a kiss goodbye with a plastic bag in his hand that had been holding raw pork, and got pork blood all over my shopping bag and coat (which is a random size 12 coat that someone left at our house years ago and is the only coat which fits me now).

Then I sobbed hysterically! DH gave me his coat instead, which in my confusion I managed to leave in the lounge...

Anyway. While I was out I bought another pair of jeans and a big woollen cape coat type thing. And a maternity top. And I will try to be less stingy to myself in future. Lesson learned!
