I think if you had opted out of the tests the NHS wouldn't have said anything.

I think I read yesterday the standard time frame is 11+3 to 13+something. And in early pregnancy a few days can make a huge difference.

See if you can bring your scan forward. They may have a cancellation they can offer you.

Unfortunately you're in limbo for a little while. I wish we could make this easier for you. x

Gingerlady123 · 31/08/2015 11:34

Than you.
I will try my hardest to bring it forward.
So hard when I feel so pregnant. Vomiting , sickness etc and it might all be at an end soon.
Better try some lunch I suppose skipped breakfast

IndomitabIe · 31/08/2015 11:36

Another way to think is that they're measuring a 2mm difference in an image made with sound waves through your skin, muscle, uterus, fluid, etc.

If it was that accurate to 2mm how on earth do they get those final weight measurements so wrong in later pregnancy? We've all heard stories of people being induced because their baby is too small and they end up pushing out an 8lb baby!

At this stage, it's one marker that suggests further investigation is necessary. It's not a diagnosis.

I just dug out my scan pic from DS's 12 week scan. I don't know which part they measure, but I can see on it how I could see a large NT if I was looking for it. But I'm not trained. And seeing patterns is what the human brain does.

QforCucumber · 31/08/2015 12:00

I was advised that babybond sonographers aren't fully trained in the medical side I things, literally just how to read an untrasound scan
If that is the case and she has just told you what she can see then you can't know anything until a medical professional has seen your details.
Can you contact your local epau and see if there's any way of pulling your appointment forward? Explain that you've had an early scan and we're advised of the nt reading and the stress is making you ill.

Gingerlady123 · 31/08/2015 12:23

Thanks I did measure a day ahead of my last two scans as well on this one.
My Epu requires referral either by a and e/gp/midwife.
Just praying baby is ok.
Limbo is the worst hopefully midwife will phone me back soon

lilmissiehopeful · 31/08/2015 12:43

Not caught up on all the recent posts sorry but there are so many very wise words here for you ginger. Apols if it's already been said but I'd imagine either your midwife or GP will give you an epu referral immediately when they hear the situation. You've been given incomplete (I'd almost say misleading) information about something so important about your baby and you are worried sick. There's no way you should have to wait until the 9th. Hope you can speak to either mw or GP first thing tomorrow if not sooner. Meanwhile sending many hugs and I hope the chat with your MiL has brought some peace of mind, or at least the sense that you have support not just from your dp and us MN ladies xx

sherazade · 31/08/2015 12:44

Ginger I hope you hear form your midwife soon!
I know this is trivisl but am mortified about going back to work tomorrow. Thankfully it's an inset day so I can wean myself into going back to school . I've spent the whole summer in bed, feeling sick, eating, sleeping, watching Netflix and tele and on Mumsnet. We teachers are sooo lucky to have spent our first trimester off work, seriously hats off to those of you who have been working . Don't know how I'll manage with a class full of 6-7 year olds, the thought is making me really nervous !

IndomitabIe · 31/08/2015 12:50

I'm with you Sher! It was the same for me last time with DS, I felt so terrible then I was glad I was off. (We then had OFSTED, hope not this time). I don't know how people manage work and the first trimester.

We are lucky that we have inset on thurs & fri and then the weekend.

I can't fathom how you'll deal with 6/7 year olds! At least my teenagers are in and out in an hour(ish). And have some understanding of the horrors of pregnancy!

Gingerlady123 · 31/08/2015 12:56

Sher- hope you feel better soon, it's horrible feeling so ill isn't it, like a constant bug for weeks on end. I find when I'm out I tend to feel better than being indoors all day and once I eat something I'm generally ok ish. Started on phenergan last night and feeling a bit better sickness wise today.
Seeing mil later on this evening and going out to dinner with partner and his brother just for a bit of normalacy. Might find a game to play until then.
Lilmis- hopefully they will push it forward. I think they will just can't wait to see the doctors who know about this kind of stuff. Hopefully my bloods will bring my overall risk down. Can I ask what you mean about misleading ? Is it possible the measurement is more like 3.5? Which is less worrying. It's very hard as she isn't medically qualified so it's not like I could get answers and discuss what to do like you could with a doctor,
Thanks ladies for all your wonderful support :)

sherazade · 31/08/2015 13:09

Ginger- hopefully your bloods AND the fact you are extremely young will bring your risk factors down. Glad you have a nice evening planned.
Am cooking in advance for the week so have spent the morning in the kitchen as I really want to maintain a balanced diet and when you're working and have children it ssoooo tempting to stick a pizza in the oven to get everyone fed quickly but I'd rather not. I'm also going to stock my desk drawer with healthy ish snacks to keep me going because I find that eating regularly is the only thing that keeps my sickness at bay.

IndomitabIe · 31/08/2015 13:17

Whereas I'm going to stick my drawer with mars bars and nice n spicy niknaks!

But DH cooks, so the most I'll have to do is make a sandwich for DS when we get in. Oh and clean. (Yeah right)

IndomitabIe · 31/08/2015 13:18

*stOck

sherazade · 31/08/2015 13:26

Indomitable- think am being ambitious and idealistic, when I told my mum about my intended healthy snack drawer she snorted and said 'you know what you've been like lately, think you're better off with bags of crisps and pop a bag of sliced bread in the staff fridge with a 'please do not take' sign on for when you fancy a spicy of toast !

sherazade · 31/08/2015 13:26

A spicy of toast ?? Auto correct aggggh *slice of toast

IndomitabIe · 31/08/2015 13:33

The way I see it, I'll be eating healthy dinners, and leftovers for lunch. Pregnancy is hard enough as it is, teaching is hard enough too. A few nice snacks will make the whole thing much more bearable!

And I'll be back to doing laps of my room, walking flipping miles to the nearest staff loo, might even drag myself out for a little walk run. Plus I really like chocolate and crisps!

lilmissiehopeful · 31/08/2015 13:48

ginger by misleading I was thinking of what you said about the sonographer giving off negative messages about the NT result when on its own it doesn't give the full picture of your risk I don't have any expertise in these things I'm afraid so don't know whether your NT measurement could have been inaccurate but hopefully you'll get some fuller answers from NHS medical progressionals very soon xx

BeautifulLiar · 31/08/2015 14:26

I'm also dreading going back to school, even though all I have to do is the school run. Still feel like rubbish.

AdorabeezleWinterpop · 31/08/2015 18:22

Oh gosh. Really dreading going back to school. I have spent today finishing off planning that I had intended to do weeks ago. I thought that the sickness would have gone by now and it was better to wait (ha!)

PD days tomorrow and Wednesday and then the class are in Thurs and Fri Sad. I just hope I don't vomit on them!

Me624 · 31/08/2015 18:31

Just checking in after a few days away from the thread as I'm on holiday.

Ginger I am so sorry to see about the NT news. When I had my 12 week scan the sonographer emphasised that the bloods is a very important part of the test. Fingers crossed they can fit you in sooner.

I had the teensiest bit of brown discharge yesterday. It totally freaked me out (haven't had anything like that so far and I'm 13+3) but reassured by the fact that it was brown, a really genuinely tiny amount, and I haven't had any more last night or today. It does mean I'm now on paranoid knicker checking. We're abroad all week, home Saturday, so there's nothing that can really be done anyway. Fingers crossed it won't repeat itself.

magpiedreams · 31/08/2015 19:39

Just checking in after no signal all weekend.

ginger so sorry to hear what a stressful time you're having. I agree with the others that you need the info in context and feel angry on your behalf that you've been given worrying info with no follow up. I guess that's the risk we take with private scans but it's not on of them really.

To all the teachers - good luck with the new term. I've got back to work blues after just a long weekend so goodness knows how you're feeling!

There was a bit if discussion further up about double prams ... To add my 2p-worth, there are 20m between my first two DC and I would not have survived without my Phil and Teds! Bought 2nd hand for £100 and recently sold for £60 after a lot of wear and tear. Cannot recommend it enough. I won't need a double this time as DD will be nearly 4 and is a good walker.

Have a good week everyone. I'm willing my nausea to subside but prob wishful thinking at only 10w Sad

Missdee2014 · 31/08/2015 20:34

On the subject of clothes size - mine were both in newborn until about 12 weeks also. Weighing 6lb and then 7lb 4oz. My 6lb dd was 3 months before she went into 0-3 clothes, 6 months for 3-6 months and followed that Trend of being a size behind right up until this year at the grand age of 11 ????

AdorabeezleWinterpop · 31/08/2015 20:44

I have no idea on what size clothes to get. There was almost 2lb difference between my two:
DD- 7lb 7oz
DS - 9lb 5oz

Let's just hope this one isn't 2lb heavier than DS Shock

Missdee2014 · 31/08/2015 23:19

I think I'll probably only buy a couple of things in anything less than 8lb in size, just incase. Can always send someone out for smaller stuff if need be, plus you end up with loads as gifts too.

missnatalie · 01/09/2015 05:12

Ginger sending positive vibes to you Flowers

I had my 12w scan yesterday. Bub was measuring 2 days ahead but they won't be changing my dates so I'm going off my dating scan dates. 12w5days today. Also had the NT test but won't get the results for that until next week as they have to combine the blood results with the scan results to be accurate. Baby was VERY wriggly. The sonographer had me keep moving positions. DS and DD came with me as well as DP. The DS was very interested where as DD couldn't of cared less. Baby was sucking his/her thumb and also gave us a little wave. I didn't get any pics but did get a disc of the whole scan. Only thing is that i need a windows computer to watch it and were all mac in this house :(

With pushchairs i couldn't of survived without my Phil&Teds. It travelled the world with me. Is a little on the heavy side but its a fantastic pushchair to have.

Ive had to dig out my dream genie pillow too. I'm finding it so difficult to get to sleep and to find a comfy position.

Finally told both sets of parents yesterday. Well i say told, i had to send them FB messages due to the time difference (8hrs). My phone was then pinging all throughout the night.

A couple of close friends also now know as they guessed. My belly popped out at the weekend so theres defiantly no more hiding it. Im in-between clothes. Mat clothes too big but my normal clothes are way too small.

IndomitabIe · 01/09/2015 06:30

Morning!

Good luck Adorbs - hope work takes your mind off feeling bad and is surprisingly ok.

Hope you can rearrange your scan today Ginger.

Oh man my £9 body pillow from Argos is the best thing ever! I had to wake up to turn over but in between I have been so comfortable! Thank you for whoever suggested Argos! How did I survive without this last time?! #revolutionary
