Great scan pic violet I had a trainee do my 20wk scan too. I think I preferred it - really thorough and lots of extra info where they were talking to eachother too.

cautiousoptimist1 · 25/01/2016 12:43

Great scan violet, good luck grubby.

I'm another who hasn't bought anything yet (I do have a handmade crocheted pram blanket though which I love!) but haven't had 20w scan yet so will get that out of the way first.

laughingGnomette · 25/01/2016 13:04

Good luck Grubby and congratulations violet!

I've got my scan tomorrow at 9am - eek!

I haven't bought anything either, that said I'll be reusing a lot of DS's things so won't need much.

emma85x · 25/01/2016 13:12

Congratulations violet - gorgeous photo! I know it sounds silly but your baby just looks like a boy!

Good luck grubbywindows for today and laughingnomette for tomorrow!

Has anyone else started getting heartburn?! Ewww, not nice is it!

JellyBaby26 · 25/01/2016 14:04

I have no intention of buying anything until 35 ish weeks. I don't personally see the point yet. There will be sales etc.

We just got one sleep suit when we found out it was a boy and that will be all!

JellyBaby26 · 25/01/2016 14:05

Belle we have the next to me and dd is still in it at 8 months and she's on 40th for length and there is still plenty of room. Also great as a travel cot!

Belleboo23 · 25/01/2016 14:22

Really jelly thanks for letting me know I might just go for that it looks very comfy and will take up much less space. I have got a few sleepsuits from the next sale once we found out we are having a girl and have got the pram. I need to get sorted for peace of mind...dd came at 34 weeks so feel I can't leave it too long!

LaPharisienne · 25/01/2016 14:27

Haven't bought anything.

If it makes you feel better BabySocks, I'd put on a whopping 12 kilos (just under two stone) by 12 wks and have lost a bit since then so net weight gain is 10 kilos (just over a stone and a half) (now 18 + 5).

jellybelly85 · 25/01/2016 15:01

Another NCT query!

I'm looking at signing up to a NCT course in the area I'm moving to in Yorkshire. The course cost is £170, which seems fine to me. For those who have done this, did you get NCT membership also? Is it worth it? (Or did you make good connections on the course and just stay in touch thereafter?)

strawberrypenguin · 25/01/2016 15:54

I've not bought anything yet either, although we hopefully don't need too much as we've got some things from DS1 including loads of clothes. We do need a new pram/buggy as there's no way the one we've got will fit in my tiny car boot and a new baby monitor. I'm sure there's other stuff too but I seem to be more focused on names right now!

LaPharisienne · 25/01/2016 15:58

Re: NCT I didn't join because I thought it was quite expensive enough as it is and I'm going reluctantly.

Mrspopper · 25/01/2016 16:03

I had a good NCT experience. Met a lovely group and although a lot have now moved away we are friends and we met up each week which kept me sane. Yep expensive way to make friends but I'm glad I did.

JellyBaby26 · 25/01/2016 16:09

I did NCT, and it was great but only to make friends, not the information. I think you learn more on here!!

It is worth it though IMO as you need friends when you have a baby.

I have gained 8lbs so far. I need to slow down!!

mrsmugoo · 25/01/2016 17:07

That's the reason I didn't do it - all my friends were pregnant too so definitely didn't need the social aspect and knew I could get the info I needed from books, online, other people and the NHS freebie classes.

Can't think of anything worse than paying the best part of £200 to be given information on birth in a classroom setting with loads of strangers. Makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up!

Belvedere · 25/01/2016 17:30

I did NCT and had a positive experience. The classes weren't the most thrilling but I met a great group of people who's babies were all the same age and who I still see regularly now.
Although most of my friends have kids/babies, there is something really nice about a group of similar ladies going through exactly the same baby related things and to talk to during night feeds and what not

Belvedere · 25/01/2016 17:31

Oh and I didn't bother with the membership jelly.

nehagarg · 25/01/2016 17:42

Great scan pic violet. Smile

jellybaby I love that sleep suit. How cute!

I am looking to do some more research and then start buying at the baby show and easter sales. Plan to be ready by 34 weeks. A lot of babies in my family are earlybirds, including me (born at 35 weeks), so who knows when bubs might put in an appearance. Fingers crossed he goes full term though.

That's really helpful, thanks everyone. There's a discussion on the main Pregnancy board re: NCT - very interesting. I get the impression a lot comes down to luck regarding who you are on the course with. I'm primarily doing it to meet other mums-to-be, but also for information as I worry that being new to the area the free NHS classes might be full up!

I'd heard somewhere that NCT courses were £300 ish (!) so was quite relieved to find out it was half this. Agree its not cheap, and don't think I'll be opting for membership.

JellyBaby26 · 25/01/2016 19:12

I think price depends on where you live as well. They have different bands.

Potkettleblack2 · 25/01/2016 20:00

I also had a very positive experience with NCT and am sorry there are no refresher courses in my area! I did get membership but would advise against it-just do the course!

Exhausted this evening but my lovely MIL is here cooking dinner!

emma85x · 25/01/2016 20:13

Your MIL sounds fab potkettle

Nct here is just under £300, so expensive. However, neither DH or I know anyone who is pregnant or has children (apart from SIL) so could do with some 'friends' being around as all of mine are working during the day and then socialising in the evening!

GrubbyWindows · 25/01/2016 20:18

jelly round here NCT membership is pretty crucial if you want to get the best pickings at the nearly new sales- members get in half an hour before the rabble! I still have mine, they are a charity I believe in, so I'm a member.

Well, no scan for me today after all!!!! I turned up for my appointment to be greeted by a sign saying "this department is moving today. Should you not have had a letter with your rescheduled appointment, see reception in suite 8"! The poor receptionist in suite 8 had not been told anything about it, but was valiantly dealing with a load of confused pregnant ladies wanting scans. Turns out mine is now tomorrow at 17:15, but lots of women had no appointment rescheduled, and suite 8 couldn't make appointments (what with them being an entirely different department who just had the misfortune of being next door). So, try again tomorrow. Fortunately we've managed to sort out childcare at short notice, and work are fine about me swanning off. But I bet they have massive delays tomorrow- first day in a brand new building, and we're at the end of the day. We will be dropping DS off at his friends with his PJs just in case!

laughingGnomette · 25/01/2016 20:30

Oh no Grubby!! What a nightmare :(. At least you won't have to wait too much longer.

I think there are different tiers in the NCT pricing structure and the location also has an impact on price. There isn't that much to be gained from membership apart from newsletters and early entry to nearly new sales, but it is a charity so it helps to raise money the various things they do.

Anyone else starving all the time? I'm like a beast this week!! I've no idea how much weight I've gained and I'm too scared to find out!

strawberrypenguin · 25/01/2016 20:49

That sounds badly organised grubby hope you get your scan on time tomorrow.
I've been really hungry this week too laughingGnomette assumed it was because the little guy is starting to put weight on now but it's probably just me being hungry!

CheersMrSunfresh · 25/01/2016 20:49

Grubby how frustrating for you, but glad you don't have too long to wait for the scan, hope you're not waiting for ages beforehand tomorrow.

I decided not to do NCT classes with ds1, the nearest ones were held in the next town, whereas the NHS ones (which were excellent and allowed me to make friends) were held in the town I was living in so it seemed a bit of a waste of money. But I think the NHS classes can vary in what's offered, so I guess it's a very individual choice.

laughingGnomette I have been sooo hungry for the last week, I seem to be constantly needing to eat! I have also avoided stepping on the scales Blush
