Hi ladies,

I've been TTC2 for 1.5 years and I've just found out I'm pregnant Smile 1 day before Xmas eve! Best present ever! Anyone else celebrating a bfp this Christmas? I've already had to dodge chocolate mousse, champagne and Stilton...all worth it though!! Grin

All these teachers around is making me nervous! One of you will start handing out spelling tests soon, no doubt! Grin

Right, hands up who's not getting any symptoms. 'cos I'm ready to swap. I've had enough of this constant nausea. And the only food I can stomach at the moment is love hearts. Very nutritious!

I had to tell my manager today, he was fab. Knew he would be, though - he's lovely.

I have a quick question about Vitamin D - I've been taking 25mg for ages, but just checked the NHS website and seen the recommended dose is 10mg. Does it matter? Can you overdose on Vitamin D? It's basically just sunshine, right?

Lilliana · 12/01/2016 08:45

I'd love to OD on sunshine

My spelling is rubbish so don't worry - I do love maths though!

I'll have your symptoms - I know I'll be moaning about them soon but would like it to feel more real and have some reassurance something is going on!!

Glad your manager was nice. I think I might tell my head - he knows about the miscarriages so I'd tell him if I mc again anyway and I teach a lot of gymnastics and dance which involves lugging heavy equipment about and jumping around!

LetThereBeCupcakes · 12/01/2016 08:53

I'm walking on SUNSHINE! WOAH-OH!

LetThereBeCupcakes · 12/01/2016 08:53

Oh Lord you're a PE TEACHER?

balalalala · 12/01/2016 08:56

I feel awful today! Sickness fully kicked in yesterday and is complimented today by horrendous indigestion. So uncomfortable and distracting! Hope you feel better soon cupcakes!

Kitkatmonster · 12/01/2016 09:08

I have nausea but no actual sickness yet. It comes and goes. No obvious trigger. I am worrying that I'm 10 years older than I was when I last had a baby, and about 2 stone heavier. I'm trying to eat really healthily and drink plenty but I do worry a lot. I'm taking folic acid but not vit d, that's obviously changed since I was last pregnant! I'll have to read up on that as I understand why folic acid is recommended but not vit d? Off to Google...

LetThereBeCupcakes · 12/01/2016 09:10

kitkat Vitamin D wasn't even recommended when I was pregnant with DS, 3 years ago.

Fifi10 · 12/01/2016 09:16

I've just been taking my pregnacare everyday as I'm pretty sure it combines things you need in the correct quantities (vitamin a is a big no no, but I have no idea about vit d). That said, my GP said pregnacare is overpriced for what it is which is probably true but one less thing to think about.

sarahanne4 · 12/01/2016 09:17

I'm with lilliana, lol, something real would be nice (I know I'm going to live to regret saying that!).

I was taking 25mg of Vit D until recently (ran out) and when I picked up some folic acid I bought 12.5mg to take along side them (just because they were handy and on offer - higher doses normally have to come from more specialist shops like Holland and Barrett). I think either would be fine (the higher levels are to bulk you up if you have a deficiency, while lower levels are closer to the rda). I haven't read anything that suggests vitamin d causes harm during pregnancy.

Lilliana · 12/01/2016 09:23

Ha ha no, I'm primary but do part time since having DD and I seem to have got 3 PE slots in 2 days!! (No outside PE thank god - I cannot throw or catch!)

I'm just taking pregnancy vitamins (that I had at the back of a cupboard - must check the dates on it) and assuming that it has everything I need in it.

genome · 12/01/2016 09:29

Vitamin D supplements are to give the baby a store to aid bone development and prevent rickets. There was also a study which indicated low vitamin D levels resulted in lower birth weights and higher rate of pre-eclampsia.
You can overdose on vitamin D as its a fat soluble vitamin (compared to water soluble vitamins which are lost in the urine if too much is present), but I think you have to take alot over a long period to reach those kind of levels. We only produce vitamin D ourselves, in the UK, between April and October with 20 minutes exposure to sunlight with no suncream on.
If you breastfeed, you should continue supplements as this is passed in the milk.

Lilliana · 12/01/2016 09:49

Ok as it's been a while I could do with a refresher. What do I need to avoid?
Alcohol
Caffeine
Rare meat (sob)
Runny eggs inc fresh made Mayo etc
Soft cheese

What have I forgotten/is new since 3 years ago?

nailsathome · 12/01/2016 09:52

Eggs isn't such a problem because of the lion stamp

GuessHowMuch · 12/01/2016 11:12

Late and liver? Think they might be ones to avoid.

I need help - I'm eating for England!!! I've had cereals, blueberries, two fig rolls and some Belvita biscuits and it's only eleven o'clock! I'm so so hungry!! Blush

GuessHowMuch · 12/01/2016 11:13

*pate

LetThereBeCupcakes · 12/01/2016 11:21

Guess you're growing a PERSON! I ate like a horse in my first pregnancy. Only weighed a stone more when I went into labour, DS was 8lbs, I was back at my pre-pregnancy weight in 3 weeks. Lost 3 stone breastfeeding him and put it all back on again when I stopped

Can we eat Mushroom Pate?

genome · 12/01/2016 11:38

Mushroom pate should be fine as I believe the pate risk is due to excess vitamin A from liver. I hate liver and pate anyway so not a problem here Smile

Caffeine is not completely banned just suggests staying under 200mg. Instant coffee is around 100mg and tea about 75mg so a couple of cups of either per day is fine. 'Proper' coffee contains much more so might be best to go de-caff if you drink that!
I personally still eat pasterised brie in toasties etc where it has been cooked, but I think it's a personal choice as to your feelings on listeria risks.
A good book which investigates all the scientific evidence for various pregnancy recommendations is 'Expecting better' by Emily Oster. I liked it as I'm a scientist so liked the evidence laid out for me!

genome · 12/01/2016 11:42

So hungry all the time! Tryinh not to put on any weight before mu booking in appointment as I'm close to a bmi of 30 Blush and I don't want to be shifted on to high risk category if possible! That being said I've had to have a snack before bed the last couple nights as I've been waking up in the middle of the night with serious tummy grumbles!

Newtothevillage · 12/01/2016 12:04

Sorry a bit late to the party but have been searching for the right group and finally found you all. Please can i join?

BFP on 6th Jan after almost a year of nothing, PCOS and endometriosis so we're very excited. It is my first so i know absolutely nothing! Been to the DR's and waiting to call midwife for booking in at the end of the week. Have a pregnancy pack.

EDD 5th Sept.

No symptoms yet other than tiredness and my nipples hurt so much i've had to put ice on them (sorry TMI).

So glad i found you!

SewSlapdash · 12/01/2016 12:15

Guess I am the same and had a very similar experience to cupcakes while pg and BF. I still weigh less now than I did before I got pg with DS.

I get starving very suddenly. I have already had two breakfasts and just trying to hold off a bit for lunch. Fortunately we have a canteen at work so I can stock up regularly. The canteen staff were the first to guess I was pg last time and I expect they will suspect this time round too Blush

MillieMoodle · 12/01/2016 12:30

Phew, I'm glad I'm not the only one who is starving all the time. I had my lunch bang on 12pm today as I couldn't wait any longer. I've been clock watching since about 10.30! I'm still hungry though!

Butterflies100 · 12/01/2016 13:16

You lucky people to be hungry! Today I have been the most sick so far and have a terrible headache despite drinking (and weeing!) loads of water. Trying to nibble at a ham sandwich cos feel so terrible. Just want to sit at my desk and cry :-(

I've cut out caffeine and alcohol completely, the thought of tea or coffee makes me sick anyway. So it's either water or hot water with lemon slices- that's all I can manage.

I hope everyone is feeling better than me xx

Lilliana · 12/01/2016 15:01

Oh Butterfies that sounds horrible. Hope you're feeling better soon.

Pate - knew there was something I was missing. Also limited tuna.

I'm hungry but am heavier than I'd like already so really don't want to gain too much, especially early on. What is everyone eating? I crave carbs but can't live off them for 9 months!

I'm 35 and with the mc does that mean I will be high risk?

zeeka · 12/01/2016 15:05

Cupcakes... Apparently no veggie pate either. There's a list on the nhs website. I've had three breakfasts today....
(Confession: I'm a teacher too).

zeeka · 12/01/2016 15:08

Sorry you're feeling so sick butterflies. I wish I had advice, but all I remember was it cleared up magically after 14 weeks last time. The only thing to comfort me was the thing I read about sickness meaning a strong pregnancy.
