southy a dose of natural yoghurt after eating worked wonders for me, but might just have passed anyway as that was after a few days and no problems since.

frozen I can't believe they are so organised! Do you know when you plan to start your leave? I have NO idea when/how long before to go and to be honest can't stop worrying about what happens with my job. I directly manage a team and a busy centre and am worried about who will be able to do things in a way I'll want to come back to....

frozensmoothie · 11/12/2015 10:44

My work aren't usually this organised! I'm planning go off in mid-April as I'll take a weeks holiday before the maternity starts. I guess by the time they advertise, interview, the person has to give a month's notice and then we have some cross over for a handover, they will probably need to advertise mid-late January which is quite scary! It will be advertised as an internal secondment and there are a few people who I think will go for it.

I'm worried about going and coming back too, I've done my job for over 7 years and I was the first person to do it as it was a new role when I started. I feel like I've shaped and grown the job over the years so it will be very strange to let go of all control and have someone else do it. It will also be strange to come back and pick it back up a year later when someone else has been doing it their way (but I'll have to come back for financial reasons!)

cantbelieveImquittingcoffee · 11/12/2015 13:20

I suppose it varies in different jobs but I was originally thinking to work to mid April (am due 5th may) but some people have suggested that is cutting it really fine. I just don't know what is normal!! I suppose it's a balance between allowing yourself time to rest/ get prepared and maximising your time post- birth if you are going back to work after a set time.
DP and I agreed this morning that I will take a year off as he doesn't want the baby left too young (thankfully!!) but I am still unsure about when to stop work. I'm postponing thinking about it too much until January!!

frozensmoothie · 11/12/2015 13:42

I'm hoping to work until 38 weeks so I have more time at the other end when the baby is here, and also if I go overdue. It's so difficult to plan too far ahead though, as no idea how I will feel in the later stages! I was born at 34 weeks so fully expecting that anything might happen which makes it even harder to plan.

I've got a 1.5 mile walk to work and no alternative way of getting here so it will also depend on how long I can keep up with the walking, although I'm able to work from home too. I'm planning on taking the full year too Smile

ODog · 11/12/2015 15:09

I finished at 35 weeks (some of this was holiday I needed to use) last time and then went 10 days over. I actually really enjoyed having that time to myself. I had a couple of jobs to do every day, batch cooked freezer meals, did aquanatal classes, met up for long lunches with the nct ladies, got my nails done. I always look back on that time fondly (apart from the 10days I went over - that was torture!). Due to the holiday I had to use I ended up going back a few days after DS's birthday. I guess as I was only going back 2 days per week and I was taking the full year I wasn't too worried about a few more weeks the other side.

I will be stopping at a similar time this time, but this time it will be to spend some lovely 1:1 time with DS for the last ever time sob.

Lots of my nct group planned to work all the way up but stopped earlier than planned for lots of different reasons.

Nicky333 · 11/12/2015 16:29

I have absolutely no idea when I'll be stopping and no idea how long I'll be off for. Not even thought about it yet.

When I'm off, and the baby's asleep, I'll be spending as much time as I can trying to build up my papercutting business ( www.folksy.com/shops/GreenBeansandGinPapercuts ) and hoping that I might be able to manage on just that Wink

cantbelieveImquittingcoffee · 11/12/2015 19:15

Someone I know through work whose wife just had their first baby advised me (knowing the company well) to finish earlier than I think I want to, as they don't really make allowances in terms of letting you taper things off gently, so that's been on my mind!
Don't blame you with the walk frozen! Though taking the tube into central London will possibly have some impact on how long I can keeping going as it's pretty unpleasant at the best of times!
odog have had fantasies of a similar kind of time so might have to try and ensure I actually do have some time off!!
nicky I wish I had a similar plan, sounds perfect!

Discofairypants · 11/12/2015 20:17

Hi ladies! Busy few days so just had a read back.

I personally wouldn't even consider a home birth ... Last time I was very low risk and 'normal' but ended up with horrendous complications which required emergency treatment and Neonatal care. I hate to think what would've happened had I been at home. Again, I'm most certainly not wanting to scare monger and there are always horror stories either way but if you have a fair way to travel to the hospital, I'd seriously consider your options. I say that in the nicest way possible, honestly!

I'm planning to finish Mid April, to have time with DD and make sure we are all organised and ready! Excited!

PearlyFish · 11/12/2015 20:47

I'm planning the same as ODog, to go off about 35 weeks, which for me will be about Easter I'm not counting down already, oh no

Last time I planned to stop at 38 weeks but revised that later in pregnancy and bought it forward to 36 weeks. I'm sure it's generally fine to work later but in my case I had to move house at about 38 weeks due to a nightmare neighbour so I really needed that time to sort out the move.

Anyone else having nosebleeds? I've only ever had nosebleeds during pregnancy and usually v tiny ones, but today had quite a big bleed during a meeting and had to sit with my head between my knees for a bit!

GrouchyKiwi · 11/12/2015 20:48

I planned to finish at 36 weeks with DD1 but ended up being signed off at 24 weeks. 3 months of bed rest sucked. I did get to be a normal pregnant woman for that last month and that was very useful for getting things ready and taking a little holiday with DH.

PearlyFish · 11/12/2015 20:54

Re homebirth - I had one for my first and although I'm sure they can go well sometimes for first timers I think they generally result in people transferring in. I did give birth at home but was quite traumatised by it (badly positioned baby, back labour and could have done with some decent pain relief), and had to go to hospital afterwards due to meconium in the water and needing a doctor to do the repair job on me.

For subsequent labours I would say go for it, especially if you are close to a hospital. I felt very monitored and safe and as if there would have been a quick response to any issues.

PearlyFish · 11/12/2015 20:57

Cross post, sorry to hear that Grouchy. Hope you don't have the same issues this time round.

GrouchyKiwi · 11/12/2015 21:10

Thanks, Pearly. It didn't happen again with DD2 and thankfully there's little reason to worry about it for this pregnancy. DD1 was very keen to meet us from 24 weeks onwards but thankfully managed to stay put till her due date!

Mamama31 · 11/12/2015 21:23

Hi ladies great news on finding out baby's gender!!! It's so exciting isn't it! Since I found out we are having a boy I've went mad shopping I can't even stop myself soon as I see a cute boys thing I buy it!! We are going to put a deposit on a pram in January as well, it still seems early but I do like to be organised. I had a midwife app on wed as I had to repeat bloods due to an unticked box on previous blood forms bit I didn't mind as midwife let me listen to baby's heartbeat again and it's so reassuring to hear!

My sickness has really improved but I feel massive, I am eating ALOT! And my love for chocolate has returned just in time for Christmas. I have a very obvious bump now, are you all the same? I'm apparently 19 weeks tomorrow but that's a week ahead from what we think we are, I will be dated properly on 30 Dec at the 20 week scan but I'll be way past 20 weeks by then!

I Can't believe how quickly time is passing now after the first 12 weeks feeling like a lifetime.

I am starting a pregnancy yoga class in January but it's kind of a mix of yoga, relaxation and preparation for birth run by a midwife who also practices antenatal yoga. Really looking forward to it but worried I am not flexible at all so hope it is not too taxing!

ODog · 11/12/2015 21:43

All the shopping sounds lovely mama - really enjoy it.

Not sure they will re-date you at the 20 week scan. I actually had a convo with the sonographer at the 12week scan as the date further ahead to what I was told at 8 weeks. They were saying that babies grow fairly consistently up to 12ish weeks but are too small to get accurate measurements before 10/11 weeks. After 12 weeks they grow at different rates (ie why some term babies are 6lb and some are 11lb). Hence the only time to get accurate dating measurements is around 12weeks. Hence they stick with your 12 week dates regaress of subsequent measurements. Hope that makes sense.

Mamama31 · 11/12/2015 22:39

Oh really odog! I've been told all along I won't get my due date until 20 week scan. I had an emergency scan last week after a bit of bleeding again and scan showed I was 17+5 I said that's a week ahead of what we thought and again I was told they will date me at 20 week scan properly! so I'm interested to see what they come up with as I have no idea now

ODog · 12/12/2015 07:32

Maybe it varies hospital to hospital then but that's just what I was told. I'm taking mine with a pinch of salt anyway as I learnt last time that babies show up when they want and not when they ought to. They booked induction at dating scan in my area so I'm just aiming to avoid that which is 16th may.

Mamama31 · 12/12/2015 10:25

Odog I'm the same however my son did surprise me right on his due date last time! Haha! Must have been a good guess on their part! I just want to know what date they will give me so I can plan when to begin maternity leave as I want to take at least a weeks holidays beforehand, I'd prefer more time off on the other side I think

PearlyFish · 13/12/2015 13:04

Shopping sounds fun Mama! Has knowing the sex helped you pick a name yet? 19+2 here and yes I do have a clear bump, although it's still hideable under a baggy jumper.

It's quiet on here this weekend, hope everyone is well and enjoying the run up to Christmas! Xmas Smile

Has anyone got a scan booked for next week? My 20 week scan isn't until the 23rd dec.

frozensmoothie · 13/12/2015 14:29

Shopping sounds lovely mama I was also told that the due date wouldn't change after the 12 week scan.

Been busy with Christmas shopping this weekend, almost done now!

I have my 20 week scan on Tuesday morning, looking forward to it but also feeling nervous.

Me and DP also decided to get married before the baby's born. We've been together 14 years and not been bothered about weddings/marraige but we want to get things tied up legally/financially before baby arrives. We'll just go for a quick registry office job with a couple of witnesses and have a proper celebration once the baby is here (and I can drink!!) just need to get the ring now Smile

ParsnipSoup · 13/12/2015 16:12

Congratulations Frozen! Have you set a date yet? Were you already kind of planning to get married or is it a completely new idea for you both?

I'm doing the opposite and trying to get divorced before baby arrives. Ex had been stalling for ages and now it's actually important to get it sorted. I don't want to be married to someone who isn't the father of my child when it's born Confused

ODog · 13/12/2015 19:29

Congrats frozen.

I've had a very hectic weekend. Had I laws here yesterday and at my mums with all her family today. Been a bit much for DS really and he's in a bit of a state from all the busyness. His sleep has been a nightmare for a while lately but it's been especially bad this weekend. Think he's trying to drop his nap but he still needs it so gets in a bit of a state of he doesn't have it or has it and then won't sleep until 10pm. Nightmare. He's only 18mo so still way too little to be dropping a nap if you ask me I need him to keep napping . It's all done and out of the way now though as we are skiing all over Xmas and new year.

We have our scan on Friday. Feeling much more relaxed than I was when I had DS but still not 100% if we will find out the sex. Will probably make a decision on the day.

frozensmoothie · 14/12/2015 12:01

Thanks! We've not set a date yet but plan to give notice at the Registry office at some point in the next few weeks, so will probably be some time in Feb depending on availability. We've always planned to get married at some point, but are both introverts and hate the idea of weddings and being centre of attention and all the expense and stress! We're terrible at organising and getting round to things, and are also the least romantic people ever!

Good luck with the divorce Parsnip hope it comes through before baby is born.

Hope the scan goes well on Friday ODog. Will report back on mine tomorrow. Starting to feel nervous so trying to distract myself today.

cantbelieveImquittingcoffee · 14/12/2015 14:12

Yay congrats from me too frozen! We're not married either and people keep asking if we will do it now though right now I can barely keep from throwing him through a window most days but we're a few years behind you so maybe a bit further down the line!
Exciting about your 20 week scan tomorrow too - are you out first in the gang?
I keep kidding myself that I won't be nervous this time, just excited, but considering I absolutely crapped myself before our previous scans ( plural - because of the harmony test and 2 extra private scans) I think it's more likely that I will be nervous too - it's just because we want everything to be ok! Mine is right after Christmas, had to change the original appointment date from 21st dec because of the dreaded flight to France to spend Christmas with the inlaws!

GunShotResidue · 14/12/2015 14:20

Congrats frozen!

We have our private scan on Saturday to find out the sex, I'm so excited. Mostly to see baby again as, although I'm being kicked a lot, it still doesn't seem real! Worth DD I felt rubbish for most of the pregnancy, so I think it's just because I feel fairly normal.

ODog DD's currently refusing a nap. She's 2 next month and really needs the sleep or she gets very moody! Enjoy skiing!

I'm 17+4 and seem to have a huge bump, slightly panicked about how big I'll be by may!
