First trimester worries and joys. Test taking, morning sickness, midwife appointments and scans. It's all happening.

Can't believe we filled up a thread already. (I'll get this deleted if someone's already created a second thread, but I didn't see one!

Morning Girls, sorry havent posted in few days - Oh im like few of ye symptoms beginning to subside a bit and Im worrying, my scan isnt till the 5th of November, I am 8+4 today.

I still do feel bit nauseous in mornings- vomiting has eased off in mornings and I only vomit once in work as opposed to twice or three times - but definitely not as bad as other weeks!

Any ideas on what to have for breakfast?? two days in a row I tried belvita(I know they not the healthiest) and fruit salad but I brought up (sorry tmi here) the whole thing after eating it - this morning I am working from home and attempting some museli, hopefully will stay put in stomach!

Sorry for lack of personals, was so much to catch up on!

royaldub · 07/10/2015 08:21

With regards to hospitals I self referred, I have a choice of about 4 as I am only 30- 40 minutes depending on traffic(commute to work different story lol!) from Dublin so there is two hospitals there(there is three in Dublin but one of them too far) that are within easy access for me and there is two hospitals in two towns near me that are about 40 minutes aswell.

I choose one in Dublin seeing as I work there every day apart from Wednesdays and will be easy for me to get to appointments. Plus it has gotten good reports, I just went with my instinct aswell and I just feel happy with the one I am going for!

Breakfast is tough for me too at the moment. My most successful breakfast this week has been lemon meringue pie! I think it was the tartness of the lemon filling. I'm trying toast this morning.

Bish: It could be that. Not like you're going to want to go all the way to St John's when you're so close to ERI! They tried to send me to St John's with DD2 but I told them I was likely to have the baby in the car if we had to travel that far so they gave in.

mamama, my next booked scan is not until 16 Nov. they've told me if I'm still bleeding in 2 weeks to go back for another scan and if I have heavy bleeding (which I currently do) then to go back once it's stopped. Not too reassuring for me to have nothing definite but I'm not feeling too positive at the moment.

I find it interesting how different maternity care is depending on where you live, I will see MWs at my local health centre but will have to travel 25 mins to my nearest hospital. There is another a similar distance (as the crow flies) but it has a bad rep, particularly its maternity section. It's bizarre to expect you to choose immediately though!

grapefruit although she will feel sad your friend will also feel happy for you, possibly best to message her rather than making a big deal about it face to face, she may find it hard to plaster on a smile if she's still feeling low from her miscarriage. Having been in her position though, she will be pleased for you.

Mamama31 · 07/10/2015 10:19

Beckle that's horrendous! My EPU would see me weekly if I was continuing to spot. My spotting has stopped but they still arranged another scan for sat (from 2 weeks ago at my last scan) just to reassure me. I would push for another scan asap because there should be growth within a week. And also if you are bleeding heavily they should be keeping an eye on you and providing more reassurance scans. You have been through so much that's just awful that they are not doing more for you. Would you not just call them and ask if you can come back soon to check if there has been any growth?

Mamama31 · 07/10/2015 10:21

Royal I had ready brek for breakfast today but I make it very smooth without lumps and put quite a lot of milk in it to make sure it is smooth. It went down fine and fills you up for a good while also.

Some days I just need brunch rather than breakfast though. Yesterday I had toast, scrambled egg and mushrooms and it was yum!

8+5 today....time is going soooooo slowly.....

Billypug · 07/10/2015 10:36

After everyone's response regarding my midwife appointment I decided this morning to chase up the referral. I got passed to 3 different departments and even a totally different hospital to what I was expecting before I found my referral. The lady there said they have no appointments due to being understaffed and that "fingers crossed I'll be seen in a couple of weeks". A couple of weeks will take me to 12weeks.

So after having a bit of a stress to my hubby he advised I ring our area midwives who have always been really helpful and informative. The midwife there was shocked by the hospital and said I need to be seen asap so I have transferred my care over to them. It's a very small unit and a home-from-home midwife led unit, which I'm not sure about. But have an appointment on Sunday and she's getting my scan booked in too.

Feeling much better about things now and it's nice to feel like I'm under the care of someone now.

Hope everyone's okay today.. I'm off to IKEA today, might look at a few baby things too! (Though will resist buying things!)

Mamama31 · 07/10/2015 10:48

Billy that's great you got sorted....what a nightmare though with the hospital! enjoy Ikea...I tend to avoid the place...feels like I'm never getting out of there alive when I go! haha! Good luck!

Brenna24 · 07/10/2015 11:04

Billy, that is awful but the new midwife sounds great. I think it is maybe a blessing in disguise that you have ended up with a much better midwife as a result.

Mama I love REadyBrek in winter and just bought my fist box for this year. My dog loves it as a treat too. Grin

I had my flu jab this morning. So far no sore arm.

29redshoes · 07/10/2015 11:11

beckle what a difficult situation to be in, I agree with mama I think it's worth pushing for another check up.

billy great that you found a better solution, the hospital sounds terrible! You need to be careful to make sure they book the 12 week scan in time, if it's too late (I think it's after 14 weeks) they can't do the NT testing. Hopefully the midwife can advise on that.

It does seem that care varies a lot between different parts of the country. I'm pretty nervous about our hospital, the midwife at booking in was lovely but otherwise the impression hasn't been that great. And apparently for some reason they've got double the number of women booking in now as they would normally expect, so that's twice as many women giving birth at the same time as me...! And a couple of staff have made comments about maternity being 'about to fall over' as they're so busy. Doesn't fill me with confidence!

29redshoes · 07/10/2015 11:17

billy oops just saw your midwife is booking your scan already, that's great!

ODog · 07/10/2015 12:15

Scrambled egg and mushroom on toast just inspired me. Just had it for lunch and it was yum. I could eat it again though so maybe ill make some cheese and crackers. Already had blueberry wheats and toast on top of that today! Sickness subsiding and insatiable hunger returning. 3st weight gain here I come again!!!

Bishboshbash · 07/10/2015 12:26

Urgh feeling so rough today, this cold just won't go. Have had to come and lie down whilst making DS lunch. This is so much harder than last time when you have a toddler to look after too! Roll on next week if people are feeling less sick at 8 weeks!
Enjoy Ikea Billy, I love that place, I worked there when I was preg with DS (I blame the staff canteen for my 3stone weight gain though haha)

evs34 · 07/10/2015 12:27

Hi all. I am hungry all the time too and feel sick if I don't eat. So hard being in work isn't it?
Scan was definitely worth the money. I won't be able to wait until booking - don't even have a date yet ( in Wales though so no surprise!!) so will be going again in a cpl weeks I think. Found somewhere for 45 so not too bad. Anyone put weight on yet? I'm 8plus3 and already have the horrid squidgy tummy thing going on! Can't do up my skinny jeans and had to buy some maternity leggings as my usual ones cutting me in half! Worried about wearing mat clothes as feel it's too early and don't want to jinx things but don't want to waste money buying bigger sizes as they wont last v long. Constant mental torture isn't it!? Hope you all have good days today. Time dragging so badly. Role on 12 weeks plus! Xx

GrouchyKiwi · 07/10/2015 12:51

Having pains and weird feelings in my uterus today. Sitting with feet up to see if it passes.

Brenna24 · 07/10/2015 13:46

I hope it is just stretching or something Grouchy Flowers

My risk assessment at work for the chemicals and things I use is finally getting done this afternoon. I am 9+5 and told them 4.5 weeks ago. Not before time. In the meantime I have been through all the safety data sheets and just plain refused to touch certain things without this being done.

evs34 · 07/10/2015 13:55

Grouchy- I had sharp stabbing pains last night too. They only went off when I lay on my front. Probably is stretching pain. Keep your feet up!

frozensmoothie · 07/10/2015 13:57

Hi all, 10+4 today and the nausea and queasiness has returned after a few days off.

The weight gain and squidgy tummy has started for me too. Stupidly put on skinny jeans today and now at work and had to undo the top button. Hope no-one notices! Will need to invest in some stretchy trousers fast Blush

GrouchyKiwi · 07/10/2015 15:15

Thanks Brenna and evs. I think you're right about it being stretching. It has mostly gone now so I've got a few jobs done. Trying not to overdo it, though!

Southy84 · 07/10/2015 15:16

beckle I really think you should be calling them and asking for another scan, I really don't think its good that they expect you to wait that long for another scan after everything you have been through/are going through.

billy I'm so glad you got things sorted with your midwife/appointment, sounds a nightmare! Not what you need.

I had my flu jab brenna on Monday and arm was so painful I couldn't sleep on that side! Hopefully yours will be ok.

grouchy ive been having weird stomach cramp things too and just had another scan and everything is ok with the little bean, I at last have an answer to my bleeding too, I have an area in my womb which is basically like a bruise (how they described it) so every now and then the spotting is coming from there. I've been told it's nothing to do with the baby and should slowly dissapear, they were so lovely and said I can phone them if I need to and they will get me back in. My dates have now been moved back forward and I'm 8+2 (I would have been 8+3 going by first day of lmp) and my due date is the16th may. I will be 13+4 at my 12 week scan. They also gave me a scan pic for DH as he couldn't make the scan. Feeling relieved but still a bit anxious.

bish my all day nausea only started last weekend :( hopefully yours will ease though x

Brenna24 · 07/10/2015 15:24

Southy, that is brilliant news about knowing the bleeding is not from near the baby. :) So far my arm is ok but I had one a few years ago when I worked in a pharmacy and my arm felt punched after it, so I suspect it will be sore later.

Southy84 · 07/10/2015 15:36

Thanks brenna it's scary to know there's a bleed there but good to know it's under where the baby is. Yes I still feel like I've been punched Confused at least I have no cold symptoms - last time I had it I got a horrific cold!

Mamama31 · 07/10/2015 16:36

Southy that's great news about your scan. What were you able to see?? Very exciting!!! And good they know where the bleed is and that it's not effecting the baby :) great news!

evs34 · 07/10/2015 17:09

Good news about scan southy. They sound as though been lovely with you too which is good

Southy84 · 07/10/2015 17:26

Thank you evs and mama I do feel lucky that they've been so understanding. mama I could see so much more than last time, I could see a proper shaped baby, with little arm and leg buds, it's grown from 5.1mm to 17.2mm in the last 12 days. It made me cry (again) I think they see me and think oh no here comes the emotional one again!
