Northern I'm also back to work tomorrow. Luckily only inset day so hopefully can ease myself back in before kids arrive kn Wednesday. I'm really lacking in motivation because I know I'm only going to teach them for one term and not see them through the year.
Rufus hope you had a better day then ladt night!

What did everyone get up to today for the bank holiday? I've been using some filler to get rid of cracks round the window. Been wanting to do it for months but knowing we'll have a newborn in tje house soon is spurring me on to do all the jobs that never get done. Dh reckons I have nesting syndrome Wink

Rufus200 · 31/08/2015 20:32

Thank you everyone for all the support. Been baking cakes with my mum, just what my bum needs! Staying here tonight and giving DH some space. He can have fun dealing with the building site tomorrow on his own.

goneswimming · 31/08/2015 22:05

Evening everyone and welcome bump. Ladies who have done this before, can I have some insight about knickers?! I have a pair of maternity jeans which are ever so comfy, but they pull my pants down! I assumed normal knickers are fine throughout- do I need to rethink that and buy maternity pants, or just bigger knickers?

haquoi123 · 31/08/2015 22:28

rufus really pleased that you've had support! And cakes are awesome.

gone I've had to buy some knickers the next size up already, I don't know if maternity ones exist though... Are your knickers falling down because they're too big or too small?

Welcome bump (loving the name!)

Woo for the boogieing chinchilla! My lo turned massively yesterday, felt like it was trying to burrow it's way out of my stomach! I stood in the kitchen squealing for a while while DH looked on in amusement. Men really miss out don't they... (scratches head, thinking of morning sickness... But it's worth it)

haquoi123 · 31/08/2015 22:28

(gone where are your trousers from?)

goneswimming · 01/09/2015 07:30

They're jojomamanbebe. I think the likelihood that my knickers are too small is also a very real possibility!

Bumpasaurus · 01/09/2015 07:46

Thank you for thebwarm welcome ladies Smile .. I usually wearhigh leg knickers however as my tummy has expanded with bump and bloat I tried out the 'full brief' they are so so compfy Grin.. Not the most attractive at times however if buy a nice pattern pair I can convince myself they are '50s vintage'

jellypi3 · 01/09/2015 07:48

Welcome bump :)

Hi bump and welcome! Smile

gone I have this issue too- I went up to two sizes in knickers in my last pregnancy so I fully expect it to happen again!

NorthernChinchilla · 01/09/2015 09:20

To be honest gone I just accept that hoicking and a degree of fiddling is part'n'parcel of pregnancy Grin! Also depends on whether your mat jeans are under or over the bump- I massively favour over to help keep everything in place.

It's lovely isn't it haq, can't wait for it to be more regular. DS had hicoughs most mornings too, so will be fascinated to see if that happens again!

clarabellski · 01/09/2015 09:22

My mum brought me maternity knickers from Aldi of all places. I've not taken them out of the packet yet as current knickers still fit ok, so can't comment yet on whether they're any good.

Thinking of you today banana, I hope the procedure goes smoothly and painlessly Flowers

Happytimes2 · 01/09/2015 10:04

I think the knicker thing is to do with then sitting lower. U can get mat pants and even mat thongs.
I just went with some bigger pants mostly and got some mat pants which were huge. U will probably need them for after as well.
Pregnancy is truly a sexy time!

jellypi3 · 01/09/2015 11:15

i just went to primark and bought some granny pants in 2 sizes bigger. I must admit they are comfy as anything (and depressingly fit nicely)...

Slightly different from the knickers but not much, has anyone tried the maternity tights yet and are they worth it or should I just buy a bigger size normal tight? As I wear tights for work most day wanted to know whether it was worth buying some maternity ones?

clarabellski · 01/09/2015 12:00

Hi MaryEllen, I'm wearing my 40 denier pair right now! Even though I don't have much of a bump yet, I find any tight clothing really uncomfortable (in the same way you would if you had trapped wind/indigestion). I bought mine from M&S. The 10 denier ones stay up a lot better than the 40 denier ones, but maybe when we have bigger bumps, the bump will hold the tights up. They're pretty expensive though compared to normal tights, and I'm already on my second pair of both types (snaggy nail under a table ripped the 40 deniers, and my rings ripped the 10 denier ones, oops...). I might pop into mothercare and see if they have cheaper options.

XingXingFox · 01/09/2015 12:16

rufus I'm sorry you had such a tough weekend. I hope it all gets much better between you and Dh.

I've been wearing may tights for a while now, much better than going a size up because I think it's the seam digging it which is so uncomfortable, which you would still get. I wish I could find some more interesting ones than plain black though!! I carried on wearing my maternity tights for a couple of years after DD, so comfy and no one knows really. I think the ones from boots are best, the others are a bit baggy unless you have a real bump. I didn't need to go down the mat knickers route last time and am hoping I can do the same this time! What a pain! Though you need some old ones for the weeks after birth, that you don't want to ruin so I'll get some primary ones for that...ugh.

I'm going to NY for work in a couple of weeks, am most excited about doing some U.S. baby clothes shopping!!

BananaRaces · 01/09/2015 12:45

The Amnio was pretty unpleasant but went as well as it could go: sample got on first attempt, no bleeding, baby not distressed. I'm now on the sofa and will be taking it very gently for the next couple of days.

They told me that the placenta is anterior, which is fine but means I might not feel the baby move for a few weeks yet. The baby is also a good size and growing well.

Fingers crossed for the results now. We should get the first ones on Thurs/Fri.

haquoi123 · 01/09/2015 13:12

Good to hear it went well banana! Got my fingers crossed for you. Take care of yourself!

Ah, boots! I'll give that a go, fox, I hadn't considered them. Still no luck on my leggings hunt, starting to give up!

I had some tightening earlier today so called the midwives (who know me by name now!). They said to rest for a couple of hours and then get back in touch if they haven't calmed down. I wasn't panicking earlier but I can feeling it rising up, so might have a sleep to keep me calm. It's DS' 1st birthday on Thursday as well, which I'm not looking forward to. Also doesn't help that I'm in that 2 week countdown - he died at 19 weeks and I'm now 17+2. All my symptoms are the same and I can't work out which ones are the bad ones! Anyway, sleep and calm, sleep and calm (a good mantra maybe?)

jellypi3 · 01/09/2015 13:22

oh haqoi that much be very difficult for you. Maybe the tightening is braxton hicks? I think they can start very early on. Are you taking some time off or anything for DS's birthday?

NoMontagues · 01/09/2015 14:01

banana glad to hear the amino is over with and fingers and everything else crossed for you for a good result.

haquoi hope you feel better after a rest. I can only imagine what you must be going through this week Flowers

MaryEllen1 · 01/09/2015 14:41

Clare let me know if yo do go mothercare and what they are like, thinking i may just get some cheaply XL ones for now!

MaryEllen1 · 01/09/2015 14:43

haquoi. Sounds like a sleep is a good idea, hope you feel better after that!

RattyCatty · 01/09/2015 14:47

banana glad it was ok - rest up. Fingers crossed for you Flowers

haquoi rest up too - I'm sure fine but glad you called midwives

CalypsoLilt · 01/09/2015 16:27

banana sending love after your amnio Flowers

rufus how are you getting on after the BH?

haq sending good vibes and cake Cake

blood test results for low blood platelets have come back normal, thanks everyone for your support especially madsaz for pushing me to go to the doctor. I was in Cornwall over the BH with niece and her DS who's 22 months and DD who's 9 weeks so I barely had time to over think things :)

So looking forward to proper baby movements, mine are fleeting and sporadic.

I got maternity tights from New Look.......and they are lush!

RattyCatty · 01/09/2015 17:06

calypso that's great about your blood results - must be a relief!

rufus how is today?

Can I ask some quick advice? I'm a (big) worrier and am getting increasingly anxious that something is going to be wrong at the 20 week scan. I don't have any reason to think this apart from a high end of normal NT measurement at 12 week scan but I'm even dreaming about it. My scan is 24th September when I'll be in week 21. Do you think I should pay and have a reassurance scan with babybond this week? I had one when I was 11 weeks before a wedding so I could tell my friends and they were really nice. My only reservation is that my DH won't be able to take the time off work so I'd feel weird about it and wouldn't have his support (although could take a friend) and he said that if they found something wrong, or thought there might be a problem, we'd probably just have to wait until the NHS one anyway as it's so thorough? Does that make sense? I'm not sure what is best!
