Hope you got some sleep Suz and your DS feels a bit better today xx

I'm glad you've seen the GP, Ginger. Anxiety is soul-destroying and I can see a huge difference between this pregnancy of mine and the last one. It sounds obvious but it really is so much more pleasant living without the constant worry. Hope you get things sorted xx

Missikat · 15/11/2015 08:00

mynameis, hope your little man is feeling better today, it's really awful when they're sick isn't it, so scary.

Marmite, hope Dd is on the mend too. It's this horrible time of year isn't it?

Ginger, I'm really glad you have finally got a referral to help you with your anxiety, it sounds so debilitating for you and like you really need some specialist help for it. Please try and not feel guilty, the way you feel is not your fault and just because other people have difficult things going on doesn't take at all away from the way you are feeling. Has the dr said that the anti anxiety meds could be dangerous for baby? I would have thought that you'd be better off taking them to hopefully help you feel better as long as they're safe. Having DH say he felt baby kicking is a great sign! If your placenta is anterior it definitely will explain the less movement you're feeling (remind me is fundal low or high? Or somewhere else?). I'm sure within the next couple of weeks you'll be feeling her all the time which should hopefully ease some of your worry. Big hugs xxx

Neh, NCT is a great way to meet other (often very like minded) parents, especially if you don't know many people in the area. My group was s bit of a dud but one couple are some of my best friends now 2.5 years on so just for meeting them it was so worth it. I've also met lots of other mums who did it and I have become friends by proxy with all their NCT group mates! I did a weekend course, it's definitely better to do one over a few weeks to get to know people better, I think that was partly why ours didn't jell so well.

MyNameIsSuz · 15/11/2015 08:41

Oh yes, nct was definitely worth it for us! My group all got on well and really needed each other in the early days, I think we met up every day at the start! A couple of families have moved away now but I still see them sometimes and the others regularly, three years on.

It's not a guarantee, and there are other places to meet people - I also have a nice group from pregnancy yoga, who I went on to go buggyfit with. Our area also runs postnatal sessions, but my group for that was a bit of a dud.

marmiteandcheeseplease · 15/11/2015 09:30

My NCT group was also a bit of a dud but mostly as there were 7 weeks before first and last baby so we didn't meet up for ages! Also half my group were a bit rubbish at meeting up. I still see them every month or so though, and the mum I'm closest to is also pregnant, due 6 weeks after me, so will be nice to know someone else on leave. I really struggled to meet other mums when on mat leave last time but I think that was partly as I only took 6 months and also that I didn't go to that many groups as was too nervous. This time I'm definitely going to make more of an effort/put myself out there!

IndomitabIe · 15/11/2015 09:38

We couldn't afford NCT, and there isn't a course run out here in the sticks anyway! My best friends here are two I met at the local children's centre breastfeeding support group. Our boys are all at school now, and we still meet up regularly (we all ran together every week over summer).

So don't worry if you're not doing NCT, there are other ways!

BeautifulLiar · 15/11/2015 09:40

Same here then marmite, I'm really going to try get to groups this time! It'll probably be better with DD2 there to hold my hand, as I'm guessing newborns just sleep through them...

RhubarbAndMustard · 15/11/2015 09:54

My NCT group was great. The classes weren't anything to write home about, but out of 7 couples, we are still close to 3 of them 4 years later and meet up regularly. One friend I see most weeks. If you can get on a course I would definitely recommend it for that reason alone.

neh205 · 15/11/2015 09:55

Really looking forward to NCT & planing to get out there & join groups too. Glad to hear some nice friendships have come out of your experiences.

Suz hope your little one is feeling better today.

I'm going to give midwife a call tomorrow as have been feeling a bit itchy. Mostly eyes, stomach, toes & ankles it's not horrendous but not pleasant either!

Also think I'm going to switch hospitals as well as our local one doesn't have a great reputation. Has anyone else done this? I'm assuming you keep the same midwife but scans and hospital appointments change too. Or do you change midwife as well?

Hope everyone has a nice relaxing Sunday ahead :)

Me624 · 15/11/2015 10:22

I'm starting NCT in January. Hoping to meet some nice mums though DH is not too keen - he says he "has enough friends"! I'm lucky though in that out of my closest friends, 1 is due this week and 1 is due about 2 weeks before me - so I will already have some close friends in the same boat as me.

Trinpy · 15/11/2015 10:26

I hope your ds feels better today Suz.

My ds was sick during the night (such fun being woken up at 3am to mop up vomit Hmm) but luckily he's back to his usual self today, just off his food.

I didn't go to nct classes butmade a group of friends through a baby group

Trinpy · 15/11/2015 10:29

Pressed post too soon!

...and we still meet up every 1-2 months. But my friend and my SiL both did nct 2 years ago, really loved it and also still meet up with everyone in their group.

neh205 · 15/11/2015 11:32

Ahhh loving all the nct positivity!

I'm fully of questions today too. Apart from itchiness and moving hospital was also wondering if anyone had any recipe /snack tips to share?

I'm veggie so have been trying my hardest to up my omega & iron intake during pregnancy. Think I'm doing ok at the moment but have got into a bit of a food routine & should probably mix it up a bit. So any meal or snack ideas welcome.

At the moment im snacking most days on apricots & bananas and also enjoying spinach soup a lot!

My only craving at the moment seems to be milk - I'm drinking it in gallons!

IndomitabIe · 15/11/2015 11:43

neh, I wouldn't call myself a veggie, but normally eat very little meat. The last few weeks though I can't get enough! Sorry, not helpful.

As for snacks, I'm sitting next to a humongous bar of dairy milk right now... That's not what you meant, is it?!

Correction: was sitting next to it.

Spatone for iron, though.

IndomitabIe · 15/11/2015 11:44

Ooh, I'm going to make myself a badge for "most useless post on a thread"!

BeautifulLiar · 15/11/2015 11:49

Haha Indom!

I was veggie when pregnant with my first and ended up eating meat at around this point, sorry!

Me624 · 15/11/2015 12:06

I'm veggie too neh but I'm afraid I haven't been nearly as good as you. I am relying on iron supplements to keep my iron levels up and I haven't been keeping a close eye on my diet really (I know I should!) and have just been eating normally which usually means toast for breakfast, a yoghurt mid morning, some kind of salad for lunch and then an evening meal which is usually some kind of risotto, curry, chili etc. I do try and get a lot of veg into the evening meal (especially as we have vegetable boxes delivered so I always have lots to use up!) but if I'm hungry during the day then I tend to eat chocolate or crisps as a snack - not great I know!

IndomitabIe · 15/11/2015 12:42

Me that sounds like an entirely reasonable diet. And there's no "good" or "bad" about taking supplements.

I've eaten more meat this week than I usually do in a month (or more) but I wouldn't rely on it for iron. I'm on the boots multivitamin daily and the odd Spatone too. I'm not waiting to feel terrible or for a blood test!

I am, however, 'chubbing-up'! DH has just pointed out my boobs are much bigger than last time (as I dug out my old nursing bras, big enough for those engorged days, which are currently slightly tight!). Maybe I should rein the eating in a bit. Or maybe not "stocking up" enough was my downfall last time?

I don't want to worry about my weight/size. (Although I have just pinched my arms to confirm they're no different!).

I'm going to go with the idea (for now) that my body is doing this thing better this time, and my (two-fried-eggs-on-an-ironing-board) boobs have jumped right back at what they excelled at! (I could have fed an entire neonatal ward!)

And after - I'll go back to running again! And ab-ripper, lots and lots of ab-ripper! (Need to be back in my work clothes by July!).

maybebabybee · 15/11/2015 13:35

Weird question but is anyone not taking their prenatal vitamins? I took folic acid for the first three months but gave up on anything after that as the vitamins made me feel so sick. When I spoke to my GP she said that as long as I was getting a healthy diet and I had taken my folic acid, it would be fine, but wondered if anyone else was doing the same? I get a lot of judgement for it!!

MyNameIsSuz · 15/11/2015 13:46

I'm struggling with it maybe - they've made me really sick this time, so on the days when I've taken them, most of the time I've thrown them back up. I think it might be the brand though - with ds, pregnacare had this effect and I switched to the Centrum ones which were fine. This time I stocked up on the Centrum ones and they're not agreeing with me. I have been feeling guilty about it, though I managed more in the first trimester and that's when it's most important. Yesterday I finally found a shop selling the pregnacare liquid so am trying that, it definitely stayed down so fingers crossed.

OP posts:
IndomitabIe · 15/11/2015 14:09

I stopped after 12 weeks last time as I was convinced they were making me feel sick. This time I took the boots ones with ginger, last thing at night, and have continued. I've felt so much better this time - but I think it's coincidence!

hayleycookie · 15/11/2015 15:52

I'm on pregnacare. I struggled with taking it regularly while I had morning sickness. Tried taking it at different times of day to see if it made a difference but it didn't. I missed it a lot in early pregnancy, but since the sickness died down I've been taking it religiously. I'm borderline anaemic at every appointment so I mostly take it for the iron and folic acid. Last pregnancy I had the pregnacare breastfeeding ones as well for about 6 months after I had ds, but don't know if I will bother this time.

Most other mums I know didn't bother with any vitamins or anything through the whole pregnancy. I think it's a personal choice. No judgment if people don't take them :)

Paperblank · 15/11/2015 16:01

I stopped taking Folic Acid and pregnacare a few weeks ago, but I wish I'd kept up with the pregnacare as I'm on iron tablets now - I am anaemic (also got fybogel to take when the inevitable happens.

Mum and Dad have been here this weekend helping us get the baby's room ready - it's so lovely - I want to sleep in it (and that will happen before I know it!)

TheMshipIsBack · 15/11/2015 16:19

Ugh, pregnancy vitamins made the nausea and now heartburn so much worse. I'm only doing folic acid and vitamin d now, the former just till the current bottle is done. Very jealous of those able to scoff ice cream, cheese, etc. Most dairy aggravates my heartburn terribly and the only thing I can tolerate is yogurt. Eating that daily for calcium.

Feel like I've hit a wall today, 24+1 and I'm suddenly zero energy. DH did all the cleaning and is now out for a run. DS and I are cuddling up to watch Frozen, that's about the limit of my ambition today!

Gingerlady123 · 15/11/2015 16:31

Hi everyone.
Hope everyone's Sunday has been a good one. Looks like ive finally stopped vomiting. So happy and fingers crossed it stays that way, still getting the occasional nausea but havnt thrown up in days and not needed my phenergan tablets at all.

I can now only fit into my tracksuit bottoms and my stretchy legging style jeans so i went out today and bought a pair of maternity jeans. i couldn't believe it when i could not do by button up this morning!

I started centrum tablets at 5 weeks and after a few weeks i switched to folic acid+vit d up to 13 weeks but then i stopped. Should i still be taking them? no problem was found at the 20 week scan so i assume its ok not to be taking them now?

at my 16 week app the midwife mentioned i had great iron levels but i dont know how as my diet is not the best. hoping their still allright after all the vomiting though

Im pretty sure i felt baby kicking earlier so feeling a bit better today.

I am however suffering with pain now! its mostly on the right side when i get up and move and also happened twice when urinating (but not everytime)- so i have worked my self up and imagining i have an infection which will bring on premature labour. either that or its normal pregnancy pain. It really hurts to get up out of chairs and bed. mostly on the right side slightly round to the back. Any advice? Fundal is a high placenta missi. However as the private scan said anterior i reckon i have high anterior as most movements are so low down. they have said the meds are safe but its up to me if i want to take them. its a hard decision to make

How are you missi? hope your keeping ok :)
