Crazycatlady they can't ask you to tell them before 15 weeks before the week you're due. Count from the Sunday before your due date 15 weeks back. They might have have guessed by the time youre 25 weeks obviously Grin xx

Kaytee1987 · 01/12/2015 08:38

Sticky I just noticed your message, keeping everything crossed for good news for you and that they just measured wrong xx

SoniaShoe · 01/12/2015 08:57

sticky I'm wishing you all the best for today and I'll be keeping everything crossed for you.

crazycatlady your handbook might be saying that is their preference, so they can start planning and do a risk assessment for your work station and fire alarms etc. (do you work in a high risk environment?). But legally you don't need to tell them before 15 weeks before your ewc. Although most workplaces its a benefit to tell them as soon as you feel confident (usually after 12 week scan) so you can get time off for appointments etc. I'm an HR manager so any maternity leave questions ask away.

jemimahpuddleduck · 01/12/2015 09:19

Sticky I'll be thinking of you today, I have my fingers crossed.
Sorry to hear your news Pulpi

Gx91 · 01/12/2015 09:26

Good luck for today sticky xx

gnat99 · 01/12/2015 09:31

Morning all, meant to post again last night but was just too shattered after work! Sat down on the sofa and didn't get up again until it was time to crawl to bed. Then I slept through my alarm this morning and was late for work. Great start to the day! My sinuses are blocked and I feel full of phlegm along with the nausea, and basically just feel vile.

9 weeks this Thursday and feel sick pretty much all of the time now. But as many others have sad, I find this quite comforting as it implies the hormones must be still there.

Mord, sorry about the diabetes shock, please don't beat yourself up about it, just concentrate on doing the best for your body and your baby.

Pulpi, really sorry to hear about your sad news. At least you had your DH to snuggle up to.

Woodsy, great news about your scan! You must be so relieved and happy.

Crazycat, I misread the info, and also thought it was 15wks! Then I read it again somewhere else and realised my mistake. Hope that's what you've done too, which gives you more time to decide when you would like to tell work. I'm planning to tell mine in January, when I'll be almost 14 weeks.

Cookies and Sticky*, good luck for scans today, will be thinking of you!

gnat99 · 01/12/2015 09:32

Oh, and Sonia, have you decided whether to book an extra scan or not? If you booked the normal dating/nuchal scan, it would cost about £100, you would definitely save that from not drinking at all those parties.

Mordirig · 01/12/2015 09:36

Sticky Really hoping it will be ok for you, fingers, legs, eyes and toes crossed x

Loki You poor thing, its horrible when it just comes from nowhere isn't it.
I hope it was a singular episode for you, I haven't been sick since my one off I'll nock on wood for both of us!

I'm picking up my Blood glucose test kit today and I managed to get a telephone apt with my GP and There should also be a prescription for 5milligrams of folic acid as well, so I'm feeling calmer about it.
I made myself a small bowl of porridge made with water for breakfast but without the milk, teaspoon of brown sugar and nuts, lets just say bland doesn't convey the underwhelming sensation it left on my taste buds Grin

Hope everyone has a calm and peaceful day x

gnat99 · 01/12/2015 09:43

Glad to hear you're feeling a bit better, Mordirig. Plain porridge is really not great, is it?! Why did you have to take out the nuts?

felinewonderful · 01/12/2015 09:48

Morning everyone, have people had their booking in appointments with midwife yet and got scan dates through? I am struggling to get a booking appointment and worried that my scan will be delayed as a result of this?

Hope everyone is ok, sorry to Mordirig for diagnosis. hope you are ok and sorry to pulp about the tragic news. Sticky, wishing you all the best for today xxx

Cheery1 · 01/12/2015 09:58

Mord - oh dear, plain porridge is a bit sad..could you use maple syrup or even something like Stevia (natural plant sugar) and they might be lower GI than sugar? Also agave syrup is low GI, it's expensive but you hardly need any…? Or (last porridge thought, promise) try soaking the oats overnight in water, no sugar yogurt and some grated apple, maybe some berries. Makes really tasty muesli. I used to run marathons (loooong ago) and had to follow a low GI diet which I think is helpful for diabetes….

Feline - I'm seeing my GP today to book appointment with midwife, so I have no dates yet. Can you do a phone appointment with your GP, that might speed up the process if they're booking for you?

Good luck today Sticky! xxx

gnat99 · 01/12/2015 10:08

Feline, scan dates have to be within certain date parameters, so I would have thought it should depend on your due date and not on your booking in appointment date. But everywhere is different! Good luck.

Beautician, how are you feeling today? Hope a little better than yesterday.

8+5

gnat99 · 01/12/2015 10:20

Forgot to say welcome, Kajamite! when are you due? We have a separate stats thread so we can keep track of each other's due dates etc. Feel free to add your details:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/antenatal_clubs/2510421-july-2016-stats

Mord and Cheery, to continue the porridge discussion, I sometimes add ground almonds to mine, adds a bit of sweetness as well as protein.

You can tell I am not too busy at work this morning, and desperately trying to distract myself from the nausea Wink

CultureSucksDownWords · 01/12/2015 10:21

Mord, sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Hopefully you'll be able to manage it. Another thought about porridge, if you like cinnamon it gives a nice flavour without any sugar.

Pulpi, so sorry about your shock news. I hope you're doing ok today.

Good luck to everyone with scans or appointments today.

Mordirig · 01/12/2015 10:31

gnat I guess I was being all martyr like over my first 'new' breakfast!

Love all the suggestions, cheery1 yes I think the Low GI diet is good for diabetics, thank you for the advice, and everyone else's tips, will definitely try them all (I'm desperate) I have some 0% fat Activia vanilla yoghurts that should work, will let you know tomorrow morning if its a success or not [happy]

Kaytee1987 · 01/12/2015 10:54

Feline, I have my booking in appointment on 15th December, booked a private scan for 22nd and then my nhs scan is 13th January.
6+2

gnat99 · 01/12/2015 10:58

Well maybe you had the right idea with the martyrdom, Mordirig - if you start off the week with bland plain porridge, then almost anything else will seem tastier by comparison! You have inspired me to start eating more porridge Smile

Beware of low/zero fat yoghurts, sometimes they have extra sugar. Always worth reading the label carefully.

Loki, hope you're feeling better today. I still haven't actually been sick, but I feel sick all the time. I agree, it's really great to have somewhere to vent about everything in private. DH is very supportive, but I probably shouldn't share every single fascinating/disgusting symptom with him!

Cheery1 · 01/12/2015 11:17

gnat and culture - almonds Nd cinnamon yum! That's my breakfast sorted for tomorrow. Tbh I need to be healthy, I've been eating so much and not running so already can't fit into my jeansXmas Blush

Off to GPs to book in for scan, always get so anxious with appointment! Silly really, not like she can tell me anything today.

Happy peaceful day ladies xx

Cheery1 · 01/12/2015 11:19

P.s. Kaytee - private scan booked for 19th so hopefully we'll have some lovely pics to share in time for Xmas Xmas Smile xx

Cheery1 · 01/12/2015 11:24

Last thing - just to say ladies, our July group is really keeping me sane. It is so wonderful sharing all our hopes and fears in this special but super anxious time. After mc earlier in the year, I think I'd be out of my mind without our daily updates. Thank you all xxx

Woodsy81 · 01/12/2015 12:19

I feel the same Cheery. Its so nice to be able to chat openly and honestly about our feelings throughout this time. xx

mossandfern · 01/12/2015 12:27

Hi everyone,

Checking in at last, I've been following the thread since the first few days but have been nervous about getting involved because I'm not too lucky with friends randomly stumbling across my forum activities and apart from DH it's totally top secret until I hear from work about whether or not my contract is getting renewed. I know it shouldn't make a difference but I'm scared that somehow it will influence their decision and then we'll be stuffed as I'm the main earner!

Still haven't heard but going to take the chance :) It's been really comforting following your chat, I'm 9+ 4 and due July 1st :) Looking forward to the journey with you all.

Hamsolo · 01/12/2015 13:05

Welcome to moss (and anyone else who's joined recently!). This is such a fast thread - I can't keep up.

I have been having plain porridge every day for weeks. It's all I can stomach at the moment! That's the one benefit of all the sickness.

I had a couple of v rough days over the weekend, feeling slightly better now though.

I think booking in is usually at around 10 weeks, so maybe chase if you still haven't heard by 8 weeks. When I got mine it was for 3 days later - so not a lot of notice.

9 + 1 today. Hope for the sickness to ease soon!

Cookiesandcoffee · 01/12/2015 13:08

Eeekk it looks like an actual baby! Worth every penny. Confirmed my date but out by only one day. Found the cause of my pain though.. I have a cyst on the side where I've been getting most of my pain

Sending good vibes to Sticky and Mord, and to all of you enduring morning sickness.

Am 6 weeks today! No symptoms to report save for some bother with scents. Especially the lingering smoked haddock smell in the kitchen (the perils of living in the Neuk) and, inexplicably, my mouth breathing DH's breath. Or maybe not so inexplicable...
