at the snow too. dh is off skiing in a couple of weeks, and then again a couple of weeks after that taking ds. And I don't get to go at all this year Will definately make up for it next season though - if this one is anything like ds s/he will be walking by the time s/he gets to see snow for the first time. ds had his first little slides on skis at about 8 months (pic @ 10 months ) - so next season we might even be able to introduce the new one to skiing!

Actually this one is much more active than ds was at the same stage - and he did everything really early even without an older one to emulate - so if that's any indication we're in for a fun time this time around.

3rdTriMossTer · 02/01/2007 12:18

Ah Lunar he's so cute!! Bless!! And he looks so cheerful to be in his little skis!

I have never been skiing. Not just the expense but also I'm very clumsy and would be scared of falling and breaking lots of bones!

I think snowball fights are as much exertion as I dare in the snow

Boobooroastingonanopenfire · 02/01/2007 12:18

LunarSea - that is one extremely cute DS you've got there.

MsMoss: my arse has always been sort of wide and flat. Nice. The most scary thing to me atm though is my back. I've gone from a 32D to a 40DD. Fookin' 'ell.

It's all ribcage expansion too - no extra fat to speak of round there.

Anyone else had this?

It means I look huge all over.

So kitty, do you think the every hour and a half thing 24/7 is normal? I'd be interested on some experienced takes on it. My Mum and BF both nodded wisely and said 'she's not keeping the baby awake through feeds/distracting him enough', but surely some babies just want to feed more often?

I suppose if your own babies were able to go longer between feeds you'll assume they're all like that.

What do you think?

Booboo I've gone from a 32 to a 34 and I think I'm going to need a 36 soon. I have really bad pains under my boobs, mw says it's my fundus (?) pressing upwards.

It gets worse with a tight bra, or if I have a large meal.

So I'll have to get a looser bra.

harktheheraldfoxessing · 02/01/2007 14:03

Lunar - he is really cute isn't he? . DS liked the picture and piped up with, Mummy when can I have some skis?

Mossy - I have huge boobs and a tummy - when I'm pregnant is the only time I don't have to hold my tummy in

Leo nice to see you back and glad you had a nice time in the mountains

bethoo · 02/01/2007 14:38

hello everyone and i hope you all had a good new year. not long now! i have so much to ask and say so i will try to keep this short!
Leomincepies - i am separtated from my hubby and am having a baby with my new partner, i want to give my baby my maiden name, can i do that without changing my name legally as i have not yet started divorce proceedings?
Mosslebe - i notice you mention pets, do you have any still as i have 2 cats and 2 dogs and am getting pressure from my parents to get rid of them but i cannot bring myself to! esp as such bad press at the mo about dogs and children!
Evenhope - my baby can be very active one day, constant non-stop then the next it is though he is recooperating as he is quiet, the midwife said ok and will encourage a kick chart at 34 weeks.
Larktheherald - i too have worries about the cost of baby as i enquired about the maternity grant but you do not get it until the baby is born so i am concerned i will not have a pram until after he is born!

i must sound like an unorganised mess!

3rdTriMossTer · 02/01/2007 15:01

Hi Bethoo,

Yes I still have my pets. Merlin (border collie) is brilliant with children; all the neighbours' kids love him and when it's warm out they try to get him to play with them! Arthur (mixture) is quite shy with new people, so the kids see him as a bit boring, but he is very cuddly and friendly.

As for Ziggy (moggie) he has become very attached to my bump and can't keep away from it; keeps trying to kneed the bump with his paws, so hopefully he will be as friendly when lo isn't under skin any more!

From birth I lived in a house with cats and dogs galore. I think as long as your pets esp. the dogs are well behaved (i.e. they aren't bred as guard dogs!) and as long as you still make sure you always supervise the baby / child when s/he is near the pets, it should be fine. Hopefully.

We will just keep a very close eye on them. I have a feeling the biggest problem we will have will be hygiene tbh, as I reckon Arthur will be desperate to give our lo a wash at every available opportunity!

Bethoo, have you tried your local freecycle group for a pram? We got a lovely second hand cot, lots of people give stuff away.

Boobooroastingonanopenfire · 02/01/2007 15:05

Hi bethoo. We've got a dog too. I've persuaded everyone I know with babies/ children to let us come over. I cuddle the baby in front of her to get her used to it. So far so good! She watches for a while, then ignores us. Then she gets a treat.

She's also good friends with my BF's 2 year old son. They play really nicely together!

bethoo · 02/01/2007 15:53

thanks. i will look at freecycle.
i have two very loving boxers but they are very clingy to me so i just hope they do not get jealous. my only concern really is walking them with a pram as they can pull at times and i am currently in the process of retraining one as he is a bully with other male dogs. i have had friends bring round their little ones and they have been fine. one of my boys is a typical bouncy boxer who insists on jumping everywhere! luckily they are at that age (6.5 years) where they just sleep between walk and feeds! my male cat worries me as he has become quite the bully at home and he is quite the territorial one! i have started to let him out so he will be out when the baby is asleep but he still insists on sleeping on my bed!
can you believe my dad was going on about 'poo particles in the air'. why is it non animal people always say how wrong it is to have animals and children and pet owners do not?
but i know the one rule i will adhere to and that is to never leave them unsupervis, no matter how short the time! accidents do happen.
have my first antenatal class or should i say parentcraft lesson tonight. i heard they no longer teach breathing techniques etc!

kittyinwaiting · 02/01/2007 15:54

hello, welcome back Lunar, Leo and Bethoo, hope you all had a very jolly time!!

Boo, yes I think it's completely normal for some babies to want to suckle alot of the time. It's not always about food, although they have very tiny tums and can only take tiny portions, so they need to fill up frequently. It's about comfort and security too. All of mine have been frequent bu tuspwer fast feeders, never more than 5 mins at the boob, so i guess that's why it doesn't bother me all that much. When i had ds1 i was so paranoid about how long he was spending on each side and used to sit there timing him Now I feed on the hoof, in asda, doing the cooking, walking down the street etc.

Any way I am on a very, very interesting sex thread at the mo, so I'll be off there, bye !!

divastrop · 02/01/2007 16:03

this double buggy now i shall read the rest of the posts...

Boobooroastingonanopenfire · 02/01/2007 16:20

Bethoo - there seem to have been lots of threads on MN about our houses being riddled with human faecal matter - some people are obssessed! Makes me laugh. .

Our dog isn't allowed in our bedroom - we've got a doggy version of a babygate. We'll put another one on baby's room too.

Thanks Kitty. I just want to be prepared as far as I can be. I read The Baby Whisperer, and she said that no baby needs to feed that often unless they're going through a big growth spurt. Didn't think it could be that black and white!

They tried a dummy for comfort suckling, but he didn't like it.

Am picturing you BFing unconcernedly in ASDA while the 'Breasts are dirty and rude' brigade stare in horror. Lol.

AmieR · 02/01/2007 16:22

Happy New year to all.

Had a very quiet NYE, went out to a party till 10ish, but DH and I just wanted to spend our last NYE as a couple just together so came home, then DH spent the gongs of NYE on the toilet as he was "desperate" LOL

had a crazy shopping spree and now seem to be quiet prepared for LO's arrival! maybe...

Carpet being fitted tomorrow, so have spent the last two days glossing the wood work, bump was a slight hindrance but we mananaged to get it don in half the time we were estimated so realxing now fro the rest fo the day but back to work tomorrow!

Lunar - he's a lovely little chap only been skiing the once, but loved it, will definatley be something we do as a family.

We have a 4 yr old mongrel, he's an alsation akita cross, he looks scary when alert and a lot of people are put off by that, but he's so sloth like and loves nothing more than a bit of fuss. He's never really had much contact with children so i'm a little anxious about how he will be. He's obssessed with DH so as long as he gets his daily fuss from DH, I can't see him being a problem, he spends his days asleep in his bed in the kitchen, when he doesn't come to work with me. But we'll see I guess. I think as long as you never elave them alone together, everything should be fine. At the end of the day, they're animals and no way of telling what they will do.. supervision is key.

We're more decidied on girls names that we are boys names. Middle names are sorted.

I'm getting more and more uncomfortable each day now when I'm stood up, sitting down is lush! But standing is unbearabel at times, I think LO has built their nest right on my bladder... I hope they move soon!

kittyinwaiting · 02/01/2007 16:31

It's true Boo. you know I think these expert books can be useful at times but ONLY if used a s a GUIDE and not as gospel. They all have some good ideas that can be adapted as needed.
Tbh my boobs are so titchty that I shouldn't think anyone would notice if I walked around topless, they'd probaby think I was a bloke

3rdTriMossTer · 02/01/2007 17:40

Bethoo, do you know only the other day one of my neighbours (who is normally lovely btw) said "oh you'll have to get rid of your cat now, they sit on babies' faces and suffocate them".

Hmm. 'Cos I was thinking of leaving my newborn alone with the pets. In fact I was thinking of utilising Ziggy as a childminder when I go back to work. Ah, you think I jest but he's cheap; I pay him in Whiskas Dry and low lactose milk

Booboo when I found out I was pg I bought about four baby "manuals" and they all contradict each other in various places! I bought them before I discovered Mumsnet

Oh, only twenty six minutes to go and then I am outtahere! After that only 41 working days to go until I start my maternity leave...

Kitty I saw that thread, the sex one, I was going to post 'cos I've been having either crap sex or no sex since I got pg. In fact ttc sex was a bit of a military exercise so it's been a while. But I was too to post!!

AmieR · 02/01/2007 17:48

Moss - some people can't help themselves can they? one of the reasons we've not discussed our name ideas with the family! I can just imagine the pearls of wisdom.

Last time we attempted sex, the other week, it really did nothing for me! Find it hard to feel sexy when I look like a inflatable whale.

3rdTriMossTer · 02/01/2007 17:50

Diva v impressed by your buggy! Did you get a proper ebay bargain too?

divastrop · 02/01/2007 17:52

bethoo-i think you will have to either give lo your married name or your dp's name, you can only register the baby with your current legal name or the fathers name if hes there at the registration.changing the name later on is not easy eithermy ds2 still officially has his fathers sirname and i cant change it.

booboo-i have a cat.well, its dp and dd2's cat so im told.she randomly attacks me and the older children but she will play with dd2 for ages and never hurt her.my mums dog was a big softie when ds2 was a baby, the only problem i had was with him growling at other dogs if they went within 5 yards of ds

kitty-i dont like putting newborns in 2nd hand buggies but i dont like the idea of spending a fortune on something a toddler is going to smear chocolate all over either so i thought i'd go for something cheap.i prefer lightweight buggies cos i do so much walking round town etc.

i recall ds1 still fed every 2 hours when i put him on a bottle also but he drank it really fast so it didnt bother me.ds2 was having 9 bottles a day till he was 6 weeks old, then i changed his formula and he settled down alot.

i rang the environmental health this morning, the man is going to visit next door this week and give them a warning letter.the HA said if i find out for sure who the landlord of next door is then they will contact him and tell him about the problem.

i feel so pregnant now.im waddling along holding my back, getting out of breath just going upstairs etc.i feel like my pelvis is stretching as well.

Amie I think dh is a little nervous that it might make me go into labour! Also he has put on some weight recently (I think he's been having a sympathetic pgcy!) and worries that I'm only doing it because I feel obliged too.

But thankfully I keep having these very horny dreams which - sorry in advance if tmi - result in orgasm anyway

Never had that before!

TheBlonde · 02/01/2007 18:10

Diva - glad to hear the EH are doing something

Re pets - we don't have any. I prefer cats to dogs but it's all in the training imho. The inlaws have dogs and it's a nightmare with DS as one is a biter

No sex here. Way too tired. But I comfort myself in the fact that in 10 weeks time we'll be at it trying to get labour started!!

sexkittyinwaiting · 02/01/2007 18:30

Mossy, do post on it. They even convinced me to change my name . Do you like it??

I don't have sex. I can't work out how I've got so many kids and when it's happened in the past it's beem me doing the work

Diva, that's a bit hopeful about the EH warning isn't it? How can you go about finding out the landlord for next door?

kiwibella · 02/01/2007 18:45

girls, I miss u all soooo much!!! . I keep wanting to check in here but it's always a quick look here and there. I admit that I haven't read through all the posts that I have missed over the last few days... I got to Mossy's orgasms (no help needed and immediately wished I had more time to read on... dinner's cooking

kiwibella · 02/01/2007 18:47

wooohooo Diva... it sounds like progress!! I don't imagine that your neighbours will be fazed by the visit from EH (they haven't been neighbourly with you!) so I hope that you are able to find out who the landlord is and they take more sympathy. Good on you!!

evenhope · 02/01/2007 18:54

I'm very of all of you who've decided on names. We're still arguing. I had loads of boys names but all the girls names we liked when we had the others are all in the top 50 and/or really chavvy. Everything I suggest DH poo-poos. He can't see whats wrong with popular names- all the others have unusual names and I don't want this one being the 6th in her class with the same name.

She's gone from being very quiet to having some sort of day-long wrestling match today, and it hurts!

I tried on some tops at the weekend in a shop and caught sight of myself sideways in the mirror! What a horrible shock- didn't realise I was that huge. No wonder I'm struggling to get off the settee (the kids laugh!!!)

sexkittyinwaiting · 02/01/2007 19:24

Evenhope. this is a good site for names. i particularly like the chart so that you can see when certain names wre popular etc \link{http://www.babyplanners.co.uk \here}
