Oh no, that sounds rubbish me! I've had it on and off too, but my stomach gets affected by hormones really easily. I'm also struggling with sleep, I keep getting cramps in my legs and my hips get achey.

Lots of wriggles and thumps, think I was just paranoid. I've relaxed a bit with every milestone but still am a bit more nervous after how my last pregnancy ended.

maybebabybee · 07/01/2016 13:51

question - is a grobag not suitable for a newborn? should I get something else for the first few days?

suz sorry you're still waiting, that's a bit pants for you!

maybebabybee · 07/01/2016 13:51

whoops x post there, glad you've had movement :)

MyNameIsSuz · 07/01/2016 13:59

I think it's fine maybe, but you might struggle to find one small enough - it needs to be tight around their shoulders and under their arms so they can't wriggle down inside it. My boy was fairly small and wasn't big enough for the ones we had at first. I'd just get a couple of cellular or thin blankets, those are always useful anyway even if you do go straight to gro bags

Rosieblossom123 · 07/01/2016 13:59

Hayley same here I bought everything apart from nappies, cream and wipes also waiting until payday. It's getting so real now looking at all her stuff, I just want her here now!!

It looks like most of us are feeling more rolling than kicks, Me I always wonder what she's doing in there and it makes me smile Grin

Suz glad you had some movement :) Flowers

Me624 · 07/01/2016 14:48

maybe the advice I've seen is that gro bags should be used from 8lb. So if you have a small baby they might not be suitable straight away. I am planning on getting a gro snug which is like a swaddle version of a gro bag and is suitable from birth.

docmcstuffins1 · 07/01/2016 15:45

I's also getting less kicks and punches and more rolls and wriggles, feels really weird and my stomach looks like there's an alien trying to get out!
Glad you've got more movement Suz, no wonder you've more anxious after mmc, it must be such a worry.
I'm planning on using a blanket in the crib initially and then a growbag as soon as he's big enough. It's so difficult trying to think of what he'll need (FTM), will he need a cardigan/jacket/pramsuit to come home from the hospital? I have visions of the MWs not letting us out because he's not appropriately dressed Shock

MyNameIsSuz · 07/01/2016 16:04

I'd wondered about snow suits too doc, they won't need them for very long but March is sometimes cold enough that it snows! I have a couple from ds that I'll dig out, but I think I'll buy a couple of little soft jackets, hats, and bundle up with plenty of blankets.

TriJo · 07/01/2016 16:16

I'd be inclined to do similar Suz - I'm in London so weather not as bad as it is further north either, I'm also due March 20th rather than earlier so more chance of being an April baby than a wintry one! If I see a cute 0-1 month one in the sales though I'll grab it.

Rosieblossom123 · 07/01/2016 16:17

doc I'm also a ftm and not sure what outfit I should take to the hospital for the way home, might take a sleep suit, a snowsuit or a jacket and a blanket, she'll end up looking like she's overloaded with clothes and like you said mw might not let us go home haha Blush

Crispylicious · 07/01/2016 16:42

Hello all. Can I join the crap sleep club? Was awake from 4.39, falling asleep about 20 mins before my alarm went off Sad I was taking a magnesium supplement that really seemed to help, so I must get some more.

Re snow suits, they're not meant to be in padded things like snowsuits or coats when in their car seats and you're meant to use blankets over them (and outside the straps) instead. I knew nothing about this until DD was 1! I don't know why the hospitals don't tell you!

I was debating whether to get a snowsuit, but the baby's not due til the end of March, so hopefully he'll be ok in a coat and blankets that we already have. Or he'll have to wear DD's pink spotty snowsuit, the poor boy!

suz pleased all seems ok, but it is all so stressful isn't it? I hate all the pressure on us to monitor movements etc. Re the blood, my piles have been going for it recently, so I got often have some when I wipe but it's def nothing to do with the baby!

Urgh time to get off this train (doing a quick post on my commute!)

Paperblank · 07/01/2016 17:20

Evening all.

I got a sticker for being a big brave girl for having my Whooping Cough jab Grin DH will not be impressed ha ha.

Also claiming my seat on the crap sleep club bench. I'm going to try going to bed at 10.30 tonight on the basis I have had 2 early nights but still slept dreadfully. Anyone else got achy hips?

Baby is coming home in their tuppence and crumble star wrap because you can use that with a car seat. My mum has knitted a little blanket to go over the car seat as well. It might be freezing when the baby arrives though then again it might be mild....who knows with the weather!!

Had a bash a writing my birth plan at lunchtime - it was a real Confused moment. As the days go by it's becoming more and more scary/exciting. I'm super nervous....

OP posts:
MyNameIsSuz · 07/01/2016 17:47

Ooh that's a good point paper, I have one of those star wraps! That's me sorted then!

I've been getting achey hips too, it's worse being back at work after a fortnight off, despite my special preggo desk chair. It's hard at night because both hips ache after a while and I have to sleep on one of them.

Paperblank · 07/01/2016 18:46

Envy at your special preggo chair suz I bet someone swipes that the minute you go on mat leave!!

DH as predicted is not impressed with my sticker. Miserable git. So I've stuck it on the fridge!!

OP posts:
MyNameIsSuz · 07/01/2016 18:54

They totally will paper if they can get away with it, though when the last girl went on maternity leave, hr swooped in and took it back that evening!

RhubarbAndMustard · 07/01/2016 19:23

Yes to the achy hips at night Suz. I'm constantly shifting and so sore both sides. I end up propping myself up and sleeping almost sitting up just to take the pressure off.

I've def had less kicks too and more rolling movement. Was getting concerned but the movement is there, just less stabby!

I'm also going for a wrap in the car seat. So vest, baby grow, wrap, then will add an extra blanket on top if needed. I've also put hat and cardi in bag just in case. At night, it will be vest, baby grow and wrap blanket to begin with, moving to grow bag as soon as poss. Some grow bags come with a room thermometer that tells you what they should be wearing.

Without meaning to scare anyone, please try not to use blankets as soon as baby can move. One of my NCT couples sadly lost their baby because she managed to roll herself under the blanket. It was so tragic.

IndomitabIe · 07/01/2016 19:24

That's so sweet TheM! My DS wrote me a letter the other day saying "I luv yoo mum"! Best thing ever!

Oh no, Rosie. Hope you manage a better night tonight. Yes, I've washed the new sleep/body suits but STILL haven't folded them!

That is a good question Q - DS had vest, sleepsuit & blanket (and moved onto a sleeping bag), but I found it so confusing when the weather changed, and with it being so hot in hospital, etc.

This time we'll be getting Woombie swaddle pods instead of blankets, but I presume it'll be vest & sleepsuit under that (but I'm still not completely sure!)

Nope, vroc, I can still romanticise that image! It's been such a long time since I rode, I'm yearning for it. But it'll be a long time yet.

hayley "The general rule for babies is that they wear one my layer than you" I found this so difficult because I'm usually wearing 3 layers (vest, top, jumper - I get cold) and 4 layers seems ludicrous for a baby indoors! Turned out that DS is a very warm person, like DH.

For going home, I've stuck a fleecy suit we had for DS in the bag, it's pretty tiny though, I think DS wore it once!

Realistically, March could be anything from 4-24'C.

I had my WC jab this arvo too. Rang up to book it and she offered me a cancellation that I was just about able to make. Result! Hurt me less than the flu jab. So far.

I need to stop Mumsnetting and get planning. I slept fine last night but didn't hit the hay early enough midnight.

We still need to order the crib, and work out whether we can get away with not buying any more drawers etc.

ffauxlivia · 07/01/2016 19:40

I'll post properly later - just wanted to put this pic here to help with car seat quandaries!

I washed everything over the holiday break - our own bits smelled a little musty after storage and something in one of the bags from a friend deffo whiffed of baby puke. Confused All put away in drawers or labelled boxes. Not bothering to stock up on nappies or cream, still have a couple packs of wipes and cotton wool pads from DS and if like us you live within half an hour of a 24h supermarket all you really need is one pack of size 1 and one of size 2 nappies. Cream can be bought as needed, and you might need to try several brands of nappy to find one that works for your baby's bottom.

Paperblank · 07/01/2016 20:08

I bought this cream for my baby's bum Grin

www.cjsbutter.co.uk/CJs-BUTTer-Tub-Unscented_p_299.html

Dsis used it on both her DC - neither of them have had sore bottoms or nappy rasH, she's sworn by it so I thought I'd give it a whirl! Obvs DH has no idea of the cost but if it stops sore bums it's worth it.

Here is my 31 week bump. Feel like an elephant!

March 2016 Babies!! New Year, New Thread - #8
MyNameIsSuz · 07/01/2016 20:17

Oof, that's a pricey cream! I think it depends on the baby - my boy never got a sore bum and I had the same pot of sudocrem for two years!

That reminded me, I read the other day something about not washing or bathing the baby for 24 hours after the birth to keep the vernix on the skin, as it stops their skin drying out apparently. Am obviously ahead of the times as this is what we did with ds (because the hospital midwives said they advise it to keep the body temp up), and he's never had any problems with his skin. There could be something in it - has anyone else heard this? Think we'll probably wait to wash this one too, even if it does mean they spend a day and night with slightly grotty hair...

hayleycookie · 07/01/2016 20:36

Maybe awww lovely bump! It looks like the "idealistic" bump to me. Well done!

Suz my ds was the same! I think we only ever used the free sample pot from a bounty pack and never needed to buy an actual pot of sudocrem! May hunt out the new sample and stick that in the bag and only buy a new one if baby has a bum problem...
Also heard the "no washing" thing but didn't hear any details as to why. Ds had a quick wash up after birth to get rid of the blood and gunk but still had some vernix in his hair and creases for maybe 2 days til his first bath. Never had any troubles with his skin either so maybe there is some truth in there.

Mship I have one pack of size ones but I'll probably get one more pack, and a few packs of wipes so I don't have to run out to any shops. I don't think I'll go as crazy as last time though when I didn't have to buy any nappies for 3 months

Paperblank · 07/01/2016 20:43

DH has a pot of sudocrem. It's ancient so I've refused to use it on the baby. He uses it on everything - I am sure if he chopped his arm off he'd whack a dollop of sudocrem on it.

I read about newborns not being bathed for 24 hours after they are born. I guess it depends how messy they are when they're born!

OP posts:
Crispylicious · 07/01/2016 20:51

Our hospital refused to bathe our daughter for at least 24 hours. They too said that the vernix is v good for the baby's skin. Meant DD had my clotted blood in her hair for a day though!
