Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Laidback - I had a glucose tolerance test a couple of weks ago and I was given a glass of lucazade to drink B4 a blood test

Diva - I can honestly say I did enjoy my first two pregnancies, but this one has been so tiring. Must be my age + having two kids and working f/t + also the time of year me thinks. I'm sure if it was June or July now, we'd all feel a lot more energetic. I always feel knackered in the winter, as though all of my energy is taken up just keeping warm....

3rdTriMossTer · 03/01/2007 17:46

Laidback whenever we've moved we've always left the packing until the night before. But we've only moved within the UK!

Diva I can honestly say my degree only ever got me one job (which I hated). The rest of the time it was my trusty GCSE typing that did the trick by giving me a speed of up to 80 wpm! That and my slightly scouse accent (works a treat in sales-type roles believe it or not, especially when I was in London, don't know why but they loved it!)

Foxy after my OML I'm going to resign and find another job. (Although as far as my boss is concerned I'm most certainly coming back ) We can't afford for me not to work, unless dh gets a promotion, but if I can get something for two or three days a week, MIL will look after Bertie and it will keep the coffers afloat.

14 minutes to go....

3rdTriMossTer · 03/01/2007 18:02

Off home now!

TheBlonde · 03/01/2007 18:17

Just a quick hello before I go chuck DS in the bath

Rainbowgirl - hope the move goes okay, once that's done you can focus on the baby more

Feeling worn out here but managed a nap when DS had his which was good.

CallieNewYear · 03/01/2007 18:21

I'm in the Eng Lit graduate club too. This is threatening to turn into a bookclub thread - brilliant! For about four years at school I thought I was going to do medicine but changed my mind with a year to go cos I loved English too much - now just remind me what doctors earn....??!! Mossy, both my sisters and two of my friends went to various Liverpool colleges at different times so I knew the student scene there pretty well, albeit quite a few years back now. Great place, always felt very at home.

It's interesting the hours people can't sleep between. I'm finding it impossible to sleep before at least 2am and have varying amounts of sleep after that time. Last night wasn't too bad, I actually got almost five straight hours between 3.30 and 8.30, and a bit before and after, which seemed like a miracle when I woke up. I went to the loo four times between 12 and 3.30 though - WHY???? Definitely getting more pressure on the old pelvic area now. MW said baby's head is down, hurrah, hope it stays there.

Rainbow, was lovely to hear from you. Good luck with the move - I admire you so much doing it now, you're an inspiration! Makes me think anything is possible.

Piffle, congrats on the little blue bundle. There do seem to be a lot of boys. I think it's only me, Leo, Amie, Sponge and TheBlonde who don't know what we're having now, that's from the stats thread anyway. Is everyone on there btw - when I read it there seemed to be some names missing.

Dolly, I hope whatever's been going on with you gets sorted out soon and it's nothing too serious.

Boo, hope your dog is ok.

Amie, if the evil woman at work tries to stop you opening a window, say loudly in the presence of both her and your boss (if she isn't) about the very well-documented dangers of women overheating in pregnancy and the legal responsibility (ie sue-able if not followed!) of a workplace to protect its pregnant staff from harm.....then suggest the excellence of a good cardigan for keeping the body warm! Seriously, have you had a risk assessment carried out since you became pregnant? Cos they have to do it, and take into account anything that bothers you.

We went to M&S today armed with vouchers DP's common-law-sister-in-law (as he calls her) had sent us for Christmas, and I'm now the proud possessor of some baby clothes. At last, I have things! We swithered between the newborn (which said 7lb 6 I think) and the up to a month (9lb something) and a woman next to us said, get the bigger ones, they'll grow out of the little things too fast. Was she right? I did get a set of bodysuits in newborn size, but everything else was the up to a month. It's difficult when you don't know what the birth weight will be, isn't it? I'm not sure about getting an outdoor bodysuit, if I should get a smaller or bigger one - any advice? The other thing is, I haven't signed up for anything like Bounty or whatever - is it really worth it and if so, what are the good ones to go for?

30+6

CallieNewYear · 03/01/2007 18:28

oh, and Eids, you don't know what you're having either do you? Just reread the stats list.

TheBlonde · 03/01/2007 19:01

On free stuff old thread - bounty is annoying as you get lots of junk mail as a result but boots/tesco/pampers etc all worth it for the $$ off coupons

Callie - by outdoor suit do you mean this sort of thing?
I received a couple as gifts for DS who was born in Feb. But as we live in London it was never cold enough really

CallieNewYear · 03/01/2007 19:01

I've started a thread on whether or nor to have syntocinon/syntometrine injection to expel placenta. Any opinions gratefully received here

CallieNewYear · 03/01/2007 19:04

Xposts there TheBlonde. Yes, that's the sort of thing. I was thinking just in case I end up in hospital and have to bring the LO home in something whether it would be a good idea to have one in.

I thought Bounty was bound up with Boots etc. I see I'll have to look into this a bit more! Thanks for that.

TheBlonde · 03/01/2007 19:07

A hat and a blanket is probably just as good unless you live in Scotland (sorry can't recall where everyone is)

They do appear to be going cheap though

3rdTriMossTer · 03/01/2007 19:24

Callie lol at a bookclub thread. Although actually I think there is a bookclub somewhere on MN. Trouble is atm all I read are books about pregnancy and babies!

As for sleeping, I'm going to make you all now but I actually sleep okay. Actually it's all down to mil's clever idea from days gone by - a chamber pot no really. Our loo is downstairs, through the living room then through the kitchen (old terrace) so as I get up four or five times a night it was a pain and then I couldn't get back to sleep. Now I have mil's idea on the landing I am fine!

TheBlonde hadn't even thought about signing up for owt like that, will go & check out the thread!

TheBlonde · 03/01/2007 19:30

I have a big wad of coupons in my bag at all times
I also only try to only buy nappies or wipes when they are on offer

Rosylily · 03/01/2007 19:34

Yep hat and a blanket does the job. I have a couple of different sized outdoor suits from sis though.

Diva go back to studying later, it will be exciting! I nearly did eng lit but instead did Fine Art and I used to go around in dungarees, mens shirts and DM boots all covered in paint Foundation in Manchester and degree in Portsmouth. I loved it! oh what a great life that was. (sigh)

I can't even remember if I got the injection to shift the placenta! I think I might have the last time....must check out the thread and make an informed decision this time!

BooBoo I find my babies feed really frequently and feel as if I do nothing else but sit and feed all day. I get really hungry and thirsty. It really is physically demanding making loads of milk for a hungry baby but very rewarding too. With ds1 I felt that I was struggling to feed him enough and he had colic. But by the time I was feeding ds2 he hardly had anything else until 10 months...I was making gallons of milk like a big old cow

Rosylily · 03/01/2007 19:37

Chamberpot

3rdTriMossTer · 03/01/2007 19:38

Rosy, don't knock it 'til you've tried it

Actually, don't knock it. It'll go everywhere, yuk!

Rosylily · 03/01/2007 19:42

snort

divastrop · 03/01/2007 20:21

where does one purchase a chamber pot these days??

callie-my first 3 babies never fit into newborn stuff atall, they went straight into 0-3 months things.dd2 was in newborn size for the first 4 weeks, then as soon as she got out of hospital and started feeding properly she had a massive growth spurt and was in 3-6 months by 6 weeks.i had snowsuits for my 3 winter babies but i live 'up north' so its necessary.i was looking at a really cute one in tesco today that was rduced to a fiver...but i have so many clothes i cant justify buying new stuff till i know how big the baby is going to be.

kiwibella · 03/01/2007 20:23

Moss... but glad that it works. My sleep is broken frequently but I haven't had any problems with not sleeping. Last night I had a headache and went to bed before 9 and slept through until 9 this morning!!

Diva... I agree, you will have loads of fun studying as an adult student because you want to be there. I also avoided university after school / got pregnant too young but I went back in my late 20s and got my teaching degree.

The books you are talking about sound very deep... no mention of sappy chic-lit titles which I recognise .

Blonde... are you in the Bounty Club or where do you get your vouchers from?? We need to stock up on nappies.

I have to decide what to do with the placenta. Culturally, we are meant to plant it with a tree (it's about giving it back to the earth) but we don't have a garden!! With dd we temporarily planted it in a big pot until we travelled to dh's family home. I doubt there is any chance of getting it across the water this time.

kiwibella · 03/01/2007 20:27

that's the thing I'm stuggling with, Diva - I'm making so many guessing at knowing how big the baby will be and how much I will need. Also, although we were told it could be a girl (even though she wasn't giving much away by lying on her belly), I'm worried that we could end up having a boy who has to wear lots of pink for the first few months!!! The lady at Marks commented on the sleepsuits I purchased the other day, "oh, so you know it's a boy?". it was really that the colours I chose were the most neutral (blues and greens).

3rdTriMossTer · 03/01/2007 20:32

you can actually buy one on ebay, I kid you not. But a big bowl does just as well. Those of you with upstairs toilets need not worry though!

kiwibella · 03/01/2007 20:33

ooh, the last link provided on your other thread Callie is brilliant (or am I being naive?? ).

writing a birth plan

divastrop · 03/01/2007 20:36

ive always bought white stuff before the birth, you cant go wrong then

ilike the idea of giving the placenta back to nature etc....its seen as a waste product here IME,something you want rid of asap as though its dirty or something.thats awful when you think its been nourishing your baby for 9 months.

OP posts:
divastrop · 03/01/2007 20:38

i have an upstairs toilet,i could do with a chamber pot for dp(to go by his computer).

OP posts:
3rdTriMossTer · 03/01/2007 20:39

Diva / kiwi, I would love to plant the placenta. We don't have a garden but we could put it in a big pot in the back yard and grow a plant in it. I told this to mil, she thought it was an ace idea.

Dh predictably thought it was really weird. But an improvement on eating it!

3rdTriMossTer · 03/01/2007 20:41

Diva lol at your dp having a chamber pot by his PC!
