Will my midwife offer any support on writing a birth plan,or is it something I just need to get on with myself?

clumsypots · 06/12/2015 22:12

northern I used my band for the first time today to do the weekly shop, I think it helped but osteopath said not to use it all the time as the muscles will take longer to repair after the birth.

gone I think you should just ask your midwife at your next appointment if you want some help, I'm not sure it's something they offer to do routinely as I did not make a birth plan at all last time.

haquoi123 · 07/12/2015 07:22

Supposed to have my 31 week midwife app today but it's probably cancelled due to the floods. It's all so awful and sad - we're pretty lucky as our town is relatively unaffected, but I know so many people stuck in their villages or who've got swimming pools in their kitchens... Such devastation! Loads of people pulling together though, fantastic community spirit. Really hope everyone here is ok, I know there was one other Cumbrian person in the thread at least?

On the plus side, I saw a lovely post about a family who just managed to get out of the floods and to the hospital with 15 mins to spare before their baby born! I think they were considering calling him Noah :)

We had the storm over the weekend but fortunately just high winds mainly. It must be so devastating to have the flooding so close to Christmas when people want to travel and have the house looking sparkly and festive. My heart goes out to those who are struggling right now Sad

Is anyone else finding they are increasingly breathless at the moment? Particularly after eating? I can remember this with my first pregnancy but I really hate it. I'm not even eating that much but still I find I can only breath shallowly sometimes.

NorthernChinchilla · 07/12/2015 08:57

My Mum has found herself being on an island rather than a small market town haquoi! She's a bit south of you. All the roads in and out flooded; my MIL tried to get there yesterday and failed.

CalypsoLilt · 07/12/2015 11:36

chinchilla you're still managing to walk to work!?? haven't managed that for most of my pregnancy :(

is this support belt one with velcro? i tried a sort of spanx one and hated it (and did 3 massive poos in one day!)

CalypsoLilt · 07/12/2015 11:39

gone I found this really useful for making a birth plan www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/pages/birth-plan.aspx

madsaz76 · 07/12/2015 18:22

Calypso my support belt is like 3 think velcro pieces which you position over pubic bone and is great though beginning to wonder if bubs hates it as always kicks the crap out of it. I haven't looked to see if you can get them online but will have a see when not on my mobile.

I am breathless now but think some of it is due to the cold. Today's concern is how do I maintain feelings of warm maternal attachment when hubs seems determined to scrunch his/her self up onto the right side of my abdomen and persistently headbutt my lIver for sustained periods of time.

Though part of me also worries if he did go head down he may go to town on my cervix Confused

this is the one - though my physio showed me to put it under the bump and the tightness focused on pelvis rather than on lower bump

Apologies, on phone so can only cut n paste. This one's mine calypso, may be slightly different to the others as the issues I was suffering with were specifically around my sacroiliac joint/nerve (can't remember which!!)

As mad says, it goes round the pelvis, not the bump. Walking uphill is a sod though Confused Sounds like you're really suffering?

madsaz76 · 07/12/2015 22:34

OMG.

My belly button is now almost out. I understand this happens, and post baby it will go back in. IN fact I have been expecting it.

But this just freaks me a bit.

Rufus200 · 07/12/2015 23:49

Has anyone had the anti rhesus D injection?

I'm having my 32 week scan tomorrow, I had 2 Drs very reluctant to give me injection at 23 weeks when I had that bleed. Makes me worry if they won't give it when you actually have cause for it then why not?! I've been reading it is made from human plasma and there is a risk of viral infections being passed on. Also some women have an allergic reaction to it. I'm also aware about other diseases like vCJD which aren't tested for and can be passed via plasma. I would never not have a blood transfusion in an emergency but really don't want somebody else's body fluids in my body if I don't have to. (I know I've shared a lot of DH's but I know where he has been). I haven't even taken paracetamol so far the whole pregnancy as I don't like taking things unless I really have to.

I know I have to have it as I'm O neg and DH is A positive but can I just have it after the baby is out instead?

MaisieDotes · 08/12/2015 01:21

rufus - I've had it 3 times, once after each of my two births and then at 28 weeks in this pregnancy.

In Ireland they only brought in the prophylactic dose recently, hence not getting it during either other pregnancy. It's up to you if you want to accept it at this point, but you will need it if your baby turns out to have a positive blood group, otherwise your subsequent pregnancies may not thrive.

There was a scandal here in the 80s when women who had received anti-d in the 70s were found to have contracted hepatitis from it. But that was a long time ago and obviously the screening is more thorough now.

I think there's a risk with any blood product, but it's a very small one compared to the risk of what could happen if things go wrong. A friend of mine had to have several pints of blood after her second baby so there's always that possibility too.

MaisieDotes · 08/12/2015 01:24

Hmm. Not sure I struck the reassuring note I intended with that last post, sorry rufus Confused

I hope you're not more worried now.

My brain is not working after cramming for an essay which I was trying to finish tonight (haven't finished it).

Note to self: do not come on MN with addled brain.

Sighing · 08/12/2015 05:44

Maisiedotes: then I'm never allowed on MN. Perma addled brain here Confused

I had the first of my growth scans. Before it I was in flux between worrying about a small baby (both DD managed to be a little small) and developing GD and having a huge baby ....... As all the measurements were 1 week ahead I woke up after a dream of giving birth to the world's biggest baby.
GTT on Thursday.
Despite having experienced positive labours I am becoming very nervous about that now! Time to improve some calming techniques.

Rufus200 · 08/12/2015 06:55

monkerina · 08/12/2015 08:03

Rufus I've been given anti-D 3 times now; once after surgical management of a previous miscarriage, once after a bleed at 16 weeks and the standard 28 week dose. Have you not been given any at all yet? Not sure why they'd be reluctant to give it, my hospital seems keen on the stuff!

Dreamt I was in a strip show last night with a number of other amateurs. The audience were all people we knew. It was weird.

CalypsoLilt · 08/12/2015 08:42

thanks madsaz and chinchilla I'm ok as long as I do nothing, and by nothing I really mean nothing. No Tesco, no mowing the lawn, no hoovering, no walking, no squatting to feed the cat, NOTHING..... obviously I do all of these and then just pay the price, take loads of codeine and have internal arguments with myself.

8 sodding days left in the office. Cannot fucking wait.

CalypsoLilt · 08/12/2015 08:53

hahahahahaha just remembered that scene in the Brady Bunch when the daughter is arguing with herself in her head...... that's what I'm like

about 1 min 40 in

Whoknewitcouldbeso · 08/12/2015 10:29

I've been hoiking heavy furniture about again with DP and then had to carry DS into preschool this morning in a firemans lift as he was having a total paddy and wouldn't move - we were late! With his pregnancy I wrestled sheep up until the end and with this one I will be wrestling him!!! Roll on Feb when I can do these ridiculous things without worrying!

I have had anti D lots of times too. At 28 weeks with DS then after the birth as he was a positive blood group (that fucker hurt). Then after a surgical miscarriage in February and a few weeks ago at 28 weeks with this pregnancy. I suspect I'll also have to have it again after the birth. They tested my blood for antibodies before they did the injection I think and the midwife rang up for the results whilst I was there and everything was normal. No idea what normal means but it sounded good to me!

MaisieDotes · 08/12/2015 10:36

8 days calypso! 🎉 Is that until your Xmas break or are you starting your mat leave then too?

I have to say my productivity levels are at an all time low. Work, college stuff and the house are all suffering. I seem to be coasting along doing the absolute bare minimum.

Just back from midwife appt. All ok but the baby is still transverse/ breech. Diagonal basically, with head up. Not a major issue for now so I'll have to see how things are in two weeks time.

DD has a day off school today (holy day in Ireland) so I'm going to take her Xmas shopping later. She probably wants to hang out with her mates but I'm going to get in there first!

CalypsoLilt · 08/12/2015 11:08

maisie yeh 8 days until I finish!! it's all a bit weird at my company, I think they are a bit cheeky but essentially from 19-Dec to 31-Jan is annual leave, then maternity leave from 01-Feb (due date 14-Feb). They have this weird "use it or lose it" annual leave policy and have said I'm obliged to take all my annual leave before maternity leave, but I don't see how they can enforce that especially if your due date is 01-Jan?! whatever. it worked out ok for me so I'm not going to take them to court! Xmas Wink

and yes, I'm also coasting doing the bare minimum of everything. house is a complete state. will just tackle over Christmas/NY. Or not!

when should we be worried about baby not being head down?

MaisieDotes · 08/12/2015 11:23

Well, probably 34 weeks but tbh I'm a bit worried now, even though I'm trying not to be.

A) I don't want to have to go for external cephalic version or whatever it's called. I just don't like the sound of it and the odds of it working are crap- although as this is my third baby my odds are a bit better as there's lots of room in my bump. But still.

b) I had back to back labours before and was hoping not to get that again. But I remember reading somewhere that if the baby is breech at x weeks (about 32/ 34) then when it turns it will probably be b2b.

So I hope he turns ASAP! I'll have to go on the spinning babies website later on.

clarabellski · 08/12/2015 13:50

Hi everyone, hope you are all doing as well as possible Flowers

Madsaz I have a weird innie-outie thing going on - my DH llikens it to when you put polyfilla over a hole - it will never be truly flush with the wall, there will always be a wee bump but it is not a full outie yet. Full outies give me the heeby-jeebys...If it happens to me I think I'll tape it over!

Maisie our NHS antenatal class recommended that spinning babies website regardless of what position baby is in - lots of good exercises for getting your body prepared for birth. When I read the site it turned out I did a lot of the stuff anyway (walking, swimming, pevlic tilts) and I've added in that one where you hang upside down off the coach/stairs.

Re: what position our babies end up in - I'm guessing it is just your luck at the end of the day, but doing the exercises feels good anyway (particularly the hanging upside down one - lovely relief on the pelvic area!). I agree the ECV thing sounds MENTAL!

MaisieDotes · 08/12/2015 14:02

clara It is great but didn't work for me last time so now I'm cross with it!

Hanging upside down from a coach sounds like a bit of craic though Grin Grin
