Congrats on the scans ladies 💙👶🏼💗👶🏻

KayTee87 · 23/02/2016 21:08

Scandi I'm sorry to hear about your experience 2 years ago :( must have been awful.

I love all these names I've heard so far from you ladies, and I'm not even just being polite! Theres not been one yet I've not liked.

Pinseyboo38 · 23/02/2016 21:54

Lovely scan pics today, I can't believe how quickly it seems to be going. Have purchased a pushchair and a corned so am feeling a tiny bit organised lol
Would love to do some yoga but have googled and as o don't drive there aren't any classes near me. Has any tried a dvd and if so any recommendations?

Thom80 · 23/02/2016 22:11

Congratulations on all the scans & great pics.
I have a cropped Levi jacket, which is great. It won't do up by the summer but should hopefully fit everywhere else.
I am finding names tricky, so any inspiration would be great.
I am loving the book recommendations. I have been too tired to read recently but hoping to get back into it.

Scase1firsttimemum · 23/02/2016 22:13

I dont think Ive shared our sons name! We have set our hearts on Jayden James, can be shortened to Jay or JJ which I quite like SmileGrin

Im so sorry to hear what you went through! It is the most important thing that he's healthy, and that he isSmile

I am a little angry and upset with my mumSad I told her the beginning of January when this scan was and I said I wanted her to come along, she said she could swap her shift and she would be coming. The last 2 weeks Ive been messaging her asking if shes still coming and I saw that she read them, she just hadnt replied! Still posting things and tagging me in things.. Then today I send a message "scan went great today by the way, still a boy" and she comes up with this thing that "oh it went completely out my head, had a lot to do, wanted to see my grandson" I had kept reminding her about it and she chose to ignore my messages, if she didnt want to go because she had other things to do (shes getting married in June so I would have completely understood) then thats fine! Just tell me.. Dont lie to meSad feeling very emotional now just feel like its only my sisters that actually care Im having their nephew.. Sorry to dampen the mood ladies, but am I being unreasonable? I havent messaged back because I cant be bothered with it right now..

Cookiesandcoffee · 23/02/2016 22:38

Lovely lovely pics ladies! and bump beautican lovely and cute and loving the dress. I have 0 dresses and it's making life hard. I have lots of envy.
cheery your pics are so cute!
kaytee rubbish on the GTT as well. Hang out for the day Hmm I've had it done in both my previous pregnancies due to weight gain Blush I just eat a lot when preg!! I would get yourself some nice treats to have in after!

I would get a normal denim jacket, maybe in a bigger size of your boobs have grown half as much as mine?! Then it will just be a little oversized next summer? I dont know if I've ever seen a maternity one?! I've got a nice Topshop one somewhere I must dig out..
photographer I've also had some stupid gifts in the past . Sounds ungrateful but who needs Converse in size 0-3 months?! Never wore. Still in box. Somewhere. (They are cute, but biggest waste of money) that's really awful to keep going on about BMI. Drives me mad makes me so cross for you. What's it even got to do with a scan?! My pre preg BMI is overweight and at that point I was fit as a fiddle and eating super healthily. Load of bollocks! Hope you are ok Thanks
elliz I had one about 5cm but at one scan had shrunk to 2cm and totally forgot to ask at my 20 week so guessing all ok. They say the hormones in pregnancy can shrink them- I had one last pregnancy (a few months before I conceived) and was gone by 12 weeks. Funny!! Sausages! Yum! My fave! I had a relatively healthy dinner... Ruined my a Creme egg. Was worth it though!
indians nice name! And I love Bertie. They will be lovely names together. Me and DH still don't particularly agree....
pinsey I had a Pilates DVD that I lent to a friend which was good.. Would tell you what it was called if she had ever returned it! Grr. I did see a few on YouTube that looked quite good? No time yet :( I will will will make time..
scase maybe have a good nights sleep and wake up with a fresh mind? It might be the hormones making you feel more upset? But not a nice feeling anyway. Hope things improve Cake

gnat99 · 24/02/2016 09:20

Good luck with scan today, Beautician!

AnnaT45 · 24/02/2016 09:25

Good morning all,

Yah to the scans so pleased everything is well. Scase don't worry about your mum. You did your best.

Beautician looking gorgeous! Have you decided on whether to find out sex? I'm biased but I say stay yellow Smile but in all seriousness if you don't have that urge to find out then maybe don't? I understand how you must feel having three boys. Good luck though!

Re denim jacket I would just get a normal
Size and wear open, otherwise you won't get much wear out of it? Or maybe go up a Size? I'm looking forward to being heavily pregnant in summer so can just wear maxi dresses and denim jacket and flip flops! My feet were so swollen last time and it was winter, bloody nightmare trying to get shoes on Grin

I need to sort through all DD clothes. I have lots of neutrals so should be fine either way.
Don't be tempted by the outfits when they're really little. They are such a faff! Vests and sleep suits are way forward. If you see an outfit you love I would buy in a bigger size personally. You'll also get gifted lots of lovely bits!

Found out house is being pushed back to May/ June. Confused I said to DH just want six weeks to get settled before we don't get chance to do anything with the baby!

DD is slightly better thank you all but her sleep is crap ( it's never been amazing) surviving off a few hours a night and taking its toll!) thank goodness I work part time so I can nap with her today!

Hope all scans go well and everyone is feeling ok? Kaytee hope you're feeling better?

gnat99 · 24/02/2016 10:03

Anna, glad your DD is better, such a worry when they're that ill. Look after yourself! Good that you can nap today. Stressful about the house, try not to think about it till nearer the time.

I think my feet will swell too, my ankles are already starting to. Definitely glad we can stuff ourselves into sandals. And it's not as though my feet aren't big enough and flat enough already, eek....

Scase, hope you feel better after a night's sleep.

Photographer, glad scan went well and congrats on your girl news!

I had a heated argument with DH about furniture last night, it was mainly because we were both tired and stressed but still not nice -our friends offfered us a second hand chest of drawers at the weekend, but then after we did some measurements and said yes please, got in touch yesterday saying they wanted to get rid of it today! Had to say yes as it was sitting in their garden at this point... what a rush last night to move furniture, put things in loft, tidy, dust, clean etc. Otherwise there would literally have been nowhere to put it, and in the long run it's a good thing to have. Felt very weird heading off to my relaxing yoga class having been in tears 30 minutes before, and then coming back all calm but knowing we still had loads of re-arranging to do. Not to mind just normal cleaning & tidying like washing up, etc. We were still finishing off this morning before work. Aarggh!!

I was already feeling yesterday like I would not get through the week, before any of this happened. Think baby must be having a growth spurt - I'm so shattered the last couple of days. And have constant heartburn! Must buy some Gaviscon.

21 weeks today

Cheery1 · 24/02/2016 11:15

Good luck today beautician !

SunnyScot89 · 24/02/2016 11:34

Pinsey My mum gave me a pregnancy yoga dvd by Tara Lee. I've only done a wee bit of it but it seems good so far. There's a section on hypnobirthing too which interests me. There's also sections where you can get your birth partner involved.

Pinseyboo38 · 24/02/2016 11:45

Thanks cookies and sunny I'll have a look on Amazon for that one. I'm interested in the hypnobirthing as well, I was thinking of buying the download version for my iPad so I can listen to it whilst I'm in bed xx

BeauticianNotMagician81 · 24/02/2016 12:05

All looking really good and it's a BOY. Mummy to 4 boys.

July 2016 (6)
KayTee87 · 24/02/2016 12:22

Aw amazing beautician congratulations!

Cookies, I know, I really hope I don't have GD Sad I'm surprised they wait until 28 weeks but they must have their reasons.

I think I will go and try 2 diff sizes on and see how they look, I probably wouldn't be fastening in so maybe normal size better.

Yep I plan to be in maxi dresses and flip flops/ leggings long tshirts and my new Adidas originals most of the summer so need the denim jacket for both Smile

Actually do feel a bit better today, not yet same pressure on my bladder so maybe it was just baby. If the feeling comes back though I will check for uti.

I think I will struggle for names too, anyone who is on the fb page will see that my married name is not British so not much goes. But then my husbands first name is Scottish and I think that goes haha.

Kentnurse2015 · 24/02/2016 13:24

Sorry, I said hello here weeks ago and then disappeared! Have been reading everything but not managing to actually post anything myself! Have just requested to join the Facebook group. Loving all the news about scans. Mine isn't until I'm 22 weeks so I still have 4 weeks to wait!! So impatient! Starting to feel movement, and still being sick on a daily basis. Grim!!

AnnaT45 · 24/02/2016 13:43

Ah congrats beautician! Glad all is well. I'm sure your boys will be thrilled. Along with dad they'll have a five a side team!

photographerlady · 24/02/2016 15:01

CultureSucksDownWords DH was with me. I just think the woman doing the scan was just doing a job, she wasn’t very engaging. I moved to Southampton a year ago. I find everything here with the NHS a bit overstretched if that makes sense.

Cheery1 lovely scan photo! Scase1firsttimemum glad the scan went well! Sorry to hear about the stuff with your mom.

Ellizardo a girl was what I was secretly hoping for. Worst gift. Last time my mom went to a online store that made dog but also baby clothes. Was the ugliest and awfully made dress I ever say. I could’t even give it away.

mascaraisamust NCT class near me did a yoga class and I loved it.

Cookiesandcoffee the BMI thing was just annoying. I mean my BMI is 28 at 20 weeks which I am not proud of but last pregnancy it was 35 and no one said anything! Its taken a long time to get my weight down and trying to be careful this time.

IndiansInTheLobby will hallie be short for something? Lovely name!

Speaking of BABY NAMES Anyone else already decided. I was toying with Millicent but we know so so many Millie's, on the car ride home from the scan we agreed on Gillian. I just love the idea of the nickname Jill which I never hear anymore. My daughter is named Matilda so hoping Tilly and Jills goes ok together.

gnat99 · 24/02/2016 15:26

Beautician, congrats on scan! Looks like your intuitions were right then, with it being another boy. At least you will have lots of clothes for him! What a great tribe you will have.

Kaytee glad you are feeling better. I have felt a couple of times so far during pregnancy that I was starting a bladder infection - have had a few horribles ones in the past, the last one just before my BFP. But thankfully since then it's never progressed to a full infection, just gone away after a day or so. If in doubt, flush it out! Drink, drink, drink.

Photographer I love Gillian and Gill/Jill. Much less common than Millie these days, as you say. At the moment our current favourites are Eleanor or Malcolm. That will probably change as we keep looking and thinking. As Kaytee says, you have to make sure it would go with the surname - some of my favourites simply wouldn't work.

I have just been to Boots and bought 3 different kinds of Gaviscon. Hoping it will help ease the 24-hour burn I am feeling right down my gastrointestinal tract!

21 weeks

Lucy90 · 24/02/2016 15:30

Hello ladies sorry I haven't posted for a while I find it hard to keep up! Found out we are having another girl who we are going to call Penelope! DP has booked a 4D scan for May, my mum and his mum are both coming so should be a lovely afternoon!
I'm off to a parenting event at mothercare tonight, I went to one with my last pregnancy and it was brilliant I'd definitely recommend you go if you get the chance!
20+4

Ellizardo · 24/02/2016 15:48

Photographer - love the dog dress! That's hilarious. It's the badly designed things that irritate me, like the designer has never actually tried putting a wriggly baby in it. Best kit are the baby grows/vests with wraparound side button things so they don't go over the head. I was paranoid about decapitating/asphixiating Ted in the early weeks with some of his clothing.
And I like Gill/Jill - old fashioned but lovely with Matilda.

I actually asked MN about my shortlist (see baby name thread). Quite terrified of being slagged off but people for the most part have been very sweet. Basically my french family name is Helene (with accents!) so it's finding a prefix for that which also goes with Edward (Teddy) Gregory, DC1. Any recommendations much appreciated. Current shortlist is Rose (Rosie) Helene and Zoe Helene...?

Lucy - love Penelope! Go Thunderbirds! Penny is a cool NN.

Gnat - Malcolm is a brave retro choice. I like it but think of beards?! Don't ask me why!? Probably because the only Malcolm I know had one. Will the hotly debated chest of drawers be for him? I am jealous because we desperately need more drawer space for Ted. I should just go on ebay...

And Beautician, my oh my, another BOY!!! Will you ask the others for their favourite name? I ask because some older brother friends of mine were asked - and this was in the early 80s - to name their younger brother and they chose Luke because of Star Wars! Which is pretty cool I think. Unless you went Han of course, which is even cooler.

Kaytee - I'll be tested for GD again at 28 weeks unfortunately despite being in the all clear at the moment. It's a pain in the bum, but not insurmountable, and of course disappears as soon as you deliver the placenta...

Ellizardo · 24/02/2016 15:51

I forgot to say no scan pics of 20 week baby as the sonographer just stapled a close up printout of my bloody ovarian cyst to my paperwork instead?!

Thom80 · 24/02/2016 15:59

I tend to like old fashioned / Old Testament names. I like all the suggestions so far. I am pretty convinced I am having a girl but if not I would consider Malcolm.
I am liking all the scan pictures, and pleased that everyone is having such good news.
Are there any questions I should be asking at my anomaly scan?

gnat99 · 24/02/2016 16:07

Congrats Lucy! Thanks for Mothercare recommendation - I keep meaning to check at our local branch for special events. I love the name Penelope and the nickname Penny - one of my friends has a daughter called both. My friend is Greek so it works quite well when she goes to visit her family in Greece.

Elliz - how annoying about the cyst! You'd think they'd at least put one of baby as well as one of cyst?! I love both Rose and Zoe Hélène. Will let you know if I think of any for you.

Funny about the Malcom/beard association - my husband (and father) has a beard. This baby could well be quite hairy Wink We like the name for several reasons:

-because it's Celtic (I am Irish, he is half Scottish)
-because it's relatively uncommon at the moment, but fairly traditional, so that people can pronounce and spell it.
-because my Mum says if I was a boy I would have been Malcolm
-because it means 'dove' in Gaelic, and the dove is on my own family crest.

However having said all that, I'm still not sure I like it quite enough to use it, will see what else we come up with. A lot of the names I like are simply too common at the moment - much as I love Thomas/Timothy/Christopher I don't want DC to be one of five Tom/Tim/Chris's in reception. Even Theo, another favourite, is quite popular now.

DH's name is one syllable so we have to find something with at least two. Middle name probably James, as that runs in DH's family. I guess there are worse nicknames than Mal....

A lot of the Irish names I would consider if we lived in Ireland just won't work abroad, too challenging for spelling and pronunciation!

gnat99 · 24/02/2016 16:09

Thom, generally they tell you anything you need to know, but if you were interested in where the placenta is, you could ask that - I was interested to know, because I hadn't felt any movement. It was reassuring to know that that was the reason.

I really should get back to work, but it's been so nice digressing for a chat.... will check in on you all again later.

photographerlady · 24/02/2016 16:30

gnat99 Malcolm is a lovely name too, I don’t think I have heard anyone with that name.

Ellizardo lovely names as well! I like the idea of asking for advice about names, it really helps me grow to love a name. Sorry to hear about the cyst.

I hear you on the liking popular names but talking yourself out of it. We really liked Theo with DD (before we knew she was a girl) but yeah seems like there are 100’s of Theo’s in the area. Same with Freya, DD has 5 friends with that name. I guess it matters how much you really care that its popular. A fellow Matilda mum at play group refused to talk to me and you could see how upset she was that another child had the same name.
