me, Indom I think we never used a sheet as a sheet, but did use them for swaddling as DS was a summer baby and it was pretty warm. You can fold pretty much any sheet or blanket diagonally into a triangle and swaddle with it. Not quite as secure as a woomble type thing, but certainly cheaper and a great alternative if you've got a puker and all of your specialized blankets are in the wash!

dobbythedoggy · 23/01/2016 20:34

missi it's so complicated! No actually it's stupidly simple. I just used salted butter. I melted a pack of lidl 'mars' bars with just under 100g of salted butter, wisked and let dd stir in rice crispies until everything was evenly coated. Pressed it into a greased tin and topped the lot with melted milk chocolate. It's fabulous! We're down to make cake for toddler group mums for monday so think we will make another batch tommorrow and add a layer of caramel (butter and brown sugar) before the chocolate.

For names if it was my choice alone it would be Theodore, Jeffry James or Wilfred. But dh won't agree to any of those at the moment. He wants lewis, but I'm really not keen as it sounds so similar to my name. The only name we've both managed to agree on so far is Edward, dh likes it as Edward James from a film about 9 ball he loves. Bump might take a while to be named even after he arrives.

MyNameIsSuz · 23/01/2016 20:47

I love Jeffrey dobby, Franklin's middle name is Geoffrey and before we knew this was a girl I was regretting not saving it. I also really love Theodore, but dh was having none of it.

Missikat · 23/01/2016 20:52

Welcome Megan and Nixxxy!

I have also just had a Snuzpod delivered, had never heard of them before this thread but they look amazing! I definitely need Zach right there when he comes home and I'm glad those of you who've built it say it seems quality and worth the money. Can't wait to get building!

Thanks Dobby for the recipe. I have a pack of lidl Mars bars I bought already so just need some salted butter...yum!
Theodore (teddy for short) was on our list too but then my sis had a son called Teddy so that had to come off.

Hayley, we must have very similar taste, my DS1 is Leo! Of course don't mind if you choose Zach too!

meganlilly89 · 23/01/2016 21:00

I used a Moses basket with dd, but looking at the cribs. Im not sure between a chicco next to me or a snuzpod Confused

Paperblank · 23/01/2016 21:04

I'm going to have to make some rice Krispy cakes tomorrow. I'm not sure DH will thank me but I'm craving them now ( or I could just buy ready made ones but that's not as much fun)

Feel like I've run a marathon today - we did a smash and grab round Mothercare, tea break in John Lewis and a whip round their nursery depth, Lakeland for some foil containers, Primark for BIG pants and nightshirts and pyjamas, IKEA for some storage boxes, Dobbies for lunch then home. I had a little lie down after all that...

Have just got one load of baby stuff to wash and then it's all done. Baby - I'm ready for you!!

hello Grin nice to meet you Flowers

Sher welcome back - sorry to hear about SPD

Am loving all the names, we've settled on ours - Alfie George or Martha Iris. I hope those names suit the baby otherwise we're stuffed!

This thread has made me crave mars bar krispy cakes like you wouldn't believe. I need an excuse to go to the shop tomorrow just to buy what I need to make them. I should have picked some up today when we were out :(

meganlilly89 - I was originally going for a chicco but the snuzpod just seems to have more features (you can lift the top off and use it separately, it rocks, it has a fabrc shelf etc), has a good re-sale value and at the time it was on offer. I'm a sucker for a bargain!

Names wise we have Eleanor Elizabeth or Oliver Raymond, likewise Paperblank - I just hope they suit. We've been calling the baby 'Babboo' for the last 31 weeks Confused

IndomitabIe · 23/01/2016 21:41

megan, take this with a pinch of salt, as of course I'd advise others to do the same as me. It's how we validate our selves & choices. But...

There's £20 between the Chicco (£150 at mothercare) and the Snuzpod (£170 at ToysRUs) but the Snuzpod feels so much more robust. However, the Chicco might be better for storing and transporting (friends of ours even took it camping).

Then there's the 3-in-1 feature that the bassinet part lifts off the Snuzpod to use around the house (also, the frame is hinged so by removing two screws you could collapse the frame to store/transport).

I've seen the Chicco one up in shops, but hadn't seen the Snuzpod 'in the flesh' till ours arrived. Again, this could be huge bias, but the Chicco feels cheaper, flimsier.

I think it depends on your priorities, really. Friends I know with the Chicco have been perfectly happy with it. (I don't know anyone with a Snuzpod).

Sounds like hard work, Paper!

IndomitabIe · 23/01/2016 21:42

Actually I think it's 4 screws to collapse it.

meganlilly89 · 23/01/2016 21:53

Thank you both Smile I had read some reviews on the chicco next to me saying it was abit travel cot like.. I think I will go with a snuzpod, it's on offer for £179 on Amazon and I have a £30 voucher I can use aswell which is a bonus!

Crispylicious · 23/01/2016 22:15

Pleased to hear the Snuzpod is good and sturdy - we have one still in its box, waiting assembly! I must order some sheets etc for it.

We bought our buggy today! It's a double beast of a buggy, but I'm very excited. We went for the double mini city jogger in the end and it seems nice and easy to steer. Hope we get lots of use out of it.

Sorry to hear about spd and CSC. SPD must be so hard.

Loving all the names. I really wanted Leo or Theodore but DH has vetoed both. We're struggling to come up with something we both like, eek!

Right better sign off and attempt not to check into CSC...

KnitsBakesAndReads · 23/01/2016 22:22

We're planning to get the Snuzpod too so it's great to hear the good reviews.

Also wanted to mention that NCT have an offer at the moment of Snuzpod + mattress + bedding set for £199.95. The Snuzpod and mattress seem to be £179.95 most places and the bedding set is £29.95 so if you were going to buy all three you save about £10 with the NCT offer.

www.nctshop.co.uk/sleep-travel/snuzpod-bedside-crib?minprice=0&maxprice=200

If anyone has seen better offers on it I'd love to hear before I go ahead and buy it though.

TriJo · 23/01/2016 23:38

We have a Chicco Next2Me - actually won it in the Amazon wish list giveaway before Christmas, can't argue with a freebie :)

MrsBenWyatt · 23/01/2016 23:57

Welcome back Sherazade.

Name-wise we are pretty set on Ted here (Edward as given name). We already have a Jennifer and a Henry.

I wanted Barnaby (watching far too much Midsomer Murders on bed rest) but DH is not impressed!

docmcstuffins1 · 24/01/2016 00:17

Hello and welcome to all the newbies

I made Mars bar crispy cakes today too - they were yum and sooo easy to make, don't think my waistline is going to thank me.

We have a Snuzpod assembled in our dining room at the moment and echo what everyone else has said, really sturdy and well made. What swung it for me (compared with the chicco) was the ability to remove the bassinet to take downstairs for daytime naps, while leaving the frame attached to the bed.

Name wise Oliver, James, George, Max, Edward, Issac and Alfie are all on our short list. Waiting to see what he looks like before deciding though.

docmcstuffins1 · 24/01/2016 00:18

vroc81 · 24/01/2016 06:36

Hi newbies!! And welcome back sher sorry to hear about the spd but glad you've got it managed.

All this talk of crispie cakes is making me want some... Where do we think it falls in my consultants "no Frosties" lecture?

Firmly in csc tonight, DH came to bed at 2am and despite some fairly ferocious kicks from me has been snoring ever since.. I've headed for the sofa as spare bed is laden with stuff from hiding it all in there to make the house look a bit better tidying.. I wake to roll over but clearly need more peace to go back to sleep.......

Crispylicious · 24/01/2016 08:35

Just a quick question for those of you with snuzpods... Have you all bought the waterproof mattress protector? We haven't got one and can't decide if it's worth the money or not!

MrsElls · 24/01/2016 08:46

We're just using a Moses basket for the first few weeks then straight into a cot bed at the foot of our bed, ds used to fling his arms around when he was asleep and if they hit the sides he would wake up so bigger space was certainly better for him, hoping this one will be the same.

IndomitabIe · 24/01/2016 08:48

I did, crispy, expecting it to be the best one for the Snuzpod mattress, but it's a flat sheet. I do wonder if it'll get all bunched up between sheet & mattress. I think a standard crib-sized fitted waterproof sheet would be better. (And probably cheaper).

I have consoled myself with the idea that it'll make an idea travel change mat!

IndomitabIe · 24/01/2016 08:54

Though I can't actually find crib-sized waterproof mattress protectors on the mothercare website... HmmConfused

RhubarbAndMustard · 24/01/2016 09:18

MrsElls my DS was the same. Hated enclosed spaces/swaddling etc. He used to sleep best with maximum space around him.

We are using the Moses basket and then into the cot too. Am so tempted by all this talk of Snuzpods, but don't want to risk the cost if this one is the same.

Ohwoolballs · 24/01/2016 09:25

Morning all and welcome to the new folks!

Horrific nights sleep where I even weeped for a bit when I realised that like vroc the spare bed was full of stuff I had been dumping sorting out during the day and though I couldn't sleep, I was too fed up to move it. DP was snoring like mad though so I had to do some loud and grunty turning overs to get him to shut it for a bit Grin

Really wish I had gone with a Snuzpod, but we were given two Moses baskets so really didn't need to!

I am starving for Mars bars. And sleep. I don't know which I'd rather have.

TriJo · 24/01/2016 11:07

IndomitabIe I've ordered one of [http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B014TF6UV4?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00 these] - not too expensive either.

Seems to be a decent chunk of Snuzpod/Next2me bedding on Amazon - no absolute bargains but not terrible either.

nixxxy · 24/01/2016 12:52

We bought the mattress protector just for ease when we bought the whole thing. Bedding is quite pricey though so going to take measurements and see if I can get some cheaper stuff. From google-ing I think asda's sheets may be okay and they're a fiver for two.

DH and I are just about to go to tesco - Mars bar crispys are on the horizon...and maybe some other baking stuff too Wink
