Well we were TTC but now we've graduated to growing a small human. Good buy peeing on opk's and ic's every day hello monitoring exactly how sick and bloated we feel and ensuring that we're never more than 30ft from a bathroom!

It's the TTC#1 graduates thread! Come and join us on a no holds barred exploration of first time pregnancy (but be really careful about opening any links about cervical fluid unless you have a very strong constitution... Let's face it you're pregnant so you don't)

runner I'm sorry you are still feeling so ill - how is your mum getting on! It sounded like social services were on the move at last!

Sorry for all the others that are feeling so sick but (and I might regret saying this) I'm starting to freak out at lack of symptoms. I'm 6+4 today, no cramps any longer, no nausea, no odd smells, tastes or craving. A week ago I definitely felt pregnant, now I really don't. No idea how I'm going to last another 6 weeks to see if things are OK although I guess if they are not there is nothing I can do about it.

BunchOfBobs · 21/01/2016 19:36

Shelb. Doppler is great. Heard the heart beat twice, though baby is mostly shy. I love the sound of the placenta whooshing it's really relaxing. Took some patience though and probably helps I'm 11weeks tomorrow.

Runner05 · 21/01/2016 19:50

Shelb I tend to have salad urges when I've eaten mostly crap. Go with it!

Pink I'm pretty sure it was the junk food yesterday and the sausage and egg mcmuffin this morning that did it. Up until now I've mostly stuck to toast, fruit, pasta and fresh meat. Junk food is definitely not worth it!!!

Dr the social worker is putting in the request for a care home placement for my mum and is arranging for mum to have an emergency placement until her permanent placement is arranged. I'm really happy with this but it means that I need to get better and clear out her flat for her!
I really hope you don't end up with nasty symptoms like some of us but I believe most people start getting morning sickness around 7 weeks.

Still feeling rough but can't sleep. The universe is not my friend!

Thank you all for welcoming me! I'm still trying to get my head around. Two of DH's colleagues announced their wives are pregnant today and a third colleague (who is a mum) asked DH when he was going to start a family. He must have looked like a rabbit in headlights!

Currently I'm alternating between feeling really excited and really daunted. Worrying about silly things too, like how I'm going to tell work or how I'm going to manage to go out with the girls and not give the game away by not drinking!

Feel a bit queasy but DH thinks it's nerves and not pregnancy nausea. Hard to tell.

I've been daydreaming about baby names this evening. I'm not letting myself look at baby items until after first scan... although I think I need to buy some trousers in a bigger size pretty sharpish.

Newmrs22 · 21/01/2016 21:28

Aww Leonie it is scary at first.

Scan was good! I'm Only 9 weeks and 4 days though! Gotta go back in 3 weeks but so far all looks fine. Baby was wiggling a lot and we saw heartbeat Grin

Runner05 · 22/01/2016 08:56

Leonie the way you feel right now is the same as how we all felt at your stage so don't worry. It's normal to be concerned about telling work etc. but it will all be fine.

I'm feeling a little better today. Quite shocking how ill McDonald's food made me. Tmi but none of it had digested even though I wasn't sick until about 3 hours later. I shall be giving their food a wide birth from now on until morning sickness has passed

Morning all! Had a crazy week at work hence the absence from the board. Sorry to all who are getting sicker Sad
Almost 8 weeks and I think I am feeling better less tired and sicky... Which of course makes me worry something is wrong!

Morwenna1 · 22/01/2016 15:25

Oh Runner - sorry to hear you're still feeling rubbish Sad Avoid Maccy D's!

Congratulations Leonie! Nice to see another familiar name on the board Smile Welcome to the crazy world of pregnancy! We've not started looking at pregnancy stuff yet really (although I had a wander around Mothercare the other day and overwhelmed myself with everything) We're going to wait till the scan...whenever that will be! Will know on Wednesday this week.

Shelb Good on you getting the salad in! I'm craving my stodgy cakes big time.

The saga of the flu jab continues....I'll try to keep this concise (sorry for repetition from previous posts!)

  1. For those who don't know, I was advised by local nurse and head nurse at GP not to have it before 12 weeks as "the guidelines have changed". So I haven't had it yet.
  2. Came on here and discovered that most if not all have had it.
  3. Rang midwife, and also local hospital. Advice was not to have it (based on personal opinion as they seemed clueless about guidelines altering).
  4. Been keeping an eye on the website to see if the guidelines have altered. Nothing has changed in the 5 weeks since I was told not to have it.
  5. Rang NHS England this morning to find out the score. Told me the latest guidelines were on website. Told me to go back to GP and ask where they'd received their advice from.
  6. Head Nurse at GP told colleague on the phone to me, that no, the guidelines haven't altered (wtf?!) The nurse who was in my appointment will be calling me back on Tuesday to discuss.
  7. Not content to leave it there until Tuesday, I've discovered the Green Book (available via gov.uk) chapter 19 Influenza that was last updated in August 2015 - this is what GP's refer to when administering the vaccine. This is the latest guidance:

"A review of studies on the safety of influenza vaccine in pregnancy concluded that inactivated influenza vaccine can be safely and effectively administered during any trimester of pregnancy and that no study to date has demonstrated an increased risk of either maternal complications or adverse foetal outcomes associated with inactivated influenza vaccine (Tamma et al., 2009)"

Now completely and utterly confused as to what I should do. It's unclear at this stage whether I've been lied to about the guidelines (presumably in an effort to reassure me that I'm doing the right thing). Watch this space ladies, I shall keep you updated. We shouldn't have to deal with conflicting advice! Angry

DrWhy · 22/01/2016 15:56

Runner on a non-pregnancy subject my parents got a charity to come and do most of the clear out of my nan's flat when she moved into care. I can't remember now who it was but basically in return for taking good items of furniture to sell in their charity shop they will remove the rest I think. You'd obviously still need to deal with personal, valuable and sentimental items but that might make it a little easier to face?

I'm still feeling disturbingly fine Confused I hope I'm just one of the lucky ones and I guess it is still early but I hope we have a sticky little alien. DH has decided that it's an alien.... Hmm...

DrWhy · 22/01/2016 15:59

Morwenna that's appalling, you shouldn't have to deal with that. Once they sort themselves out I hope that you get an apology and explanation from the nurses and GP. I'd be tempted to write to the practice manager and ask how they intend to ensure correct advice is given in future but I guess you will have to deal with the practice throughout.
I can't believe how hopelessly variable and conflicting the info is.

Lanadel · 22/01/2016 16:00

Mor my GP didn't mention anything about the flu jab the other day and I didn't ask as every time I got it I seemed to end up with a chest infection or really bad colds so I don't know if I'll even bother BUT what I have just thought about because your post rang a bell, I had mumps when I was 15 so don't know if I will get an MMR jab. The doc said he did have to mention my mumps in my letter to the midwife but not whether I would need to be immunised again... Sorry I've totally taken over your point but others might be thinking the same too or haven't thought about it... X

Morwenna1 · 22/01/2016 16:24

Lana Don't worry about taking over my point at all - it's good if it throws up something else! I was checked before my very 1st meeting with the GP, and all my jabs were up to date.

We'll see what they say on Tuesday Dr. They obviously didn't bank on me making my own investigations, and if I find out that I've been lied to (whether with good intentions or not) I'll be putting in a formal complaint. The other thing I'll be asking to get altered are my notes on the system. I was told that they said 'Declined flu jab'. Too incensed at the time to think about it, but I'm going to get that altered to reflect I declined based on their advice!

Symptoms do come and go (well for me they do!) so as difficult as it is, try not to worry. Not sure about the alien reference!! Grin

Lanadel · 22/01/2016 16:35

Mor obvs they 'never got the memo' of the update and it's pretty poor that you had to go research this yourself rather than anyone from your surgery using their initiative! It does make you wonder doesn't it, especially as there the flu is going about atm. I am sure the radio in my local area were saying there are people whom have been hospitalised with serious implications with it so I can understand why you are anxious to get the right vaccines and information. X

sophied1983 · 22/01/2016 19:41

Saw my little jelly-bean today. Too exciting! Heart going at 124bpm. She gave a due date more in line with what I thought it should be. Makes it so much more real.

Pinklily1 · 22/01/2016 20:16

Hi ladies

The flu stuff is so confusing. With the MMR, I've had that and then it's something we have to decide if baby wants, is that right?

Sophie - what did the scan put you as? We were pretty much the same date wise before I think (I am 8 weeks today, EDT 2 September).

Lanadel · 22/01/2016 20:33

Pink the MMR jab was linked to autism in a 'study' published in 1998 I think but I checked online last night and apparently that doctor has been discredited and struck off and apparently there is no link with autism. I personally would get my baby vaccinated as there are so many horrible illnesses and diseases coming back again due to people saying no.
Sophie did your scan date tie in with the date of your last period? I keep meaning to ask everyone who's had a scan x

sophied1983 · 22/01/2016 20:40

The scan actually put me much closer to what I thought I was, accounting for long cycles etc.

So she put me at 6+5 whereas doc would say I am 8+1 based on last AF.

Revised due date is 11th Sept :)

Lanadel · 22/01/2016 21:04

I see. My AF was 16/12 but my first positive OPK was 27/12 so I would say I am only about 3 weeks rather than 5 weeks. It just this month just seems to be dragging in doesn't it. Can't waiting til Sept/Oct though and we'll all have our little bundles of hot Grin X

Lanadel · 22/01/2016 21:31

Bundles of joy!!

Pinklily1 · 22/01/2016 21:54

Sophie, does the 6 weeks tie in with a positive OPK then?

sophied1983 · 22/01/2016 22:04

Yeah, which I got on Sat 19th Dec so works out spot on?!

shelbTa · 22/01/2016 22:43

In bed with nausea on a Friday night! Oh how times have changed!

X

Runner05 · 23/01/2016 09:06

Morning ladies, how are you today?

Mor this whole flu jab thing is crazy. I think I'm just going to get mine done as it sounds like the person who told you not to have it done was talking out their bottom!

dr thanks for the suggestion. We got a clearance company to sort out my grandparents house when they died but my mums flat is furnished with fairly new furniture and I'd prefer to get her a little bit of spending money if I can.

Sophie that's lovely about seeing your baby for the first time. I can't wait to have my scan Smile

Shelb I hope you're feeling better now. Nausea sucks.

Well, I was a right grumpy cow last night. Complaining about everyone making too much noise and getting upset because maternity clothes are expensive but I now pretty much hate wearing anything.
I'm so tired and nauseous all the time that it's really wearing me down. I'm just hoping that it passes soon. Fingers crossed that as the sickness rocked up so early it will also leave early!

Anyway, on a brighter note. My baby is 9 weeks today and about the size of a pecan. He or she is now officially a foetus with the start of all his organs in place and working. He just needs to grow now Grin I swear I already have a bump! My sister looked 6 months at 3 moths with both of hers so I'm most likely screwed Hmm

hgleslie89 · 23/01/2016 09:23

Morning everyone! To celebrate reaching tri 2 (can't believe I'm 13 weeks today!) I'm off to look at maternity bras and clothes. Might have to take a look at baby clothes too. Been putting it off so far as I didn't want to jinx anything. We've decided not to find out if it's a boy or a girl, so I suspect I'll get very angry at the lack of gender neutral clothes.

Runner05 · 23/01/2016 10:41

Congrats Leslie enjoy!

I'm definitely finding out the sex, I'm too much of a control freak not to. Although, even if it's a girl my baby will probably have quite a lot of Star Wars themed clothes lol
