With maternity clothing there seems to be a stoicism in some people about not buying/wearing maternity cut things till the last possible minute. Or buying clothes in the next size up instead. The way I see it, these clothes are going to last a maximum of 9 months (well, maybe 10). If I'm going to spend money on them, I want to get the maximum benefit of them!

I'm sitting here with my jeans undone. I don't think I've done a pair up properly for a fortnight. Why don't I just bite the bullet and dig the maternity clothes out of the garage?

Having said that, I found maternity tops really difficult last time. I'm not very feminine, and everything in 2010/11 seemed to be floral. This time I'm planning on wearing DH's shirts to work and his T-shirts at home.

Just had a look at th H&M and Next stuff online. There's some nice jeans on there, and these old things do need replacing!

Indomitable · 13/08/2015 16:06

I suppose I should get DH to go up the ladder...

Smirkingpicnicbasket · 13/08/2015 16:15

Mine are in the loft but all the wrong season! Other things I would quite like now (even at this early stage!); my ball to sit on as the dining room chair has not been comfortable to sit on to work today, my smelly oils (as a bit of scented oil on a tissue may stop me from gagging whilst going anywhere near our fridge!) and my big bed pillow (just a luxury thats nice to cwtch up to!!)

julesldn · 13/08/2015 16:21

Q - another vote for making a formal complaint. She sounds like a fool! But not worth stressing about too much, hope you're ok xxx

Yay to all the scans!

I've gained a stone since my bfp LOL. I honestly don't really care. As my normal self im perfectly healthy so I'm sure weight gain will slow down.

BMI makes me laugh - I've been told to try lose a bit of weight before (size 10, but cheers lovely nurse!) and my DP is always morbidly obese on the chart (he's stocky and short but with a 32inch waist so not even vaguely fat) it's hilarious.

So far all they've done is ask me my usual weight, haven't even put me on the scales. Obviously most midwives and GPs do it by eye, which is charming ????

Off on holiday on sat - can't wait!

Me624 · 13/08/2015 17:16

I'm not worried about weight gain or staying out of maternity clothes for as long as possible for vanity reasons. I just don't want to spend loads of money on maternity clothes! DH and I are very lucky to be very financially comfortable at the moment but the hit on my salary when I go on mat leave will be a major one and I am already worried about how we will cope! So trying to save as much as we can before then.

LaraNotCroft22 · 13/08/2015 17:20

Smirking- as another six footer I found last time the maternity jeans from new look online were good. After a while though I just had some comfy ones and lived in boots!

I need to order a couple of office style maternity dresses as my uniform at work is getting tight. Any ideas anyone?

Rosieblossom123 · 13/08/2015 17:26

Me I love ASOS, the work clothes are brilliant :) gonna start soon for the winter as all my jumpers are so small as well. I wish I was never size 8 so hard haha I need everything literally!! Today I'm wearing my size 8 trousers at work with the button undone Blush

MyNameIsSuz · 13/08/2015 17:33

I haven't cracked out the maternity clothes yet as they're in my in-laws loft! My ds was born in September though so most of them will be the wrong season and i will need more jeans and some jumpers. And a coat! Do you have to buy a whole new coat if you're big in the winter??? Indomitable, have you tried New Look? They have plenty of non-flowery stuff and I got most of my tops from there last time in just plain colours.

JanineMelnitzGlasses · 13/08/2015 17:56

Same here Suz; I had ds in sept 13. Not sure winter 15 will compare to the heatwave!

Also wondering about the coat situation; any tips on nice maternity coats?

Me624 · 13/08/2015 18:15

I've got a coat which doesn't have any buttons or zips, it just belts up. I reckon that will do me until I get really massive. It's from a few years ago, glad I kept it now!

Last winter one of my friends who was pregnant had a great coat that was sort of like a poncho almost so it just did up at the neck and then flared out over the bump, that would work too.

marmitemofo · 13/08/2015 18:15

I bought some mat clothes second hand on eBay for cheap the first time round and will do the same again. I also got hand me downs from my sister and gave them back to her when she got pregnant this year! I basically lived in about five mat dresses last time + a few t shirts and non maternity cardigans, plus one pair of mat jeans when was heavily pregnant over the summer, so this time I'll wear the same and wear those dresses with thick maternity tights over the winter. it's amazing how much variation you can get out of a few t-shirts and dresses!

one day left of the working week... can't wait for the weekend. I am planning on doing sweet FA this weekend Smile

QforCucumber · 13/08/2015 18:42

I've just had a browse on asos - actually looking forward to getting a bump now some of their maternity thinhs are lovely. I am very much like you though me and don't want to spend much as will take a massive cut while on leave

JanineMelnitzGlasses · 13/08/2015 18:57

Your friends coat sounds perfect me, definitely need something that's going to grow with you iyswim.

QforCucumber · 13/08/2015 19:03

Is anyone else breaking out in a huge number of spots? They're on my face, neck and chest - it's awful. And they're sore, hope this passes soon!

MyNameIsSuz · 13/08/2015 19:15

I just did the same thing Q! They do have some lovely things.

MrsEvansAlmost · 13/08/2015 20:13

hello, just asking for a friend who isn't on mumsnet and finds it a bit overwhelming, is there a march baby bus in Facebook that she could join please.

thanks Smile

JanineMelnitzGlasses · 13/08/2015 20:16

Yes Q I've had a horrible breakout on my back and shoulders. It looks awful & I'm on holiday in a couple of weeks so dreading vest tops and bikinis if it doesn't clear up.

Ohwoolballs · 13/08/2015 20:17

Evening lovelies,
Just had a quick read through. I haven't watched OBEM in a long time, I think I'll wait a few more months before delving in....

maybe my knockers are so huge they keep knocking things over Blush

Q yes to spot town. I was very nicely spot free when I got my BFP (which should probably have been a sign seen as I have very teenage skin) now I have lots of teeny ones all over my chest and bigger ones on my chin. Attractive or wot.

I'm not at work tomorrow and I'm allowing myself a few teeny sips of DHs wine while we watch the footy. I've had a hard week. This is bliss.

BeautifulLiar · 13/08/2015 20:19

Oh yes. I have a beauty of a spot on my forehead that just won't budge. It doesn't even have a head or anything Sad

I never used to wear maternity clothes, I'd like to but I'm too short at 5 foot, can't find many petite things!

maybebabybee · 13/08/2015 20:43

MrsE I do think there is a Facebook group yes but a lot of us on the thread this evening aren't on it I don't think.

Ladies, are any of you on the FB group too?

BeautifulLiar · 13/08/2015 21:10

I'm not on Facebook x

lilmisshopeful · 13/08/2015 21:19

I think quite a few of us aren't on the FB group-either waiting until after 12 weeks or staying out entirely

AdorabeezleWinterpop · 13/08/2015 21:30

The only perk of pregnancy for me (except the baby) is that my skin is much clearer. Unfortunately, as soon as I finish BFing, I get terrible cystic spots on my chin/neck (only on the right) that last for months. Strange but true.

MrsEvansAlmost · 13/08/2015 21:40

ok thanks just wondered. good luck ladies x

Me624 · 13/08/2015 21:40

Adora my skin has been much better too! I had terrible skin as a teenager which didn't really clear up until I went on the pill. I was on that for 11 years until I came off it to ttc and at the age of 27 suddenly found myself with horrible teenage skin again! It is totally hormonal, as it would be much worse at certain times of the month. Since my bfp, hardly any spots at all! Lovely.
