First trimester worries and joys. Test taking, morning sickness, midwife appointments and scans. It's all happening.

Can't believe we filled up a thread already. (I'll get this deleted if someone's already created a second thread, but I didn't see one!

poster I am so so sorry Flowers I was so hoping that everything would work out. I'm thinking of all of you lovely ladies who have had such sad news since this thread started, it's so terrible. Take care of yourself

Southy84 · 23/10/2015 15:21

Sorry posted that too soon, i hope you have support and know that we are all here if you need to/want to talk.

mama glad everything went well at your scan.

Welcome loveslemon what a journey you've been on x

Thank you for your best wishes for the scan loveslemon and frozen (sorry If ive missed anyone) baby is ok, I still have an area of bleed though which explains yesterday's scare. It's about the size of a penny which now seems like I was a bit over the top about it. It was scary at the time though.

Hope your scan went well muffin and hope your mw appointment went well too tiff I got weighed at mine Blush blamed my weight gain on my boots...

MollieRos · 23/10/2015 15:37

Poster I'm so sorry to hear your news, make sure you look after yourself.

I'm glad for everyone who has had good news in scans over the last couple of days.

I was a bit worried about my weight gain too, though I'm usually underweight (I eat well- big portions, reasonably healthy etc and never restrict my food intake, I'm just naturally skinny!), and have put on 6 pounds already so far. Google reckons you should put on 1-5 pounds in the first trimester, but I'm only 8 weeks and I'm already on 6 pounds! I don't think my eating habits have particularly changed, so not sure how I've managed it. I was a bit worried they'd tell me off for being a bit underweight, and now I'm thinking they'll tell me I'm putting on too much!

I've had to come home from work early as I'm feeling so sick and have a horrible headache, thank goodness it's the weekend!

StormTr00per · 23/10/2015 16:09

poster, brenna and grapefruit.. so sorry to read your sad news Flowers

mollie hope you get a chance to rest up at the weekend and feel better soon!

I'm getting very restless about my scan on Tuesday. Can't come soon enough!

ljjeffro · 23/10/2015 18:38

So sorry to hear your news *poster Flowers
I have a private scan on Monday, ill be 9+2 and although I've already had one scan at 7wks I'm still really worried!
I hope everyone is looking forward to the weekend. Half term next week so I've got a week off, thank God!
I have been so tired recently. I've had to talk myself through the last 2 car journeys home from work cos I've been feeling like I could fall asleep at the wheel. Not good!

Southy84 · 23/10/2015 20:13

mollie I have also put on 6pounds, I had by 8 weeks but it hasn't gone up in the last couple of weeks. My mw wasn't concerned though, she said some will be weight gain but some will be additional blood volume and some water retention. I'm hoping mine will even out now.

It will be Tuesday before you know it storm although know how the waiting feels, how far along are you?

Hi ljjefro I hope your scan goes well monday, totally get the tiredness too, problem is i can't seem to sleep :( nice to have half off, I'll be back to wrk Monday after a week off- had the time off as sick though as felt so rough this week. Do you have any plans for the weekend/week off? Apart from maybe a few lie ins/afternoon naps :)

delilabell · 24/10/2015 07:31

Thank you everyone for the welcomes, it still feels a massive shock to post on one of these boards.
My scan is on Friday, I'm hoping I'll relax when I have had it (until I think of the next thing)

I'm so sorry to hear the sad news for other posters Flowers

Mamama31 · 24/10/2015 10:59

Poster I am so so sorry, that's is such sad news after everything you have been through. Take care I hope you are surrounded with support and comfort.

Hoop lovely scan! They didn't say I'd be going back for another, they said the 12wk scans are always early as they book you in a few days after the scan and all of that has to be done by 12wks! Have booking in on Monday so I will discuss then.

Southy glad your scan went well and you are not over reacting, bleeding is scary no matter how much there is. I had the tiniest amount of spotting at 7wks and was straight to EPU for a scan.

I've put on about 5lbs as well but it's all on my tummy/boobs, I look a bit thinner everywhere else!! So random!!

Mamama31 · 24/10/2015 11:11

Brenna thank you, I know, it's not that I didn't want to share my news about my scan I just wanted to be respectful and sensitive. It didn't feel right for me to post immediately after reading about yours and grapefruits sad news. I really hope your coping ok, big hugs x

AlaskaWaves · 24/10/2015 20:16

Have any of you bought/wearing maternity trousers yet? 11weeks tomorrow and I'm so bloated it's painful wearing my normal jeggings, jeans or work trousers. Even undoing top button is still uncomfortable. I have some leggings and tracksuit type trousers which are comfy but these are definitely for at home only!
I'm so bloated and normally have a pretty flat stomach, one of my friends indirectly asked me on Thursday if I was pregnant, and I was wearing a floaty top and long scarf to try to hide it!
I don't really want to buy maternity clothes until after my scan... Any ideas/ advice?

StormTr00per · 24/10/2015 20:39

Hey southy I'm 12+2 just now (or thereabouts!).. I know what you mean about the sleeping.. I'm so tired all the time but awake half the night. Argh! And I get really hot and itchy too.
All day I've felt like I have a terrible hangover, much worse without having had the pleasure of drinking Wink

Alaska yes I've started wearing maternity jeans already - they are a bit big but so much more comfortable Smile. If I remember correctly I was in maternity jeans by this point last time too. I still just look like I've had a big xmas dinner or something though...

frozensmoothie · 24/10/2015 21:18

Glad your scan went well southy

I'm tired all the time but awake half the night too! Normally wake around 3-4am and find it hard to go back to sleep properly. I spent most of the afternoon napping today and also had the horrible hangover feeling. Apparently this is your body's way of getting you used to night time waking already.

Im 12+5 so was hoping I'd start to have more energy by now. I feel I can't make any plans at the moment as I don't know how rough I'll feel and I hate letting people down. At least I finally have time to read and have been working my way through the pile of unread books!

Also feeling the bloat ! I'm not in maternity trousers yet but I've just bought some stretchy jeggings in a bigger size and hoping they will tide me over for a while. Half my jeans no longer fit and I only have 2 pairs of work trousers that still do up!

I hadn't put on any weight at my booking appt but have put on 5lbs in the in the last month!

ODog · 24/10/2015 21:39

I am struggling to get through a whole day in skinny jeans but my maternity clothes are still in the loft at least until Monday when I have the scan. Jeggings/leggings/dresses and tights seem to still be ok.

Also the constipation is already back. I had it the whole time last time and it was awful by the end and the physio said it would have contributed to the terrible state of my pelvic floor post delivery. I swear it's the iron in pregnancy multivitamins. However my booking bloods came back high for iron (they were already quite low at this point last time) so I plan to stop the vitamins once I have the all clear on 12wk scan and go for a healthy diet and maybe some vit d as its winter. I don't think you need folic acid post 12 wks do you?

ODog · 24/10/2015 21:40

Also v tired here too but maybe because DS is waking hourly at the moment. Please tell me he will be sleeping through by the time baby comes (he will be nearly 2 by then!)

Southy84 · 25/10/2015 07:45

Welcome delila and good luck with your scan on Friday too :)

Thanks mama and frozen it's definitely feeling more real, we told dsil's last night and but I feel weird about it, I dong know, just like we shouldn't be celebrating yet. I'm also 11 weeks today alaska I was moved another day forward at my private scan and I have a proper pot belly :( just look like ive eaten too much, that's why we ts dsil's though as its getting obvious. Can't wear hardly any of my trousers anymore!

I'm still getting hot too storm and the bloat was horrific yesterday, I also had the worst gas ever Blush every morning I wake up with a fake hangover, not nice is it! My mouth is always sooo dry!!

That's good about the iron levels odog I didn't know that about constipation and pelvic floor Shock ive been struggljng too, well apart from the last two days whe it's gone the other way, think that's because of the antibiotics im on though. And my mw said I can stop folic acid at 12 weeks, but replace with a general pregnancy vitamin. That must be tough with your ds, I wouldn't cope with that little sleep, you are doing well, and hopefully he will start sleeping better soon x

ODog · 25/10/2015 08:48

He is 16mo and has never slept great southy but has been particularly horrific lately. He was up before 5am today because of the clock changes so it's going to be a loooong day! Good job he's so cute and funny!

Southy84 · 25/10/2015 08:54

Does he sleep at all during the day? Hopefully you'll get the chance to have an afternoon nap, bless him :)

ToffeeAppleMarsBar · 25/10/2015 09:05

Hi all.

So so sorry to hear your horrible news Poster - if there's anything we can do to support you, you know where we are.

It's so reassuring to hear so many people are having digestion related issues too! Was worried it was a bad sign but my pregnancy app keeps telling me all digestion slows down and can result in constipation and gas. Lovely!

As for me, we had our first scan yesterday! A private one for £40 and it was amazing! Saw baby, quite the mover and groover (kept wriggling around and waving a hand at us!). Nice strong heartbeat. Baby was a little curled up with legs in the air so it was hard for sonographer to get an accurate measurement but baby is measuring up smaller than my LMP dates which I was expecting as my cycles are usually longer than 28 days. Reckon due date will end up being closer to 20th May.

I was a nervous wreck in the waiting room - almost in tears before I even went in but needn't have worried. DH was his usual stoic self but he's been doing inpressions of how baby was moving ever since which is quite sweet! Feeling so much better reassured.

AND I became an aunt yesterday! BIL had a baby girl yesterday morning.

ODog · 25/10/2015 09:18

He does have a nap southy and he usually goes down for 1.30-2hrs so we always get a nice rest then. I am fully expecting no 2 to be the same. I didn't sleep through until I was 5.

Lovely news on your scan and congrats on becoming an aunt. I have my scan tomorrow morning so I'm hoping for a similarly good outcome!

GrouchyKiwi · 25/10/2015 10:24

Congrats on becoming an Aunt, Toffee. And lovely news about your scan.

I'm on day 3 of a horrible headache. Really wish I could take something more effective than paracetamol.

OP posts:
ToffeeAppleMarsBar · 25/10/2015 10:44

Oh blimey ODog, sounds like your Mum had a rough time with you! Fingers crossed for future nights' sleep.

Oh Grouchy sorry about the headaches - have you spoken to your mw? She might be able to recommend something to soothe them? Hope you're able to take it easy in the meantime.

ToffeeAppleMarsBar · 25/10/2015 10:47

Oh was going to ask... At my scan yesterday, they did find a couple of cysts on my left ovary. Apparently quite common and nothing to worry about - just wondered if anyone else was the same?

ODog · 25/10/2015 10:55

Haha yes toffee but she had 3 under 4 so I don't think she ever really noticed as she was in a 5yr stint of non sleeping. It depends on your definition of sleep through the night I guess. I count it as spending the whole night in your own bed and not waking your parents for any reason during sleep hours (7/8-6?) so I think if you look at it like that then night waking a re very normal all the way through toddler years. My DS mostly just wakes me as he's lost his dummy or come into our bed which is 2/3 times per night average.

No advice on headaches grouchy. I had a pretty horrendous one last week but a paracetamol sorted it out. Hope it goes soon.

MollieRos · 25/10/2015 11:59

Toffee glad the scan went well.

Grouchy I've been getting lots of headaches too, since I got pregnant I've had a constant low-level headache which ramps up every so often. I do suffer from migraines and I'm just so glad I haven't had a proper migraine yet- I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to use my usual meds at the moment. I've been using sugar, caffeine and paracetamol when my headaches get worse at the moment. I've pretty much gone completely de-caff since I've been pregnant, so it does seem to make a difference when I have a headache. So my usual routine these days if my head gets bad is a big glass of ribena, if that doesn't help then a mug of tea, and if still no good then a couple of paracetamol. I think probably a combination of more fluid, sugar, and caffeine all help anyway. I don't seem to ever get rid of it totally, but generally dull it so it's more manageable. I'd never thought it would be effective (I always had to combine co-codamol, ibuprofen and a dark room for headaches before) but better than nothing.

Had a funny moment the other day that I thought you would all appreciate... I was telling my DH how hungry I was (pretty typical conversation!), and he said "it's because someone down there's taking all your food!". I thought he was referring to my boobs, as I've been waiting hopefully for them to get bigger, and keep mentioning them, so I said "well, I wish they'd get bigger then if they're gonna take all my food- I at least want a better cleavage at the end of this!". He just looked at me like I'd totally lost the plot before cracking up. Turns out he was referring to the bean Blush touching moment spoiled! Grin

Southy84 · 25/10/2015 15:51

toffee that's great news on your scan, definitely a bargain at £40! And congratulations on becoming an aunt, I love being an aunt, my niece is amazing love her to bits. I don't have experience of cysts, however I'm sure I've read that it's pretty common, often people have them and are non the wiser unless they have a scan.

Wow odog your mum did have her hands full, hopefully your ds will start sleeping through before 5, but if he doesn't you seem like you are pretty calm and collected :)

Sorry about the headaches grouchy it's hard being limited on meds but I would definitely speak to your mw to see if she can suggest something. Do you have one of those gel eye masks you can put in the fridge? Wonder if lying down in a dark room with one of those may help, not sure if that's practical though.

Lol mollie your story made me laugh! That's also a good point on the caffeine grouchy have you suddenly gone cold turkey with caffeine? I did as I couldn't stomach it and I did have some headaches early on- just whilst my body got used to it.
