Ooh steady on maybe! That department store is only for the richest members of society you know!

marmiteandcheeseplease · 05/01/2016 12:07

It's the other way round for me and DP - he's the posh one! over xmas his younger sister had brought her (first) boyfriend round to introduce the family and she said to me 'he thinks we're really posh because we shop in Waitrose' and I laughed and said 'that's because you are posh' and she told me that DP had said I'd say that haha. But tbf his family are really posh (upper middle class I'd say) whereas my family are all working class and I'm the odd one out getting university educated and becoming middle class myself Confused. It's never been an issue for us as a couple though - I used to have a bit of a complex about it when I was younger, but I got over it.

Feeling awful today, cold seems to have gotten worse. It did get me out of getting up at 5am with DD today as DP let me lie in because I was ill, bless him. I feel bad as it was his birthday yesterday and he spent the whole day at work and when he came back I was just knackered and ill and a bit crap company to be honest. Really wish I could just sack off work today but I have marking that needs to be done asap... sigh.

glad your appointment went well beaut - hope your little girl stays in for as long as possible. I wouldn't worry about name reactions. We've told people our chosen name (Eleanor) and have got a mixed response. Everyone really loves our DD1s name as it's a little unusual - a 'classic' but not yet overused, so I think people are comparing Eleanor to how much they like DD1s name. DPs family like it, but I told my friends and all but one were a bit non-reactiony about it which I assume means they aren't that keen but I don't give a crap! Also, DP is quite particular about how it is pronounced - apparently it's not El-eh-NOR (the American way) but El-eh-NUH (apparently this is the British way - kinda sounds more like Elena), but most people I know (including myself at first!) seem to pronounce it the US way. I told DP he's going to have to cope with people heavily pronouncing the -OR on the end and he seems to have made his peace with it, but when I corrected my friends over xmas they all looked at me like I was being a dick Hmm

Rosieblossom123 · 05/01/2016 12:09

Beautiful I'm with you on not telling anyone names, my mum was like that's horrible, nan was like no way and friends are like oh that's weird... REALLY??? It's my baby so bugger off, now we say we don't have a name so my mum was like that very irresponsible of you! I just ignore them to be honest!

hayleycookie · 05/01/2016 12:24

Both of the names on the top of our list at the moment have been shunned by both our families. It was really disheartening at first but now we're both just effed off with it. Our baby, our choice. Sod 'em!

MaybeI'm really fussy too. I hope we both manage to choose a name! I've decided to get a top 5 together, and then pick one when he's born. Are you doing something similar or are you hoping to decide before he's here?

Beautiful That's a lovely name! Your Mil sounds like quite the strong personality. Glad you both get on now :) Our families have both been sternly told that we still have 3 months til D-day and that we're not discussing our options with them any more. Got a few sour looks and they still keep pushing their name choices on us, despite us rejecting the same name over and over again Hmm

MyNameIsSuz · 05/01/2016 12:52

I've got the opposite problem - dh is the only one who doesn't like my absolute favourite name! Cecilia is absolutely what my baby should be called, I just need to convince him. I've told his parents and my mum and they all love it, which is miles better than the lukewarm reaction we got to ds' name (Franklin). Oh, and we didn't have his name sorted before the birth either, we had a shortlist and when he was born none of them were right so we started again - took four days!

RhubarbAndMustard · 05/01/2016 13:11

Ooh I love the name Imogen. I have loved it since being a child and remember writing a story about an Imogen only I spelt it 'Imagine'. My teacher thought that was a lovely name!

Have just had my WC injection and no pain at all so far, thank God (as was dreading it)....does it get worse as they day goes on?

Maybe glad you've had some movements now. I also don't think there is any set pattern to activity. I have to admit I've not really been keeping a note of when movement happens though, just that I've had some over the course of the day/evening.

QforCucumber · 05/01/2016 13:25

Just rang the maternity people as the stabby pains got worse - felt a bit daft but the lady was really nice. Asked me lots of questions and thinks because of the locality of the pains that it's the beginnings of SPD and has given me the number for a physio group and also said as paracetamol aren't touching the pains that I'm ok to take codeine (I didn't know this) Roll on the 12th Feb, would bloody love to start maternity leave now but finances say no!

beautiful I love the name Imogen but it's DP's cousins baby who is only 6 months old so we couldn't use it if this is a girl :(

We have chosen either Harrison Paul or George William for a boy and Harriett Edith or Robyn Edith for a girl.

TheMshipIsBack · 05/01/2016 13:28

Lovely names all round, you're such a tasteful bunch. Grin

Back at work today, mornings only but full pay with annual leave, which is great. 31 week midwife appointment was also today, wouldn't normally have had it as I'm not a 1st timer, but they wanted to check measurements after that 34cm at 28w. Saw my regular midwife and I'm ... drum roll please... 33 cm. Bang on. WTAF!? Regular midwife thinks cover midwife massively screwed up the measurement. Everything else is still normal/low risk, and I feel generally ok, just tired and walking a little slower. Had carpal tunnel last time but it never got too bad, hope everyone else with those symptoms has a similarly light brush with it.

BeautifulLiar · 05/01/2016 13:44

Bloody hell MShip that's a bit out!! I was measured at 27cm the other day when I'd measured 28cm two weeks before, so pinch of salt is sometimes required I think!

Sorry Imogen is my 4 year old. Willow is my 3 year old (so quite different!). I don't like anything as much as Imogen though.

Just getting through my Bad Girls box set :) 31 weeks today!

Q - hope the pains ease up soon

TriJo · 05/01/2016 13:46

We told both sides of the family the name we're 90% set on (Conor Joseph) over Christmas - universal approval, which is nice!

Another one who quite likes the name Imogen here - wouldn't have been on our shortlist though for a girl because it doesn't work with our very country-Irish surname.

Little guy seems to be active enough for half the thread sometimes - it felt last night like he was enjoying experimenting with poking his foot outwards at the top of my bump, he literally spent about an hour stretching it out every minute or so!

Rosieblossom123 · 05/01/2016 14:44

Beautiful I love the name Willow :) We've decided we're sticking to 'Athena' that's it nothing or no one will change our minds!!

marmiteandcheeseplease · 05/01/2016 15:16

I also really like the name Imogen and it was on our short list. Another big fan of the name Willow but DP vetoed it (despite him liking it) as thought it was a bit too 'hippy'. And Athena is a very cool name!

Been looking at costs of flights to Tuscany for the summer wedding we're going to... It's a bit more expensive then I realised Shock didn't realise that at 2 years old DD pays same price as me and DP! Think our lovely plans for turning it into a holiday are out the window and it will have to be a fly in Friday, go to wedding on Saturday and come home on Sunday! I'm not even sure we can afford that Confused

QforCucumber · 05/01/2016 15:34

marmite not sure on the distance or anything but could you drive it and stay overnight a few places on the way? Make a holiday out of it that way? A friend did it in the summer to sorrento with 2 kids and they said they enjoyed it.

hayleycookie · 05/01/2016 15:37

Beautiful Your children have beautiful names! Going by the two I know I would bet the name they didn't like is also lovely.

Rosie Aww Athena is lovely too! Different but not weird. Good choice! I would stick by it too and possibly add it to the list if we have another baby.

Q Harrison is in our top 5! Good choice ;)

Marmite It sucks that airlines can charge full price for children, though I suppose to them a seat is a seat regardless of who sits in it. Is your DD not small enough to sit on a lap? Or is that not allowed? When we flew to Florida our DS was only 18 months and sat in our laps for the long haul. I don't know if the rules change when they turn 2?

Rosieblossom123 · 05/01/2016 15:48

Thanks Hayley :) I'm definitely going to stick by it, can't be bothered with family and friends throwing stupid names at us haha

maybebabybee · 05/01/2016 16:13

Tri I love the name Conor, it was one of my favourites but DP wasn't keen :(

I just had baby's movements monitored at the hospital and all was fine. They did an internal exam as well though and it hurt like a bitch - they're never normally even remotely uncomfortable for me so God knows what was going on there!

ffauxlivia · 05/01/2016 16:22

Hi all, haven't had chance to post recently but have been reading.

Had my 28 week appt yesterday and baby is currently transverse and back to back (anterior placenta). However to all those worried about positioning, my consultant told me that only about 3-5% of babies don't get into right position eventually, and for many it happens right at the end! So I'm not too worried yet

Q - I've been having some pains too, but doc told me it is probably baby compressing something, maybe due to her transverse position. About once a day, often if I've been standing a while I get a really sharp pain in lower right abdomen, right hip and right lower back. It only lasts about 5-10 mins but he said they are not BH. Man, they take my breath away though and I was in tears a few times - a bit worried how I'm going to cope with labour as when I get these pains I cry to DH 'make them go away' haha. I remember my previous miscarriage pains were so awful I wanted to die, and that was just at 6 weeks.

Have finished all my birthing classes but there were 15-16 couples all from all over the area and due at different times, and not very interactive, so didn't really make any friends and wished I was at home and had NCT!! They were still useful though.

missi gorgeous pics of Zach, so pleased about his latching - what a superstar! Hope he didn't have an infection in the end?

beaut glad things went okay yesterday, hope she can hang on as long as possible. Love your girls' names! Love all the names I've seen on this thread in fact!! My DH is still being a stubborn arse about the name I want grrr!

ffauxlivia · 05/01/2016 16:25

maybe glad to hear all was okay. I had a cervix check at 20 weeks and vaginal Ultrasound at 24 weeks and they both hurt more than previous internals have. I just figured we are more sensitive at the moment with extra blood flow maybe? Or everything is just more compressed??

BeautifulLiar · 05/01/2016 16:28

Aww thanks girls. Rosie I really like the name Athena. I'd never have thought of it and probably wouldn't dare use it but it's ace.

Ooh maybe how weird - why did they do an internal?! considers trimming self next time I go to the assessment centre

maybebabybee · 05/01/2016 16:39

They did an internal as I'd had some very light spotting - didn't find anything of concern though.

The speculum was metal - I think the ones they use for smear tests are plastic so maybe that's why it hurt!

Beautiful I tried to tidy myself up down there a few weeks ago but I was in the shower and couldn't see anything because of bump. So now have a patchy, itchy foof Blush

vroc81 · 05/01/2016 16:40

maybe glad all was fine.. I'm another one that doesn't get this patterns business -If I am active she is less so and if I am fairly quiet she seems to go bonkers but apart from noticing first thing in the morning and in the evening when I am still the day varies quite a lot.. I'm wondering if its coincidence but she reacts a lot to my bosses voice... Possibly in the the "oh my god I'm trapped and cant get away from this boring man" kicking response, so if I have a quiet period perhaps I'll have a cold coke, a lie down and phone him up for a chat on speakerphone?! Grin

beautiful glad all was ok at the appointment yesterday and she holds on in there and is too big for those tiny baby clothes!

marmite no idea where youtr nearest airport is but we have flown in to Venice with Easyjet and out of Pisa with Ryanair on one Tuscany holiday to keep costs down and also changed in Milan to connect down south with easyjet as its there Italian hub - you have to ignore their don't book these flights they are too close together message and Milan Malapensa has a lounge you can wait in which was a bit of a surprise when we did it.. Appreciate you will have small children but I find the Italian motorways pretty quick so would have a look around at the neighbouring region airport (Pescara and Rome depending on the bit of Tuscany you are going to) Or do as Q suggested and make the holiday out of the drive - we did it in a classic Mini a few years ago Italian Job style so would be happy to share the route.. Sorry a bit of an essay there and you may have thought of all this but I have spent a lot of time in and out of Italian airports..

Suz and missi thanks for the advice I think you might be right, I have my midwife appointment Thursday so will mention it to her then. I did read somewhere that Carpal Tunnel is more common if you have injured yourself and as its in my left which has been broken in odd places coming off horses that might not help.

And regarding names - the one person I told ours to screwed their nose up at it so everyone else that has asked has had a yes we have names but no we are not telling you! Its a DP family name and it was on the list of suggestions from them this Christmas so they will approve even if no one else likes it.

marmiteandcheeseplease · 05/01/2016 16:42

Q I had a look at driving and it's 1000 miles! We don't own our car is the issue, we lease it and we have a mileage cap of 7000 miles a year (which we chose as we don't do any commuting or anything) so think that is out unless we rent a car.

Hayley the rules change at age 2 - before then you can have them on your lap but afterwards they have to have their own seat! Really not sure what to do. DP is going on the stag do as well and apparently its going to be on Berlin so will cost - its looking like the whole thing will cost us at least a grand, which I'm just completely Shock about. We've got a little bit of savings as we need to save to buy a car once our lease car runs out in two years, so it's not like we have no money, but I'm balking at paying that much money out in a year when I'm going to be on statutory mat pay for 5 months! Deffo need to have a long chat with DP about it tonight...

Sorry to hear your internal exam hurt maybe. I remember when in labour with DD when I first went into the hospital and they inspected me I was in agony! Was only 1cm at that point, whereas when I was further along the internal exams didn't bother me at all . No idea why that first one hurt so much but assume it was just my body not being ready!

Rosieblossom123 · 05/01/2016 16:46

maybe I'm glad baby's okay :) I had to have an internal examination too when I went to the day assessment unit and it hurt so bad :( They had to take a swab of the cervical mucus to make sure I wasn't going into labour but they couldn't use any lube as it messes up with the test so it was painful as hell, definitely feel for you!!

Beautiful I was scared at the beginning but I love the name so much and it's so unusual that dp and I are so convinced haha oh and got an email from Cosatto, the buggy and car seat are being delivered between the 10th-14th so not too bad, can't wait to see it Grin

IndomitabIe · 05/01/2016 18:42

Glad other people are feeling the heavy belly too - well, I mean I'm glad it's not just me! Yeah, Rosie, mines really low too.

hayley, I've had the same comments (though well prompted by my moaning!). Only one person attempted to soften it with "you've really... blooming". They're right though, I'm enormous.

I agree about the kick pattern thing. I was thinking about it this morning and thinking though I don't know what his usual pattern is, I know that if I sat down and concentrated it, I would expect to feel him within 2 hours. And resolved that that would be my strategy.

As it is, he's been gymnast-baby trying to claw & bounce his way out my side during a meeting this afternoon HmmGrin

Glad the waters are looking good Beaut. Stick to your guns with the name. Once your DD is born the name will be hers alone and any other associations will be stripped away. (And I say this as a teacher!) A friend of mine changed her baby's name after a poor response from friends/family, it was such a lovely name, really suited her I thought. Now her name is quite normal & generic. But that's still her too. IYKWIM

We don't discuss names with anyone. Or each other, after a preliminary shortlisting. We'll discuss it after birth, decide and that'll be the end of it. Much simpler!

Q I love the name Robyn.

Beaut, I think I've said before, but I love the name Willow too!

Glad all was fine, maybe.

docmcstuffins1 · 05/01/2016 20:38

Love all the name suggestions. We have a shortlist too but DH has just stated he only really likes one of them! Hmm
Indom my Snuzpod arrived today and it would definately fit in the boot of a fiesta. Missi lovely pics! Go Zach with the latch - what a star!
I'm not doing NCT as there are no classes anywhere near us, but am doing a Hypnobirthing course which starts on Sunday.
