Me too crispy, and looking back I'm horrified that all our parents held him like that, he must have smelt awful!

maybebabybee · 07/01/2016 21:33

Does anyone ever feel their baby is trying to burst out their stomach like alien?!

Ohwoolballs · 07/01/2016 21:39

Hello all, long time lurker (with a few posts about ice lollies when we were all barfing our guts up)
I'm 28+5 with DS1 Smile
Currently lying in bed on a mash up of pillows so I can kind of lay on my front to take a bit of the ache out of my hips. The hip and lower back/sciatica pain has been what keeps me up at night, as well as the rolling over tutting and grunting when I change positions. Grin

Just thought if say hello to you all and let you know how much of a comfort it has been reading all the bits from you lovely ladies going through this together! Going to try and be a regular poster (I might as well put the insomnia to SOMETHING!)
(Also DP has been saying I should post something, he's a mumsnet dad lurker now reading up on what's to come!)

marmiteandcheeseplease · 07/01/2016 22:12

maybe I deffo feel like baby us an alien trying to get out! Shes going mental inside me at the moment! Definitely hasn't settled on a position yet Hmm

Hi and welcome (back,) wool!

We didn't bathe DD d

marmiteandcheeseplease · 07/01/2016 22:16

Oops pressed send accidentally! Was going to say we didn't bath DD for a couple of weeks after she was born! And she had blood in her hair for at least a week Blush but we were really scared to do anything! The midwives did rub her down after she came out of me so she lost quite a bit of the vernix - this time I'll have in my birth plan that I don't want them to do that.

Tbh small babies really don't need bathing unless they do a poonami, we started bathing DD regularly at about 6 weeks just to introduce a bedtime routine and get her used to it.

Me624 · 07/01/2016 22:23

Welcome wool!

Paper I am like your DH - I use sudocrem for everything! Cuts, grazes, spots, dry patches, absolutely everything, I got it from my dad and it was a running joke in our house that if you broke a bone he'd just tell you to put sudocrem on it. I think I've had my pot for about 10 years Blush I have bought a new pot for the baby!

DH and I have just sorted out all the things we've bought for the baby so far and tidied and folded all the blankets, towels, muslins etc. I'm going to start washing the clothes this weekend. I told DH we'd hardly bought any clothes and he said nonsense we'd got loads - well now that we've sorted it all I'm totally right, we have 5 newborn vests, 2 newborn sleep suits, 5 0-3 vests and 3 0-3 sleep suits! That'll last baby me about a day ... I know we'll get some gifts but I'm going to buy a load of supermarket sleep suits I think!

BeautifulLiar · 08/01/2016 06:51

Oh I loved my babies having the dried blood in their hair Blush I just thought it was so natural, and it was a reminder of what we'd got through. So I didn't wash them immediately!

Me I think you do need more clothes for baby Me!! I must have about 30 sleepsuits... although lots of them are from DD2 so I didn't buy all new.

Welcome wool :)

I've got scan number 12 on Wednesday and this one will check growth as well as blood flow, but for the first time in weeks I definitely feel like I've grown!

BeautifulLiar · 08/01/2016 06:52

Oh and gorgeous bump maybe!! Not elephant like at allGrin

dobbythedoggy · 08/01/2016 07:19

Personally I think sudocrem is horriable stuff! So thick and claggy. Years and years of changing countless nappies a day mean I've wasted far too much of my life scraping it off little bottoms when it's been over enthusatically caked on. My manager at work felt the same and used to have to excuse herself when doing care plans for new children when parents asked for sudocrem to be applied after EVERY change. She was a firm believer in nurseries taking the time to check and change nappies more reguarlly rather than layer up barrier cream. I'm sure she was convinced health visitors and midwives were encouraged to market it at one point.

When cream is needed I like I thiner cream which can easyly be applied thinly, everyday metanium is what I used for dd if she started to show signs of a rare sore bottom, but think bebapthem is good too. Vasaline is so much better as a barrier in my oppinion as you need much less of it to create a barrier and it cleans off so much easier. My magic go to cream for clearing up sore bits is the yellow tube of Metanium, I always had one in the change bag and one in the bathroom.

Dh only discovered sudocrem in later life, thanks to the bounty pack. He loves the stuff and will use it for everything. I have to agree it's not bad for burns (once they've started healing) or stings or bites. Just think there are better things out their for little bottoms. And that dh wouldn't need to go through anywhere as much of the stuff as he does if I he learnt to dry between his fingers properly after washing his hands, rather than using sudocrem to protect the cracks it causes.

marmite we didn't bath dd reguarlly unless needed until she was much older. Lots of top and tailing instead. I think her first bath was when she was 10 days old, because someone, can't remember which of it was, covered her in pizza crumbs! We did have to wash her hair loads so we weren't followed around by the smell of curled milk constantly but I tended to just do it over the sink rather than do a full bath several times a day.

Well for today at least I'm out of the crap sleep club. After I don't remeber how long of very broken sleep of 3-4 hours a night last night I was on my knees with exhaustion. Dh dunked me under the shower last night when he got in from work and tucked me into a warm bed with a hot water bottle and wedged me between two body pillows. Other than dd waking me up breifly needing a week I was out for the count from 9 until dh's alarm went off at 6. Will try that method again tonight and hope it just wans't due to complete exhaustion!

Me624 · 08/01/2016 08:01

dobby I'm counting last night as a "good" night's sleep too on the basis that I only woke up once and went swiftly back to sleep! That must be the first night for me in weeks with no loo break. I'm still tired though and planning a very long lie in tomorrow!

Beautiful wow 30 sleepsuits! How many do people think I will need? I was thinking of about 10 or 12 of each size. Will that be enough? I'll get some more vests too. I do have a tumble dryer but I don't want to be constantly washing.

TheMshipIsBack · 08/01/2016 08:16

Me even with a tumble dryer you will probably find yourself doing one load of laundry daily. I think you're right about 10-12 of everything, we did fine with that and no dryer with DS, though he was a June baby and I could hang laundry outside.

beautiful great to hear you're growing!

I second (third?) the metanium recommendation. Brilliant stuff.

RhubarbAndMustard · 08/01/2016 08:29

I'm another vote for Metanium although we rarely used a cream at all and DS never had nappy rash. I just used if needed/ looked a bit sore.

DS had lots of hair when he was born and we were desperate to wash the grot out and perplexed why midwives seemed reluctant. Now I know!

Aah bliss of a lay in today. Still in bed now Grin.

Welcome back wool!

maybebabybee · 08/01/2016 08:42

thanks hayley and beaut :)

I have 12 newborn sleepsuits and vests plus other bits like hats, mitts, cardigan, coat etc. I'm not bothering to get anything else as I know full well I'll get shitloads of 0-3 month and 3-6 month stuff as gifts. Plus one of my mum's colleagues had twin boys a year ago so I'm getting a load of hand me down clothes from her.

We have no tumble dryer (may get one when we move though) and no garden so laundry will be fun for us Grin

MyNameIsSuz · 08/01/2016 09:30

We're the same maybe, upstairs flat with no dryer. It was fine, and ds had reflux so threw up on everything! Baby clothes are small, just get a decent sized airer (ours sits in the bath and gets lifted out at bath time) and drape over radiators. I also have a couple of mini airers that hang over the windows so can dry a few bits outside. Honestly, we do washing every day and sometimes our stuff builds up so we take a big bag full up to MIL's tumble dryer to catch up, but generally it's been ok.

Me624 · 08/01/2016 09:41

Thanks ladies. I have just placed an order with Asda (cute & cheap!) and now have 9 more newborn sleepsuits and 6 more 0-3 on the way! Plus 6 more vests. I have a couple of cardigans already and a snowsuit which someone bought me. Hopefully we get a some clothes as gifts as well!

Rosieblossom123 · 08/01/2016 09:42

Another rubbish sleep for me, tried to got to bed early but I regret it now, 8:30 I fell asleep and 11:30 I needed a wee, 2 woke with leg cramps and 4:30 woke up needing another wee and couldn't sleep until dp's alarm went off at 5:30 Sad don't know how I'm going to fiction at work today but at least I've got half a day then my 31week check up and my whooping cough vaccine yay Confused

me I've got about 22 sleep suits, I have a tumble dryer but I don't want to be constantly be washing so I bought a few more. Matalan does fairly cheap ones. I heard that you should have a minimum of 12 sleep suits don't know if that's right or wrong though.

Beautiful good luck on Wednesday hun, I'm so tempted to book my last scan but Dp refuses to, we've so far had 7 scans but I really miss seeing her wiggling about Sad

Another one her that feels like baby wants to escape, my belly is always going mad it's crazy to watch it does make me smile tho Smile

Here's a bump pic, 31+5!

Sorry about the typo I'm still half asleep at my desk!!

vroc81 · 08/01/2016 09:58

For those without driers can I recommend one of these - lakeland drysoon range! We have one as when we had a lodger there was a continuous line of washing that in the winter never dried, and no space for a drier.. They are worth every penny!

maybebabybee · 08/01/2016 10:05

ooh thanks for the tip vroc, they look ace!

scaredmum2be · 08/01/2016 10:41

Last night I awoke at 10,10:50,12:40,1:30,2:30,4:30 for the toilet each time!
Night before I didn't check the time at all but I still went toilet seven bloody times!
How are people are only going once or twice? I don't understand haha. I asked my midwife and I have no infection and she doesn't want to do a gtt test just says its normal. Luckily I fell back to sleep every time within five minutes but honestly it's the same nearly every night, a good night for me would be getting up three times.

I've got 5 sleep suits and vests in new born. About 20 in 0-3 and about five in 3-6. Also got a newborn cardigan, hats, mitts etc.

Ohwoolballs · 08/01/2016 12:32

Hello all Ta muchly for the warm welcome back ☺️

dobby I'm going to take heed with the bum cream advice - so far all I have picked up is a tube of "Bottom Butter" from the same company that do the stretch mark cream I've been using - it was a £1.50 bargain in Tesco so I figured we could use it if needs be.

vroc cheers for the link! Definitely need to look at a heated dryer, DP thinks we will be fine with the single airer we have but I figure it could be the inbetween not cold enough to have the heating on but not warm enough to dry anything come March.

Got my whooping cough vaccine next weds morning, I suspect most if you have had or are going to have yours soon if you're wanting it. Does it leave you with dead arm/fluey feelings or am I making my own rumours up?!

I woke up not needing a wee last night but had the same ick feeling as months ago - think morning sickness is back! Sad

MyNameIsSuz · 08/01/2016 12:32

This might sound like a mad question scared, but how long do you stay sitting on the toilet after you finish weeing? Try sitting and forcibly relaxing for five minutes after, as if your bladder is irritated maybe it's not fully emptying?

Ohwoolballs · 08/01/2016 12:45

suze you're on to something here. I stay sat down and it's almost as if the baby moves a bit on his nice squishy pillow (hah) and more wee can come out. Ahhh the things you think at 3 in the morning...!

MyNameIsSuz · 08/01/2016 12:55

Wool, my sickness is coming back too, I feel horrendous in the mornings!

And yeah, the whooping cough jab did hurt a bit, but I didn't feel too bad. The nurse did say I might feel a bit fluey for a day but I didn't feel that bad.

vroc81 · 08/01/2016 17:09

Sorry to link and run earlier... had a meeting with a room full of men to get to.. I am quite convinced they all just think i ate too many pies this Christmas!!!! But yes the airer is a life saver as long as you remember to turn it off and not leave a wash on it for about a week because you don't have time to put it away this is not something I have done, ever-

Lovely bumps ladies!

My DM is visiting... I went in to the house as I came back from my meeting and is it wrong I am irrationally annoyed at her arriving and doing some cleaning plus moving things round before they went back out again for the afternoon? If she asked what would be helpful I might give her something to do but its the just doing it like its her house or that there is something wrong with my house - that we clean at the weekend because we both work full time being one of them I guess!

She's also brought grans blood pressure machine which I said was useless as I have no idea what it is in relation to the doctors but stuck my arm in it nonetheless as it was there tempting me.. BP is back on my normal range so while I wont take it as gospel as it could just be 10 lower than the doctors on each side I might use it as a benchmark to check it doesn't go up from what it says on the home one for the few days while they are here...
