I'm half way through my NCT classes! Terrifyingly one couple has stopped coming because their baby has just arrived - 7 weeks early! She was due after me Shock I really, really need to get on and pack my hospital bag!

Despite checking into CSC last night I don't feel too bad this morning. Baby has just had a long bout of hiccups!

neh I hope the midwife reassures you. Let us know what she says.

Suz you poor thing, falling over as an adult is bad enough anyway without having the additional worry of the baby! It's very icy out there and I nearly slipped this morning too, I need to remember to take it very carefully. I'm sure your little one is just fine but you're right to get checked out.

maybebabybee · 19/01/2016 09:51

Our NCT classes start at the end of January...luckily at the weekend as I'm crap in the evenings at the moment! Bit nervous as both DP and I are massive introverts. We'll also be moving out of the area about 6 weeks after the baby is born so can't imagine we'll make many friends, but never mind.

paper don't worry, I feel exactly the same...I think it's just getting too close for comfort now!

best of luck tri :)

sorry to hear that Q Flowers for you. Sure all will be well!

I woke up a few times last night but I'm really strict with myself and point blank refuse to allow myself to look at my phone or do anything else but lie in the dark. I give myself a while to lie there, and if I really can't get back to sleep, I usually get up and have a glass of milk - weird but generally does the trick. My other getting back to sleep trick is making lists in my head - eg I go through the alphabet listing all animals I can think of beginning with A, then B, then C etc. Or fifty states. Or chocolate bars. Basically anything. Again sounds bizarre but honestly always works for me.

magpiedreams · 19/01/2016 10:01

Good luck tri

Sorry to hear about all the poor sleepers. Must be v frustrating but at least you will be a bit conditioned to the night feeds! I sleep like the dead at the moment, don't even hear if DCs wake, DH gets up to them! Usually wake up with the alarm, flat on my back with my mouth as dry as the desert feeling like I need another few hours! I just know I'm going to really struggle getting up in the night to feed and staying awake while feeding.

Picking up our new car tomorrow which has spurred me on to give the baby car seat a good clean and get a bit more into this baby-prep lark. Must get out the clothes this weekend, and nappies as it occurred to me they'll need a wash and tumble too having not been used for 2-ish years. I recommend bumgenius by the way if anyone, like me, likes to make work for themselves and go down the cloth nappy route!

QforCucumber · 19/01/2016 10:52

crispy I'm a non crafter like you, just don't seem to have the flair for it.

me 7 weeks early is far too scary, that makes me realise how unprepared we really are!

Baby is fine -monitor picked up movements and a base hr of 140 so no worries there at least. I however have pulled ligament in my ankle, badly bruised elbow and a couple of grazed knees. Bed rest for a few days and crutches if required Sad
It wasn't even icy - as dp keeps reminding me. Neither of us can actually work out how the hell I managed to fall!!

Hope everyone Is having a much better morning!!

marmiteandcheeseplease · 19/01/2016 11:05

Morning all, another one checked into CSC last night Sad. DD woke at half 3 and I went in to settle her as she's done it four nights on the trot now and DP keeps getting up and getting into bed with her. So I kind of felt he ought to have a break + I don't want us getting in the habit of co sleeping with her every night. I don't mind if she's ill or teeth but DP has said past few nights she's just been mucking about/playing. Anyway so she was a bit miffed that boring mummy was coming to keep her company and wasn't getting into bed with her - she kept going on about wanting daddy in bed with her. Had to explain repeatedly that daddy was asleep and sleeps in daddy's bed, DD sleeps In DDs bed etc. She finally got back to sleep at nearly 5am Confused then woke up at ten to 6! Luckily DP let me lie in tilll 7.20. Though he did get into bed with her which kind of made a mockery of my attempts to not do it, but he didn't know so can't really blame him. Still, feel bloody tired and headachey today...

paper sorry to hear you're worried, I know its cliche but you will be fine once the baby comes!

neh hope you're feeling ok, are you going in to see the midwife today then? Good luck if so. Expect baby has just dropped a bit and that's why you've got more room. I had a day recently when baby didn't move much, not even at bedtime when she is usually super active. Had a mild panic but by the next day she seemed back to normal again.

trijo good luck with test today, fx for you!!

maybe I also do sleep word games in my head to get back to sleep - a trick I discovered on the internet when suffering from terrible insomnia last year. Amazing how much it works.

magpie funny you say that about bumgenius, we haven't got on with them at all with DD she kept leaking all the time. Is better now she's older, but she's quite skinny so I think the legs just weren't the right fit for her when she was younger. We need to get newborn ones for DD2 but haven't got round to it yet... Made a massive list of things that need doing before the baby is born at the weekend, really need to start prepping stuff now - 33 weeks today so baby will be here most likely sometime in next 5-9 weeks (though I reckon she'll be late)

gemsparkle84 · 19/01/2016 11:15

Ha ha you're right woolballs I can't taste Sad I think I will give a hot chocolate a good go anyway!

Q hope you're ok after your fall.

Neh hope you and bump are ok.

Paper we are lol going to be brilliant Wink

maybebabybee · 19/01/2016 11:47

Random question but my baby feels like he's shaking a bit?! Almost like he's vibrating?

I've just googled and it seems pretty normal (as in has happened to lots of people) but wondered if anyone else had felt anything like this?

BeautifulLiar · 19/01/2016 11:58

Yes my baby vibrates too :) I captured it on video actually!

Good luck tri. I also passed on my third attempt, after failing the first two really badly, oops!

vroc81 · 19/01/2016 11:59

Good luck Tri hope it goes well!

Q glad to hear all was ok with check, enjoy a couple of days in bed watching some daytime tv?

Neh hope all is ok today with your check up.

Paper I range from being terrified to moderately less terrified, the occasionally excited is tinged with fear I'm going to do something wrong somewhere?! Our NCT classes start at the end of Jan, I'm anticipating being the first due on our group as they finish a week before my due date, hoping that DH wont be going to the last one by himself! My colleague went into labour at hers having already moved them forward having been told she wouldn't get past 34 weeks...

I had a horrible dream last night, got to my 34 week scan (which is actually tomorrow) and then scanned me to find there was just a foot?!!!! Kicking away at me but just a foot. And I was been scanned by my mums friend.. who knew me as mums friend in my dream but he's a retired accountant in real life.. Think I might put Call the Midwife on series record until after the beginning of March if thats the sort of dreams I get after watching it!

TriJo · 19/01/2016 12:34

Failed again. Silly mistake on a mini roundabout on the way out of the test centre. 3 minors for observation too due to bump getting in the way. Feck :(

That's it until about May I think. Not even trying again before baby arrives, 3 tests while pregnant already and I've cocked up every one of them.

gemsparkle84 · 19/01/2016 12:38

Sorry Trijo Chocolate

maybebabybee · 19/01/2016 12:54

Sorry Tri :(

MyNameIsSuz · 19/01/2016 12:57

Oh no trijo, that's rubbish!

docmcstuffins1 · 19/01/2016 13:40

Oh no TriJo bad luck Chocolate

Talking of random movements, while I was driving yesterday I got some almost painful movements from little one. So much so I had to pull over. My abdomen looked really wierd, and from the lumps sticking out I think he'd decided he was going to turn himself upside down but didn't have enough room so was lying transverse Confused Luckily he gave up and went back to head down pretty quickly, but it was a very strange and quite unpleasant experience. Back to usual movements again now so hopefully he won't be trying that one again Hmm

RhubarbAndMustard · 19/01/2016 13:58

Sorry to hear that TriJo. Thanks

Maybe I've had the exact same feeling you are describing. It feels like the baby is spasming to me. I even looked up if it was possible for baby to have epilepsy in the womb...but I also think I remember DS doing this too and everything I've read indicates its completely normal so try not to worry. I haven't felt it as much recently so I think it's a stage in their development.

Paper don't worry about reading baby books. It's the one thing I wish I hadn't done last time round. They just contradict each other and get baffling as every baby is different. You just work it out as you go along.

marmiteandcheeseplease · 19/01/2016 14:34

Sorry trijo Cake

A friend of mine just posted this link on Facebook for a webpage listing dates of supermarket baby events - could be useful for stocking up on nappies etc and maybe even other deals!

baby events

Ohwoolballs · 19/01/2016 15:27

What a bummer tri I failed twice before passing. I was a nervous speeder and they frown on that Brew take a nice break and don't think about it for ages.

maybe I've never had a vibrating baby but hiccups seem to be an evening show Smile

I looked into nct classes but the ones near us weren't particularly and were till nine at night, I'm normally ready for bed by that time! Mixed with the possibility of a move two months after the baby arrives I didn't fancy making friends then buggering off and possibly having to make two hour round trips just to hang out IYSWIM.
I have watched a few of the nhs/nct videos on how to bath/breastfeed and so on. I figure I'll just ring my mum if I'm stuck!

TriJo · 19/01/2016 16:27

Not going anywhere near lessons or another test until well after baby arrives now tbh. Would probably fail again simply on being the size of a house if I try and go again!

Have had a surprisingly productive afternoon in work since I got back in though, so that's something...

Me624 · 19/01/2016 17:05

Bad luck TriJo, as I said up thread I passed 4th time so don't worry!

My bump is feeling very achey today. Baby has been kicking periodically so don't think there's anything wrong though. I'm still getting a lot of kicks right up under my ribs so he can't be anywhere near engaged yet, but I'm only 33+4 so not surprising!

MyNameIsSuz · 19/01/2016 17:24

Ooh thanks for posting that link marmite, that's useful!

I'm achey too, I think I've had another grow and the baby has moved down - every time I stand up I need a wee and my pelvis hurts!

But! I just realised it's the 19th - my last day is exactly ONE MONTH TODAY! Grin

1frenchfoodie · 19/01/2016 18:56

Bad luck TriJo .

I'm another one doing NCT classes. Don't finish til 10 at night - way past my bedtime - but the attendees are a nice bunch. Hopefully we will all make it to the end of the course, we all seem to be at week 32-34 and we only have 1 more week to go.

TriJo · 19/01/2016 19:08

I'm only starting mine next Wednesday! grumble grumble tube strike day

My group is mid-late March and April due dates so I'll be one of the furthest along in the group...

IndomitabIe · 19/01/2016 19:21

OhWool - yes, most of the time One Born looks over medicalised, till you see the American way. Didn't they make midwifery illegal (maybe in some parts)? Though I think it's starting to change in places. I think this is why Ina May Gaskin's books seem quite so hippy, they're up against quite a machine.

Paper, sounds like FTM normal worries to me! Rest assured, if I can do it (and DS is still alive at nearly 5!) anyone can!

Ooh, Q, sounds sore. Glad baby is ok. Rest up now, you'll be stiff tomorrow.

Eek! That is terrifying, Me! (Glad mine's in the car already!).

maybe there was a thread about vibrating babies. DS used to feel like he was whirring, like a washing machine went on in there. Turns out when he got excited he would shake his fists (he's grown out of it now!). Apparently it's a fairly common and entirely normal sensation, something to do with neurological development.

Oh no, Tri. Sorry to hear that. Better luck next time.

Ooh, doc, that sounds uncomfortable! I had digs making me jump in assembly this morning, that was bad enough. Glad I didn't have that though!

I sympathise, Suz. I've had the head-grinding-into-bladder for a few hours the last few mornings. Feel desperate for a wee and then manage to generate a drop if lucky. I find myself doing a silly walk and physically holding my belly up with my hands trying to relieve the pressure!

Did neh update? Or is she MIA? Hope everything's ok.

scaredmum2be · 19/01/2016 19:23

My baby vibrates to. She did it this morning whilst I was in bed willing my self to get up for work haha. I assumed it was normal and judging by the amount of people who say it is on here I suppose it is.

Questions? My baby has been head down at 25 week app, 28 week app and 31 app and at growth scan to but I've never had rib kicks. All my movement is low down to. When they scanned me she had her head down and feet where by her face. Is this normal?

Also my legs are really aching today. It's in my calfs mostly. Is this a symptom of pregnancy? I've taken some parecetmol and work didn't involve anything near strenuous today so am wondering why.

Trijo- sorry to hear that. Hope your feeling ok

Vroc- I've been having pretty horrible dreams to. Night before last involved my dad falling backwards off a roof :( really shocked me when I woke up. Hope it didn't affect you too much and hope scan goes well tomorrow.

Sorry to hear of all the poor sleeps. The last night three nights for me I have woken up loads but almost straight back to sleep every time. Managed about 7 hours last night I think and the night before. Saturday night I slept 11-9 but with several wake ups and struggled to fall back to sleep once but wasn't to bad.

Dreading work tomorrow. My boss has decided to make me work with a older women (55 ish?) who has knee issues and struggles with lifting and standing for long periods. As do I at the moment. I normally work with a young ish man who is very good and helps a lot but his on holiday tomorrow. Just hope I sleep well.

To all the ftm's I am feeling so unprepared to. But I know we will all be ok.

Answered the phone to other halfs sister today and she asked when my mat leave starts. I told her I start working part time next week as had holiday to use up and she said she was wondering if on Mondays I'd like to meet for lunch etc etc. thought that was nice as was scared of being so lonely. No more Monday's or Tuesdays for me at work now! Woohoo. I have three weeks as of next week off just Wednesday , Thursday and Friday then two weeks of just Thursday and Friday then a whole weeks holiday and the mat leave starts.

Legs havnt been put to bad the last day or so. They felt the most restless at lunch today when I was sitting their with nothing to do. But the minute I'm sitting working they disappear. So it must all be in my head. Really weird.

TheMshipIsBack · 19/01/2016 19:37

scared I was told last time that babies are either classic 'fetal' position with knees to chest and feet to bum, or they fold in half with feet to face. As long as they're head down, it's fine.

My baby's vibrating right now. It's like she's reading this thread!
