Rosylily · 31/12/2006 20:12

I think vit K easily prevents some unusual condition that could come up with the baby (can't remember what of course) and I thought it was definately worth doing. Mine got the drops.
The heel prick test is the horrible one, where those circles on a card have to be fully filled with blood and so the mw has to squeeze and squeeze at the screaming baby's foot to get enough blood...its horrific

I am still in my pyjamas and full of admiration for all you guys who've braved the shops today!

Happy new year everyone, its going to be a fun year! This time next year we can hit the bottle apart from the crazy people who could be pregnant again this time next year!!

kittyinwaiting · 31/12/2006 20:16

Spongecake, the baby doesn't have to have anything. I mean by that that you can refuse, I wouldn't though. Vit k helps with blood clotting and some babies can be at risk if they don't have it. It is usually given within mins of birth as a jab. I hate kids injectiions as a rule and mine have had very few jabs, but this I think is important.

Mossy, I can't believe you went to ASDA at that time

Diva, glad the window is fixed and hope it's not too noisy tonight.

sorry, not feeling v. chatty at the mo.

spongecake · 31/12/2006 20:22

thanks rosylily... am still in pjamas too! not sure how I will cope with work on tuesday.. am v of any lucky ones who are already on mat or don't have to be at work. dh is working again tonight... at least the restuarant is full to bursting Just heard fireworks outside! haven't actually moved off sofa to see though...

diva, pleased about your window btw.. hope the "singers" next door pipe down tonight- can't believe they haven't got bored of it by now-

Rosylily · 31/12/2006 20:27

Hee hee I wonder who will be pregnant again next year? Not me though! Oh no, I'm going to master birth control as one of my new year resolutions!

Rosylily · 31/12/2006 20:31

Spongecake my dh is in his restaurant too. He'll be very busy. Glad I'm not the only one in pjs

3rdTriMossTer · 31/12/2006 21:02

Diva it's meant to be really windy tonight so I'm glad you managed to get the window fixed!! Did you get any low-alcohol stuff? I got some shloer (sp?) but dh got some sparkling wine so I might have half of that and half orange juice. That's if I can make it to midnight!!

Rosy that heel prick thing sounds horrid! I haven't read up enough about what happens immediately after the birth; I've been too busy genning up on the bit before! Will have to look into it...

Kitty I had spent all day cleaning and dh had been doing up the spare room with mil. Got to about three and suddenly we realised we'd nearly nothing in. Still managed to spend a whole heep though, not sure how?

We're going to have to be so much more organised once Bertie comes along. Having said that it was a milestone for me when I realised we hadn't run out of milk for nine months!

Spongecake I can't bear the thought of work on Tuesday either still only eight weeks... only eight weeks...

I'm off now to put some clothes on (had a bath after the Asda ordeal) and eat dh's delicious meal. HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!!

divastrop · 31/12/2006 21:15

sponge etc-i'm of those who get to go to work and talk to other adults and can go to the tiolet without being followed(well,i would hope so,anyway).

rosy-dd2 had to have her heel pricked every hour when she was first in intensive care, and they had to fill a small glass tube with blood every time.im just glad she was drugged up to the eyeballs and couldnt feel it(or was too sedated to care).it made me laugh though when she had her first jabs 6 weeks later and screamed the place down for 10 minutes after.she has a very low pain threshold when she has an audience...

i will not be pregnant again next year,i really have to pluck up the courage to talk to the consultant about being steralised though,i was meant to mention it at my 28 week appt but i find her scary and unapproachable.or maybe im scared of making such a 'final' decision cos i dont trust myself

OP posts:
kittyinwaiting · 31/12/2006 22:36

I will not be pregnant either. I intend to enjoy the few evenings out I have with as much alcohol as I want . Also there comes a point when I have to say it's not fair on all the children I do have to the have more.
I'm geting very frustated that I cannot bend over. There is so much mess and I can't bend down.
I'm very of those of you who have got to 30 weeks. It's such a milestone. Still I'll be there sonn

We were supposed to go to a party tonight in the house opposite, but DH, DS and DD are crashed out and I'm in my jim jams. Have celebrated though, with a glass of half wine half orange before I crash too.

Moss - full of admiration for your cleaning stint. I have all these thoughts about cleaning but my body won't co-operate

I'm having to kind of lean back when I sit down now, or else baby wriggles uncomfortably. Anyone else getting that yet?

Also, having to pee continuously as baby is clearly using my bladder as a seat or something .

I had a long hard think about Vit K and decided to go with it, as its risky for the baby not too and I don't think there are any nasty side effects. Ditto with the injection which pops the placenta out.

harktheheraldfoxessing · 31/12/2006 23:03

Diva - hope you get a peaceful night tonight

Well, I'm afraid to say that was the crappest new year I've had in a long time!

Dh drank far too much too fast and went to bed at twenty to midnight after having a moan about how we were old before our time (we're nearly 30 and we're having a baby; we're not about to go out clubbing til the early hours ffs!)

It had been really wet so we didn't have many fireworks, and everyone was having drinks so I came indoors five minutes after midnight.

Now I am on my own trying to comfort one very distressed dog, and another very angry dog! I'm wide awake 'cos I had a sleep to prepare me for this.

Oh well, there's always NYE 2007!!

Hope everyone else had a better night than me - Diva hope yours wasn't too noisy!!

LaidbacktoEnglandsoon · 01/01/2007 05:32

Happy New Year everyone!!! Had a great time last night. Had a friend to stay and we cooked a huge butter fish in a fire pit in the garden. We all then went to the beach and danced until dawn ( the kids lasted until 3 and then I put them to bed in a room in a cabana.) Can't beleive I managed to party hard with such a big bump !!!!

So 2007 finally upon us . 6 days until my container goes to England .... better do some more packing !!!

30 + 1 boy

Rosylily · 01/01/2007 08:31

Well done laidback! Your new year sounds really great! What a woman. And all the best with the rest of the relocation now. You'll have to find new ways to be laidback in England now! I'm sure you'll manage it though!

I was in bed fast asleep by 12 and only up once which is pretty exciting to me....a good sleep is all I wished for Maybe next year I'll be motivated to do something. At the moment I am just incubating and I can only really concentrate on one task at a time

The street party was cancelled in Belfast cuz of terrible weather actually. Its really calm here now though with a pink sky.

eidsvold · 01/01/2007 09:59

glad to hear all is going well.

I managed until about 11pm and I was asleep on the couch. Been very busy with dh home on holidays and we have been busy getting things sorted.

I have been sewing today - making fitted cloth nappies for no3. Have plenty of terry squares but not sure how dh will cope with those and fitted ones are easy to make to thought I would give it a go.

Lots of spd like pain - had this at the end with dd2 but this one seems to be causing it to happen sooner.

Checked out what I had put away from the dds and did a sort out of baby clothes and linen - washed it all. Seemed funny having baby gros on my line again.

otherwise - just tired and cranky - counting the weeks until kindy starts again. Dd1 has been asking everyday to go to kindy and play.

muppetisacat · 01/01/2007 12:59

Happy New Year to you all

Lasted til 1am - as did the kids - drove us all home having been terribly good and not drinking too much and spent eternal hour after eternal hour listening to dh snore his head off...

Add this to my general inability to sleep at the moment and you'll understand why I just burst into tears because the dishwasher needed unloading again...

I swear - if there were some helium balloons floating around... I'd be stamping on them something rotten..

divastrop · 01/01/2007 13:46

moss-sounds like you had as good a new year as me.well,it was ok till 1.40am,dp and i were about to go to bed when next door started with the karaoke(plus the 2 lads were playing out in the back streetbeing very loud).we rang the police and as soon as they left the b*h turned it up even louder, then when theyd finished on the karaoke they put 'music' on really loud(it was so loud in dd2's room the baby monitor sounded like a radio),so we rang the cops again.it got turned down for a while but didnt go off till about 415/4.30 am

needless to say im not happy.i could hear her going on about us through the wall about how we didnt know the rules and thate nvironmental health wont do anything blah blah,oh and she was telling her friend that my dp threatened herand she was going to the police if he did it again.

i think the only option now is going to be either we move or they do
i thought mothers were meant to be responsible ?

this is all doing wonders for my blood pressure,i bet.

glad others had a decent new year

Oh Diva that's awful, you poor thing. It makes me feel violent just thinking about it . So are they sleeping all day today or what? Bloody bastards...

My new year's resolution is to stop swearing BTW

Laidback - your night sounds great!

Eids - I'm going to wash all the baby grows soon - I was just thinking aboit it yesyerday - how sweet they'll all look with their tiny legs dangling from the line .

I'm starting well this year...spurred on by three cups of decaff, too much chocolate and a very loud blast of a Wham CD, I've spent all day decluttering and have filled two bin liners so far [smug grin emoticon]. All I have to do now is adopt this as a lifestyle choice, rather than just something I do once every 2 years ...

kittyinwaiting · 01/01/2007 16:07

Muppet I'm so glad someone else is getting as fed up and short tempered as me

Diva so, so for you.
You know I thought this might happen. She always struck me as a completely unreasonable woman. I think even if they are forced somehow to keep the noise down they night be reprecussions in other areas iykwim.
You and you children need some peace and you need to be especially careful with your bp. Perhaps the only option is to put in for a move. You could always just tell the coucil about your health and how the family is suffering and how you will sue them if it isn't sorted pronto etc. etc. I do hate this age of suing everything that moves, but it has its uses and it might be a useful card to play now.

kittyinwaiting · 01/01/2007 16:12

Foxy, sounds like you're doing well with filling the bin liners. It feel good to do that doesn't it?
I've got to stop bloody swearing too!
I have really started to waddle today, think bump must have grown mightily as I feel myself completely thrown off balance now.

divastrop · 01/01/2007 16:42

ive tried to stop swearing in the past and i find it as difficult as giving up smoking

kitty-i think you are right, tbh im scared of having a newborn baby and living next door to that.im also scared of what i might do to somebody who wakes my newborn baby in the night, cos the only reason i havent gone round there myself is im not risking the baby.

at least everywhere is open again tomorrow and i can start trying to get things sorted.

my bump feels huge and doesnt seem to have anymore room to grow upwards,so i will just be getting larger at the front and less able to breathe

OMG Someone has started a 'Due in September' thread. Where HAS the time gone?

3rdTriMossTer · 01/01/2007 18:05

Diva you poor thing. She sounds like a thoroughly nasty piece of work and a proper meff as well. Did you have any joy finding out who her landlord was?

Hadn't even thought about giving up swearing but that's a really good point! Don't want my lo's first words to be "where the f are my fing keys"!!

Oh I'm dreading going back to work tomorrow. I'm going to go and make five sets of butties for the week now (on Tuesday I need dinner & tea), get my suit organised and have my cash card ready to buy my trio travel pass. That way I can avoid stress in the morning....

I know that when I walk down that corridor I'll feel like I've hardly been away. Still, eight and a half weeks to go........

CallieNewYear · 01/01/2007 19:57

Happy New Year one and all.

Diva - I really hope something gets sorted for you. Sending you lots of sympathy.

Well girls, it's been an eventful 24 hours. I had a phone call from my best friend at 10.30pm last night, who was due on Jan 13, from her hospital bed telling me she had had a baby son the evening before after an emergency Caesarian. The baby was moving much less and she went to the hospital to have a trace done, and they said there were very few movements and it's coming out now! He was only 4lb 15oz so he's in intensive neonatal care atm. Thank god for modern technology. I can't believe she's a mother!

So after that, we went to one of the only two non-cancelled events in the UK in Cardiff city centre and saw in the New Year outdoors in the dry, which lasted until 15 minutes past 12, when the wind and rain arrived - so danced in the rain for 20 minutes under cover of a brolley.

When I got up (late) this morning I found a little bit more blood again, though still not much, but more than last time so I rang the hospital and they said to come in this afternoon. I was fine at first then in the shower started getting really anxious and had a major blub sitting on the edge of the bath, followed by another major blub in the bedroom. Got to hospital and found myself on the heartbeat monitor for about an hour, had a quick internal and all fine so don't know what caused it, although there was a bit of baby dancing last week that may have been responsible! They've taken a swab to check there's no infection so i'm hoping not to hear from them. Incidentally, this is the third bank holiday in less than two years I've spent in hospital - why does it never happen on a work day?

We're now going shopping tomorrow for baby stuff to put my mind a bit more at ease over not having a goddamn thing in the house if the baby did come early. I think it's concentrated DP's mind!

Hope you all had a less stressful NY's Day!

30+4 - please let me make it to 40.

divastrop · 01/01/2007 20:41

callie-glad everything was ok with your baby.how is your friends baby doing,is he breathing on his own?

moss-lol at meff-i havent heard that word for ages.
