Rosie you're supposed to measure from the top of your uterus which obviously grows and moves. At the moment it should be about level with or just above your belly button I think. You measure from there down to the top of your pubic bone. To find the top of your uterus you're supposed to be able to feel a hard ridge but I'm not convinced I can find mine! There's some instructions with pictures here www.wikihow.com/Measure-Fundal-Height

hayleycookie · 17/11/2015 12:25

Rosie I have to have a growth scan at 34 weeks, but I'm seeing it as a positive too lol Most people only get two scans, and we get to see our baby more!

hayleycookie · 17/11/2015 12:34

Pug A stranger asked me if I had long left the other day, and practically fell over when I told her I was just over half way. I didn't think I was that big, but apparently others do! I'm getting bump stares from the random public now too. Hoping it's all in the belly and not in my face!

Trinpy · 17/11/2015 12:53

Hello everyone!

Glad to hear Flump is still staying put Missi.

Hope you feel better soon Indom. That sounds really nasty.

Ds has kindly given me his stomach bug. I was up sick all night and I'm now exhausted and my throat is bleeding Confused. I'm threatening no more toddler group for ds because I'm sure that's where he's picking up all these nasty bugs. Anyway, another day of heavy reliance on cbeebies in the Trinpy household!

IndomitabIe · 17/11/2015 13:03

Ooh, Trinpy, that sounds worse, you poor thing.

If it's any consolation it's not, I know, each bug you both get is another one you'll develop immunity to! It'll all pay off eventually. hopefully

How insensitive of them, Hayley!

Rosieblossom123 · 17/11/2015 13:23

Pug that's a very handy link, thanks hun :) I might try that at home tonight, I can feel the top of my uterus but never thought of measuring it haha

Hayley that's how I see it too :) It's always good to check up on baby from time to time. I also keep getting bump stares from random people creeps me out sometimes Confused

TheMshipIsBack · 17/11/2015 14:55

Anyone else booked for their whooping cough jab yet? I have a 28w midwife appointment, was just thinking I ought to phone and see if I can get the jab done the same day.

Hayley I'm just about at the point where I feel comfortable taking the priority seats on the bus and am perfecting my "I'm pregnant and my hips hurt you bastard" glare, complete with ostentatiously displayed bump through the gap in my coat where I can no longer do up the buttons.

Rosieblossom123 · 17/11/2015 15:13

Mship I'm taking mine at my 28week appointment, so on the 14th December!

Me624 · 17/11/2015 15:22

My bump isn't visible through my coat at all which is annoying on public transport! I have my 25 week check next week but I'm going to have a go at measuring tonight too!

Top tip for others: do not buy M&S maternity tight. I bought some at the weekend and am wearing them today for the first time - they will NOT stay up over my bump! Then they roll down further and further until the crotch is practically round my knees. I have had to keep nipping to the loo at work to sort them out!

Trinpy · 17/11/2015 15:29

Thanks indom that does help - at least I know I never have to experience this particular virus again!

When do we have to get the whooping cough jab? Is it anytime after 28 weeks?

TheMshipIsBack · 17/11/2015 15:49

Trinpy Yes, any time after 28 weeks. I'll be 28+3 at my 28w appointment so just figured to get it done then.

ThePug · 17/11/2015 16:28

Thanks for the reminders about the whooping cough jab; I've got an appointment at 28w exactly for my anti-D so wonder if they'll do it then. Saying that, the nurse at my GP surgery who did my flu jab was talking about seeing me down the line for the WC jab, so maybe it's done at the normal surgery not via midwife.

None of my normal coats do up anymore, but my maternity ones are still like tents! I have a Barbour which I wear a lot which has a two way zip - if I breathe in I can just get the zip done up and then quickly unzip from the bottom so it's just zipped up on my top half. Have to repeat to take off though and I'm sure one day soon I'm going to get stuck in it!!

IndomitabIe · 17/11/2015 16:52

On coats: my coat doesn't go round me now (22 weeks tomorrow), so am well and truly into DHs coats!

Just seen a very sympathetic nurse practitioner. She said it could get better or worse over the next 3 days and that I should deffo stay home and rest tomorrow. I could have hugged her.

Every time the paracetamol's working I feel a bit of a fraud being at home, it's not that bad. Then it wears off and I remember why I stayed home this morning!

MyNameIsSuz · 17/11/2015 17:05

I'm having a vague memory about the whooping cough vaccine - I can't quite remember but I'm pretty sure the midwife told me to book it along with my 28 week appointment, and that if I told the receptionist I needed both they would be able to schedule the two appointments together. So at my place I don't think the midwife does it. She didn't do the flu vaccine either though, I got a surprise flu jab from the nurse when I took ds for his!

And I've been in my maternity coat for a while - hated it at first as it's really not my style but am now appreciating how warm it is! There was a maternity coat thread on here a couple of weeks ago where loads of people piled in saying what a waste of money it was and you could carefully arrange scarves with a normal coat... I resented spending the money too but now it's properly wet and windy I feel it was definitely worth it!

Crispylicious · 17/11/2015 18:03

me totally agree about the m&s tights! I had to get DH to bring me some leggings as they were literally around my knees (and pulling my pants down..). We really should complain to them - they're not cheap! Can anyone recommend any good ones?

Sorry you're poorly indom and trin. It's totally miz when all you can take is paracetamol.

I LOVE my maternity coat. Best buy ever! I couldn't do up my normal one and this one is lovely and warm.

For the first time yesterday, I chucked someone out of a priority seat on the train! He gave me evils but moved. You sit in a priority seat, you're fair game mate!

missi pleased flump is staying put. It must be so v frightening. I hope you've got lots of box sets and other distractions.

We're transferring hospitals (to the one with lovely private rooms..), so have another booking in appt next week. I'm actually looking forward to it, as at the last booking in we didn't know if the pregnancy was viable, so it was all a bit stressful.

ThePug · 17/11/2015 18:18

Ooh well done on the seat-snatching Crispy What did you say? I have go to to London in 2 weeks time so need to get up to speed on the etiquette!

Missikat · 17/11/2015 18:19

Matalan do some good cheap maternity leggings and jeggings, I'd recommend them although sizing is crazy. I'm a 14-16 pre preg and had to get size 12s!

Having a bit of a nightmare with entertainment as TV here is £20 per week which I really resent paying (also am totally broke this month so can't even really afford it although gonna crack tonight I think). Plus wifi is really expensive £6/day and download limits tiny so couldn't even watch Netflix i don't think. Such a rip off. Need to get DH to download me some stuff at home and bring to me on a hard drive (but he's also a technophobe so when I suggested this he kinda looked at me like....what??

Any of you have any other bright ideas for entertainment?

ThePug · 17/11/2015 18:31

Missi that is so expensive! Do you have a kindle, or can you borrow one? I've had one for about 4 years, read a bit most nights but have never paid for a book. The free books are pretty trashy but most are perfectly readable.

What's the mobile signal like on the ward? If it's ok, could you find a cheap data deal for a dongle (or sim for ipad) so you can do more internet browsing/watching stuff online?

Any update from the doctors today?

Me624 · 17/11/2015 18:40

Missi that's outrageous! At my hospital there is free wifi provided by the friends of the hospital charity, which I think is fab. I only found this out when I was in with DH recently. Not sure about speeds though, I agree with Pug that a dongle is probably your best bet - you can often get a data deal quite cheaply now. When we moved house and before we got internet installed i got a GiffGaff sim for my iPad, I think it was 500mb for £5 a month but you weren't tied into a contract so I cancelled after a month. Mind you 500mb won't last you too long if you're watching lots of TV.

Missikat · 17/11/2015 18:46

Thanks for suggestions, yeah it's crazy isn't it! I do have a kindle so I'm going to get my mum to sort some books on it via the wifi at home then she can bring in.

I don't have an iPad of tablet but have got my work netbook which hopefully could get a dongle for, but again the data doesn't last long if watching TV shows. I just presumed there'd be free wifi!

Missikat · 17/11/2015 18:48

Drs have said no more, just pleased I've still not delivered! The dr today did actually tell me about a lady in a bed opposite a little while ago who came in in similar situation at 23 weeks, at 32 weeks they let her go home, then she delivered at 34. I'm hoping to be one of them! Maybe home for Christmas would be perfect?!

TheMshipIsBack · 17/11/2015 19:14

missi wouldn't that be lovely? Home for the holidays with a happy flump settled in for the long haul.

No idea if this is going to work (posting image from phone) but I wanted to show you the trousers I made for a friend's DS.

March 2016 #6, we're just breeding here!
Missikat · 17/11/2015 19:26

Wow love them!!!! How clever are you?!

IndomitabIe · 17/11/2015 19:32

Missi glad you're all good physically. Are you in a 3/4G area? It would probably be cheaper to ring your network and upgrade to unlimited data for a couple of months. If you've got an iPhone you can use it to make a wifi hotspot for whatever other device. (Presumably android phones also have this function).

TheM those are cute trousers. Well done!
