I have no NCT near me. I know where all the groups are from having DD2 but I really struggle to talk to people and make friends, but toddler groups saved my sanity when I had 2 under 3 and I'm looking forward to going back to them all! My Church run a group every other Thursday so will be going there too. I don't blend well with NCT types. I have tattoos and piercings and I dress in skinny jeans and fandom tshirts, and I'm also an Evangelist Christian so the combo always throws people off Grin Blush

SmashleyHop · 04/10/2015 15:21

Oh bottles- This has been a bone of contention for me and DH. With my first I EBF but he took to a bottle no problem at all. So I was able to go back to work and go out without worrying about anything. DS2 and DD1 however turned their noses at every bottle brand known to man. It was so frustrating considering I couldn't not take them with me anywhere and if left alone with DH for any stretch of time he would freak out thinking he'd be left with a screaming baby he couldn't feed. We tried spoons, cups, straws.. nothing took until they began weaning onto solid foods.

I found these bottles online that I'm going to have a go with. They promise to be most breast like of any other bottles. Here's hoping this DD is less picky than her siblings. or maybe my boobs are just amazing and nothing can compare

I'm doing NCT mostly because I'm moving to a whole new area and don't know anyone. But ours were £180 for 6 2.5 hour sessions. Starts in November :)

My friend raves about Mam bottles for colic.

Bumbles, I love bumbles. My favourite nappies with both DC. Nippa ones though, not poppers. Once you've used a nippa a couple of times they are easy peasy and much less fiddly than poppers. Also easier to get a good fit.

Doubles I had a Jane power twin (2nd hand) with my big two. It was OK but felt unstable on kerbs etc. Just don't even consider a hauck side by side- the equivalent of driving with the handbrake on.

I'm another huffer and puffer Grin. Heave myself up from the sofa and dp is like you're only half way through!

MaisieDotes · 04/10/2015 18:36

smashley I love how they've photographed the bottles in a pair to make them even more boob-like!

No NCT in Ireland so I don't have the option. Two of my closest friends are both pregnant atm, one due in a fortnight and one due on NYE, so I do have some RL pregnancy companions.

CalypsoLilt · 04/10/2015 18:51

I checked out Babame and Babipur but neither stocks Bumbles...unless I really have full blown baby brain?!

So far I have bought pre-loved Little Lamb size 1 (10 bamboo nappies, 6 outer wraps, 10 fleece liners and 10 bamboo boosters - £30 from eBay) and 2 Little Lamb Microfibre Nappies in Size 1 also from eBay...... I figured that's about 1 day's worth for a newborn? The cost of new ones is so frightening (up to £17 each!) that I'm just going to ask for gift vouchers for the rest. I need to leave stuff for people to buy, right! ;)

monkerina · 04/10/2015 19:33

Evening all, welcome DarthVader! Nappy talk- I've been looking at the Nappy Lady's recommendations too and am not 100% sure how I feel about it- love the idea of saving money and not contributing to landfill, but for those who've used them before- how much effort are they really? DH feels that the concept is smelly, hassle-y and a bit of a nightmare to make sure you've got all the parts to hand all the time... but realistically, I'll probably be dealing with the washing etc for the most part as he'll be at work. What are your experiences?

Sighing · 04/10/2015 19:39

I used reusables some years ago (youngest is now 7). I did a load a day (ish) until they were more like toddlers. I used the fluffles (tots bots, not sure if they're out there) with motherease wraps (awful name great product). I really didn't find it an ordeal.
They were generally dry by morning whether infoors or out (because they're fleece) but terry cloths being flat dry damn quick too.

Sighing · 04/10/2015 19:43

And even my effort averse exh found them straight forward.

Rufus200 · 04/10/2015 20:02

I shall be useing disposable nappies, I've been told to steer clear of huggies by several mums who all said they leak. I've been told pampers, tesco own and Sainsburys own are all good. Anyone who has used disposable nappies have any more input on brands?

Phoenix80 · 04/10/2015 20:07

Disposables - I've always used pampers or Asda's own and never had a problem with either. I've heard that Aldi's own are really good but I've never tried them. I tried Huggies once but didn't like them either.

GoodnightDarthVader · 04/10/2015 20:15

Hi all! Forgot to say I am also a huffer and puffer (and a moaner, groaned, whinger, and occasionally crier if something minor goes wrong)!

Think I'll try the Avent, might also try the Mimijimi's - want to express for DH to get in on the feeds!

MaisieDotes · 04/10/2015 20:22

I use Pampers, they're nearly always on offer in my local Tesco.

New Baby ones at the start. At the moment DS is in the active fit ones during the day and the Baby-dry ones overnight.

I bow down to the reusable nappy users. My washing machine is going non stop as it is, I am too lazy to do any more washing don't have the capacity for more washing!

TillITookAnArrowToTheKnee · 04/10/2015 20:30

Huggies nappies are horrid, as are the wipes they do, because they come out in chunks when you try and pull them out of the packs Angry

I used Tesco and Boots own brand for DD1 as they were the only ones small enough for my 5lb baby, swapped to Pampers after, Aldi nappies are surprisingly really good too (Aldi wipes tend to be bone dry and so are useless) used Pampers with DS1 (11 years ago it was either Pampers or Huggies, SMA or Cow & Gate, I feel spoilt for choice these days!) And DD2.

But Pampers Simply Dry... My friends DD ended up in a&e with chemical burns on her bum/legs from them Sad Friend is a bit of hypochondriac and had her DD 6 months after I had my 3rd and so shed often call day or middle of the night fretting about something or other, when she text me a photo of her DD I told her to go wake her DH up. Upon having a Google it seemed lots of babies were having a very bad reaction to them.

I stress that both my DDs had no such reaction to Simply Dry, but it was awful.

Mawsymoo · 04/10/2015 20:43

I use the Aldi nappies and find them great. I used pampers new baby in the early days and then baby dry when he got bigger but I find the Aldi ones just as good so we've been using them for months now. Aldi seem to fit slightly bigger than pampers.

Phoenix80 · 04/10/2015 20:47

Oh and bottles, I've got Tommee Tippee ones. I used them with ds1&2 so just got them again this time.

The baby was kicking a lot earlier so I shouted my dh to come have a feel cos I felt like I could feel them against my hand but he couldn't feel them yet Sad

haquoi123 · 04/10/2015 21:00

I have to get DH to have a stealth feel of baby kicking. Any sign that he's not performing to mama only and he shuts up shop! But DH has managed to feel quite a bit the last week which is nice. 22 weeks now!

I'm a moaner and huffer and occasional 'I'm stuck, help!!' after I've got myself well and truly comfy on the sofa and my tummy muscles don't work. Almost fell out of bed the other day reaching for something on the floor - I hadn't realised that I just didn't have the muscle to get back up again. My brain did a frantic recalculate and I managed, but it was close!

I'm so so confused by all the reusable nappy talk. I've got a few plans: 1. Freegle and get what I'm given 2. A friend promised me some for ds and I think she's still holding on to them for me 3. Terry squares 4. Go with the cheapest nappy lady recommendation... Don't have the brain power make any sense of it!

MaisieDotes · 04/10/2015 21:38

That's awful about your friend's DD tillI

Simply dry- are they the ones in the orange packs, I've never tried them. I won't now.

Yes I hear great things about the Aldi nappies but there's no Aldi near me. I use the Lidl wipes sometimes though and they are fine. Otherwise I use tescos own brand unscented wipes and they're nice and soft.

TillITookAnArrowToTheKnee · 04/10/2015 21:53

Maisie Yep, orange pack.

I'm a huffer/puffer/moaner in general, even worse when pregnant. H has a running joke that I'm not allowed anything sharper than a spoon and the only thing I can climb is the stairs Blush I'm terrible. I think nothing of pissing around with tools, or standing on a chair at the top of the stars to change a lightbulb, when I can barely walk on a totally smooth surface without face planting the floor.

Movement: 21 weeks tomorrow. Still very sporadic. H has felt a few really forceful kicks but with placenta being at the front its quite tricky to feel. DDs are really fed up of not being able to feel the baby, haha.

Vain moan: noticed quite a few stretchmarks on the bottom of my stomach. Sigh... Although I'm lucky to have gotten through 3 pregnancies with no belly stretchies but my boobs are RUINED

GoodnightDarthVader · 04/10/2015 22:02

Phoenix, were they the anti-colic bottles?

I'm chuffed with my boobs, finally an A cup!

Happytimes2 · 04/10/2015 22:13

Nappies, I agree huggies are shit! Pampers are often on offer on amazon, asda and aldi are good to.
I never did nct cos of the cost. I've made loads of mum friends through baby groups etc.
time is dragging now. I just want to have a baby!

NorthernChinchilla · 05/10/2015 07:13

We've always used Pampers, can't wait to get the dinky newborn ones! Had a few decent thumps from junior this morning I could feel on the outside too. Finally got my scan this week as well, hurrah Smile

jellypi3 · 05/10/2015 07:25

Seems pampers are a firm winner for disposables. I need to see how I cope with a little person before even considering reusable nappies.

Goodnightdarthvadar - no they're just the regular Closer To Nature Tommee Tippee bottles.

Mawsymoo · 05/10/2015 07:56

24 weeks today!!! Yay! (I know I should really be in the January thread but in fairness to me my date was moved forward a bit).

I have an abnormally-shaped uterus and on my pregnancy on DS I remember what a milestone it was getting to 24 weeks as I was at high risk of preterm labour. I had a consultant appointment on the day and I remember he totally took the wind out of my sails telling me that it was more important I got to 28 weeks! Talk about moving the goalposts! Nobody expected me to get anywhere near term but I ended up having a planned CS at 39+1 with no sign of me going naturally. This time around I'm seeing the same team and while I'm still at an increased risk again this time they know my uterus is "stretchy" so they're much more confident I'll get close to term again. Fingers crossed!

I have my next appointment a week from today and I'm really curious to know what position baby is in, as by 24 weeks DS had assumed his final, awkward position. As there's not as much space in there there's a good chance this baby might be in final position too by now. I can't tell at the moment if he's head up or down as I'm feeling movements lower and higher-up and I don't know what's arms and what's legs!
