Kiwi - you're in the UK yeah? you just need to sign up to Boots and the supermarket baby clubs
Pampers and Huggies also send vouchers if you sign up online at their websites

I did Bounty before (they send you vouchers for all sorts and lots of junk mail), also free packs of bits and bobs to pick up from boots or mothercare

TheBlonde · 03/01/2007 20:44

Moss - I contemplated the idea eating the placenta last time, almost packed tupperware in the hospital bag. In the end I didn't fancy it so I just have a photo instead

kiwibella · 03/01/2007 20:46

Yep... I was just reading that too, Moss!!!

Why might you want to keep the placenta? Well, some people want to have a good look at the placenta in their own time, while others bury it in the garden, and still others eat some or all of it, which is thought to help with hormonal adjustment after the birth, and to help with heavy bleeding. All mammals do it - apart from some modern humans! If you don't say that you want to keep the placenta, your midwives will take it away and dispose of it).

kiwibella · 03/01/2007 20:47

I'm off to sign up thanks Blonde

3rdTriMossTer · 03/01/2007 20:51

Kiwibella / TheBlonde I would genuninely consider eating it, cooked of course I mean, but I think dh would be so disgusted he wouldn't come near me for a year!

kiwibella · 03/01/2007 21:14

really? Can I ask why??

Have been busy signing up to clubs... will probably regret the influx in my mail box but if I get a bargain .

3rdTriMossTer · 03/01/2007 21:17

Why I would eat it or why dh would be sickened?

Piffle · 03/01/2007 21:18

I'd like the idea of planting a new tree in our garden fertilised by the placenta but I know my 2 jack russells would dig and dig and the thought of them eating it makes me want to cringe.
So I'm not sure what we'll do.

RE the injection to get placenta coming out.
I never had it either time and placenta came out 30-45 minutes later after I'd fed the babes, easy and no pain no stress.

kiwibella · 03/01/2007 21:27

why would you eat it?

(it is a genuine question... I've never considered eating it).

Jayglebellsjayglebells · 03/01/2007 21:29

Saves on contraception though moss!!

Hi everyone, from long lost me, hope everyone had a great christmas and new year although it does seem like AGES ago now. Mine was pants. Both DH and i had food posioning on christmas eve, and from 8 in the evening for every hour till 6 on Christmas morning, we were up with sickness and diarrhea (sorry if TMI) i thought i was a) going to die b) going to go into pre term labour!!! It was AWFUL. Christmas day i had some family round but didnt eat a thing, just watched them all stuff their face!! Anyway, both DH nad i had to put on a brave face as it was DD first christmas. She had a bAll and got inundated with LOADS of presents. Then today she had another present filled day as it was her first bday!! My little girl all grown up. I got quite sentimental about it, and continuously thought about her birth and then about how the next birth will be! We had a great party with jelly and icecream, i even make a bday cake which she had a MASSIVE slice of ( pics soon to be up on www.peanutmonkey.co.uk) awwwwww such good times.

Well hope everyone is ok, sorry, i am really lame and only get on every so often, but i do think of everyone and hope that people are taking it as easy as they can. Hugs to everyone xxxxxxx

divastrop · 03/01/2007 21:29

ewww...no...i coulnt bear the thought of eating it.that would be on a level with drinking your period IMO.

3rdTriMossTer · 03/01/2007 21:31

Kiwibella, I heard it's really full of nutrients, and that it even has stuff in that can ward off pnd, don't know if that's true or just an old wives' tale, but I am not squeamish at all so I would do it just in case!

eidsvold · 03/01/2007 21:33

off to buy new buggy this morning. Have been through the baby clothes we have left over from the dds and most of it is white or unisex with a few pinks thrown in. Have put on layby new linen for the moses basket, some flanelette rugs for swaddling and some white baby gros/sleepsuits.

Layby is fab - you pay a deposit and then make payments every week and you have eight weeks to pay it off so it is sorted and away and not taking up room in our place until it is needed.

Have finished sewing 10 fitted nappies for the baby just need to wash them as as some are made from cheap new towels. GOt another set of reusuable wipes all ready to go.

I still have ages to go but I know once dd1 is back into her activities at the end of her summer holidays those weeks will just fly by.

I had Glucose tolerance test with all three pregnancies and they gave me a clear horrid drink - watery glucose syrup.

Did and eng lit and history course at university and taught high school history and english both here in Aus and in the UK for fourteen years. Hoping to go back to study and do a masters degree specialising in early childhood special needs teaching and branch out into that at a later stage.

Hope the moves all go well. Looks like we are to have our coolest summer on record and I for one am glad - hottest time of our year is Jan/Feb - not a great time to be very very pregnant.

TheBlonde · 03/01/2007 22:17

I think placenta is supposed to be iron rich I think

have a look at this

CallieNewYear · 03/01/2007 22:52

Now here's a poser - if you're a vegetarian, does it count as breaking non-meat eating if what you are eating you actually grew inside yourself???? I don't think I'm bothered about hanging on to the placenta particularly. I think I'll be too amazed to have a baby in my arms to worry about it. My sister buried both of hers in a place which is special to her near the sea though, so I guess if it means something to a person, it's nice if you do something appropriate to yourself with it.

Kiwibella at your sleep. Oh what I would give!!!!

divastrop · 03/01/2007 22:54

hi jay-i didnt see your post.sorry you had a bad christmas.i couldnt believe it when my lo turned 1 either,i was pregnant for what seemed like years then she was born and 5 mins later she turns 1

saying that,i still cant believe my little baby boy starts school this year..that is scary

OP posts:
divastrop · 03/01/2007 23:00

ok.im going to spew now.

OP posts:
eidsvold · 04/01/2007 01:28

haven't done anything with either of mine... first one was sent away as it was manky - think one of the words to describe it was 'gritty' placenta had been compromised which is why dd1 was emergency c-section.

3rdTriMossTer · 04/01/2007 06:44

Well, today is Noah day - I have forty working days left to go until OML starts! Ooh, ark at me!

Eids glad it's a cooler summer for you. I'm normally one of those "close the bloody window it's freezing" people but since I've been pg, I've been hot all the time, and that's in the middle of winter here so I really sympathise with you over the heat.

I'll stop talking about eating the placenta now! Anyway I do think dh would be genuinely horrified, so I'm going to plant it instead, and put the plant very high up so the dogs don't go digging.

I have to write to NatWest today, been putting it off a little but I have a deadline of the 12th so I need to get started. So although, obviously I'll be working very hard today, inbetween I'll have to find time to write my letter!

Dh last night said he is worried about the strain work is putting on me and that he's been talking to mil, they thing I should go off at the end of January and somehow we will find the money for the extra month. But two months' pre-baby maternity leave just seems silly / extravagant (sp?). What does everyone else think?

Rosylily · 04/01/2007 08:32

Moss take the time off!! You can come on mn all the time and keep us entertained
The shabby chic chamberpots would look nice with a plant in. I wouldn't be able to balance well on one of those in the middle of the night I'd definately spill it, glad I've got an upstairs loo.

Eidsvold you sound so organised its great, I'd like to be that sorted generally.

Well it makes sense to eat the placenta blah blah blah but eurgh...imagine. People make a pate with it don't they.

Jay you poor thing what a horrible christmas. I look forward to the birthday pics. One day I might work out how to put photos on here.

Well I might have to get addicted to celeb big bro as its on my current intellectual level and Leo sayer! And face from the A team how can I resist?!

harktheheraldfoxessing · 04/01/2007 08:44

Mossy - your DH sounds really nice. How about cutting your hours for the last month? Then you get the best of both worlds, some rest and some money! BTW I love scouse accents too, they sound kind of trustworthy . You're lucky to have your MIL to care for your LO when you return to work. We pay £12,000 in childcare per. annum. atm for a childminder. When I go back, DH will stay at home with the LOs as we'll have three.

Callie - I'm having to pee more than once an hour too - though last night managed to get away with just the once all night. I tend to wake at about 3am and can't sleep again till 5am, then DH gets up at 5.30am....

I had a GP ante natal appointment yesterday, which lasted about 3 minutes. But did hear the baby's heartbeat and he is also head down. Now we know here his limbs, bum and head are, which is nice. Keep calling him Monti, to see how much DH objects (he doesn't like that name).

My boss promised a risk assessment, but it hasn't materialised. We have air conditioning and can't open the windows, but I've made several complaints about it being too hot and stuffy - saying it makes me feel sleepy and faint and its affecting my work . Also often say "hey, haven't people heard of knitwear?" if they complain about it being cold. They sit their in sleeveless tops all day...

LOL at "common law SIL"!

I was going to eat my placentas although I'm veggie, but in the end didn't weant to bring either one home. Was too tired and couldn't be arsed in the end LOL!

Diva - I did a degree in fashion design but dropped out in the last term as I hated it so much (full of pretentious ejits). Later on I did a degree in housing management, but dropped out as it was so boring. Then 3 years ago, aged 39 and PG with DD, commuting across London and with a 2.5 year old son, I did an MSc in Urban Regeneration on day release from work. I loved being a mature student, enjoyed every second of the course and got a Distinction. Then I got offered £11k per. year gov. grant to do a PhD, but two days after that fabulous offer, I also got a job offer for a new job which was 15 minutes from home and £10k per. year better paid than my old job, so took the job offer instead. I never get offers so was very pissed off that the two good offers in my life came in the same week and I had to choose between them!!

I want to do the PhD, but only so that when people ask what I do, I can "oh I'm doing a PhD!" - 'cos I think it would make me sound more intelligent!!!! LOL

On the subject of potties; when DS is on the PC, he gets so excited and engrossed he's liable to wet himself, so I have to keep saying, "go and do a wee or I'll turn it off!"

Jay - you poor thing, sorry your Christmas was so miserable. But at least DD still was able to enjoy it.

Eids - that layby thing sounds really good; I don't think we have such a service in the UK.

oops, sorry for the mega-post!

31+4 (boy)

harktheheraldfoxessing · 04/01/2007 08:47

Rosy - Placenta Pate???

Rosylily · 04/01/2007 09:15

Fox, my dd is forever peeing at the computor!

3rdTriMossTer · 04/01/2007 09:25

Rosy, I know I said I wasn't squeamish, but even I have to admit placenta pate sounds a bit rank!

Foxy there was talk of me being able to reduce my hours for February, originally, and work eight thirty until five as a Resourcer. ("As I'm sure you're aware msmoss it is impossible to be a Consultant on fewer than 48 hours a week, and even that's pushing it, which is why - not meaning any offence - you haven't been billing so well lately, as you've been working - through no fault of your own of course the bare minimum.")

However the financial year has changed and now to fit in with the current business model the business needs a fully-fledged Consultant until the end of February.

I have another week to decide if I'm going to go off at the end of the month; I have to give 28 days' notice if I want to change it, but I have at least ten days' holiday so I can leave my decision until a little later.

Anyway I have to go and make my five most effective calls now. Ah, the joys.

Leoladyofleisure · 04/01/2007 09:28

Uuurgh, all this talk about placenta eating just after I have eaten breakfast is making me feel very sick!!! Especially when Diva said it must be like drinking period!!!!

Another bad, bad night last night, luckily ds was also wide awake between 1 and 4 so I had company !

Have consulant appointment today, I think I was worrying about it last night which didn't help my insomnia! Dh wants me to discuss my 'CS trauma' with her !

Moss, it sounds ot me as if your job is making too many demands of you, I also support Fox's idea that you reduce (you could always dress this up as working at home as you find the commute too stressful!).

I also don't enjoy being pregnant although didn't feel so bad about it yesterday when dh said 'what have I done to you?' meaning that he feels really bad that I am physically struggling and very uncomfortable. With DS i did at least look as if I was blooming, but this time around I look how I feel!

Boo, your friend with the baby, it could be that he is feeding so frequently because he is big and only has a small stomach to hold the milk in which can't yet hold enough milk to support his demands. Agree the last thing your friend needs is criticism and people saying 'you should do.....', just remind her that it is only a phase and is will pass.

Callie, IMHO any drugs you don't need don't take. The placenta should come out naturally and if it doesn't after a certain amount of time then you may need drugs, but shouldn't be given them routinely.

Any clothes bigger than new born for ds absolutely drowned him when he was born (he was 3.37Kg 48cm so fairly average). Best thing is to get someone to buy you a couple of outfits after the baby is born when you know how big it is, its nice to have one or two things that fit the baby properly.

I didn't enjoy university (went to uni in London), I got married (xh) the summer before I went and was treated as if I had a disease by all the other students of my age. We also had absolutely no money and I spent more time working than I did studying. I did psychology which would have been great IF I had been able to continue to do a masters afterwards, but the degree on its own is useless to do anything psychology related. Now I work in IT and wish I had done something medical (although very happy I am not a doctor as I had originally planned).
