Hi all,

jealous of you all with your time off (but sympathies gem)- I was back at work on Monday! I've decided America just doesn't believe in holidays! At least we've finally had some snow - pic attached hopefully! It's going to get super snowy and cold eventually so a bit worried about slipping on snow and ice! It's lovely at the moment though

So we're really entering the business end of this now, eh? I guess some of you only have 2 months to go now?! I still have 3 months so head is still in the sand a bit in terms of getting anything ready

Toured our hospital last night which made it all feel a bit real. But it wasn't what I expected - having never seen a labour ward back home I'm not sure how different this is is to the UK, but it was kind of ..... peaceful? There were 15 labour rooms and only about 3 or 4 were being used, they said there is almost never an issue with capacity so there will almost certainly be a room free whenever we arrive and we are guaranteed a nurse who will work with us 1-1.

There was no noise or feeling of nurses rushing around, each room was totally private with its own bathroom (and bath for labouring in), had options for low lighting, cable TV with a special relaxation channel, iPod docking station, birthing ball, essential oils, an area for husband to sleep in and for newborn to receive basic care etc. The recovery rooms were similar. And this is just a public city centre hospital - nothing posh. Is this normal or a benefit of paying for health insurance?!?

indom I've started having the infamous fanny daggers, they are ouchy. me thicker discharge here too, it's a bit gross! ginger/scared lovely name choices, hope you're doing well. I think I mentioned on here before we're probably going with Seren. neh hope you've recovered from your ordeal, sounds horrible.

Back to work today Sad but only for 2 days Smile

I've had a couple of those fanny daggers - lovely aren't they Confused also got that delightful increased discharge. Pregnancy is just so glamorous!

Better get a shift on or I'll be late for work ha ha

Ooh, sounds posh ffaux! Certainly a bit more than the NHS will fork out for! I think the birth unit at the Big Hosp has nice rooms with pool & en suite, but if you've got a whiff of a complication the rooms are a bit more functional. And the post-natal wards are very... basic, and shared.

Hoping to stay at the local MLU this time which has a grand total of 4 beds all in individual rooms.

I am 28 weeks today. Does that make me 3rd trimester? (Certainly feels like it). So 11 weeks till term, 14 weeks till due date. Though I've no idea how I'll physically survive continuing to grow for that long. Confused

How's the weather for everyone? It's super windy here - which isn't unusual for here, but it's going on a lot longer than normal. I haven't looked out yet but despite being on the side of a hill, our garden is like a swamp.

marmiteandcheeseplease · 30/12/2015 08:26

Morning everyone, not been on for a few days so just catching up. missi sorry to hear about Zach's set back but hope he is doing better now Flowers

Re the immunisations situation with DPs niece- DP mentioned it to his sister, who said that DPs SIL had told DPs mum they didn't have the vaccination as she was 'sick' when she was supposed to do it but that they were going to do it. But DPs sister thinks it may have just been her fobbing DPs mum off. So I don't really feel like I can say anything. I mean its none of our business really anyway but its a bit stressful since hearing about the baby at DDs nursery who caught measles Confused

Had a quite busy few days in Bristol with my family running around seeing friends and family. It's really nice as DD is old enough now (2yr) to be a playmate for my nephew (4yr) so they have been having lots of fun together and makes me think how in 2 years time that'll be my DD1 and DD2! We're heading home today, then off to DPs parents for a family meal, there again tomorrow to see his brother one last time then three days at home by ourselves before being back to work Monday. We were gonna stay round DPs parents on new years eve but I vetoed it as we haven't been home for over a week and really want some just us family time now. Can't believe it's back to work Monday but only 5 weeks left of work - I can't wait! I've got lots of plans for my mat leave, got the box set of Ally McBeal for Xmas so going to take a trip down memory lane and watch some of that.

Also very excitingly we got emailed an invite for a wedding in Tuscany next July, its a few days before my birthday and DD1 and 2 have been invited so we're going to make a holiday of it, very exciting to have dates and location now so we can start to plan our holiday Grin

MyNameIsSuz · 30/12/2015 09:15

Hi everyone, happy almost new year! I've completely lost track of what day it is. I have a vague plan to try and tidy up before work on Tuesday but haven't got into gear at all yet.

Sorry to hear about Zach's infection missi, how is he doing?

indomitable and me, yes to the stabby bits and swampy pants - I'm on the daily pantyliners now! I'm getting kind of uncomfortable and feeling suddenly huge at 30 weeks.

Starting to worry about how little I have ready for the baby. I need to make a list, go shopping, spend a couple of days at the in-laws' sorting through the stuff in their loft, and clear a space in our bedroom for a crib. I have bought a few babygros and vests. I'm also finally working on the blanket I'm making, I started it and didn't like the colours, then I was paralysed by indecision over whether to carry on or cut my losses and start again. Am running out of time as my carpal tunnel is coming back Sad

The two dresses I ordered for new year's eve arrived and unusually they are both nice, I don't know which I like best! I only have seven more weeks at work, which is realistically the only other place I will wear it, so can't keep both. Help!

vroc81 · 30/12/2015 10:54

Hello and belated Merry Christmas to everyone! Spent a lot of it driving around all my family and Inlaws but was very good.. Have already told them I'm not going anywhere next year!! Anyone get any truly terrible presents?

Missi sorry to hear about zachs infection hope he is on the mend now?

marmite lucky you I love Tuscany, we'll all of Italy really! Hoping we might get down south later in the year.

Picked up crib from friend over Christmas and suddenly feel like we have a lot of furniture and stuff! There are some good bargains in mothercare if anyone is passing one!

paper and anyone else back at work, hope your days are going ok!

IndomitabIe · 30/12/2015 11:20

You know that 'electric shock' feeling when someone DH digs you in the side? Flipping octo-baby keeps getting me right there from the inside - it really tickles and makes me yelp!

RhubarbAndMustard · 30/12/2015 11:35

Sounds like fab Christmas's all round! Anyone attempting a NYE party? DP and I are planning.....absolutely nothing. We are looking forward to a take away and an early night! Suz I think we need pics of you in each dress so we can help you decide Grin

Indom snorting at 'Octo-baby'. Really does feel like that, doesn't it.

Missi I love reading your updates, but so sorry to hear of Zach's set back. He is doing so well and hope he is back on the mend. Must be so hard for you when you are so far away from him. Bet you cant wait to have him home.

I'm feeling good at 30 weeks and back at work today (hoping to finish early today and tomorrow). I've just started to get the dreaded PGP some of you have had for a while now and yy to needing a daily panty liner. Grim. But I do keep thinking that it is so much easier having baby inside you, despite all the niggles and pains. So I'm trying to enjoy the pregnancy experience as much as poss. When they are born and its the whirlwind of crying, nappy changes and feeding, we'll be wishing we were back to the relative sanity of pregnancy! I'm also trying to spend as much time with DS as possible. I worry that his little life will be turned upside down when his brother arrives. He will have had us to himself for nearly 4 years. Will be quite a change for him.

ffaux that pic is beautiful and your maternity facilities sound amazing.

dobbythedoggy · 30/12/2015 13:00

The weather here is horriable today! So windy the whole house feels like it's shaking and I have a feeling it may not stop raining. The first day in weeks where I don't actually need to go out (although dh has developed a stinking cold and did requset medicen if there's a break in the weather later) so probably won't get out of my pjs if I can help it.

I have reverse ripple blanket to finish as an 18th birthday present for dh's cousin who turns 18 tomorrow. Will be taking advantage of dd playing happily by herself with her new toys to crack on with it. suz I had carple tunnle with dd and it was showing signs of coming back but touch wood its not yet appart from the early signs like dropping things more often and strugling to carry shopping for too long. This time I've been advised by a friend to take off my wedding rings and avoid wearing my watch/bracelets and I've found it really helps, tingling and numbness is a lot more noticable if I do wear them. Really hoping it doesn't stop me crafting as I don't think I'll know what to do with myself.

vroc Mil was trying to organise plans for next christmas already when we saw her on boxing day. Dh gets so grouchy after spending any extended period with his family as boxing day proved so is currently keen to have christmas day at home again. Our christmas lunch was lovely but stressful this year so I think we're going to do it on boxing day next year rather than rushing to do it after church and have a quiet day with nice nibbles on christmas day. We'll have a second christmas day with mil later on. Actually got lovely throughtful gifts off everyone this year, usually have a fe wtf gifts of dh's family but got given bits for hospital bag and some nice thin scalfs to use a bf covers out and about. Dd got a fair bit of plastic tat which will be making its way to the bin as it breaks over the next few weeks!

marmite tuscany sounds lovely to look forward to as a family of 4!

Anyone else got plans for their first holiday with new arrivals? My parents have just brought a new car to accomidate everyone, 7 seater, and their current car needs another lot of money spending on it as the lights and electics are dying. They are very excited about doing a couple of whole family breaks next year using it. There will be a trip to scatter my nan and granddad's ashes in spring in Mavens. A belated birthday holiday for dd. And a trip to diseny land funded by my great uncle!

indom I know them as fanny daggers and they have been driving my crazzy on and off since bfp. Always seem to happen at the most inapropriate moments. Also usually soaking down below too! Have given up on panty liners as they just seem to trigger thrush so going through a few pairs of pants a day.

missi I hope Zack's infection is well on the way out by now and sorry to hear he was unwell.

Me624 · 30/12/2015 17:34

marmite your wedding holiday to Tuscany sounds lovely. dobby we are planning a more local trip for baby me' first holiday, my parents have a holiday home on the south coast by the seaside. I can't quite contemplate how you fly abroad with a baby although thousands manage it! Not sure yet when we'll go, I'm thinking maybe mid to late June so baby will be 3-4 months old.

Rhubarb we are going to a NYE party at a friend's but I think it will be fairly low key, there's about 15 people going as far as I know. I've told DH that I will make it to midnight for him to see the new year in but then we're straight off!

I had my 31 week midwife appointment today and the midwife had my bloods back from 28 weeks, unfortunately I'm anaemic again Sad this baby took more than a year to conceive and it was only when we went to kick off investigations that I found out I was massively anaemic. After three months on high dosages of iron I was back up to normal and that's when BFP came. I'm not surprised as I know it's common to get anaemic in pregnancy anyway even without my history, but I am concerned about it because as other ladies who are/have been on it will know, iron makes you constipated! The last thing I need with my piles ... I've already been taking Lactulose for the piles to keep everything soft but now the doctor has given me Movicol as she said I'd need more than the Lactulose to counteract the iron. Oh the glamour!

On a positive note everything else is well, baby is still moving all over the shop but the midwife said that's not a concern yet and first babies often don't get into position until as late as 34/36 weeks.

Paperblank · 30/12/2015 18:00

So...I have in my possession a letter from HR about Maternity leave.

AAARRRGGGHHHH!!!

I THINK I'M HAVING A BABY!! Grin

I'm finishing on Friday 5th Feb, but I'm only working mornings that week. It feels so soon!!

OP posts:
MyNameIsSuz · 30/12/2015 18:27

Ooh paper that is soon! I'm finishing on the 19th, which is seven working weeks, I can't wait! That's also when I'll be full term, I agree it's seeming very real now it's in single figures...

scaredmum2be · 30/12/2015 18:37

I finish on the 19th as well and dreading it :( It is going to be hell with my restless legs as I can't watch tele or sleep.

MyNameIsSuz · 30/12/2015 19:10

Try not to worry about it yet scared, see what the doctor says - is your appointment tomorrow? Be forceful and don't let them fob you off.

scaredmum2be · 30/12/2015 19:15

It's tomorrow yes. Had a phone app today but he offered me face to face tomorrow, always feel awkward talking over the phone. So be much easier tomorrow. Fed up though, had five hysterical crying fits today. My legs feel like torture, they can't let me live like this for another three months, it's complete torture.

Me624 · 30/12/2015 19:31

I'm another finishing on 19th Feb Grin well, unless baby me comes sooner. I'll be 38 weeks exactly.

MyNameIsSuz · 30/12/2015 19:35

Good luck tomorrow, be fierce!

Yay me, it's obviously a good day to finish! I'll be 37 weeks, I was going to work another week but I'm so sick of work now and I really really need the time off. If this one comes three weeks early I'll be gutted!

scaredmum2be · 30/12/2015 20:24

I shall be 36 weeks. May ask work in jan if I can work up until 38/39 weeks to keep my mind busy. I think it would help. I just want my little girl here and to hold her knowing all how I feel now was worth it. I know I will love her when I see her for the first time.
I used to dread childbirth but now I can not wait.
Also been on the pc tonight talking to some people I know on another site and it is funny how my legs stop feeling funny then. Might play monopoly with OH and try to sleep about 10:30-11:00. Don't want to go to early as I fear that It'll make the night worse. Doctors at 15:30 tomorrow.

IndomitabIe · 30/12/2015 20:52

Don't ask, Scared, tell them. Give 28 days notice - after 36 weeks if you've had enough you can start your leave early if you go sick related to pregnancy.

I'm due on 23/3 and have given notice to start my leave on 11/4, knowing full well it'll be triggered automatically by birth and I can finish any time after 36 weeks if I can't cope. Work know this too. (But it gives me the option to finish the term (40+1) and have some of the Easter hold on full pay).

You are perfectly entitled to do exactly the same if you wish.

Did you see SleeplessInNorthLondon's thread about coming out the other side of antenatal anxiety? You might find it reassuring.

Good luck with the doc tomorrow, don't minimise how you've been feeling. ThanksCakeBrew

IndomitabIe · 30/12/2015 20:54

*hols

And I will be putting my hospital bag (already under construction) in the car and taking it to work with me!

scaredmum2be · 30/12/2015 21:12

Thank you, I will.
I did thanks :) she has also offered to pm me so am speaking to her :). She seems lovely and I am so pleased she is feeling better now

IndomitabIe · 30/12/2015 21:28

Ah good. You will too. (Hopefully sooner than birth!) Thanks

scaredmum2be · 30/12/2015 21:44

I hope so. I really do. :) thank you

Paperblank · 30/12/2015 21:54

Scared I promise you, you will be absolutely fine. You must feel so despondent some days, but you've got all of us right behind you with virtual hugs and ready to listen. Let us know (if you want to, that is) what your GP says tomorrow.

Your beautiful daughter will be here before you know it and all your anxiety will melt away.

Big hug xx

marmite holiday to tuscany sounds wonderful. Italy is def one of my fav hol destinations.

me hope your iron levels improve soon. I'm currently eating copious amounts of spinach soup. Much tastier than you'd think & so quick to make too.

paper aarggg right back! We are all having babies - and coming round SO soon!

My last day in office is 4th March as due date is 25th March so have a bit longer left. Although also wondering how it's possible to get any bigger! Baby bump has grown a lot in last few weeks.

indom & all those with 'fanny daggers' hope they ease off soon.

I'm feeling a bit better now after train ordeal but still fuming. We've booked a house out in Bournemouth with 10 friends for NY weekend. Going to do a murder mystery night and generally chill out and spend some actual time together rather than our usual snatched coffee meetings which will be nice.

Good luck tomorrow scared

Well done on the crafting front dobby , photos please!
