Loving all of the names, too. We have ours pretty much sorted, which is nothing like the last two times!

I got a letter today giving me an appointment for an antenatal HV appointment at the beginning of Feb. I don't really want one, and it must be a new thing since having DS 2 years ago.

Do you think I can refuse without being listed as 'non-compliant'? First of all, the date I have been given is before I start ML, so I will be working. Secondly, this is DC3 and I would hope that DH and I have a vague idea of what we are doing by now! Does anyone now what it will entail and how "useful" it will be?

IndomitabIe · 05/01/2016 21:52

Ah, brilliant! Thanks doc!

MrsB if I were you I'd contact them and let them know that I could only do evenings or weekends, and that its your 3rd, and hope they don't push it any further. I'm sure you won't be blacklisted or anything.

It's not the kind of appointment you could take time off work for, is it?!

I'm not a fan of HVs in general. Maybe I'll meet a better one this time...

MrsBenWyatt · 05/01/2016 22:03

Indom I have managed to make all appointments after school or during PPA time so I am definitely taking time off for a HV visit.

Like you, I am not a huge fan of HVs, although I am sure that most of them must be great. I also don't like being given an appointment without checking if you want one/ can attend!!

Me624 · 06/01/2016 06:39

Shattered Sad I woke up at 4.30am this morning with a random bout of mild diorrhea! Not sure what that is all about. Then I couldn't go back to sleep - hardly seemed worth it as I knew dh's alarm was going off at 6. So just tossed and turned. Not looking forward to work although at least I am quiet at the moment.

docmcstuffins1 · 06/01/2016 07:03

Me too Me, crap nights sleep punctuated by wired dreams then random vomiting this morning! Was wondering if I'd got a bug but feel ok again now (apart from being shattered) so must be joyous pregnancy vominting again (at 32 weeks, really Hmm - such fun!

Rosieblossom123 · 06/01/2016 07:07

Me I woke up at 4:45 and I feel like a zombie Sad dp's alarm goes off at 5:20 so I also thought there was no point of going back to sleep, arghhh today is going to be painful at work!! 5 weeks hurry up!!!

maybebabybee · 06/01/2016 07:17

Another one knackered here. Going to work from home today though as can't face the commute. Luckily my boss is fantastic.

scaredmum2be · 06/01/2016 07:29

Over slept here! Luckily mil can gave me a lift in. Forgot to set my alarm last night. Slept from 9-2 then tossed and turned until 4 and slept until 7am so not the worst night I suppose. Is their a reason why I can't fall back to sleep though? Hormones? I used to hit the pillow and be out for 12 hours if you let me so I'm so confused.
Off tomorrow for doctors app

maybebabybee · 06/01/2016 07:53

Scared if I could give you one tip it would be not to check the time when you wake up. I used to have dreadful insomnia but it improved dramatically once I banned myself from time checking - even if I thought I only had 30 mins or whatever til my alarm went off.

RhubarbAndMustard · 06/01/2016 08:08

Bad night for me too. Couldn't sleep on my 'jab' side so got very uncomfortable being on my right all night. Switched to spare room at 2am, at 4:30am DS woke up crying (and DP obliviously slept through it) and up at 6:30am. Big yawns all round today!

Have an appt with a consultant this morning to discuss possible C section. Am a tad nervous as I'm still not 100% what I want.

TheMshipIsBack · 06/01/2016 08:11

Ugh, another in the insomnia crew here today, luckily without the gut trouble though. Standing in the chill dark Scottish January morning waiting for the bus to work and all I can think of is the possibility of dozing this afternoon, maybe put on a DVD for DS.

Me624 · 06/01/2016 08:13

Sounds like we all had a poor night's sleep!

I'm feeling very fed up, it's probably just the tiredness as normally I'm a very positive person, but today I'm just feeling like a huge beached whale and very sorry for myself!

Crispylicious · 06/01/2016 08:29

Sorry to hear about the shite nights sleep. I slept unusually well last night, but that's cos DD had us up half the night the previous night, so I was incredibly tired!

We had our private scan yesterday. It was so lovely to see the baby - he even has hair now! All looked fine but the Doppler readings for the uterine artery resistance were at the very top of the normal range. The Dr said as the blood flow to the baby is fine and his size good, he's not at all worried. I just need to keep an eye on movements and that the bump measures ok. We can't afford it at all, but I may book another scan at 35 weeks, just to double check all's ok... beaut is this the issue you have with the arteries? We also got a 3 d pic, which I wasn't expecting. He has chubby cheeks already and looks a lot like his sister!

Am loving all the names. I have one I really like, which DH doesn't hate (unlike my other choices). He won't come up with anything he does like, which makes it tricky, but maybe means I get my choice?! I'm certainly not telling ils the name. When we told them what we were planning to call DD there was total silence. It's a pretty normal name, but think they like the names that were popular in the 70s and gave their sons names which guaranteed there'd be at least 4 others in their school class. They were horrified at one of their friend's sons calling his son Alfie, which I think is a v normal and nice name!

Hope everyone is ok today, apart from the lack of sleep. Hump day today, and then just a few days til the weekend.

vroc81 · 06/01/2016 10:26

Sorry for all of those that had pants nights sleep - I keep waking up to turn over which is very annoying and then had to get up early this morning as had to move the horses up a wet slippery field because the farmer needed access to their winter fields... This was me basically ski-ing along wet grass behind a 650kg very keen for breakfast elephant and my friend laughing at me going I haven't seen you move that fast for weeks!!!

Crispy if you relay the information from the private scan is that something your MW etc will then keep an eye on and possibly scan you for if they noticed any chances anyway?

hayleycookie · 06/01/2016 10:42

Pants night sleep here too! I usually wake up every time I roll over and when I do I get a good strong kick from the bump. I didn't have a single kick the whole of last night, and I realised that at about 2am so kept tossing and turning and sipping water trying to get him to move. Did keep dozing off but waking what felt like every 10 minutes. As suggested here I moved my clock so I can't see it unless I sit up and lean over DH. Had some Irn Bru, Caffeinated tea and some Chocolate Hob Nobs and he seems to be perking up a bit now, though a lot gentler than his usual jabs. DH said ''he's a baby not a clock!'' and wasn't the slightest bit concerned. Such a laid back so and so.

Rhubarb Interested to hear how your appointment goes. Are you discussing a possible elected c-section or the chances of an emergency?

I agree with Maybe Scared. Move the clock. If you wake up and see you have 1 hour til your alarm goes off you'll stress about it and not get back to sleep. If you wake up and have no idea then you can go back to sleep and that extra hour will feel like a million dollars!

RhubarbAndMustard · 06/01/2016 12:29

"He's a baby, not a clock" - made me snort hayley.
**
At this stage my delivery is still up in the air annoyingly. There is a medical reason why c section might be necessary but consultant wants to wait until nearer the time to decide. I really don't want to get into labour and then it turn into an emergency c section scenario, so I'd rather plan the elective. Have another appointment at 36 weeks so hopefully a decision will be made then.

QforCucumber · 06/01/2016 13:27

He's a baby, not a clock I love this line haha!

So sorry to hear of all of you with horrid nights sleeps, hope tonight goes better for you.

Pains still there, agony when walking now, and driving - lifting my leg to the clutch is a killer - to the point I'm seriously thinking about bring mat leave start date forward.

Seeing midwife at half 3 and will discuss then, will be a bit(lot) more skint if I was to bring it forward 4 weeks - not even sure if I can do that, but it's so painful and our sickness policy at work is only SSP so can't really afford to drop down to that for the next few weeks.
Just don't know how much of a good idea it would be or not?!

scared even though you overslept I'm glad to hear you actually slept, I do agree with not checking the time though - even just letting your eyes focus on your phone screen to see it properly will wake you up more than you realise.

vroc I can imagine that was a fantastic sight, you need a strap and to have the horses just pull you along. Smile

hayleycookie · 06/01/2016 15:06

Rhubarb Yes I'm in a similar boat. I really don't want to have an emergency c section, would much rather an elective, but would rather no c-section at all! I won't know until nearer the time if there is a possibility of it turning out to be an emcs. Have a consultant appoint in 2 weeks, followed by a scan, and will hopefully be able to get a birth plan together after those. Fingers crossed for us!

Q Is physio a possibility at all for your pain? Maybe the midwife will be able to refer you to one so you can manage the pain and won't have to take any extra leave/start leave early?

marmiteandcheeseplease · 06/01/2016 16:17

can't believe it but I just wrote a really long post and accidentally clicked on the back button and lost the whole thing Angry pregnancy brain!

sorry to hear you're in so much pain Q Flowers hope you get some treatment sorted soon.

saw my boss today for the first time in two weeks and she said that I looked smaller and even asked if I had lost weight! I haven't, but I think it's more that I was so big before that she probably had it in her head that I was really massive haha. I do feel more on top of my bump/size at the moment - not feeling so bloated which I think helps. can't believe I've passed the 7 month mark. I told yesterday that there were only 9 weeks to go and he was very Shock - I don't think it's yet a reality for him!

sympathy for those fellow poor sleepers - I also wake up several times a night to change position/desperate for water. not yet needing the loo in the night though which is good, so I manage to get back to sleep straight away. scared I would also suggest not looking at the clock when you wake - I don't and then I just try to get back to sleep. When I was suffering from insomnia last month, one thing I found that helped was breathing in a way my yoga teacher taught me - breath in for 3 seconds, and breath out for 5 seconds, counting up to 3 and counting down from 5. You can also do a 4/6 split if you have a good lung capacity (I don't). It really helped me get back to sleep. In fact one reason I would recommend yoga to you (again) is that you may learn skills/techniques not only to help relax you but also prepare you for sleep.

Have achieved nothing at work today, again. Just don't have the motivation for it and still feel like crap with this stupid head cold! I know that sometime next week the size of my to do list is suddenly going to hit me round the face and I'll have a panic!

MyNameIsSuz · 06/01/2016 17:14

Urgh - crap night's sleep, woke up with cramp in BOTH legs, and felt shit all day. And now I'm panicking about movements, I'm not sure I've felt as many today. I just had a teeny tiny red bit when I wiped, which has set me off into a panic, even though I couldn't tell exactly where it came from if that makes sense. I've just had a cold drink and not getting tonnes of movement, a little bit though, I don't know whether to give the midwives a ring or not. Trying to get on with ds' dinner etc and would feel awful dragging us both in unnecessarily. Argh!

maybebabybee · 06/01/2016 17:44

suz the lack of movement with teeny tiny bit of blood is exactly what happened to me yesterday. I went to the hospital and baby's movements were monitored, internal exam was done and all looked fine, but I'm really glad I went. I would give your midwife a call. Sure all is fine with you too, but do get the reassurance, for peace of mind more than anything else.

I totally know what you mean re: dragging yourself in for no reason but honestly, I felt like that before I went in yesterday and after I was told all was fine, I didn't regret going at all.

Me624 · 06/01/2016 18:08

At my first NCT class on Monday the instructor emphasised how much they really will not mind if you go in to be checked over if you're concerned about movement. If you've had a bit of blood Suz I would get checked out just to put your mind at rest.

everyone's different with insomnia. I find that it impossible not to check the time when I wake up during the winter. Because you just have no idea whether it's 12 and you've been asleep for an hour or it's 6 and the alarm is about to go off. In the summer I don't because I know roughly what time it is from the light levels. (Actually it's academic at the moment for me anyway because as soon as I'm awake, I need to go to the loo and pass a big clock on the way!)

What I make sure I do NOT do is check it again after that first time - that definitely leads to stress and thoughts of oh no now I'm only going to get 3 hours sleep etc.

Is anyone else finding themselves really thirsty? I'm getting through 2 litres of water just during the course of the day at the office and then I'll have several large glasses in the evening too. My urine is checked at every midwife appointment and there's never been any sign of protein so I don't think it's GD. Maybe just normal to need to drink more at this stage of pregnancy?

MyNameIsSuz · 06/01/2016 18:10

I think what's stopping me is the hospital is 45 minutes away, over an hour in bad traffic, and I'm home alone with my 3 year old. Oh I just don't know what to do!

IndomitabIe · 06/01/2016 18:46

Oh no, must've been something in the air last night with all these poor sleeps! Except scared, who managed 8 hours in two blocks! You must feel like a new woman!

I agree with maybe, hayley, Q and marmite about not checking the time. It's the only way I survived going back to work when DS was tiny!

I had a rubbish one too. DH was tossing and turning with a migraine and I woke up at every roll & huff, and then for my own two wees and discomfort! Felt awful by the time I got into work, but perked up by break.

vroc I keep waking to roll too. I've got a very rural-romantic image of you moving the horses!

hayley, my octobaby was quieter overnight and today than normal. Still moving, and sort of slowly/quietly insistent with his foot shoving, but he was back to normal while I was trying to drive home!

Q can you ask for a review of your risk assessment - see if there are any more reasonable adjustments they can make. Could you work from home? Or do more hours over fewer days to reduce the number of commutes? Or... something..?

marmite I think it's time you took a couple of days off sick to sleep this cold off! If you're not getting any work done then there's no point you dragging yourself in when you could be nestled up with Jezza getting better.

Oh no, Suz. I'm sure it's nothing but hope you've managed to be reassured by now. You sound tired and stressed. I know what you mean though - if I had worries about movement at work, it'd be a nightmare to get covered and get out and then drive over an hour to the Big Hosp to be monitored. And then there'd be issues with picking up DS etc.

Is your DH due home soon? Could you pop down then? You'll not sleep if you're worried (and that'll be no good at all).

I've surprised myself with my productivity today. But have also done a lot of sitting-down-teaching. Which, by the end of the day (after planning for 1.5 hours) made me think of #3rdTrimesterProblems: standing up makes my pelvis & belly hurt, sitting down makes my arse & thighs hurt. There's no winning!

Teenagers are being ace though, lots of volunteering to lift & carry. It's much appreciated!

More marking then early to bed for me. And you lot, by the sound of it!

marmiteandcheeseplease · 06/01/2016 19:46

me I'm also finding myself really thirsty - I found the same with DD. Basically at this point in pregnancy I think we just need more water to cover the extra blood pumping through out system, amniotic fluid etc. I wouldn't worry about it.

you're right indom I should really take time off but tomorrow is my last day in work anyway before the weekend! I'm actually feeling a bit better now, think I turned a corner this afternoon and hoping I'm on the home straight. off to pregnancy yoga in a minute and hope that will also make me feel better.

suz if you're concerned I'd go in if I were you - it's likely nothing but better to be safe than sorry. also then you won't be worrying about it. FX all goes ok.
