Hiya - LOL at the Duran Duran records Marylou. Can I join you? Shall we start wearing lots of black eyeliner as well?

Had rubbish day after all - dS still with fever and turns into whimpering mess when Calpol wears off. Lesson to all new mums* buy some Calpol now. You'll need it!!!

I was unfortunate enough to have StrepB when DS was born. He went into respiratory arrest upon birth and was taken away in the midst of sirens and a roomful of doctors - shocked us completely as I was supposed to be "normal healthy preganancy." After 5 days in Special Care he was ok but it was the shock of a lifetime. If I could do it over again, I'd be tested for Strep B as I went into labour and don't take NO for an answer!! It's a very serious thing for a baby, fatal even. This time round I'm doing c-section with tests beforehand and antibiotics anyway just in case. You just never want to see your baby stop breathing like that ever again...

(thanks for listening, I know it's rare, but it happened to me...)

Twiga · 22/01/2007 20:48

Hi, sorry to hear so many have been feeling rotton but also glad to hear things starting to turn around for most.

welcome to Beav123 and snacky. Snacky, I've got spots too, not bad but irritating as was hoping the blooming stage wasn't far off.

Notsolikel, like both those names - Charlotte is one of girls names we're managing to agree on at the mo. Only have two worked out for each gender so far and if last time is anything to go by not likely to make much more progress.

Babyshow is great for bargains - we went to the one in Glasgow when expecting dd and one of the stands had up to 20% off the range of Mamas & Papas nursery bedding etc we'd been looking at, so we did really well. Also great for seeing some of the latest things on the market, new inventions, mat clothes etc - fashion shows are good fun.

18+1 and measuring 8 sheets loo roll...

TALLULAHBELLE · 22/01/2007 22:54

Hi all,
Not been in a while so have lot of catching up to do. Won't post properly til have read full thread but just wanted to say hi for now.

westcoaster · 23/01/2007 10:44

Hi - well big sighs of relief - amnio all OK. Took call from mw in the car and then cried all the way home - much to the alarm of other motorists! As a positive karma thing, just want to say how fantastic the antenatal clinic at Taunton has been throughout all of this - couldn't have handled a difficult time for us any better. My community mw is so rubbish I think I'm going to ask if I can do all my antenatal stuff at the hosp instead.

Sputnik - any news for you? Hope all is OK.

Nice to 'meet' you Snacky - I had the opposite last time round - pg got rid of my spots and then they came back with a vengeance afterwards!

Approve highly of adolescent dancing in bedroom idea - am off to paint white stripe across my nose and pull on maternity knickerbockers & frilly white shirt. Adam Ant - phoar!

hollyandalice · 23/01/2007 10:54

Hi all, back from Dubai! Had a lovely time, but was a long way to fly for 4 days!! Rode a camel and everything, not sure if I should have, but will prob never get the chance again and you can't stop living because you are pg! Missed dd loads and kept bursting into tears everytime I saw something I thought she'd like. Maybe that was just the pg hormones working overtime.

Snacky also have loads of spots, it's hellish. Also had loads with dd and they didn't go til well after she was born!! Sorry!
Kiwi the nipple discharge is normal, but quite annoying. It will change colour to a orangey yellow (colostrum) and stains like anything, that's when breast pads or an old bra come in handy!

Measured bump with loo roll and am 8 sheets (19 weeks). Glad dp isn't here, he already thinks I'm a loony!!

Is anyone else having horrible dreams? I keep dreaming dd has died! It's horrible and they are so vivid! I think this is normal, due to hormones, but it's not nice.

hollyandalice · 23/01/2007 10:55

Good news on amnio westcoaster .

marylou23 · 23/01/2007 11:04

Hi! Hollyandalice, totally with you on the dreams. Had one in which DH and I were framed for murder and on the run (too much watching Prison Break perhaps?) and another in which he announced casually that he was leaving me for a next door neighbour...
Westcoaster, great news - must be a huge relief.
Oh, and LOL at white stripe across face. Am now frantically trying to dig out Adam Ant records - all together now: Prince Charming, Prince Charming...
ps, have discovered retail therapy as way to cheer self up. Haven't actually bought anything yet, but have finally allowed myself to start searching websites for prams, cots, toys... Had told myself I'd wait until at least Feb, but now I've started I suspect there won't be much stopping me. Have just warned DH that credit card is likely to get a hammering - something tells me that our baby is going to have expensive tastes (I'm already blaming my green and blacks chocolate addiction on bump...)

notsolilKel · 23/01/2007 14:59

Hiya - Adam Ant? Now there's a true confession

Westcoaster congrats and congrats again, great news

Nightmares - totally have them. Especially ones about DH leaving me for some stupid other woman. So real, so irritating...

Tips for first timers: black. Black nursing bras, black knickers, black towels for hospital, black track bottoms for recovery, black pjs. Your body is going to discharge lots of blood and other liquids which are embarrassingly evident... (or navy blue).

Ta ta for now - off to leaf dreamily through catalogues - Siena or Charlotte? Siena or Charlotte? Or Jasmine? Gahhhhh

auntymandy · 23/01/2007 20:32

Think dreams and pregnancy go hand in hand. I have had wierd ones in the past! Like having to give birth in my old school and not been able to find the right room. Or the worse one was having the baby early so it was wrapped in cling film but still atached to me and i had to carry it on the outside till it was ready!!! Wierd!!!
Last night I went through ll the houses on Ramsay street sorting out who lived there now and who had lived there in the past!!!!

Beav123 · 23/01/2007 23:05

Hi all again and thanks for the welcomes. Glad to hear your amnio went well westcoaster. Pregnancy is a rollercoaster enough without something as big as that to worry about. I just had my 20 week scan last Thurs and they said the baby's head is on the smallest side of the normal range. They want to scan again to see if its growing properly but we have to wait 6 weeks for that. Midwife says worst scenario (and unlikely) is baby is not getting enough from the placenta and will have to be delivered early. Been trying not to worry but have had v stressful day, DH away on business and suddenly feeling v vulnerable. Hoping one of you will know something about this kind of thing and can help put my mind at rest....

annobal · 24/01/2007 09:08

LOL - looks like it is all coming out now - Duran Duran, Adam Ant and Ramsay Street! I guess this is about the time to say that I have had to stop watching Neigbours as it kept making me cry (especially when Susan told Carl to "Come home!"). So now I just content myself listening to Barry Manilow and The Carpenters (with DS1 and DS2 it was classical music - God Knows what this one is going to turn out like ).

Beav - sorry I'm certainly no expert as mine have both been on the large side and come early. However scans are notoriously unreliable in terms of scans. They do also present you with a worst case scenario so try not to focus on that.

Snow in London this morning - it's really pretty and very cold!! [shivering emoticon] Will be trying to avoid taking Ds' out in it as we all have colds.

westcoaster · 24/01/2007 10:21

Beav123 - my dd was small and I was induced at 38 wks having had the life scared out of me by my mw. She was absolutely fine and has been 90%ile since she hit 3 months old (she's now a huge 5yr old). Both my mum and my gran has small babies - I was only 4lbs and was overdue - so it might be worth checking with your family, if you can. Remember, the measurement they take is effectively a 'snapshot' of your baby's size at any given time and doesn't predict how it will grow overall. The fact that they're relaxed enough to wait 6 wks is probably a good sign. As I've found over the past week or two, you're definitely not alone when you're on MN! Remember too that neat little babies tend to mean less stitches and piles..which can only be a good thing. Keep us posted and don't hesitate to speak to your mw is you're worried - they can always rescan you in a couple of weeks and most good mw's can tell a lot just from examining your bump. Hang in there

sputnik · 24/01/2007 10:47

Good news Westcoaster, I still have to wait 2 weeks or so for full results but they did say they'd tell me sooner if anything was wrong.

LOL at the stripes across the nose and Duran Duran, still I would rather confess to that than Barry Manilow!!!! Pull yourself together

Been having vivid dreams for a while now, mostly rather, ahem, enjoyable ones. But last time I remember dreaming I had given birth to kittens, also some really horrific ones about neglecting the baby and nearly killing it. I am hoping I have enough confidence in my mothering abilities this time round to avoid those.

Beav, try not to worry too much, not easy I know, but all babies are different and I reckon they grow in spurts, at least my bump seems to

hollyandalice · 24/01/2007 11:32

vv about the snow in London, can you please send some down here?

lol at crying at neighbours!! I'm pretty much at that point too, the smallest thing sets me off. Talking of neighbours, has anyone noticed that steph's poor baby has been wearing the same scabby white towelling sleepsuit since he was born? Or is that just me and my obsessive neighbours watching?!

Don't worry beav, my dd was small at scan, then she decided it was time to grow at some sort of record pace! She was 8 11 when she was born! I'm sure MWs just like to scare you sometimes!

marylou23 · 24/01/2007 11:54

I agree - my sister's children were all huge when they were born but I remember at the 20 week scan on her second that he was a bit 'out of kilter' - some measurements off the chart because they were big, some off the chart because they were small - when he was born he was completely fine (and is now big bruiser!!). I guess the charts are all based on averages, and no baby is exactly average, so fingers crossed there's nothing at all to worry about (and Westcoaster, good point about the stitches. Yikes. Personally am still in slight denial about the birth business...)
I don't get my 20 week scan until the end of my 20th week (ie a week on Friday), so am going to have to be patient. Am getting lots of movement, though, which I love - I actually saw my tummy move at one point yesterday!
Better back to my Duran Duran records... (I have no shame)

sleepychunky · 24/01/2007 12:06

Hi everyone just wanted to catch up with everything. Really jealous at all of you who've already had your 20week scans. I'm 20+3 today but don't have my scan until next Friday as our hospital does 21 weeks scans. Really looking forward to it now. Have been using the doppler a couple of times a week so know that heartbeat is there, just a question now of seeing how big baby is and that everything is OK.

Still commuting to work in London and am at the stage where people are looking at me in my unbuttoned coat (I can only do up the first 3 buttons down my front ) and trying to decide if I'm pregnant or just fat. Haven't needed to play the "I'm pregnant so give me a seat" card yet, but the way things are going on my line it won't be long.

I'm going to Brighton at the weekend with DH as we have some friends coming to stay, and am going to take the opportunity to make my first visit to Mothercare. Not actually going to buy anything but want to have a look round. I desperately need some maternity bras and some more clothes but had to wait until payday (tomorrow!).

Still haven't felt movement (don't think so anyway) but not too worried and hope to see a wriggly baby next week!

Take care everyone

SC

mytwocents · 24/01/2007 12:09

Very jealous re movement, nothing so far only bad pain from sneezing.........
for you west coaster and glad your pals again daisy, welcome to snacky and beav!

Ok moan alert- I still have acold!! Been since october where every night I wake up with blocked nose aching sinuses and then have a sneezing fit ( I'm really popular in my yoga class as seem to sneeze during the entire relaxation!!) Finally got my gp to perscribe some antibiotics, got to go back in 5 days to get antihistamines.... Does any one else get hayfever and know what is ok to take when pg? I've done some research but it seems testing has been limited..??!! So dp came home with a 'present' yest, got v exited until he produced one of those plastic pill reminder boxes... burst into tears then cried cause i felt so ungrateful!!
Not cried at soap but keep weeping at the news, thing I'll download some Adam ant, sure to cheer me up.......confessing another cheesy music love-makes you laugh , then makes you cry- Dolly Parton, love 'er
Off to find some loo roll, amazed how just posting makes me feel better, thanks xx

hollyandalice · 24/01/2007 12:24

Does anyone know of any shops that do maternity trousers in extra long lengths? Next do, but I don't like any of them. Also am boycotting Next as they've stopped doing maternity clothes in store!! How rude! Shops seem to think that because you are pg that you must also be short!

Daisybump · 24/01/2007 13:31

Been off for two days and feel like it's been a week...gosh its been busy.

Firstly, big congrats to Westcoaster, glad all is OK...you can relax now till the impendoing labour day arrives!!

Hello to Beav123 and Snacky.....nice, but a little bit crazy, that's us. My skin has improved but is bordering on the too dry where it is usually quite greasy. What I do get, though, is the occasional pimple to rival my teenage nephew..yikes!!

hollyandalice, glad you had a nice holiday...on the subject of trousers, I'm on the short arse side of the fence, and I find I can't get any trousers except Next, and I agree on the styles, but what can you do! I got some under-bump jeans from them, but they fall down so I need a belt which then digs in, then baby kicks off and so it goes. Jojo-mamanbebe do some trousers in extra-long length which is 33in I think, and vertbaudet have them at 82cm, whatever that is in real money?

LOL at all the music, was a Duranie myself, and a definate child of the eighties....so it's big hair, big shoulder pads and a mix of Duran and Spandau, with a bit of Kajagoogoo thrown in for good measure (now I really am showing my age!!)

And finally......had my scan this morning . Everything fine and dandy and no obvious markers for any sort of abnormality, so I can relax now. Also, sonographer pretty sure it's a pink one. Wey hey . My sisters have had boys all the way so will be dead jealous...hee hee.
Took DS who laughed and then cried and then became stroppy...think the realisation of baby has finally sunk in and what it'll all mean for him, bless his wee heart.

Seansgirl · 24/01/2007 15:33

Hi everyone,

Hello and welcome Beav, Snacky,......and anyone else I have missed!

Great news westcoaster !!

Beav, think as everyone else says try not to worry all babies are different and as they don't want to see you for another 6 weeks shows that they are pretty relaxed... sure that by next time your little one will have had a growth spurt.

HollyandAlice - extra long lengths - my pet annoyance with Next - you can get 16 &18 XL in regular clothes but apparently very tall ladies don't get pregnant! It is soooo annoying. Funmum.com do some XL lengths I have a pair of jeans I am waring from them now, Im pretty pleased with them. Also try longtallsally.co.uk if you type maternity in search they have a pair of jeans and a pair of trouseurs. Also I noticed some Mothercare styles come in 33". Both Blooming Marvellous and Jojomamanbebe do some styles in XL. Anyone know of any others I'd be please to hear too!!

Have beeen feeling a bit anxious past few days as I thought I felt movement last week but since friday have felt pretty much nothing and was getting a bit paranoid. Went to see MW today and everything fine, little heartbeat just spot on! Phew! I dont know why I worry about the movement I didnt feel DD move until 22-23 weeks and Im only 18 weeks this friday!

Hoorah for the 80's and the Duranies I say, my complexion matches it well I have roseacea (sp), basically red blothcy checks anyway but in prg seems to be magnified so I look acne ridden. Nice! I need some serious music to cheer me up...I feel Flock of Seagulls and Visage coming on myself! Dig those swoopy haircuts and masses of black eyeliner....now where are those black suede pixie boots ?

notsolilKel · 24/01/2007 17:28

well we were considering Zoe or Siena for our girl's name, but now, I'm thinking I might call her RIO! (Her name is Rio....) oh dear

notsolilKel · 24/01/2007 17:31

Oh and Daisy congrats - also expecting pink here too - also with some jealous friends and relatives. I think literally every person I know who has given birth, apart from antenatal classmates, had a boy. Poor mate in Germany is due the same week as me and both of us have sons already - she's having another one...

(please forgive the idle talk of gender preferences, as of course a healthy bub is our main objective - just had to share!)

Daisybump · 24/01/2007 17:57

Just noticed Lilkel and hollyandalice have a member profile that you can read....how do I set that up? had a quick swizz around the sitemap, but couldn't find anything obvious???

Trying hard to resist the temptation to go and buy somethink pink and frilly...they have been known to get it wrong...but its just sooooo tempting

notsolilKel · 24/01/2007 18:18

Daisy for profile, try going to 'home' then 'my mumsnet' - you have to log in again I think but then you should get options to edit your (public) profile...

marylou23 · 24/01/2007 19:48

Rio. What a totally cool name. I love Coco, too - a friend of mine called her daughter that a few years ago. Tell me, was it was my Duran Duran moment that inspired you? It would make me so proud...
Just back from pregnancy pilates. Did you know that the pelvic floor muscle traverses the front, back and sides? No, neither did I.
On a less positive note, have been reading numerous threads today on how crap my chosen hospital is (Chelsea and Westminster). Joy. Am now exploring other options in South London, but is quite late to change, I think? Might consider the independent midwife route so that at least there's someone there who I trust (obviously trust DH but in different way. Not sure his medical knowledge is really up to scratch...)
