Hi ladies,

I've been TTC2 for 1.5 years and I've just found out I'm pregnant Smile 1 day before Xmas eve! Best present ever! Anyone else celebrating a bfp this Christmas? I've already had to dodge chocolate mousse, champagne and Stilton...all worth it though!! Grin

Sausage I think they will book you for a scan if you report any pains/bleeding. Doesn't necessarily mean they are worried but they like to check things out to be sure. Not sure what an internal scan involves but it doesn't sound very comfortable Confused
Hope you are doing ok; try not to worry and take it easy if you can. Have got everything crossed that all goes smoothly on Friday Thanks

Kitkatmonster · 13/01/2016 17:43

I've been looking at the harmony too, and the panorama? It's a non invasive test for downs, and other syndromes whose names escape me right now. I'm torn. I keep thinking I'll wait and see what my NHS calculated risk is and then decide but they are so expensive, trying to weigh up if the more accurate result is worth the money. If I'm high risk I'd definitely do it before considering anything invasive. Costs around £4-500 round here.

DrWhy · 13/01/2016 18:06

Butterfly the Harmony is as KitKat says a not invasive diagnostic test for Downs and a few other chromosomal abnormalities (so a yes or no rather than a risk value) and it can be done at 12 weeks so less waiting. Harmony itself isn't offered in our area and the blood sample is sent off to the US so takes ages anyway. Local to me I s something similar called NIPT. It's offered combined with a scan for £399 so pretty pricey!

GlamorousBadger · 13/01/2016 20:43

Evening all, congratulations to everyone! I found out I am pregnant 10 days ago now, due date currently showing at 11th September. I am having to be really strict to stop myself being overly anxious and buying another pregnancy test..Symptoms so far have been period type pains on a daily basis along with strange fluttering/fizzy sensations! Plus tiredness, but then I'm often tired so nothing new there!! I find I am willing myself to start feeling sick as that is how I 'should feel' which I know is completely irrational! Ah! Going to be a long wait for the first scan. Anyone else 'lucky enough' to have minimal symptoms??

DrWhy · 13/01/2016 20:50

GlamorousBadger firstly, that's a fab user name! I am basically your buddy I think, found out 10 days ago, due on the 12th Sept. Constant AF type pains, horribly bloated and the tiredness feels like I've been hit by a bus. Stomach wise though I seem to get fuller sooner (probably related to the bloating Confused ) and I've weirdly gone off chocolate but otherwise fine. I'm hoping it stays this way for at least another week as I'm at a birthday dinner next Saturday.

peardrop2 · 13/01/2016 21:05

Evening! Just discovered that I'll be flying to Europe for my friends hen party at 24 weeks pregnant. Not ideal but could be worse. I'm trying not to panic Confused Rather then worrying about it I am trying to see the positives. I'll get a bit of sunshine for two days and sort of relaxing time without running after a toddler. It scares me to think I'll be far away from Dh and UK hospitals, that's the part I worry about. Lastly, I worry that I won't be able to fly come the time for medical reasons...even though my first pregnancy was a smooth ride but hey ho. I'll have to get myself good travel insurance that hopefully covers this should I need to cancel if that's even possible! Has anyone on here flown at 24 weeks?

sausage they tend to book you in for a scan if you have any bleeding. It's fine, they don't put the probe in very far and I found it less uncomfortable than a smear test (I don't mind these either!) I hope it is good news and provides you with reassurance Flowers

GlamorousBadger · 13/01/2016 21:06

Congrats Dr! I have had some bloating too I suppose..no problem eating though, sadly!! All very exciting/nerve racking! Is this your first? It is for me..may explain why I am being so paranoid!

DrWhy · 13/01/2016 21:31

Yes Glam 1st here too and utterly paranoid. Especially as I suspect I convinced pretty much on my 35th birthday, that magical date on which all your risk factors apparently multiply! Hmm Even though I know it's a continuous change in risk with age and I didn't cross some overnight threshold I'm a bit nervous.

GlamorousBadger · 13/01/2016 21:40

It's normal to be nervous but like you say, the risks can't just jump up once you reach the magic 35! I am 33 this year so not far behind you. I am sure all will be well :)

Kitkatmonster · 13/01/2016 22:29

peardrop try not to stress, unless you are going somewhere extremely odd (unlikely for hen do I think) there will be medical care available but it's unlikely you'll need it if you've had a straight forward pregnancy up to then. Flew in pregnancy with mine, I think 28 weeks was latest in my last one. This time we are still planning to go to Spain in the summer holidays, I'll be flying back at 35+6 - most airlines let you fly up to 36 weeks with a fit to fly letter after (I think) 32 weeks. Make sure you have an EHIC card as well as insurance.

ohanami · 13/01/2016 22:51

We went to Europe at 27 weeks last time which was all fine, didn't need a fit to fly letter but I know some airlines are different. We then went to dh's parents over new year - I flew back at nearly 33 weeks, dd was born less than a week later so I won't be flying that late again! Even with that behind us though I'd be comfortable travelling at 24 weeks (if anyone will insure me)

SewSusan · 13/01/2016 23:40

Hi everyone! New to mumsnet and new to pregnancy! Discovered I was expecting last Thursday, after starting our attempts the week before Christmas! Totally shocked and it still hasn't really sunk in, as I thought it would take us several attempts before we got a positive result. I'm afraid I'm not quite au fait with all the abbreviations yet, but I'm sure I'll pick them up. Due date is around 15th September, so this really was the Christmas present I was hoping for. Saw the GP yesterday and now waiting for midwife appt. I guess it will be a while. Feeling really impatient to get through these first weeks, but trying to enjoy it despite all the worries. Finding it hard to keep it quiet, as so many thoughts are buzzing in my head! :-)

SewSusan · 13/01/2016 23:49

Oh no! Going back over this thread, I have just realised I had totally forgotten about the caffeine in chocolate! I've switched to one normal cup of tea in the morning with my breakfast, and decaff for the rest of the day, but I have a major sweet tooth, and have been polishing off some Christmas choccies this week.
I needed a reason to cut down, and I think I have found it! Eek!

MargaretCabbage · 13/01/2016 23:56

Pear drop, I went on holiday at about 24 weeks last time. It was completely fine! It also coincided with the only time I didn't feel sick in the whole 9 months, so hopefully you'll be feeling well. I also love how I look in the holiday pictures, I wasn't worried about looking chubby because I had a lovely bump by then, so that was a bonus.

Welcome and congratulations Glam and Sew!

peardrop2 · 14/01/2016 04:45

Ahhh thanks ladies! Good to hear your experiences of flying in pregnancy...very reassuring! TBH I think it would be a relaxing weekend as the bride has already requested for it to be a chilled hen party so apart from a couple of late nights I don't think I've got that much to worry about and as you say...as long as I have the right Insurance and Eu card I should be fine!! I had a few pregnant ladies on my hen party and although it was in the UK they just went to bed early and didn't join us to the club. I would probably want to stay out as I would be the only pregnant one as far as I know and most certainly wouldn't want to go back to the hotel on my own. However, I might not be the only pregnant one when the time comes...who knows!!

Hi all,

I am due 16th September with my second. Had a miscarriage at 6W in November so trying not to get too excited just yet!

Congrats to all and hope everyone is feeling well Smile

VeeTea · 14/01/2016 07:09

Just catching up here, and was just about to recommend "Expecting Better" (Oster) too. It's by a US economics academic and is very evidence-based. One of the most interesting thing is there is no evidence that up to 2 cups of coffee a day is at all harmful and even evidence that more caffeine than that is bad for the foetus is pretty shaky, so really don't worry if you've had slightly more. The thing I came away with was just to have slightly less than before. Dr Why, I'm in the same situation exercise-wise, usually pretty active but it had dropped over Christmas, so I decided doing slightly more would be OK (though feeling sick is naturally holding me back!)

Kitkatmonster · 14/01/2016 09:13

drwhy and veetea I feel a bit fed up that I didn't get to carry out my 2016 fitness and diet regime! I exercise sporadically, and it's been a while for me, so I decided best not to randomly join the gym just now - as tempted as I was (there's a good offer on!) I have got myself quite excited though by googling antenatal classes in my area - planning on signing up for antenatal fitness, antenatal yoga and aquanatal - they all suggest from 12 weeks so I guess I should be patient for a few more weeks - or go swimming!

Yet more nausea for me this morning, seems to be a pattern now, and it wears off throughout the day so by evening I feel totally normal. I suppose I should be grateful I'm not being sick, but I'd rather be sick a couple of times than this nausea hanging over me :-/

VeeTea · 14/01/2016 09:31

Sounds similar on the nausea, mine's never awful (only once thought I might actually be sick), just a low level all day, including the evening sadly. Not feeling too exhausted but have been making sure to get to bed earlier than usual, but that still only means 10:30 at the earliest!

icklekid · 14/01/2016 12:22

Well your doing better than me veetea last few nights I've fallen asleep as soon as ds is down (7.30pm! ) slept right through until 6 am when he wakes so obviously need the sleep. Had been throwing up any evening meal I try and eat so given up on that anyway!

MrsS182 · 14/01/2016 13:20

I'm going on a city break at 20 weeks. I booked it for something to look forward to this year after a rotten 2015. I had planned to just wander about eating and drinking but will now have a very sober trip!
I've been going to bed at 7.30pm and felt better this morning for all of five minutes after I got up then the sickness came. It has ramped up a gear and eating the nausea away isn't helping now Sad I hope it's just an off day.

OTheHugeManatee · 14/01/2016 13:55

I would LOVE to be sleeping from 7.30pm - but DH often doesn't get in till 8.30 and I just can't bear the idea of not seeing or chatting to my husband from one day to the next even though we live in the same house Shock

Reassurance scan tomorrow. Trying to ignore the nightmare visions I keep having of something being wrong, and to look forward to it like DH.

To the queasy people, dunno if it'll work for you but I find Tic-Tacs take the edge off.

Annarose2014 · 14/01/2016 16:58

Hello All, just marking my place for now as my toddler is wrecking the place & I've 18 pages to catch up on, wow!

Due 17th Sept with No 2, but went 10 days over last time!

DS is 14 months so still up to my elbows in nappies!

Erin19 · 14/01/2016 17:54

Hey guys, First time mummy2b, although still doesnt feel real! I am 6-7 weeks preg and due 1st september. Although, the only symptoms i have had is sore boobs, now and again i feel sick, but not actually sick. And tiredness. but unsure whether that is pregnancy or just working too much haha. A bit anxious about going to the scan and they telling me theres nothing there.. is that silly?
