Welcome, welcome, welcome to the 41st grads thread... celebrating the success of Just Shagging in getting us viroids upduffed!

For those that don't know, a 'viroid' is from the original JSing thread 1, where someone was trying to type ladies (in reference to all the JSing ladies), but their phone decided to call us all viroids instead!

The name stuck and we've been the JSing viroids ever since.

The 40th grads thread is HERE

The thread we have graduated from is HERE in its 55th outing. WARNING: they're all a bit kerazy not to mention randy!

There is also a Just Mumming thread HERE
for once your babies come along, or to keep up with the graduated graduates!

There is also a private facebook group (so it doesn't give the game away in your news feed!)... if you want to join to see photos of new babies etc, just ask in-thread!

HERE is the stats list, please update your own spot with any updates.

Ooh thanks Pud, that's really useful. It's handy to know how the little things will add up because I have an idea of the big purchases we have to make but I didn't have a clue about all the bits and pieces. I was hoping to get some things from family but my sister lives in a small house with very little storage space so has given everything away and DH's sister is having another baby. Will have to get over my tight northerner ways and buy it all ourselves.
JC sounds like it's all coming together Star for being organised.
Feathered don't worry about the ham. My bump has only just appeared and seems to come and go, before that I just looked chubby.
Hope the poorly viroids are feeling better.

honeysucklejasmine · 15/11/2015 23:03

Fab Pud, great list! I am holding off buying many clothes or other bits until post baby shower. Then will just get last few bits we still need.

Illiria · 15/11/2015 23:18

Thank you Pud really helpful list.

I had already brought a few things before getting bfp, things on sale or that I thought would be discontinued. Few outfits, ikea cat rattle, ikea cat changing mat cover, changing bag. Felt like a loon sometimes but am now glad have them as a lot are discontinued.

ThursdayLastWeek · 16/11/2015 07:46

Morning all! Thank you for all your well wishes, I slept properly last night and feel much better today - although I haven't made it out if bed yet, that could be the real test!

I hope you all had a nice weekend.

Don't worry about the Parma ham.
Bumps vary enormously between women (and indeed pregnancies).
Also other people are idiots who just have. To. Say. Something.

My top tip for when the baby is very new is to have a changing 'station' both upstairs and downstairs. Even if you're not physically wrung out, it'll just be handy Smile.

One good thing about this being baby number two is that we've made all the big purchases and also are so much more confident in what we need/want/like. It's a very different feeling!

jellypi3 · 16/11/2015 08:18

I'm so behind on buying things! We have the pram, the next to me co-sleeper and car seat/isofix. That's it!

Though we've still managed to spend a small fortune on just those bits!

My stomach feels very fragile and tender today. I really hope I've not got a stomach bug because this week is move week!!

pretzelpieces · 16/11/2015 09:20

Ordered my hospital bag shop! Shit's getting real! We cheated by getting almost everything passed along from my sister (one niece). Main thing we've bought is the travel system but I'm wondering if their cot will be up to modern safety standards. It was the one my brother in law used when he was a baby!

Thursday good to know there's an advantage of us living in a tiny flat. We'll never be more than ten paces from the 'changing station'!

pretzelpieces · 16/11/2015 09:21

Oh yeah and today I'm spending all afternoon at the hospital - physio then diabetes stuff but they couldn't get the appointments next to each other. So please chat lots this afternoon to keep me company. I've got to get my blood sugar monitor thingy and I'm pretty down about it.

SkyWasMadeOfAmethyst · 16/11/2015 09:41

Aw pretz sending you a squeeze. Minisky and I are on the mend. I am still tired though.

Peenut · 16/11/2015 10:33

Good tips on being thrifty this morning ladies! I get the best kicks from telling people what bargains I've found rather than how much stuff cost! My best mate says she's got a spare room full of equipment for me to take if I want it. Feel a bit weird accepting it pre 12 week scan, a whole 6 weeks away (not that I have a date for it yet).

Hope you made it out of bed OK Thursday Flowers

Feeling distinctly WEIRD this morning, gippy and delerious. Is it normal for baby brain to set in at 6 weeks? This weekend I have done loads of stupid stuff including popping into work to collect work to do on Sunday in prep for today, then last night realising I had packed a bag with only pencil case and none of the work I needed!

Can I ask if any of you told your 'rents about the pregnancy before your scan? I know DM will be beside herself, maybe too much so. Also, it's early days so don't want to get everyone's hopes up.

Other issue is next time I see my mum she'll be with her DP. Feel weird that he would know before my own dad!

Defo can't cope telling MIL yet, she won't be able to contain herself and I can't handle excessive planning talk before I know all is OK.

fruitlovingmonkey · 16/11/2015 10:41

Pee I didn't tell my rents because I didn't want DH to tell his so it didn't seem fair. My mum made quite a few insensitive comments after my mc so I wasn't too bothered about telling her early anyway. Instead I told a couple of close friends who had been really supportive. They were great and also kept it to themselves DM and MIL wouldn't have been able to

5hell · 16/11/2015 11:08

pee we didn't tell any family until after 12w scan - it was nice to be able to share pics with them immediately; I had told one of my best friends and my boss.

I think it's quite nice to have it as a little secret between you and DH for a while - there's plenty of time for family to get involved & excited from 12w onwards, but it depends on each family I think :)

I know this has probably come up dozens of times, but is there a good shopping list for baby #1 anywhere? I've got the hopsital bag list, but unsure how many babygros etc I need in total at home?!

...we've still bought nothing Shock Smile

FeatheredTail · 16/11/2015 11:17

I'm with 5hell, Pee - it was really nice having a little secret just for me and DH, made us feel very close.

I have been wandering around in a haze of 'bleurghh' since September. Anything is normal Pee!

Great list Pud! One of the partners at DH's firm had twin boys 5 years ago and has offered some second hand stuff to us (apparently 5 year old twin boys has put her off having any more). I'm hoping that because she's a partner she'll be wedged and therefore the baby stuff will be really nice! YEAH!

pretzelpieces · 16/11/2015 11:46

pee we told our parents/siblings only a few days after finding out, but we knew they would all be fairly private about it and I really needed my family's support to get through morning sickness/early preg anxiety. Definitely depends on your individual needs/family.

5hell there is a list floating around, I think largely written by carrot. I'll see if I have it with me.

pretzelpieces · 16/11/2015 11:48

Here it is:
Baby "essentials":

Transport

Car seat
Car seat base if needed
Pram
Sling (optional)

Sleeping
Cot/crib/moses basket/co-sleeper
Matress for the above
Fitted sheets (at least 2)
Blankets (3-4)
Baby sleeping bags if you plan to use them x2

Clothes
Sizing goes either
Newborn (7.5lbs) - Up to 1 Month (10lbs) - 0-3 Months
Or Tiny Baby (7.5lbs) - Newborn (10lbs) - 0-3 Months
Weight is your guide. Only because it says 7.5lbs doesn't mean they won't fit if you baby is slightly heavier - I found my DS still fitted into most clothes even if he exceeded weight limit.
If you know you are having a big baby you can skip the smallest size, but if unsure I would still get it. Maybe don't take it out of the packets in case it's too small.

I'd say you need:
Short sleeved bodysuits (AKA T-shirts with poppers) - 7-10 in each size
Don't buy long sleeved ones, it's hard to put 2 long sleeved layers without one sleeve riding up. They can be useful when you start putting baby in dungarees or sleeveless dresses, but you can always invest in those later if you see the need.
Babygros (onesies) - 7-10 in each size
A couple thin hats
One or two thick outdoor hats
A few cardigans
Socks - yes babygros have them but sometimes if it's chilly you might want to put a bit extra on their feet.
Something for outside - i.e. snowsuit
Don't buy any cute outfits. You'll be given loads.

Feeding
I'm sorry I don't know much about FF. I guess you'd need formula, bottles+teats and a steriliser.
If BF
BF bras
Bf pillow
LANSINOH
Breast pads
Plastic backed bibs
Muslins (we had about 20, which was about enough, but DS was a very sicky baby. You might want to start with 10 and get more later if needed)
You might get a couple of bottles jic.
I would say don't buy a pump until later on if you decide you want to express. For me expressing was a faff tbh.
Some people buy ready made cartons of formula if there are issues with bfing - I didn't though.

Changing
Changing mat (we also put kitchen roll on it so that it's not too cold for baby to lie on and also clean up excess poo)
Nappies - a couple packs of size 1 and 2
Cotton wool and cotton pads - pads are much better for cleaning their bum
Baby wipes if you plan to use them
Nappy barrier (i.e. Sudocream)
Nappy rash cream (i.e. Bepanthen or Metanium)

Playing
Bouncer
Play mat with dangling toys
Don't buy any toys, you'll probably be given loads. Newborns are not really interested in toys to begin with. If you really want to, you can buy black and white book with lines and faces - they like to look at those.

Bathing
Baby bath and/or bath support. You can wash your baby in a sink, but unless you have a huge sink they will grow out of it pretty quickly
Hooded towels - not essential but v useful. Ikea do really good ones.
Sponge (optional)
If you want to use some kind of baby wash/bubble bath, get a soap free one. Def not J&J. We use Oilatum but it's quite expensive.

Misc
Ear thermometer (optional)
Baby scissors
Brush
Dummies if you plan to use them (I would get a couple even if not, you never know, they might save your sanity)
Calpol
Infacol

FOR ME
Foods that can be eaten one handed including fruits

ThursdayLastWeek · 16/11/2015 11:48

We told our families at about 11 weeks - I would have preferred to wait until after the scan, but it must have been a bank holiday or summer hols or something. Both our sisters were down for the weekend, and it seemed like the right time while we could tell everyone to their faces.

I'm out of bed - not straying too far from the loo though Sad

Why does my boss only ever walk into my office unannounced when I'm shoveling some strong flavoured food at an inappropriate time? wipes mexican rice salad off chops

Amazing list - very helpful Pretz!

Which would people recommend out of a moses and a chicco/co-sleeper? Moses baskets look lovely, but I appreciate the chicco's might be more practical.

Thursday Sad sending wellness vibes your way.

5hell · 16/11/2015 13:05

thanks pretz/carrot ! ..had defo forgotten a few things on there, particulary thermometer and lansinoh

slightly humiliating moment of the day (whilst getting dressed this morning)...
DH: oh look you're getting that nigra line thing
ME: no I dont think I am
DH: yeah you know the dark line on your stomach
ME: no, that's just hair
DH: no it cant be, I cant remember what it's called but I can see it
ME: yes I know what you mean - linea nigra, but that's skin pigment and this is just hair! Blush

welcome stomach beard!

pretzelpieces · 16/11/2015 13:11

Haha 5hell that gave me a giggle. Bless him, he was obviously really chuffed to remember what it was called as well!

Physio done, got a new set of exercises to do! Midwife not till 2pm but I'm waiting here already just in case. I've got a book and zero concentration span! I think everyone's on lunch cause I've never seen it so quiet in antenatal. That makes it sound like I spend my life here (because I do).

Peenut · 16/11/2015 13:15

Tee hee, Hairy tummies 5hell! So the hair is a new thing? I say embrace it in a seventies boosh type of way.

Thanks for tellin' the 'rents advice guys. I think my instinct is to want to tell them but it's just too soon I think and I know what DM is like. I casually mentioned we might be TTC hence me not being able to go on holidaywith her next year and I discovered she'd told my aunty dad and brother. Actually. What was I thinking? Clearly I need to keep this under the radar!

Just eaten excessively large lunch, ah! Pukey feeling is gone! Rubs eyes and begins work for the day

What a list Pretz. Yikes. Better get saving.

TriJo · 16/11/2015 13:45

We waited until we saw both sets of parents face to face to tell them - 14 weeks for my DH's parents because he was going to Ireland for a weekend to visit them, 16 weeks for mine because they were coming to London to visit us. Gave them a bit of a surprise, but they were all happy and there were many calls to other relatives that we wanted to know directly from us and not through the grapevine or social media.

We ordered our buggy on Saturday - good to get something out of the way! Will probably do a lot more shopping in January for the little one, and we'll probably end up getting some baby stuff as Christmas presents.

FeatheredTail · 16/11/2015 15:28

5hell that cracked me up!!

I was watching OBEM with DH a few months ago and there was a lady with a stomach beard on. DH's face was priceless. "What is wrong with her stomach.....???? Why is..? What? OH GOD IT'S REALLY HAIRY! Is that normal? No, it can't be normal....it is? It is normal??? WILL IT BE AS HAIRY AS MINE??"

Hahahahaah!

Prams/buggies confuse me. A lot. Which did you go for Tri?

honeysucklejasmine · 16/11/2015 15:33

We told parents quite early as both sets new about miscarriage and were anxiously hoping we'd concieve again soon. I think because of the MC I was happy for people to know as I would want their support if it happened again.

Thanks for list Pretzel!

pretzelpieces · 16/11/2015 15:41

As I said carrot wrote most of the list so I can't take credit! Just pulled it out of the murky depths of my smart phone.

I've got the things. I've got to do finger prick blood tests with this machine 4 times a day and carry that and a mini sharps bin around with me. She made me do the first one in front of her! It hurts! I'm a massive wimp who clearly won't cope with labour. At. All. And now I'm sort of under two consultants as well as having physio so I might as well pitch up to the bloody hospital with a tent. And I've got to miss one of my last volunteering shifts for one of my appointments because they only run the clinic that one afternoon. BIG OLD WAHHHH FACE Sad

Thanks for indulging me. Currently eating two donuts a donut I'm not allowed to have. I know, I know. I'm a terrible mum already.

TriJo · 16/11/2015 16:34

We went for the very inexpensive end of the market and got the Mothercare Roam in red. £249 on promotion this week, includes the car seat and we got the Isofix base too.

fruitlovingmonkey · 16/11/2015 17:22

Aww pretz sounds like you've earned it Cake
I'm going to see Spectre tonight. Haven't been to the cinema in ages. DH has already seen it but he's humouring me.
