strong not strong. See!

ffauxlivia · 16/02/2016 14:23

aargh STRING!!!

TheMshipIsBack · 16/02/2016 14:41

Huh, I haven't heard anything about an antenatal HV appointment, and I don't recall having one with DS either. Scotland is maybe a little different?

ffaux I stopped driving a week ago, it's not comfortable and I don't trust my brain anymore, everything is sort of woolly.

I did have my 37 week midwife appointment today, though. Guess who's now measuring 41cm and has to go to another growth scan? This will be my third, and I'm just sort of rolling my eyes at this point. No way are they going to let me go to the midwife-led unit now. Oh well, c'est la vie.

Missikat · 16/02/2016 14:41

Wow congrats Scared you did it!!! She is gorgeous well done, you must be feeling so proud if yourself!! I can't believe how quickly you dilated too, that must've been crazy and intense. I hope you're managing to get some rest (although those crazy hormones keep you going for ages after) and that your little girl gets the hang of feeding soon enough. How much did she weigh? I'm so please Zach has a new little friend on the thread, hopefully many more to come soon.

Some of the girls names we liked (that will prob never get to use now we have two boys) were....Tabitha, Etta, Elsie, Nell...will add more as I think of then! Xxx

IndomitabIe · 16/02/2016 14:46

doc I had one the other week, but appt at the hospital (good job too, this place is gross and not getting better despite it being half term).

It's the same woman as for DS, and I was impressed that they're now giving info on all ways of feeding and not pushing only BFing.

Bit disappointed to see they're now a Virgin service though.

MrsB, mine was impressively reasonable - started by asking if anything had changed as if not she could copy details across. Got as far as "you had a happy childhood?" for those questions, and similarly general questions about DH & out marital equality. She didn't seem to feel the need to dig into specifics.

ffaux, it's you& me till the bitter end (though I want this one to come at 38 weeks please!). Do you use your laptop at home? Could you leave it in work overnight to save carrying it?

Lots of studies have shown no measurable cognitive decline during pregnancy, however, they have shown that pregnant women's brain actually shrink (can't remember the %) by this stage in pregnancy. The sentences (& daft/clumsy behaviour in my case) are most likely a product of broken sleep. I struggle with sentences on a normal Friday, it's a bit worse than normal at the moment but not as bad as I was expecting.

I have crashed and burned today! All those plans! We started well (apart from the little nap while DS was finishing breakfast), then I was overcome by tiredness and had another little rest while DS played Lego by my head. DH has just got back! Though post-stag, I'm not expecting much!

IndomitabIe · 16/02/2016 14:48

Oh yes! Tabitha is THE girls name I always wanted to use. (It's a good job this is DS2 as otherwise we'd have two 'cat' names!)

Me624 · 16/02/2016 14:54

I had a letter inviting me to a group session to meet my HV but it was taking place at 6pm on a weeknight. I don't finish work until 5.30 in a town 20 miles from home so there was no way I could make it. I figured I'll just meet them when they first come round to visit!

BumpPower · 16/02/2016 14:56

indomitable I did smile at then being a virgin service surely the jig us up on that one for us? My enormous bump (and toddler) rather out me Blush

dobbythedoggy · 16/02/2016 15:01

Well done scared, you did it! Congratulations on your beautiful little girl. Her name will come with time, there's a reason you get time to register them!

doc we're due a visit from the health visitor tomorrow afternoon, hopefully this one can follow the notes on the file to knock on the door not use the useless bell! We missed a few visits from the team when dd was tiny due to this. Have been wrestling with the idea of canceling it, as it really feels pointless; we haven't needed to access their support with dd since she was a few weeks old and know where to find them if we do. But it sounds like they have a new 'script' to follow not just visiting to write a family tree.

I'm sat in my parents' house waiting for a washing machine engineer to turn up; their hotpoint is awful. It went wrong the middle of October and hasn't been right since, took until just before Christmas to get it functioning again as each new engineer has systematically been replacing different parts. Died again last week! Their neighbors are having a new boiler installed today, I'm not used to all the noise a modern semi carries.

IndomitabIe · 16/02/2016 15:10

Dobby, I was given the red book at my appt. (I think with DS I was given it by the midwife at the hospital? Or even a few days after? I can't remember). But we're the same in that I didn't actually see her after the initial appointment last time.

Missikat · 16/02/2016 15:10

Welcome Bump, Pickle and Charley!

Marmite, that's awesome news baby isn't breech so your home birth is still looking good.

Not such good news here. Last night Zach got really cold, his breathing went quite shallow and he wasn't feeding very well so I brought him down to A&E at 11.30pm. They warmed him up (he was only 35.9) gave him some oxygen and admitted him to the ward at about 4am for monitoring on the children's assessment ward. There's not even beds here so spent couple hours snoozing on a reclining chair (not the same!). He didn't manage to keep his temp up over night so this morning is back in an incubator and has had another full septic screen, altho dr (and me) think it's most likely a cold virus which has just affected him really badly as he's tiny still. Our house is properly infected with DS1, me and
My mum and dad who were up at the weekend to help out, all with streaming colds so it's no wonder really. He (and therefore me too) will be in for at least 36 hours until the results of his screenings are back. Hopefully he can sort his temp out and we can get home again soon. I am sick of hospitals now!!

IndomitabIe · 16/02/2016 15:12

Oh no Missi, hope he (and you) recover quickly. Must've been a scary time.

ffauxlivia · 16/02/2016 15:12

indom 38 weeks would be perfect, you never know! Yes I think lack of sleep is probably the best explanation. I have no idea how you are continuing to teach!! I do use my laptop at home, but think at 36 weeks we will definitely start driving every day. Luckily DH works on same campus as me so I will get chauffeur driven to the door of my office every day then :)

Ooh scared I missed that you wanted help with names. Tell us what you like! Classic vs modern? Popular vs unusual? Long vs short? Tabitha is awesome! I love Elsie too, it's on our list but a friend used it and not sure if it would be weird, even though we're not that close.

Right, best get back to work. You lot are very distracting!!

ffauxlivia · 16/02/2016 15:14

cross post - missi sorry that you had a scary experience, god it must be horrible to be back in hospital. Sending well wishes he gets strong again soon and its just a cold Flowers

Paperblank · 16/02/2016 15:25

Scared massive congratulations Flowers
She's beautiful. Enjoy getting to know your gorgeous girl xxx

Ffaux we will still be here when you have your baby Grin it wouldn't feel right moving to the post natal board when there are babies still waiting to be born! I've had bad baby brain. I have forgotten so many words and been a total thicko on occasion - makes DH howl with laughter.

Missi sorry to hear that Zach is poorly. Hopefully he'll be on the mend and better soon.

Bump welcome to the thread Smile

Off for my afternoon nap now - I love maternity leave zzzzz

Xx

Indom yours seems much more sensible. Mine just said, "I have to ask all of the questions, even though they aren't really relevant to you and DH." Hmm

It seems a waste when there are so many families who require lots of support and can't get it (parents of the children I teach).

magpiedreams · 16/02/2016 15:30

Oh no missi thoughts with you and zach. He is so tiny I guess temp regulation will be tricky for him if he gets the slightest thing like a cold. Hope you get out of there again soon and he's stronger.

ffaux and indom I'll be on the bench with you until the end too, not due until 28th! DS came at 36 weeks but then DD didn't show up u too due date. Hoping therefore I won't go over but who knows?!

This cold can jolly well bugger off now. No adult company for me (except you guys - thanks!) since Sunday now and going a little insane...!

IndomitabIe · 16/02/2016 15:55

"Teach" might end up being a strong word! (Whatever I do it's better than an unqualified & non-specialist cover person. Teacher crisis is biting round here, no applicants for my cover despite the school being very good).

Who mentioned issues with driving? I've been ok so far, but with increasing tiredness I'm a bit worried that the drive might become unsafe. But I'd still have to get DS to school...so..?

MrsBen, yeah, I was surprised to realise the sanity of it all! I think she was going for a general vibe approach and would have dived in wth the specifics if it had looked like I needed them.

Glad we've got a good end-of-the-month club then ffaux & magpie!

I'm really looking forward to hearing about newborns and tips people are discovering!

MrsBenWyatt · 16/02/2016 16:26

I have parented today! We have been to the beach, painted and baked. Now I am exhausted but the DC have had fun!

Does this give me the right to have TV on all day tomorrow?!

March 2016 Babies #9 - we're on the final countdown!!
IndomitabIe · 16/02/2016 16:30

Excellent Adulting, MrsB! And epic cookies. And yes, yes it does!

TheMshipIsBack · 16/02/2016 16:41

Oh crap, we've had the tv all afternoon, do I have to earn it back with actual parenting tomorrow?? Wink

The driving was me indom, I'm a cautious driver and I almost turned into oncoming traffic last Monday, so that was it for me, barring emergencies.

MrsBenWyatt · 16/02/2016 17:15

Mship I did zero parenting yesterday; it was snowing and I have a significant track record of slipping in the snow when pregnant, so my parents took them out and I slept most of the day! I think I will alternate between a day of interaction and a day of 'benign neglect' Grin

MyNameIsSuz · 16/02/2016 17:43

I've been interspersing benign neglect with fun activities too, I just don't have the energy to be 'on' all the time, and ds is actually pretty happy watching tv and playing by himself. I think there's some internal conflict because on the one hand I feel like I should be making the most of our time together before the new baby comes, but at the same time I think it'll be less of a shock when the baby's born if he's already used to doing all this stuff at home without my constant attention.

MyNameIsSuz · 16/02/2016 17:49

Sorry to hear about Zach's setback missi, I hope he's back home soon.

ProperPickle · 16/02/2016 18:26

Wow congratulations scared! I have only just got back from work to check but was hoping that she would have arrived!

How did it go with the health visitor doc?

Mine came round last week and had a good nosey so glad I tidied up. Randomly, she only seemed to want to chat about the work we had done renovating our house and building our extension - as I had already finished NCT classes she seemed to think I already knew everything about having a baby (erm, no)! The only relevant thing really was that she told me about a group I can take the baby to in our town where I can get the baby weighed and meet other mums. Nothing I couldn't have found out from Google though really!
