Afternoon all!
Glad to hear that you all survived Christmas in once piece. Pleased to report that I too am still in one piece although having spent Christmas day with both of my Grandmothers, I am surprised there weren't more casualties. DH light-heartedly refers to them as The Racist and The Religious Nut. Unfortunately, they suit their monikers quite well. By Christmas lunch they had already put the world to rights according to their incredibly skewed and frankly disgusting views. If you want two pensioners who are racist, homophobic, keen on capital punishment and convinced of their own piety, then you need look no further than my grandmothers. And never play Trivial Pursuits with them because when asked which organisation was headed by Pol Pot they will randomly guess 'Nazis' and 'Communists'. Oh and I believe they referred to Yasser Arafat as 'the bloke with the tea-towel on his head' at one point. It was a bit like an Alan Bennett sketch, but more embarrassing.
Funniest conversation of the day:
Me: Grandma, would you like a little bit of Christmas pudding or trifle...
Grandma: I'll have Christmas pudding dear, with trifle on top.
Me: Aren't you diabetic?
Grandma: Yes, usually, but it's Christmas.
Thankfully, she hadn't collapsed in a diabetic coma by boxing day, but she had a good bloomin go.
DH and I didn't bother with presents for each other as we're skint and I figure I'm giving him a baby in May. We did get some nice things from others though. DH has lots of new power tools, I have lots and lots of books- some on parenting- and some crafty things. I was dragged into town yesterday to pick up some milk and bread with my Mum and she insisted in nipping into a few shops. The baby now has lots of sleep-suits and cardigans from a very doting Grandma.
On Boxing Day we went to watch the football. Ordinarily I can't stand football, but DH's Grandad has a corporate box so we got a free four-course meal, watched the match from a box with complimentary drinks, mince pies and chocolates. I am nearly ashamed to say that I fell asleep half-way through, but I'm pregnant so won't berate myself too much. We had lots of old friends, DH's relatives and my brother over for Boxing Day and we played the piano, drank mulled wine, ate too much and sang lots of songs. It was lovely.
Highlight: Vicar of Dibley and time off with DH
Lowpoint: Seeing relatives I haven't seen for ages and each one exclaiming 'my aren't you enormous'.
I'm currently looking forward to Sunday (not because it's NYE, IT'S MY BIRTHDAY!!) and I have my 20wk scan on Wednesday. Is it Pebble's that is on Tuesday- I know somebody is the day before me? I am incredibly nervous about it. Still having days when the baby barely moves and days when it seems to be training for the Olympics.
Anyway, have restful New Year's if I don't catch up beforehand.
Sorry to write an epic...!
