You're all mere youngsters. I'm 44, so positively ancient. Feel 94 at the moment tho!

MaryEllen1 · 10/01/2016 14:26

I'm 36 and this is my first and I was worried about being an old mum but I've actually had people telling me I'm young and they all had their firsts in their 40s made me feel all young again Grin

madsaz76 · 10/01/2016 16:23

39 and a first. Increasingly common I think. No shortage of possible things to worry about however old we are.

Just went shopping with my 92 year old dad who wanted to buy us some kind of bugaboo bouncer. Went to the mamas and papas retail outlet in Huddersfield where eagle eyed DH spotted the lightweight pram we were looking at was priced £49.99 on the top shelf but £89.99 on the bottom shelf.

So he asked a member of staff and got it for lower price (ex-display) - original price was £190. He's rather pleased with himself Smile

MaisieDotes · 10/01/2016 18:19

I'm 39 too. This has been my hardest pregnancy to date but I don't think that has anything to do with my age- just other circumstances.

NorthernChinchilla · 10/01/2016 20:03

Jesus but DS has been hard work...he's still, still overtired from Xmas. The nights where we've got him down on time/early have been cancelled out by ones where for various reasons he's been late. Finished off by him accidentally kicking me in the stomach...sigh.

I had turned 31 with DS, will be 35 with DD. It's such an individual choice now, rather than part of a standard societal pattern, albeit still tied (at a population level) to various cultural/socio-economic/educational/work factors. I love the fact that it's all relaxed so much, and that to a far greater degree that ever before no-one cares about age, marital status, sexuality, etc. I know of so many friends' parents/grandparents who suffered in previous generations Sad.

I'm working from home tomorrow, hurrah! Can catch up on paperwork and also will be letting the surveyors in, as we're remortgaging as our current deal has run out. Wild and exciting times Wink

XingXingFox · 10/01/2016 22:47

Thanks madsaz going to try scup until this week, but am not hopeful. Crazy she'll likely be here by the end of Jsn if it is a c-sec. I need to think about the hospital bag!

I'm 34. I've definitely found this pregnancy more tiring and hard work than previous one at 31, but that could just be the damage inflicted by the first Smile I'm definitely one of the youngest mums around me and 38-40ish for a first is usual in my part of London, so I always feel like I'm playing at being a grown up!

XingXingFox · 11/01/2016 03:48

That was supposed to say acupuncture! So tired these days!

Posey01 · 11/01/2016 13:46

Is anyone else doing headstands trying to turn their babies round...or am I the only one?! 34 weeks tomorrow...so still have time, but not much!

Posey01 · 11/01/2016 13:48

Think i'll give acupuncture a go too XingXing - have you heard good reports?

clarabellski · 11/01/2016 14:08

Posey, have you checked out the spinning babies website? my midwife suggested we take a look at the exercises on there to give babies a good chance of being in the correct position. One of hte exercises (forward leaning inversion) is sort of like a headstand but obviously easier to do when pregnant!

Posey01 · 11/01/2016 14:17

I have had a look...I do have a birthing ball at home which is nice to use, but can't imagine sitting at a desk all day helps :( but I have been upside down resting on the sofa! What have you been doing?? I can feel kicks really really low down...so thinking baby's feet might be a bit stuck?! Not sure if that's possible!

clarabellski · 11/01/2016 14:32

I've been doing the upside down resting on sofa (forward leaning inversion) but more because it provides some relief from the strain on my back, rather than for positioning purposes.

I also do pelvic tilts - 'happy cat/sad cat' - I've done these for years and just con continued to do them during pregnancy (adapted - they don't like you doing 'happy cat' during pregnancy so its more like 'flat cat/sad cat'). They're also great for backache.

Sitting on the sofa at home is getting more uncomfortable so I've been using my ball for sitting more often.

At my 34 week check the midwife was about 90% sure that baby was head down. Time will tell at 37 week check up next week!

Incidentally I feel jabs both at the top of the bump and right down in the pelvis (like they're trying to bust out of my fanjo!), often at the same time. Remember they have hands as well as feet!

Posey01 · 11/01/2016 15:12

Good idea about the cat stretching-will give that a go for sure. We had a scan 2 weeks ago and baby was more or less standing up! I don't think it's moved since then hmm. Have a midwife app on weds so I'll chat to her to see what she thinks...not sure I like the idea of a ECV...

Good luck at the 37 week app next week :)

XingXingFox · 11/01/2016 16:21

The Spinning Babies hasn't worked for me. I also do yoga/cat pose. I think acupuncture has a much lower rate than ECV (which is about 50%) and I think both are more successful with second pregnancies, will let you know how I get on! I'm 35 weeks and TBH I have a gut feeling that my baby won't turn, my midwife says that sometimes they are in that position for a reason.

posey will you try for a natural birth anyway? My hospital won't let me for a footling (standing up position which is what mine is). I'm really going off the idea of ECV especially as my hospital gives you gas and air which makes me thing it must be pretty painful! Argh! So annoying!

Hope your babies are more cooperative than mine!

Posey01 · 11/01/2016 16:36

Sounds like we're in the same position XingXingFox! I also don't like the sound of the ECV... I've not spoken to anyone at the hospital though...but if baby stays footling then it seems c-sec is the safest route...although of course they can turn at any point!

I think it's just hard as it would be nice to know either way wouldn't it. We were 'planning' a home birth...(also baby number 1) but then things like this make you realise maybe baby is in control of this a bit-as I'm sure is a little taster for what is to come :)

Whoknewitcouldbeso · 11/01/2016 18:14

Argh feeling for you ladies whose babies are foot down. I have my last scan on Thursday but baby has been head down for a while now do hoping he still is. I would always elect for a CS in that position, only because I've read some very sad stories of manually turning babies and with my anxiety I just couldn't risk it

I've felt pretty shit today but managed to do lots of cleaning. I find unless I eat regularly I feel sick, almost similar to morning sickness in the first tri. I'm also stressed up to the eyeballs in regard to organising care for DS while I labour. I cannot rely on my Mother, she is in irregular contact but I'd also acting very weird lately and I just can't deal with s other hysterical phone call. So I'm thinking DP will just have to stay at home with DS if it starts at night and I'm going to have a word with preschool and ask if he could be dropped off for a full day even if he is not booked in for it, so at least DP could come to the hospital for some of the time.

madsaz76 · 11/01/2016 18:27

That sounds really tough. I'm stressed without the idea of sorting childcare or being on my own. Having heard some of your trials and tribulations with your mum though I can see why you are where you are. Have some Flowers

I am 100% certain my baby has turned and is beginning to engage. I reckon I can feel about 3/5 of head. Problem is that bump still feels massive (while looking quite compact) so my bump now reaches my lower ribs and sticks out a few cm in front.

I really don't know where we are going to go if bubs plans on continuing to grow. I laughed off the 95 centile stuff as positional but now I am sure head in right place and I have run out of space at 36 weeks.

Can't sleep, can't eat, ribs are bruised and tender to touch. I thought I was clued up and knew what I was letting myself in for but turns out my imagination was frankly inadequate. Confused

MaisieDotes · 11/01/2016 18:34

I feel that baby has gone back to where it was- diagonal (transverse/ oblique?? Not 100% sure).

Have midwife appt tomorrow so I'll wait and see what she says. Hiccups are on the upper side of my bump though. I'm 37+5.

joleyn · 11/01/2016 18:35

I was (just) 33 with ds and will be 36 this time round. Starting to get more tired and more back/rib pain and morning sickness seems to have made an unwelcome return. I have a scan on weds to see where we are at, last time twin 1 was breech and twin 2 head down. Am hoping twin 1 has turned so I can try for a natural birth. Last week at work this week too, sooo excited!!

madsaz76 · 11/01/2016 18:52

God I honestly don't know how you cope with twins in there!

MidnightRun · 11/01/2016 18:53

I'm going to make you all feel much better.. I'm 24 with my first and I am totally exhausted and achy and waddling and just totally fed up of being pregnant.. I'm only 34weeks! And I wasn't unfit beforehand.. I am now :p

No ones ever said I'm young to be having a baby, but I definitely feel like people are thinking it. Although in my area its very uncommon to be having a baby as late as 24 and even less likely to be married!

Who cares what anyone else thinks.. Our babies won't come out and judge us Smile

joleyn · 11/01/2016 19:11

Madsaz - I thinkI am just really lucky that I cope with pregnancy okay and my dh does tons for me. The movement is something else though - my belly constantly looks like a scene from alien!!

madsaz76 · 11/01/2016 19:28

joleyn I like watching the movement bits. I guess that would be fun. I think perhaps it's just more fun to watch.

Have discovered I am more comfortable if I basically use DH as part of my bump support. He is taking it quite well at the mo!

XingXingFox · 11/01/2016 22:53

posey I was having a home birth too, but the team referred me to the hospital when it was clear she was breach and not going anywhere, and I had to chat to the consultant before organising the scan. I feel a bit silly for pursuing the home birth path now!

Had the acupuncture appt tonight and nothing has changed, she told me some moves which were basically the inversions from the spinning babies site, so not feeling too hopeful.

I think the risks of c-sec are higher than ECV whoknew but both have v small risks in the grand scale. I'm just not sure if I want to do it and have the pain for it to fail, need to decide.

Twins must be awesome! I'm glad it's going well and fx crossed for them both to get into the right position!

clumsypots · 11/01/2016 23:03

Hi everyone sorry I have been quiet for a while had a lot of stress but things are finally looking up.

Congratulations on the baby arrivals!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has morning sickness returning, back to having biscuits by the side of the bed and toast at 3am when I wake up to pee and then feel too sick to go back to sleep

Has anyone else suddenly become extremely clumsy or is it just baby brain ramping up my natural clumsiness?
