Tommee Tippee??

Isn't that the make of a Perfect Prep?

RhubarbAndMustard · 02/01/2016 19:25

Yep perfect prep is Tommee Tippee. Not sure if you can use with other make bottles though. I think bottle brands are just personal preference. We never had any issue with the TT ones (we knew someone who worked for TT so got discount) but you can get specific anti colic bottles if needed.

You start on slow flow teats and work through medium to fast. You can tell when they need to go up a level because baby just can't seem to suck enough liquid quick enough!

Paperblank · 02/01/2016 21:27

Ah! Makes sense Grin

I feel a bit like I've missed lessons at school and that my baby will come out, take one look at me and go "My mother is a complete dingbat. Get me one that knows what she's doing" Confused

Your baby will love you Paper :)

I do remember walking out of the hospital with my first baby, in utter shock that the midwives had let me leave with him! I just wanted to shout "But I don't know what I'm doing!!"

RhubarbAndMustard · 02/01/2016 21:41

Paper I was like a rabbit in headlights. I'd read so much but just knew nothing. But you just pick it up as you go along and both baby and you learn together. You can't really go wrong so just go with the flow. Oh and don't bother reading the books! It all conflicts and every baby is different anyway.

TriJo · 02/01/2016 22:18

Bit of baby shopping over the last few days - a few really cute 0-1 month outfits in the Next sale, changing mats, the Philips-Avent natural starter set from Mothercare, lots of bibs including a couple of "I love Daddy" ones to put a smile on DH's face :)

29 weeks tomorrow, even though I'm later in March it feels like time is absolutely flying in!

magpiedreams · 02/01/2016 23:41

Woah busy day on the new thread! Happy new year all.

Not heard from missi for a few days? Unless I missed an update, hope Zach is doing ok.

Lovely to read about all the baby clothes prep going on. My 8lb DD fitted perfectly into next 'up to 1 month' at birth, and I found those sleep suits by far the best in shape etc. DS 6lb8 at 36weeks was in tiny baby clothes for weeks as slow to grow - the next 'first size' I think it was called we're just slightly on the big size. I've not got anything out yet...on the to-do list!

We're having to buy a new car as can't fit 3 car seats into our estate. But of a bummer. Any MPV recommendations??

My 28w appt isn't until Friday as the bank holiday pushed it back a week. Secretly harbouring fears something is wrong as this baby doesn't seem that active - I get movements every day but not much. And people keep saying I look small. Will be reassured if measuring ok and heartbeat ok this week.

Anyone else living with heartburn?? Taking ranitidine which helps. Fed up of getting acid burn every time I bend down to pick something up!

BeautifulLiar · 02/01/2016 23:50

Magpie I think we're going to get a Chevrolet Orlando at some point. Two of my friends have them and absolutely love them. We're so not going to have time before the baby is born though!

marmiteandcheeseplease · 03/01/2016 07:55

Morning all!

maybe I think you asked on the old thread if it was the norm to stop bf at 6 months? I think some women do stop then because its recommended to exclusively bf for 6 months before starting to introduce solids, so have '6 months' as the goal but most women do in my experience carry on, because if you stop at 6 months you then need to introduce formula. Its more common I think for mums to stop either when thy go back to work or after 1 year when formula isn't needed and you can move straight onto cows milk.

I was lucky with DD, went back to work at 6 months but expressed at work (i have my own office, my boss was also very supportive and i stored my milk in the office fridge!) or worked from home and fed her as DP was taking 3 months paternity leave. Then when she went to nursery it was based at my workplace and I could go in and feed her there which I did twice a day - by the time she was 9 months she had two feeds before nursery, 2 at nursery, then however many she wanted on the evening/night. At one year I replaced day feeds with cows milk and kept morning/night feeds. I weaned her at 15 months gently, replacing morning and night feed with cows milk and honestly I was a bit put out at how little she cared! I weaned partly to get my body back, partly as I knew I wanted to try for another soon, and partly to get her to stop waking up early (5am) to feed. Total fail though as she carried on waking early! I actually regret weaning that early and ideally would want to bf this baby till age 2 (which is the WHO recommendation) but DP (who is very pro bf generally and wouldn't want us to use formula, although has said its my choice) is a bit iffy about extended bf and I'm not sure how I'll feel feeding a (large) toddler. But I'd like to make it to 18 months this time. Personally once the initial pain and discomfort was over, I enjoyed bf and was quite sad to give it up.

DPs birthday tomorrow so celebrating it today as back to work tomorrow - can't believe the holiday period is over already! Sad

IndomitabIe · 03/01/2016 08:29

Yep, back to work tomorrow Sad
I never did start my marking, so got up at 6 to do some before DS woke up this morning (and actually did some!). Need to make sure I finish now.

I don't want to go back to work!

FB reminded me that this time 5 years ago I only had 10 weeks left to work (inc half term). More like 12 weeks this time. self inflicted

MyNameIsSuz · 03/01/2016 08:48

I'm back on Tuesday, only seven weeks to go! I had almost no sleep last night, and dh said he would get up this morning but after loads of prodding just put the tv on and went back to bed snoring loudly, I'm up now and pissed off. I feel like death.

MrsElls · 03/01/2016 09:19

Morning everyone, happy to have a newby join? I'm 30 weeks with dd1, already have a 2 yr old ds Smile. Ds is an absolute delight and was pretty much a textbook baby once we mastered bf, I'm preparing myself for this one to be completely different!

Paperblank · 03/01/2016 10:22

Hello Mrs Ells welcome to our thread Smile

Newbies are always welcome x

Me624 · 03/01/2016 10:36

Welcome MrsElls!

I was back at work last week so don't feel too bad about tomorrow although last week was very relaxed, hardly anyone else was in and I didn't do much!

I'm excited as we've got our first NCT class tomorrow night. Any other first time mums doing it? scared, Rosie, gem? Trying to remember who the other ftms are on this thread!

QforCucumber · 03/01/2016 10:59

Found you all! Been a manic week or so and barely had time to even look on here.
me another ftm here but not doing any nct classes.
Welcome msellis hope you've had an uneventful pregnancy Smile

Back at work tomorrow for me too, for 6 whole weeks - roll on the 12th Feb.

Irt the breastfeeding chat-I also intend to try, bought the MAM breastfeeding starter kit with some shields and little bottles and a pump too just to see if I can get away with it.
Pram and car seat are ordered, think literally just need to get moses basket and isofix base then a stock of nappies, wipes etc.
Also noticed asda had bath towels on offer in a deep plum purple so bought a couple for my hospital bag as all ours at home are white or cream and don't fancy ruining those.

BeautifulLiar · 03/01/2016 10:59

Sooo the Asda delivery lady thought I'd had the baby and wanted a peek!!

I'm starting to think I reeeeally don't look that big do I? Confused

BeautifulLiar · 03/01/2016 11:04

30+5!

Hi MrsElls :) have you got any names picked out for your DD?

Q hospitals provide towels don't they?!

MyNameIsSuz · 03/01/2016 11:15

Ours do Beautiful, but they're titchy and I was glad I took my own! I went for a nice dark red one Grin

QforCucumber · 03/01/2016 11:16

beautiful as far as I have read they do provide them but they're usually old and scratchy (apparently) and the ones in asda were big and soft and fluffy and only £5 for a bath sheet and £3 for a bath towel Grin
You do seem teeny but your frame is also small, I'm 30+4 today and this is bumpy a week ago but hasn't changed really.

MyNameIsSuz · 03/01/2016 11:17

And welcome MrsElls! What date are you due?

hayleycookie · 03/01/2016 11:35

Wow this thread moves fast! DH goes back to work tomorrow and the routine will be re-established so I should be able to keep up with you all :)

RE breastfeeding. I exclusively breastfed for a little under a year. I was one of the lucky ones who didn't have any pain from the off! Of course I did have some painful sessions when he started teething, or decided he was going to try to a new ''latch'' position, but overall my experience was lovely and I definitely hope this little boy takes after his brother. DS1 just decided on his own to stop one day. I offered him the boob and he just kept turning away from it, but then drank happily from a bottle. Quite lucky for us I guess!
Also second that help from DH was a god send! He was always on hand bringing me snacks and juice when I was feeding, entertaining DS while I was getting ready for a feed etc. Nothing big or extravagant but the little things they do really make a difference to the whole experience!

My DS1 was 10lb 5oz and fitted into 0-3 months until he was around 2 and a half months, so I would say 0-3 is fine! The only thing we found was that the newborn stuff hardly got a look in! I think he fit into 2 newborn outfits ever and only for around 2 weeks! He wasn't a fat baby at all but he was really long.

I've bought some MAM bottles (we used TT last time) just to get baby used to bottles so DH can do some feeds if/when he needs to. I would like to get baby used to bottles (expressed) and boob after around 3/4 weeks so he doesn't get a chance to get fussy and not use them at all. I won't be buying any formula though. I know I would just give in and make up a feed if I was too exhausted/emotional. If we NEED it then we can always pop to a supermarket and pick it up within about 10 minutes.

I haven't packed a hospital bag yet! My pregnancy app says I should have done it last week. I need to start stocking up on nappies and wipes. Has anyone else already got a stash sorted? I want to take 2 bags this time (one for me one for baby), but the new changing bag isn't due to get here until mid February which is probably a bit late to leave packing to, so I'll probably have to pack everything in one big bag, and sort it out when the new bag gets here.

RE my 28 week appt - I'm on iron pills 3 times a day now, and my levels had dropped 15mg since my last appt but I don't know what the level was, or what my heart rate/blood pressure was. They haven't really said what will happen if my iron improves. I'm hoping if it does get stabilized I can carry on as normal. I think my consultant appointment in a few weeks is meant to discuss what will happen in each case scenario.

Beaut you do look small I have to say, but I think you do definitely look pregnant still. I hope we can both get the situations we would prefer! Would you rather be induced than c-sectioned? Were you induced with any of your other DC's?

Sorry for the essay! Will stay up to date more now ;)

docmcstuffins1 · 03/01/2016 11:46

Gaaaaah! Just been doing an online Mothercare shop and had over £200 in my basket. Went to review it before checkout and it had all dissapeared!!!! So frustrating. Managed to get some clothes from Next, Boots and ASDA yesterday though, so feel slightly more prepared now! Oh, and managed to find a Snuzpod with mattress in the sale too so bought that quickly before DH could change his mind about letting me get it!

Hope everyone is ok, still no internet here so not been able to catch completely but have had a skim though (can't believe we're in thread 8!) I can see we haven't heard from Missi for a while, hope Zach is doing ok.

Welcome MrsElls. I hope my DS-to-be is like your DS!

MrsElls · 03/01/2016 12:16

Pregnancy has been fairly uneventful, I struggle with awful nausea until about 18 weeks then the heartburn quickly follows, also feeling much more tired this time round, guess that's to be expected with a toddler though!

My ds had a mystery infection and bad jaundice when he was a few days old so we ended up back in hospital for a few days, they advised me to combination feed as apparently bf is harder work for them and he was getting too tired to finish his feeds. I bf then ' topped up' with formula immediately after and it was the best thing I ever did, he never got confused and would take any bottle and any brands of formula from then on in, I know they say you should exclusively bf for at least 6 weeks to avoid confusion but I'm going to do exactly the same this time round as it worked a treat for ds. Once he was feeding better I went back to almost exclusively bf but it was great to know if I needed a break he would be happy with formula from grandparents or daddy. Ftm just go with whatever your instinct tells you!

MrsElls · 03/01/2016 12:17

Oh and I'm due 13th March, we have the name sorted but its top secret!
