Grrrr...just went to M&S, as I noticed in the summer (when I wasn't pg) that they had started doing maternity clothes. Well apparently now I am with child they have stopped doing it!! Typical. Thanks for the funmum.com link seansgirl, looks quite cool!

Wow there's loads of pink bumps on here! I'm sure mine is blue. I was so sick with dd all the way through and I couldn't eat, kept fainting and had to go on medication. It was a delightful pregnancy. However this one has been fine, I was being sick, but just in the mornings and now it has gone. Therefore I am convinced of blueness of bump!! I know you are supposed to be happy as long as you have a healthy baby, but I so desperately want another girl! Oh well I already have one little princess, I guess a little prince might be kinda fun!!

Mmm Marylou pelvic floor...must start doing something about mine. Keep nearly weeing myself everytime I cough or sneeze!! Maybe TMI!!

Beav123 · 24/01/2007 23:08

thanks all for reassurance re baby size - guess its a waiting game like every aspect of pregnancy. rubbish if you are impatient like me... I think I've been so stressed (new busy job, mid house-buying, DH on business etc etc) that have almost been blaming self for small baby - ie stress has stopped it growing.

on bright side, got offered first seat on tube today - could have jumped for joy but that wouldn't have seemed very deserving of the seat. suggest wearing two layers under a wrap dress if you are small of bump but still want nice men to give you their seats!

maternity clothes: was quite looking forward to the new retail opportunities but bit disappointing so far - also heard M&S did them but no more?! bad news. Have party to go to on Friday and will have to wear sack-like smock thing from Top shop...

notsolilKel · 25/01/2007 08:59

MLou you might want to look into getting a doula instead of an indep m/w - look at doula.uk. I was going down the same route till I decided on c-section. Doulas are just much cheaper...nothing against imw if you can afford one

stress can def do funny things to you, esp when pg. With DS (just last year, ahem ) I felt absolutely rotten the whole way through my pg. This time round I've not got the super-stressful city job and it's so, so much better. Do whatever you can to relax each day!!

as for my pelvic floor, well, if anyone's seen it running around lately, tell it I miss it dearly and want it to come home!! (DS birth ruined me!)

Seansgirl · 25/01/2007 10:01

Tee Hee Lilkel re pelvic floor - if someone returns yours ask it if its seen mine its been AWOL for nearly four years.

Sorry, don't have anything serious to say today as fed up with DH!!

Seansgirl · 25/01/2007 10:06

Sorry no, I do have something serious - Mytwocents I do have hayfever May-July and I'm affected by the tree pollen I could be wrong but I think you cant take regular hayfever drugs. If anyone knows different I'd be glad to know as will be suffering big time by June!!

justbeme · 25/01/2007 10:30

Hi Everyone - Just popping in to intro myself - Am due 29/6 - but originally posted on July thread as my DD was 14 days late! So hope you dont mind but I keep reading all your posts as some of it is quite relevant to me!!
On the maternity clothes issue - I went into my Walmart Asda to ask about theirs and was told that Asda has stopped selling maternity clothes as well - !! Looks like we'll all be forced to spend a fortune on "posh shops" or else buy off ebay!!
Take Care!

marylou23 · 25/01/2007 12:33

HI Justbeme and welcome!
Lilkel, will definitely look into doulas - haven't really looked at prices yet so I'll probably go white when I do and run back to Chelsea and Westminster! Talking of money, I think I've just entered the shopping phase of pregnancy (not sure this one's in the books, but it's as strong as the ms phase as far as I'm concerned...). So far this week have managed to spend two full days avoiding work by flicking around websites selling everything from cots to nipple pads. Haven't spent any money (yet) - too busy creating 'wish lists', but my wish lists add up to a small fortune. Will this stage pass? If I can keep my credit card in my wallet will I look back in a few weeks with a wry smile, or is this just the beginning of a lifetime of debt?! Actually, I think it might just be diversionary activity - have several pressing deadlines so, obviously, am doing everything I can to avoid them . But if things get worse, I may have to set up baby-stuff-shopping-anonymous. Repeat after me: the baby does not need a moses basket AND a panda rocking crib. It just doesn't.

Daisybump · 25/01/2007 13:57

When I asked in m&s re clothes, I was told it would be re-launched at the end of February as part of their 'up-market' range, if you can hold on that long. Try H&M (although they don't do short arse leg lengths) or Dorothy Perkins if you don't want to spend too much money. Only criticism of Dorothy Perkins....all their tops have 3/4 length sleeves!!? Do your arms shrink when you become pregnant? or is it some kind of optical illusion...if you flash a bit of wrist no-one will notice the medicine ball your're toting around in front I got some stuff in Next sale, but some of their tops are a bit on the short side...maybe ok if you have a nice and tidy designer bump, but not for a sprawling, wobbling effort like mine !!

hollyandalice · 25/01/2007 13:59

lol Marylou, yes unfortunately this is the start of a lifetime of debt!! I may have to be your first member of baby-shopping-anonymous, I love shopping for baby things, it's so much fun. Alas this time I cannot justify buying anything as I already have a car seat, moses basket etc. It's no fun

Welcome justbeme, this is a very friendly thread, everyone is v supportive.

Just took dd to the park and I think my hands are gonna fall off! It's so cold out there. Maybe I'll just hibernate and wake up in Spring!

Seansgirl · 25/01/2007 16:53

Marylou, yes be prepared to spend more money on your little one that you do on yourself! I spent my entire time shopping on maternity leave with DD, which was about 10 weeks - as went on leave as early as poss as knew was going to be made redundant!
My DD at nearly 4 still now has more outfits and shoes than I own..... after a while I realised how much stuff she had when putting away unworn things! I think 6 months to 2 years is worst stage for that and since then I have tried to be sensible....... not sure DH or my Mum would agree!

You end up buying so much stuff, I won't say don't as I'm sure like the rest of us you will buy just as much and then look back and think "but I only used that once/for 4 weeks/2 months," but you'll have fun doing it

Am very as I enjoyed that part of pregnancy (the shopping and the maternity) you have all that shopping to do and you can swan around like a lady of leisure napping when you like...its great but only to be experienced once!!

Have decided to replace a couple of things which I happend to mention in the presence in the presence of my father, my brother and a friend who is a father and they all looked in horror and said words like ... " Any excuse, to shop, don't do it, you know it'll only get puked on and stained just like the last one .... and tut tut, have to have a word with that husband of yours..."

notsolilKel · 25/01/2007 17:58

welcome Justbe!

hayfever - dunno if it's safe in pg or not but I got huge relief from Nelson's tablets. They're homeopathic. If you have a homeopathic type chemist, they should know of them. Inhaling lots of steam (head over a bowl w/ towel covering both you & bowl) may also help...

LOL at "shopping phase" of pg. I think it hits around 20 weeks and only abates when fatigue sets in near the birth!! I re-wrote my wish list last night. Laundry baskets made it on there some how. GAH. How did that happen? And now Cath Kidston doesn't sell them online anymore. Help! Where am I going to find new laundry baskets???

annobal · 25/01/2007 18:47

Just a quick post for those of you looking for "reasonably priced" maternity clothes. Have a look online at Vertbaudet and especially Pumpkin Patch for sales bargains - I got 2 pairs of jeans for £30 as everything is half price.

sputnik · 25/01/2007 18:51

Posting from MIL's house, as my modem got struck by lightning yesterday, which seems to happen about 4 or 5 times a year, and may not get it sorted til next week. Horrible weather here, had a bit of snow too.
Before being disconnected I was happily virtual shopping too, can't put the mat clothes off much longer. Also wondering what I can justify for this baby too, as there's loads of sales online and it's quite tempting, but on the other hand I'm a bit skint.
You lot have had me singing "Tainted Love" in the car may have to do a bit of downloading here too, when I back online.

Seansgirl · 25/01/2007 19:13

Lilkel, Laundry basket??? (in curious wonder?) what else is on your wish list? anything else you want to share?

notsolilKel · 25/01/2007 19:55

Hiya, re the list, well, some funny things which become important when you're doing it all a second time round (apart from new laundry baskets!): nice, silk(y) dark coloured pj's to aid me in turning over in bed when recuperating after the birth and bleeding like heck...matching slippers , a set of hooks for our coats in the hallway (things are too chaotic with our coats, shoes, plus DS, plus another...), a new bouncy chair (I hate the one DS used), a new car seat (selling ours with pram as travel system), and oh yes, a new clothes pin holder . And a cabinet for storing our medicines in the bathroom now that DS is mobile. And a new car. GAHHHHHHHH

Basically anything which makes your life easier is worth buying now, IMHO. For example, we got a tumble dryer (Sainsbury's online, great deal!!) before DS came along. TG for that - dunno how in the world I'd dry all the stuff he goes through. IF you go that route, be prepared to buy everything a size bigger than you need due to shrinkage.

Jojo Maman Bebe also has some decent maternity wear. And adorable baby stuff - sorry --!!!

sputnik · 25/01/2007 20:13

Lilkel, if you're hunting for silk pj's I know a good US site for silk with decent prices here , they deliver anywhere. Got a kimono from them last time round.

bumperlicious · 26/01/2007 09:22

Hi all
Sorry I haven't posting on here for ages. Been nursing my woes on the antenatal depression thread, and didn't want to constantly seem like a whinger!
Feeling ok at the moment though. Am using annual leave to take a few 4 day weeks which is helping as I am just soooo tired all the time, partly because I am not sleeping very well, and partly because I am just knackered in general!
All seems to be ok otherwise. Got 20 week scan next week, bit nervous about it. Not really much else to say about being pg, apart from expanding exponentially at the moment. Anyone else think maternity wear should be subsidised?
I think the hardest thing for me at the moment is the lack of a big deal my pregnancy is to my friends. Most of them don't have kids, and it's just a drop in the ocean to them, especially the men, but they don't realise what a HUGE scary thing it is for me, and would rather not hear me go on about it! Bit worried they will all abandon me when the baby comes along! Look, there I go whinging and worrying again! Think happy thoughts, think happy thoughts!

notsolilKel · 26/01/2007 09:36

...how can you be down with a great name like Bumperlicious?? In all seriousness I suffered with PreND with DS just a year ago and I know exactly how you feel. I cut back my working hours to 60% of full time and took a small dose of Prozac, which helped me turn a corner. The best thing though was meeting new 'mum' friends through antenatal & postnatal classes, because nobody at my old City job wanted to know about the pg either...do you have classes set up yet? Doesn't have to be NCT, your GP prob knows of free local ones and those are great too! chin up & ((hugs))

hollyandalice · 26/01/2007 09:53

Hi bumperlicious! Don't worry about your friends, I'm sure they are excited for you, they just don't know how to show it. When your small person comes along I'm sure they will shower you with gifts and love! I was in the same position as you, quite young (I'm 25 now, but was 23 when I had my dd) and was the first of my group of friends to have a baby. Your priorities will change when your baby is born, every moment with him/her is precious and I'm sure your friends will want to share in your joy!! I do look at my friends now, going out and having a good time, sometimes I do get jealous. Then I think that I've got something much better than going out, I've got a lovely daughter and a wonderful partner and if anything they should be feeling jealous of me!!!

Don't worry about whinging, that's what MN is for! We have the same EDD and my scan is next week too, on the 30th, good luck with yours, I'm sure everything will be fine! Seeing your baby on the screen will make you feel 100 times better xxx

hollyandalice · 26/01/2007 10:47

Sorry to go off on a tangent here, but aren't the new Fireman Sams on cbeebies rubbish?

marylou23 · 26/01/2007 10:52

Hi Bumperlicious, so sorry to hear you've been feeling down. I do think the hormones probably have a big impact on feelings - I've been trying for ages to get pregnant and am absolutely over the moon about it, but that hasn't stopped me getting really low at points - I've become convinced for days at a time that friends/family are conspiring against me, that DH isn't ready for fatherhood, that our life as we know it is over... and then a couple of days later I'm like 'what was that all about?!' One thing that has helped is iron - I realised beginning of this week that I wasn't just pale anymore, I was absolutely white - my mother suggested something called Spatone (soluble iron) and within a couple of days I was feeling a million times better. So I think it's always worth looking at food/vitamins/sleep - weird to think they can affect your mood, but they really can.
Anyway, good to have you back.
On another note, think I'm having a growth spurt this week - things I was getting into last week are suddenly too small, but don't want to start buying maternity wear if I'm going to grow out of them in another two weeks... Can't seem to get excited about maternity wear for some reason (usually love any excuse to shop) - maybe because I know it's for such a short period...?

babymonster · 26/01/2007 10:53

Hi all, not posted for a long time but been keeping upto date with everyones messages.

Had 20 week scan on Monday and everything seems perfect, little one didn't want to behave though and i had to go in 3 times before it was in a decent position for measuring, spent most of its time laying on is belly with it's hands covering it's face, think it was enjoying a game of peek a boo.

Heard heartbeat on Thursday and sounds like a little train, was amazing.

Got blood results back and found out i'm rhesus negative which means i have to have a special anti d injection at 28 weeks and after the birth if baby is rhesus positive. Anyone else need this doing? I have some information which sounds quite scary if it wasn't picked up but everything should be ok.

Seem to be more scared of this injection than labour which is weird but getting sky tv installed today so after watching a few birthing programs i'm sure all that will change.

hertsnessex · 26/01/2007 11:52
