Trying to start a new thread before we run out of space, haven't done it before so hopefully it works

How awfully sad for Ellie. Just briefly caught up on thread 2. I just came straight to thread 3 without realising. Life can be so unfair sometimes!

Checking in. 5+1. Some twinges/cramping, but nothing major and likely gas. Again.

Have my first midwife appt on 3 Dec. Getting rather excited.

Lovely scan pic Peyia, congrats! I'm waiting till Jan to tell work, and waiting till Christmas to tell family. Only booked private scan on 20th Dec at 11+3 so that we can tell family over hols as it's such pressure to keep the secret and not drinking at parties, etc. Our nhs scan is on 5th Jan, which will be an extra bonus, and nice to familiarise ourselves with the local hospital.

We haven't told anyone at all yet. Weirdly, it seems easier to say nothing to family on phone than to keep lip zipped at work & with friends.

Quite a few people know now - our parents, my SIL, my two line managers and two friends of mine. I'm shit at keeping secrets - I'm amazed I haven't told absolutely everyone already to be honest!

I'm exhausted at the moment - just want to sleep all the time! And I keep getting heartburn, which isn't very pleasant.

I'm 8 + 2 today. I had my dating scan yesterday, all looks fine and the foetus is ok. Saw the heartbeat, which was a real relief. No photo, but it just looked like a blob to be honest. I thought I could see the head, but apparently that was the yolk sac! Then I had my booking appointment today with the midwife, so I feel like it's all starting. I had to pee in a pot and had about 7 blood samples taken for various tests too - felt pretty sick throughout so it was all a delight!

I've got a date for the 12 week scan just before Christmas - 22nd December, so fingers crossed all being well we'll be able to tell all the folks over Christmas.

It's been so sad to see the losses on the previous thread, and it has made me really aware of what can go wrong. Fingers crossed for everyone Flowers

I'm sitting with my legs up against the wall. Anyone else's legs getting really tight? I just feel like I need a good stretch all over

Report
YouAndMeAreGoingToFallOut · 25/11/2015 20:02

Funny you should say that Mel - one of my legs is really sore. I think I've somehow pulled a muscle in the thigh and it is killing. I almost put some Deep Heat on it but remembered just in time you shouldn't use it in pregnancy.

I have an ache in my lower back and not sure if I should be worried. I get the same pain during my period and also just generally in work. I spend 3 hours a day in the car and then sit down all day in work so I'm hoping that's it. Also have a bit of stomach pain but I think it's trapped wind. Ahhh not sure if I should be more worried??

Report
redstrawberries101 · 25/11/2015 20:37

Monitor it, small plain blonde and do have a stretch for your back. See if that helps. I think if you are sitting so many hours a day , try and stretch anyway.

I was told that if I don't manage exercise during preg then just to stretch daily as that will help too.

My goodness there has been a lot of chat today!

melvali and those asking about private scans, I had one on Saturday at exactly 8 weeks and it was wonderful and totally worth the £99 for me. We saw a heartbeat and little arms moving around. And to be told everything is how it should be was priceless to me. I'm saving £300 a month for my maternity leave so £100 is quite a lot to me but it was still worth it. And since I've had it done I've calmed down massively with the symptom spotting and knicker checking, I'm just more relaxed about it all. I know there is still some risk before 12 weeks but it's much reduced now.

Katy1987 where did you book your scan in Glasgow?

Report
redstrawberries101 · 25/11/2015 20:41

Thanks Sonia! I've just been discussing it with DH and he said he doesn't think it'll add much value right now but after my midwife appt we can see. I was thinking around that time anyway to be honest.

Talking of saving money - I have absolutely no idea how much kids cost. Anyone got any thoughts to share??

Report
smallplainblonde · 25/11/2015 20:54

Thanks mel, I think because I get the ache regularly I'm trying to tell myself its nothing to worry about. I will definitely try stretching more. I don't have much of an idea how much things will cost as its my first too. I'm a bit worried though as I don't think I'll be going back to my job. I'm out of the house for 12 hours a day Mon-fri and the work is stressful. I just can't see it working with a baby and to be honest I've been looking to get out for a while but something (new house, wedding to pay for) has always stopped me. I will be so pleased to leave but worried how we will cope financially.

Jo I've booked for the Nuffield hospital, gutted Ive paid all that when I could have got it cheaper but never mind. I will be saving a fortune on nights out lol. Anyone bought maternity clothes yet? I've actually lost a couple of lbs so don't think I will need them for a while but noticed that asda does basically everything you would need at good prices so was tempted to buy now but thought it would be bad luck. gx that sounds horrible I hope you feel better soon.
All these scans are very reassuring and so happy for everyone to see all these heartbeats in black and white. It's making me emotional Smile sonia that sounds really lovely, so great you got to see so much at 8 weeks.
Huge argument with DH tonight feeling sorry for myself. A long day at work followed by my evening job has literally drained all the life out of me.
Interesting that scans vary so much- I haven't found an early scan for much less than £99 down here. So ladies don't worry if you have paid a bit more, I think it varies by area.

Just inhaled a packet of dds Mini Cheddars - omg amazing!!

Gx91, I had terrible nausea on Sunday and Monday evenings, along with headache and backache, and I worried that it would continue for weeks. But then it wasn't anywhere near as bad yesterday and today. So perhaps this is a blip for you, and tomorrow you will feel better. Fingers crossed.

Wanting, good luck talking to the doctor tomorrow.

Congrats to everyone who's had scans! I would love to have an early one, but have resigned myself to waiting another few weeks.
