First trimester worries and joys. Test taking, morning sickness, midwife appointments and scans. It's all happening.

Can't believe we filled up a thread already. (I'll get this deleted if someone's already created a second thread, but I didn't see one!

Thank you guys! It's nice to be back although I'm still very scared of something going wrong, especially with the bleeding I'm still having.

peas I'm certain of my dates, I know when my LmP was, when I had ov pain and when I POAS. I'd have been 2w1d when I POAS and I'd bought bigger bras before I could have even been pregnant so I'm not sure exactly what's gone on, whether baby is just a slow starter (is there such a thing?) or whether I conceived twice at different times in the cycle (I think it is possible to have twins who are a couple of weeks apart in gestation) and the first didn't stick? That may explain the bleeding and clots now but I just don't know. I'm very relieved though and so so very glad that a different consultant looked at my notes.

Bish I'll get the normal scan at 12 weeks for dating, I could have kept my original scan which would now be at just under 10 weeks but given my age it's probably better to have the nuchal test. Other than that I'll get one in 2 weeks if I'm still bleeding.

Brenna your dog sounds like such a character, it's so sad when our pets get old x

Nicky333 · 05/10/2015 17:25

Those of you who have had early private scans, would you recommend having one? I'm worried that we'll pay, have the scan, see a heartbeat, and get overly optimistic and that something will happen in between the early scan and 12 week scan.

PeasinPod1 · 05/10/2015 17:28

Nicky yes I would...as if you see a heartbeat your odds of anything going wrong drop massively...think its the best money you can really spend at the moment but just my opinion!

AlaskaWaves · 05/10/2015 17:36

I'm currently debating whether to have an early scan at 10-11 weeks...
We want to tell family all together after the 12 week scan.... SIL is at university but is back to visit the week before the 12 week scan. It wouldn't be fair to tell her over the phone, and the next time she's back will be Christmas (20 weeks) by which point I imagine there will be a little bump and the rest of the family would have noticed by then. WWYD?

Southy84 · 05/10/2015 17:45

Welcome back beckle it's so nice to have you back, I'm sorry you've had such a worrying couple of weeks, hope you're taking it easy Flowers it's so good to hear you've seen you're little baby and it's heartbeat :)

I phoned my epu and they've agreed to do another scan for me this wed due to my spotting and cramps starting again. If everything is ok I will re-schedule my private scan for a couple of weeks time. I justified the scan nicky and alaska by thinking about how few boozy nights I've had out since ttc and finding out I was pg, so this is the money ive saved on nights out that can now go on a scan- that'sy way of justifying it anyway :)

Greyhorses · 05/10/2015 17:46

Beckle- so pleased to hear that I hope it continues to go well for you.

Brenna- your dog sounds like a character Grin mine are both young and still in the bouncy puppy stage so timing isn't exactly great on that front. I am getting a trainer out at the weekend so I hope she can help!

For those asking about early scans, I thought mine was worth it in that it made everything more real and I was relieved to see the baby in the right place etc. Anxiety wise I am still worried things can go wrong but I suppose you will feel like that up until the day you give birth and beyond as things can go wrong at any point I suppose.

I have noticed my stomach is so bloated and hard, I know it can't be baby so I hope it goes down soon enough!

Bishboshbash · 05/10/2015 18:17

Beckle with my DS I didn't get a positive test until I was two weeks late and even then it was very faint. At my scan I was put back 10days but I know when I ovulated and when we DTD so he must have been conceived about 5days after Ov and I wondered too if he was a slow grower at first or something like that. It was all fine in the end though and he was a 8lb9oz baby so he obviously grew ok in the end!

Bishboshbash · 05/10/2015 18:19

Oh and is anyone finding they are starving all the time? I went out this afternoon and had to buy food on the way home as my stomach was growling! I still don't fancy eating much though, poor DH is having to make two different dinners depending on what I feel up to eating.

Grapefruit8 · 05/10/2015 18:59

Those of you asking about private scans... Yes, yes, YES! Best money I've spent, definitely worth it to put your mind at ease. I feel much more relaxed about the pregnancy now I've seen baby and heartbeat. It's comforted me and helped bridge the gap to my 12 week nhs scan which seemed oh so far away when I got the letter in the post. It depends on your financial situation obviously but as we found a local company doing them for £40 it was a no brainer for us. With regards to bloating, yes I have this too and I'm convinced it's noticeable to people even though it's clearly not baby as far too early!!

Mamama31 · 05/10/2015 19:04

Southy that's good you have another scan this wed, hopefully will put your mind at rest.

Fluffy I am glad that you feel you can come on here and get support/share your feelings. A Lot of what you are experiencing could be anxiety mixed with hormones and hopefully you will feel more clear soon about what you want. I'd be lying if I said it is difficult for me to read at times as it took us 2 years to concieve after a miscarriage also

Mamama31 · 05/10/2015 19:06

...and we were just about to begin fertility treatment when we got pregnant this time. The last 2 yrs not being able to have a baby has been pure hell and has tested our marriage to the limits! But I understand your situation is different to mine and you have your own reasons for feeling how you do and your own choices to make. I hope you make the decision that will be right for you in the long term.

Mamama31 · 05/10/2015 19:08

My dog is sick tonight as well.....had to clean up vomit and poo....he never does anything inside so he must really be sick. Why do these things happen when you are pregnant and have a very weak stomach!!! :( boke!

ICantThinkOfAUsernameH · 05/10/2015 20:08

Ah no mama how yucky! Euch! Hope no more poo/sick for you to deal with!
waves to everybody else

29redshoes · 05/10/2015 20:14

beckle what a roller coaster! I'm so pleased to read your update and hope things keep going well for you.

brenna your dog sounds so funny! What a character.

Good luck for the scan southt, I hope it goes well.

I'm panicking a bit tonight - my symptoms seem to have gone. I did feel sick this morning but not as bad as usual, and now I don't feel that sick or tired really. Also I swear my boobs are not hurting as much as they were, if at all (have sort of forgotten what's normal now) and I'm not as bloated either.

Can you call EPU if symptoms disappear? I'm wondering about doing that tomorrow, not sure if I'll look like I'm overreacting. I'm 8+5 today so feel like symptoms should be getting worse not better Sad

MollieRos · 05/10/2015 20:23

notso I'm only 6+1 so even further behind you! I'm so jealous of everyone who has already had booking in appts and who has their 12w scan dates! Even my booking in isn't for 3 more weeks, so far away! And I will probably mention the rare meat thing to the midwife, though I'm sure she'll think it's fine (I hope!) It seems to be that rare steak is less bad than pink mince meat (e.g. burgers), and unfortunately I had a pink burger.

With finding out the sex, I can't bring myself to think that far ahead in case it doesn't stick, but when we were discussing it theoretically ages ago I wanted to find out but my DH didn't. So I think if it does work out we will end up having a surprise, as there's no way I would be able to know but not tell him!!

Fluffy I'm glad you're still posting on here, it's so good to hear about different people's experiences- everyone's story is different. I've definitely had many wobbles already, and though I really want this pregnancy to stick, It's so incredibly enormous to get my head around that I'm very far from being deliriously happy and excited! We'd literally just decided to be less careful, so I don't think either of us were fully prepared for the possibility that I'd actually, you know, get pregnant.

Welcome back Beckle wonderful news! Really hope things are a bit smoother for you from here on in Smile

Brenna your dog sounds brilliant, love the precious pigs ear saga (though I'm sure you were less amused in the middle of the night Smile

We're gonna go for it with the private early scan I think, hopefully at 8 weeks so that they will be able to detect a heart beat if there is one to detect. We found a very cheap one near us but looking at their website they're not regulated or registered with anyone to check standards or safety (e.g. by CQC) so we're going to have to go for a more expensive one I think as I'm a stress head. It's a lot to afford, but I'm trying to look at it from the point of view that I'll be saving money on wine over the next 9 months Smile

MollieRos · 05/10/2015 20:24

29 loads of people on here seem to have had fluctuating symptoms so I'm sure yours are the same. but I would say that if you're worried then ring EPU- that's what they're there for.

frozensmoothie · 05/10/2015 20:47

29 my symptoms definitely fluctuate. I find they ease when I've had sleep and rest and get worse when I'm tired. Some days I feel almost back to normal and then a few days later they're back. Mine have also changed as time's gone on. The nausea is subsiding but dizziness and light headedness is getting worse.

bish I am starving all the time and have to eat every few hours or else I feel awful. I was eating a packet of crisps at 10:30 last night as stomach was rumbling despite the enormous dinner and dessert I'd had a few hours earlier!

I'm seriously considering a private scan now as still 3 weeks to go until NHS one. I think I can definitely use the lack of boozy nights out and socialising to justify the cost!

Is anyone else finding their hair has changed? Mine has changed into a dry, frizzy birds nest. According to the Internet old wives tales, dry, frizzy hair and the lack of being sick means that I'm having a boy!!!

29redshoes · 05/10/2015 21:10

Thanks frozen and mollie. I'm trying to keep it in perspective but I can't help worrying. I'd be really sad if something were to go wrong now, I'm nearly 9 weeks and was hoping I'd nearly made it! Sounds a bit silly but am now just really hoping I feel ill again soon for some reassurance.

On a completely different note, I'm going to a hen do in two weeks which I've just found involves...a hula hooping lesson!! Of all things!!! Is that safe during early pregnancy??

frozen I don't really think my hair has changed, but then I am convinced I'm having a girl so maybe that supports your theory?!

PisforPeter · 05/10/2015 21:21

Is anybody pregnant with no. 2 & finding sickness much worse this time?? I had hardly anything when I had my daughter & now feel sick all day but haven't actually been sick. I'm only 6+4 too by dates Confused

Bishboshbash · 05/10/2015 21:43

Yes me P! I feel bloody awful and I'm sure I didn't feel this bad last time!

ODog · 05/10/2015 21:47

Yes pis sickness is worse this time around. Although I also agree with frozen that I feel much better if DS has slept well. So maybe added tiredness has a part to play.

PisforPeter · 05/10/2015 21:58

Glad I'm not the only one!
I agree I have to do so much more this time & I think that is a factor.
Hoping to feel better in 5 weeks...

Brenna24 · 05/10/2015 22:05

For those whose symptoms are less, mine have mostly disappeared since I hit 9 weeks. Not all of them but the (minimal) sickness I had went and I am not quite as tired. I am still quite constipated and my boobs are still sore and bigger but I feel less grotty overall.

Said idiot dog is now jumping up and down on the bed shouting at the ear which has in some way offended him. He is so funny. Even at stupid o'clock in the morning I still find it funny. He is a border collie. It shows. All of my dogs have been collies or crosses and I am not convinced I would know what to do with a normal dog now.

Oh no, poor you and your dog Mama. At least you are getting plenty of practice cleaning up now for after the baby is born. My midwife's commen when I said I had put down wipeable floors to make life easier with the dogs was to laugh and point out how well prepared I was to have a baby too.

notsoold · 05/10/2015 23:37

Brenna..... we always had great danes in my home country. And other large breeds but the great danes were our babies. When (finally) I got a dog here it was (vecause of dh) a cavalier king charles.... it was so small but still the same as the great danes .... I love collies!!!!
I went to my normal zumba lesson but felt so ill before lesson so I had to come back home.
The symptoms are worse at this pg.... but I have proper round boobs now and they are not dragging on the floor collecting dust as before pg (and as they will be after labour)Grin

ParsnipSoup · 06/10/2015 05:34

Blergh. Turns out my nausea is much worse on night shifts than during the day. I feel like I've tried everything I can reasonably do at work without everyone figuring out.

Anyone got any tips to share? Trying eating little and often, trying ginger things but I just can't think of anything else!
