Hello all, hope you had lovely Christmases. Am pointlessly back in work this afternoon - nothing happneing and far too many people in. Oh well, may as well get paid to go on MN - can we still use the festive emoticons?

Diva, you poor love with the nightmare neighbour. I'm not a fan of asbos, but seen as they exist, if she keeps it up she'd have to be a contender after being a continual disturber of the peace. Do you know if anyone else has complained?

Moss, let us know how your pram shopping gets on. I haven't been to any sales yet but need to go soon as I've discovered I'm going to need to get more things than I thought. I had a look at my sister's cotbed and there's a bar missing from it and I'm just a bit paranoid about using it even with a replacement bar put in just in case it came out - I'd rather spend the money for a new one and have peace of mind I think. Also it's quite knocked about (drawn on etc) and as it's my first I'd like something clean for the LO!

I had all my family round to mine yesterday. It's been lovely spending time with my sisters' kids and yesterday had the four of them together for the first time this Christmas. One of my nieces keeps cuddling the bump and kissing it and it's so sweet.

I'm 30 weeks today and I've noticed now I'm inverting the weeks - I'm on the countdown rather than count-up when people ask me how far along I am.

Rosy etc re the sweatiness thing, I've actually found the reverse so far, that I seem to sweat much less than I used to, not that I did loads before, I hasten to add!

I'm going to browse the online sales in the absence of anything work-related to do. Now that Christmas is over I feel justified in shopping purely for bump. Ooh, got all excited for a moment there again!!! I was actually quite busy Christmas Day through to today and was a bit concerned the baby didn't seem to be moving as much as it had been, but I think I probably just didn't notice so much, and also I suppose space is running out a bit - I think s/he had a growth spurt at the end of last week.

Oh there we go, some actual work has arrived, so I better go and do it.

30 today (or 10 to go - see above!)

TheBlonde · 28/12/2006 16:31

Hi all!

Hope everyone enjoyed Xmas
We have been ill DS perked up over Xmas but DH & I got sicker and sicker
We have finally returned to London 2 days later than planned

So is anyone making any NY resolutions?

(29 wks)

divastrop · 28/12/2006 17:01

hello.

sponge-nice to see you.i think it should be compulsary for all humans to live in detached houses, then there'd be no problem.

rainbow-hope you had a good xmas and are doing ok x

amie-nipple leakage is perfectly normal at this stage.and can be amusing if the oh gets fruity...

callie-get a new cotbed, its your first baby.i wouldnt be comfortable with the bar missing thing etc either, and time you have that repaired and get a new mattress it probably wouldnt cost much more.

the neighbours were quiet last night thankfully, but tis on my mind all the time and i cant do anything constructive till next week when everywhere opens again.dp thinks we should put in for another transfer but i seriously doubt we'd get anywhere in this area and if the kids had to change schools i'd move out of this town altogether.

i had a clinic appt this morning and my bp was up again so tomorrow i have to go to the ward and stay overnight so they can monitor my bp for 24 hours and get a clearer picture of what its doing before they put me on medication.
i dont want to go

Diva, thanks for the encouragement on the cot front - I am going to take your advice! about your hospital appt but it's better to get it checked than not. And, looking in a purely selfish fashion, means you get 24 hour respite from the neighbours, dp and the children! Take some earplugs and an eye mask, and use it as a chance to catch up on some sleep. Hope it goes ok.

harktheheraldfoxessing · 28/12/2006 21:12

Diva - you poor thing - the noise nuisance can't be doing your blood pressure any good either can it? At least your neighbours are tenants though, so there is a chink of hope that their landlord may pull them into line and enforce their tenancy agreement.

Am back online today with our beloved new DELL PC

My belly button is starting to pop out I noticed this morning. Baby movements are getting quite uncomfortable and am starting to feel as though he will burst the waters by his movements, as I can feel the pressure and weight around my cervix etc.

Am sweatyish too and have an awe inspring amount of vaginal secretions going on too

Still having dreams where I seem to try and bonk everything that moves, but not much action in RL due to general laziness and fear of bleeding.

Am becoming obsessed about placenta previa and can't wait until end of Jan when another scan will tell me whether placenta has moved.

Anyone else worried about financial implications of bump? I'm starting to get all worried about how we'll cope with the cost of three kids, mega mortgage etc.

Oh Joy!!

Rosydingdongmerrily · 28/12/2006 21:46

Fox great you've got the computor now, I've got a dell too. Hee hee so glad I'm not the only sweaty one.

Diva I had to stay overnight for observation with dd and it was like the Jerry springer show in there with all the crazy most belfasty belfast women. Dh sat with me all evening so he could listen to them

divastrop · 28/12/2006 21:47

dont get me wrong-im looking forward to a break from ds and dd1 but they are older and ive spent time apart from them loads of times so one night doesnt matter...its just dd2,ive never been away from her for more than a few hours and never overnight.i want to sneak her in with me.i wonder if i could pass her off as a very large and very advanced newborn

my belly button has never popped?!

OP posts:
divastrop · 28/12/2006 22:00

im hoping they put me on the ward rather than in a side room so i can at least talk to people otherwise i'll go stir crazy

i had to stay in for 3 days when i was expecting ds2 and it was horrible cos i had to leave the other 2 with evil xh and i knew i was going to go home to 3 days of pots in the sink and washing in the bathroom,no housework done, kids not bathed etc etc.at least this time i know the house will be kept in order and the kids wont be left outside the bookies for 20 mins at a time....in fact dp will probably make a point of proving how well he can cope

kittyschristmascrackers · 28/12/2006 22:14

Diva, poor you. Good luck with the hospital. I hope they manage to sort things out for you. I agree that the neighbour situation can't be helping atall.
I had my blood pressure taken by the midwife yesteday it was 100/55. I don't understand what that means, figure underneath seems a little low. Does anyone understand these readings?

Foxy, good to have you back

I did that last of three christmas parties today and now I'm well and truly pooped. I must go to bed now as I've persuaded mother to look after kids whilst I brave the sales in Brighton, so I need my sleep for that

MossletoeAndWine · 28/12/2006 22:43

Mil bought us this one with a different car seat though, one that goes up to four years!

Will catch up with everyone else tomorrow am supposed to be watching a film atm!

evenhope · 29/12/2006 10:22

I've now had 2 nights of bizarre dreams. First one was racing around my home town with a young priest trying to find somewhere to have sex (nothing further from my mind in RL!). Last night I was supposedly at the home of an ex boyf but he was female for some reaon and dating a really hard faced looking dyke. What was that all about?! In both of these dreams I've been at least 20 years younger than I am now and no bump!

DH marched us around London on Boxing Day and i was convinced I was going to have the baby on the street. Everything got very tight and very painful- it was really scarey.

Baby has been quite quiet for a couple of days. She's moving enough that I'm not too worried but not as much as she was. Is this normal?

MossletoeAndWine · 29/12/2006 10:33

Diva sorry to hear about your bp, hope everything's okay for you. Callie is right I suppose, at least it's time away from your neighbour from hell. Can't imagine she is helping your bp either, what a total cow she is.

Callie we were lucky to get a second hand cot that was absolutely lovely, although we practically submerged it in detol anyway just to be sure! But if yours is broken why not get a new one? We are getting everything second hand except the buggy and the car seat, which mil has just bought for us. It's so nice to have at least something new I think!

TheBlonde I'm making two. I don't know enough about babies yet to make any baby-related ones, so mine are:

  1. To avoid getting stressed out by the w**kers I work with and certainly no more stand up rows!
  2. Learn how to cook (I only know one meal atm so I am aiming for five!)

I would say "pass my driving test" but that's a given anyway! Anyone else made any?

Foxy nice to have you back with a brand spanking new computer! As for financial implications: we can afford for me to take six months' maternity leave and then two extra unpaid months, but after that I need to get at least two days' work and mil will look after Bertie on those days. But there is a small chance dh might get a more senior job in that time, so I could take more time off. I would love to be able to take a whole year off, more even, but I know it would put a whole heap of pressure on dh, so I'm not mentioning it and just keeping my fingers crossed it happens!

Kitty:
The higher figure is the blood pressure at the moment when the heart is actually in the middle of the beat. The lower figure is the blood pressure in between beats.

The higher figure is called "the systolic" and the lower figure is called the "the diastolic". The systolic figure is more easily affected by things like whether you are a bit worried or upset at that particular moment.

"Normal" blood pressure is anything up to 120/80 or if you are over 40, 140/90. But if your blood pressure is low, they aren't really that bothered; all it means is you have to be careful when you stand up, because you might faint!!

HTH - mine is always on the low side btw, nearly fainted on the train into work one day, half scared the crap out of me!

AmieR · 29/12/2006 11:00

Diva - hope you get some well needed rest when you're in hospital. Hope all goes well. Thanks for the nipple help!

Moss - Your LO's gonna ahve a funky ride!

Foxy - welcome back with your new PC, hope its treating you well! no extra stress needed, I nearly wanted to throw my work PC out the window yesterday, luckily its security tied down to the desk! LOL

Had a meander around Mothercare quickly and scared myself, all seems very close now. What size is it advisable to get for LO's first clothes? We thought the 7.5lb to 10lb ones, but kinda looked at each other, worriedly!

Also have no idea about what is sensble to get for bathing.. I heard a freind say her 6 week old was almost too big for the baby bath she'd bought... so much to think about, and all I can hear is a ticking clock! LOL breathes

As for the wierd dreams, not had one about sex for a while but did have one where I was growing LO in a tesco plastic bag around my neck, whihc I kept under my jumper, rather than in my womb.

eidsvold · 29/12/2006 11:24

Amie - I just topped and tailed dd1 for ages and then bought one of these for her to go in the big bath. We only lived in a small flat and really had no room for a baby bath.

here in fact I searched everywhere here in Aus to get one to use as well as a top and tail bowl - very hard to find but very practical.

TheBlonde · 29/12/2006 12:09

Amie - with clothes I would go for the 7.5lb upwards ones, if baby arrives and is smaller then you can just send someone out to get a few smaller ones
They grow real quick!

awayinamuppet · 29/12/2006 13:59

Hope everybody had a super christmas and ate double helpings of everything. My cupboards are still full of food and people keep giving me leftovers to take away whenever I visit! I see it as my civic duty to see that no food should go to waste at the moment (mmmm maternity trousers getting bit tight now)

Eids - my parents just back from brisbane - watched jealously as all video footage seemed bright sunshine - they watched some fast plane racing over the river in Brisbane (oops - don't know it's name) but it all looked so lovely.

Diva - hope the bp is just a blip and you leave hospital feeling reassured.

I am another relieved reader to learn that the bodily perfumes are on the increase.

29+6 (boy)

Laidbackinamanger · 29/12/2006 14:15

Hi everyone...hope you all had a goodone (sorry to hear about your neighbours and your bp diva - could there be a link ?)

On the buying front ... I had loads of newborn stuff for my last baby - he was 10 lb 4 and never got to wear any of it !! Just buy a really small amount and then after a week when you feel like going out again, you can go and have a spend up ! I have never had a baby bath or any other equipment really, apart from a sling and car seat. As I have said before...I think most things are gimmicks to panic and make money from anxious parents !!! No steriliser, no baby monitors, ....

Just had some friends to stay here for a few days from the UK.... they left here very broody !

LunarSeasonsGreetings · 29/12/2006 16:34

And don't buy too far in advance and KEEP THE RECEIPTS if you're going to buy small clothes - then you can always exchange them if baby turns out bigger than you expected!

Rosydingdongmerrily · 29/12/2006 16:43

Been to see my lovely friend today and new baby girl. Now I am in a panic as if my bump had no relation to 'a baby' and I can't imagine having a tiny one with a tiny bottom doing meconium poos. So rather than feeling all broody and soppy about babies as I thought I would be, I'm going round in a daze muttering 'oh sht, oh sht, oh sh*t'.......

Rosylily · 29/12/2006 17:18

Names going back is that very dull of me? Diva hope you have some fun and a break in hospital.
My sister has given me bags and bags of baby clothes and baby toys.

My new years resolution is to start getting organised for the baby cuz I've just really realised that I'm having one

kittyschristmascrackers · 29/12/2006 18:00

Hello all, thanks for the info mossy I suppose low bp is better than high bp.

I've gone to the sales today. Got some things for the kids but all the things I liked for me weren't sale tems typical.

I too had a bigger than expected baby last time and loads of stuff was far too small.

I know what you mean abou the 'oh sh*t' Rosy. I'm more anxious about the labour tbh. If I could bypass that bit and just have the baby I'd be happier. Anyway this labour might be slower than the last, you never know, I'm keeping fingers crossed anyway .

My new years resolution is to to try and keep things in perspective and not get too wound up and to be nice to the children

TheBlonde · 29/12/2006 18:05

Glad to hear others are having a bit of "oh gosh I'm having a baby panic"

I keep saying I'll sort out DS's new room, move him to the bed etc in Jan and it's Jan next week

OCalliecomeallyefaithful · 29/12/2006 19:14

Rosy, I was wondering about changing names back too. As you can see I haven't done it yet.

Kitty, it's normal to have lower than usual blood pressure in pregnancy. I've had readings similar to yours for most of it.

NY resolutions - getting the baby stuff I need asap! Ideally starting on the nursery next week, definitely buying some things so I feel a bit more prepared. I've got the MW coming round for home check visit on Tuesday so that should hopefully galvanise me into some kind of action. I feel as if the bump has suddenly bumped up in size again after being the same for a while. Can't believe there's still lots more growing to do. Today when I got to work I had bad pain in my stomach for the first time, but fortunately a few Rennies followed by some food seemed to do the trick. On the bodily complaints front, is anyone else having to poo about five times at least every day???? Hope not TMI - man, I'm looking forward to not spending so much time in the toilet!

Evanhope, I had the same thing for a few days on the movement front with LO, so I think it's just space starting to run out a bit. Having said that s/he's been pretty active today.

It's very lonely here - I'm the only one in . Not planning to stay too late (ie as late as I technically should) though

30+2

OCalliecomeallyefaithful · 29/12/2006 20:04

Oh my god, I've just read a thread about perineal tears and incontinence etc and I'm now sh*ing myself (or rather, hoping I won't be once the baby's arrived...!). WHY did I do that before the baby's arrived??? Now I'm thinking - maybe a Caesarian's not such a bad idea! Tell me it's possible to have a first baby without tearing. I promise I'll pant lots to slow it down coming out, honest.
