Oh and constant very sore boobs!

prettyflowers111 · 01/01/2016 19:06

I know, I thought it was crazy too. I didn't give any thought to it when I signed 3 years ago but now it has me wondering. It's not even that they get out of paying too much maternity pay by cutting hours as we are only entitled to ssp anyway.
I went rummaging in the office the other day and found my file to double check the wording on it and it's rediculous. I'm so glad you think I'm doing the right thing by keeping my mouth shut.... I was ready for a few "but you signed it..." responses. I know I signed it but at the time I didn't realise the implications it would have. I work in retail, small shop, about 10 staff. We are very busy as a well known brand and situated in a shopping centre. It's basically filling, serving, tidying, cleaning and cashing up. That's about the extent of it. Heaviest box there must be around 6kg. So no, genuinely no change in duties is required at all! Desperate to tell someone but the risk of someone dropping something on Facebook or popping into the shop and congratulating me isn't worth my job, in theory I guess I'm in direct breach of contract and so could get the sack Angry

prettyflowers111 · 01/01/2016 19:24

And hello pipo! Congrats on your news, you're just a day or two ahead of me! No symptoms yet over here, just sore boobs! Hoping to avoid morning sickness as I had it horrendous last time around triggered by smells. Let's hope we sail through!

Biscuitswithtea · 01/01/2016 19:34

Pretty that is bonkers. I appreciate you signed it but it doesn't sound like you had a lot of choice. Reducing someone's contract may not affect mat pay but it makes it less likely that they will return to work after mat leave and in the meantime they also earn less. Decidedly dodgy ground imo. It might be worth contacting ACAS for some independent advice.

I'm in bed, knackered and queasy. DH is gallantly putting a chatty ds to bed. I fear his nap may need to be ditched soon Sad

Flybynight1 · 01/01/2016 19:48

www.gov.uk/working-when-pregnant-your-rights pretty I would compare your legal rights with what your employer is asking you to do. I do think that what they are asking you to do re tell them at the first possible opportunity is a bit off, you legally don't have to tell them before 15 weeks before your due date week-probably (hopefully!) their clause in your contract has to do with making sure there's cover enough for illness or appointments etc rather than anything more sinister? I'd be surprised if they could fire you over that-I'm not sure their contract would stand up in a court of law-but I'm not a lawyer either though, it just wouldn't seem right/fair/just! I think employers can be nervous around pregnant employees because the pushback if there is even a sniff of pregnancy-related discrimination just isn't worth the hassle! If it's any consolation, I've only told one person apart from DH (my best friend) and we're holding off telling anyone else until the 12 weeks scan. I would like to, but we are being cautious...

Grrrrrr!!! Been to NYD family lunch today which was lovely. Told DH not to let DD fall asleep on the way home. He let her fall asleep while I concentrated on driving back down pitch black country roads in the pissing rain with shocking visibility. "It will be fine, we'll put her straight to bed when we get home."
Of course she woke up straight away when we stopped and it's not HIM who's had to spend 1.5 of their NYD evening with a cracking headache trying to get her to go the fuck to sleep. I knew this would happen and it's never his bloody problem when it does! Am so cross, he needs to bloody well learn to listen to me.
Phew. Rant over, sorry ladies!

FourForYouGlenCoco · 01/01/2016 20:38

Ok feel better now and have actually caught up on the thread! pretty that's mental, as everyone has said! I'm sure they legally have no leg to stand on! Just tell them whenever you want and say you've only just found out, that does happen all the time and they can't prove it one way or another!
Sorry people are having worries/stresses. I've no good advice as am also totally paranoid. Am mostly trying to forget about being pg - not very practical though really! This has been a horrible, fraught first trimester and I've honestly not enjoyed a single second of it (except for scans!). For me it's just something to be got through. Once we've all got past the magic 12 weeks/scans it will be much more relaxed and enjoyable!
Welcome pipo & people that are popping back up after a bit of quietness Smile love how busy this thread is!
Have also had a couple of pregnancy dreams Blush although one of mine involved women! Unexpected but still enjoyable Grin

MrsSantaClause · 01/01/2016 20:55

Can't you just say that you'd forgotten about that clause pretty understandable after so long...

I've had the dreams too, never with a celebrity, or my dh though Shockbut very steamy Blush

Had a very bad day yest nausea wise, feeling much better today and hoping that the end of it-thinking that's a bit wishful though. I really don't remember it being so bad last time. Does anyone know any theories about one sex baby making you sicker?

lilygirl81 · 01/01/2016 21:22

Just a quick update, I'm waiting for a taxi to take me to the hospital as I have felt so awful all day, now lost 19.5lbs and getting light headed when I stand or move. Hoping I'm not kept in but have a feeling I may well be.

Eminado · 01/01/2016 21:29

Sorry to hear this Lily. Best of luck xx

Eminado · 01/01/2016 21:29

Oh helllo and congrats to all newbies

BuffaloCustardbath · 01/01/2016 22:13

Hope you're ok Lily, let us know how you are when you can.

I haven't had any steamy dreams yet, but I have been having really weird dreams - last night my 20mo DD was some sort of murderer, yes that's right, a toddler murderer, and I was trying to talk her down and stop her from using the gun. Bizarre!!

prettyflowers111 · 01/01/2016 22:22

Oh lily best of luck, best place for you!

I've been eating like a horse the last week...trying to cram all the good left over Xmas nicies in before ms strikes.

Oh Fourforyou that's just crap :( how old is DD? my dd had to stop taking a nap at around 2, it was a struggle to get her down otherwise. But she STILL falls asleep in the car all the time and is sooo grumpy when we wake her.

The clause in the contract was actually a totally different sheet signed separately, I'm with a very reputable company (scared to say incase I give the game away incase there's anyone that happens to know me lurking amongst us, you never know!), so I wonder if it's just scare mongering to get us to tell asap. From what I understand smp is calculated at 90% of your normal wage, or 140ish-y, which ever is lowest in a certain number of weeks prior to you claiming it.... which is why I can't let my contract get cut and end up with pennies coming in prior to the birth and even less after. It's a bloody minefield!

I'm off to bed ladies, been absolutely exhausted the last few days!

Flybynight1 · 01/01/2016 22:25

Good luck Lily, hope the hospital can help you! That is a really significant drop :-(

hugs to all of you who have been feeling absolutely rotten! fingers crossed it doesn't last too long for you

Alfie my Due Date buddy, sorry to hear you've been struggling too!! It's only 3 and a bit weeks to go until the fabled 'second trimester of wonderfulness'-hang in there!!!

So I've been feeling really 'tight' in my lower abdomen the last week or so. I'm bloated and a bit constipated but when I try and really stretch in the mornings or even when lying down flat on my back I find it uncomfortable and even sore in my womb region. Is this a feature of things growing and getting crowded? I've got some prenatal yoga/Pilates DVDs arriving on Monday and I'm hoping to get straight on them, but worried about stretching my belly area out? Can it cause damage?! I didn't think I would be quite this paranoid about EVERYTHING but there you go Blush

prettyflowers111 · 01/01/2016 22:27

Oh, and on a totally different note, anyone wondering about multiples?
Im always when stumped when people say about their oh being a twin or having twins in his family. I'm a twin myself (non identical), and from my understanding if there's identical twins in the family it means nothing, just a fluke of nature and completely not genetic. Non identical twins are 2 eggs released and fertilised.... Therefore it was either a fluke that once or the mother over ovulates, in which case she can pass the over ovulating gene onto a daughter, or it can be passed via a son onto his daughter etc... so the male twins have absolutely no bearing on whether his partner conceives twins.

Is that correct? Please tell me if I'm wrong I'm genuinely interested!

LeoLemur · 01/01/2016 22:57

I'm risking being a bit of a lurker - every time I check in there's so much to catch up on and I think of loads of responses as I'm reading, but by the time I get to the end have forgotten most of it! So please accept a general welcome to the newbies, love to those who are having a tough time, especially lily atm and all those sharing wise words. pretty 100% tell work when you're ready and make like it's news to you. I've never got how people get far along without realising, but my colleague was saying she visited a friend she hadn't seen for a while and said "congratulations"- turns out she had no idea she was 5 months pg and thought it was her IBS playing up!
My current thing is wondering whether I'll get the dating scan and nuchal scan, and bloods rolled into my booking appt cos at the moment I'm out of the country from week 8 to week 16 except 2, maybe 3 weeks at weeks 10-12. Great planning huh?! Can't deny I'm a bit jel of the early scans but taking your wise words that my body's on it...

OwlinaTree · 01/01/2016 22:59

I think that sounds right re non identical twins, it would come from the mother's side. My mum's an identical twin, but that's non genetic as you say.

LeoLemur · 01/01/2016 23:00

Totally crashing out now as to DP's surprise I actually joined him going out at 2.30am this morning! (Yes that was go out, not stay out til lol)

Flybynight1 · 01/01/2016 23:05

Leo it might be worth chatting with your midwife as to your expectations and your travel plans before your appt-if it's anything like my booking appt, the surgery was packed and we were in and out in 30 minutes having only filled in a questionnaire, been weighed and handed the pregnancy pack-another appointment at 10 weeks for bloods and urine and waiting on hearing for the 12 week scan appt as that is done out with the surgery and is heavily subscribed!

Would it be worth looking into a private scan before you head off? I paid ~£100 for my 7week one and it was a nice reassurance. Hope you're going somewhere nice!!

FourForYouGlenCoco · 01/01/2016 23:49

Well I calmed down (am very grumpy when I get going but it blows over quickly!) and DD and DH both shushed and let me watch Sherlock in relative peace. Luckily for them.
lily I'm sorry you're feeling so bad, how awful Sad expect hosp will keep you in but at least they can look after you there! Fingers crossed they can do something for you.
Fly I have the tightness/soreness too! It feels to me a bit like the achy/tender feeling just before your period starts, not comfortable! Am getting some muscle pains too which I assume is things stretching. Im telling myself that stretching/pains = womb growth which = a nice healthy growing baby!
pretty we'll all be on high alert for twins for you! Your version of how it all works sounds right. We have got someone on the thread pregnant with triplets but she's gone quiet!
Leo I expect your booking midwife will be able to wrangle something. Do you have your booking appt sorted? Might be worth mentioning it to them beforehand so they know they're on a time limit! They can work magic when they really need to though. In my trust they send your booking notes to the hospital, then hospital sends out a scan letter, but I don't have my first appt til 11.5 weeks so I think my mw will possibly just ring the maternity scanning dept there and then to book it in - expect yours will be able to do something similar if necessary!
Have felt really rough this evening, pounding headache and very nauseous - was thinking symptoms had maybe eased off a bit but I think it was just wishful thinking!
Is anyone else getting random stabby pains in their vag/cervix? Feels like little lightening bolts, very uncomfortable. Never had it with DD, it's horrible!

lilygirl81 · 02/01/2016 00:24

Well, I'm on the ward, had an injection and waiting for my drip. DH has just gone home, the poor thing was exhausted and so worried. I have the loveliest midwife looking after me so feeling more positive. Thank you for all your thoughts, right now I'm in heaven with a huge jug of ice cubes to munch through.

Fly my sister was told not to do yoga until 12 weeks, but it should say on the DVD. (Or book, sorry, can't remember which you said you were getting).

Flybynight1 · 02/01/2016 00:31

Sleep well lily! Are you in the ARI? Hope they treat you well and you are feeling better in the morning!!

Ooo thanks for the heads up re yoga! The Amazon reviews said people were following them from the first trimester, but I will defo check the box when they arrive... Up until we were TTC I was following the insanity DVD on and off and I am missing a bit of a workout! Never thought I'd ever say that :-P

lilygirl81 · 02/01/2016 00:56

Thanks Fly I'm in the Rubieslaw ward at ARI, they are so lovely here

BuffaloCustardbath · 02/01/2016 01:19

Sleep well lily, I hope the drip makes you feel a bit better and you get a good nights rest. Are you on a meternity ward? I'm not sure how it works when you're in early pregnancy and get admitted into hospital.

lilygirl81 · 02/01/2016 01:21

Thanks buffallo I'm in the EPU at the maternity hospital, but not sure if each place is different X
