Hi ladies,

I've been TTC2 for 1.5 years and I've just found out I'm pregnant Smile 1 day before Xmas eve! Best present ever! Anyone else celebrating a bfp this Christmas? I've already had to dodge chocolate mousse, champagne and Stilton...all worth it though!! Grin

The only thing that helped my sickness was constant eating!

Welcome to the teacher bench zeeka!

Kitkatmonster · 12/01/2016 18:01

Thanks for the book tip Genome, that might be up my street too, I'll look it up on Amazon. I'm not entirely convinced about vit d supplements (for me) yet.

0hCrepe · 12/01/2016 18:23

Hi kitkat I had the same thought when I read about you upthread, we're in a similar situation! I too thought about telling the kids after the first scan as I would not want to worry them if I had a miscarriage. My dc are so lovely but becoming more independent it will be so great to be able to do it all over again and my ds adores little ones, he's the neighbourhood idol for all the preschoolers in the area! I'm 40 how about you?

For those talking about pate I read on the nhs website that veggie pate is also a risk because of listeria. I'm much more conscious of risk this time. Just got a supply of pregnacare!

DrWhy · 12/01/2016 19:06

I spent most of last night trawling the web for good, non-patronising evidence based books about pregnancy and gave up! So thank you very much for that tip. Smile i'm also a scientist (although not a 'real' doctor - or a teacher!) and I want actual peer reviewed research please!
At the moment I'm taking pregnacare, have cut down to one cup of tea a day (and little chocolate) and am exercising twice a week - I'm being a bit naughty as this is more exercise than I've done for the last few months but a lot less that I was doing last summer and for years before that so I figure it's not exactly 'new' - hope that's ok Confused I can't face being this unfit when I start to get heavier. I'm eating my healthy-ish version of normal but I might start to add some red meat as I'm usually pretty much pescitarian but it seems a good way to get iron and protein. If anything I'm less hungry than usual but I'm sure that will change!
I'm due September 12th for the thread info - so only 5 weeks. Feeling fine at the mo except tired, I hope that lasts!

MrsS182 · 12/01/2016 19:15

I'm constantly grazing as its stopping me feeling sick. If Im hungry I start feeling or being sick. Downside is my clothes are feeling a little tight! I've always been a grazer so nobody has noticed in the office (says a lot about me!).

Got an all day meeting tomorrow which I'm dreading. Going to have to take snacks with me or else it's going to be awful!

Pretending not to be pregnant when your pregnant is exhausting!!!!

Mrsmumb · 12/01/2016 19:24

Think im overly excited to be on the list my edd is 20.9! So strange we found out on ds 1st birthday and i remember saying to my husband when we used to speculate about our future that in an ideal world when my first baby turns 1 I would be early pregnant to have a similar age gap as me and my brother. I wish i could fastforward the next 12 weeks - so far pretty symptomless mild cramp, irritability and tiredness. Im trying to resist testing everyday too! TMI warning, I also have a lump down there which the dr has reffered me to the gynae dept at my local hospital for.
I told him we were trying to conceive and he said it wouldnt affect conception or delivery but, it could grow and they wouldn't be able to remove it if i fell pregnant. Little did i know we had already conceived, and that's making me a little anxious. He didnt seem to think it was anything sinister but a bit unusual perhaps and obviously gaeny will clear up many questions.
Having typed this ive realised i should definitely call the dr and let him know right, im worried they will insist on a c section which i would like to avoid? I was going to wait a couple of weeks before phoning the mw not sure why?? Has everyone else booked in??Confused

MargaretCabbage · 12/01/2016 19:39

Another one who is ravenous here! When I was pregnant with DS I felt sick for pretty much the whole nine months and really struggled to eat but now I want to eat EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME.

Booking in appointment on 22nd. Hoping I get the same midwife as last time, she was a bit crazy but amazing and predicted I'd have a chilled out baby boy early on last time and she was right!

Mrsmumb, I'd get booked in. I'm sure you'll get a chance to discuss all the options, and if they said it won't affect delivery that's a good start. My DS is one this weekend. Smile

Kitkatmonster · 12/01/2016 19:39

Ohcrepe - I feel so much more aware of everything that could go wrong, I've been googling antenatal tests like a crazy woman - having had my last two relatively young (I'm 35) I never worried much about risk of downs or anything really. This time I'm verging on paranoid about everything. My two are also pretty independent but I think they will be happy about a baby brother or sister. They are both very lovely with younger cousins. I can't wait to have the all clear (fingers crossed) to be able to tell them!

I've had a rubbishy day today, feeling really low, nauseous, irritable. I've got a lot of work to do and I'm feeling behind so that's bothering me too. Keep telling myself the feeling low is hormonal and to carry on through - but I had a panicky moment today where I just thought what on earth am I doing (re having a baby)? And could have burst into tears if I'd been alone! Need an up day tomorrow with a massive injection of energy!

Mrsmumb · 12/01/2016 19:47

Ohh i feel like a bit silly for not phoning right away, and now getting carried away and thinking what if its a bigger problem than i thought - its a significant sized lump- thanks cabbage, i think this is a lovely age gap all being well !

MargaretCabbage · 12/01/2016 19:55

Mrs, pregnancy does this to you doesn't it! Anything you could worry about is magnified 100 times. Yes, I think it's a lovely age gap too - though my decision was mainly because I want the newborn days all done and dusted ASAP. If DS started consistently sleeping through I know I could never go back to the sleep deprived stage again! Grin

wineandcheeseplease · 12/01/2016 20:21

I'm starving...but when I do eat I feel sick!

0hCrepe · 12/01/2016 20:26

Kitkat snap again my 2 are lovely with their little cousins too but I have to admit when I've mentioned having a baby in the past ds has been really keen but dd less so! I'm ancient compared to you!

My pregnacare arrived today after I'd had my folic acid this morning. It says to take on a full stomach which is now, quite tempted to take one now to get the extra vitamins but that would double the folic acid intake would that be silly?

Sausage2229 · 12/01/2016 20:53

Evening all, I'm still having pains in my lower stomach area and also shoulder pain. I'm sure I'm just worried because I've been googling everything (I wouldn't even know bout the shoulder pain thing if I hadn't googled it!). I've had pains now for about 4 days. What should I do? I don't want to waste the GP's time. I'm so sad, anxious and In pain! I have had to take paracetamol and I never take paracetamol!

zeeka · 12/01/2016 21:04

Sausage, I would see the gp. You won't be wasting his/her time if you're in pain and worried. Xx

sophied1983 · 12/01/2016 21:15

Does anyone else feel like time is going by so slowly?!

I will be seven weeks on Thursday. Torture keeping it all hush-hush.

Sausage2229 · 12/01/2016 21:33

Everyday feels like 2 days!!! How do women do this???

zeeka · 12/01/2016 21:39

Yes! I feel very weird about it all, very surreal. I feel like I'm in limbo for 12 weeks. I'd like to get excited and make plans, but have to keep myself in check!

MrsS182 · 12/01/2016 21:50

Yes sophied and we are at the exact same stage! Feels like forever to my booking appointment and I have so many questions. I just want to get to my 12 week scan to see that there is an actual baby in there and that everything is ok. Then I can get excited Smile

GuessHowMuch · 12/01/2016 21:59

Crepe I'm having a 5mg dose of folic at night and a pregnacare in the morning all on the advice of my GP so I wouldn't worry about too much folic on one day. Pregnacare gives me indigestion though so I'm careful about when I take it. Sausage I'd see the GP just so they can put your mind at rest (although if you're anything like me you'll find something new to worry about on the way out of the surgery!)
I've got a looooooong day at school tomorrow - going to pack extra snacks to get myself through. Hopefully being busy will keep my mind off this ridiculously slow and tedious twelve week wait.

rachywhite83 · 13/01/2016 01:15

Thrush and OFSTED. I have both at the moment. Not sure which is worse.

icklekid · 13/01/2016 03:24

sausage go and see gp shoulder pain was something mine mentioned when I had a bleed to watch out for. Hope they don't leave you in 4 day limbo if more than 7 weeks I would push for a scan to check all OK

wineandcheese that's me! Starving but sick if I eat- especially in the eve!

Those who haven't rang midwife yet I would as I was referred a few weeks ago and appointment is 4th Feb when I will be 11 weeks so scan is definitely going to be after 12 weeks as have to let midwife know which hospital etc. I'm just impatient! What's the window for dating scan? Is it up to 14 weeks?

Lots of you with 2 under 2 although my ds will only just be 2!

rachy sympathy ofsted without wine is unthinkable. Hope all goes well.

wineandcheeseplease · 13/01/2016 06:30

I'm guessing I'm meant to wait til after my scan next week to sort out a midwife etc. No idea how this all works. The scan is at the hospital unit where my IVF was started and with the nurse who has been with me all along.

OTheHugeManatee · 13/01/2016 07:22

sausage Go see your GP. Hopefully nothing but that's a possible symptom of ectopic which needs to be checked out ASAP.

OTheHugeManatee · 13/01/2016 07:25

DrWhy - you might enjoy [[http://www.amazon.com/Expecting-Better-Conventional-Pregnancy-Wrong/dp/0143125702 Expecting Better. It's essentially a meta-analysis of evidence around lots of aspects of pregnancy and childbirth and I found it very sane and useful amid a sea of over-simplified and risk-averse 'advice'.

Newtothevillage · 13/01/2016 07:32

Morning ladies, can I ask how everyone is feeling cramp-wise? Mine have been on and off, dr said nothing to worry about but just want comparative reassurance I guess.
