Hi Hope!

My husband and I have joked that this will probably be one of the few baby's that actually comes on its due date - more than likely as I am settling down to watch Christmas Day Doctor Who! At our second scan my husband thought he saw boy bits BUT I think we might me having a girl - one of us will be right!

Have you planned/bought much yet? So far I've been cautious (had a MMC in February so this was all very unexpected as it took us a year and a half to get to that point!) but have been buying clothing the last couple of weeks and made a mega wish list on places like Mothercare and Babies R Us.

sherbertlemon17 · 28/08/2015 14:48

Welcome cth! I know what you mean about the Xmas day baby thing. I'm due two weeks before you and I just know this baby will be 2 weeks late! It's typical in my family for women to be a week or 2 late.

We've bought quite a few bits, but I look at my list and can't believe how much there's still to buy!

So far we've got our pram, dresser/ changing area for the nursery, changing bag, assortment of clothes and a few blankets, we put up the cot we were given and picked up the crib we bought off eBay yesterday.

We also took advantage of the summer holidays and painted the nursery. Loving looking at all the bedding and accessories for it now! Makes it feel so much more real. Grin

sherbertlemon17 · 28/08/2015 14:50

Oh btw, congratulations sweep! A little girl! I bet you are all so excited, if not a little bit shocked! Haha!

LouiseGriffiths08 · 30/08/2015 16:12

Hi and thanks to sweep for inviting me to this group. I'm due December 19th, so a Christmas baby too, which will be our first child. Had my 20 week scan a few weeks ago and it's a boy ???? Currently feeling quite tired during the day, but otherwise ok. How is everyone else doing? Also trying to decide on Moses basket/crib/cot, so any advice/recommendations would be very much appreciated! Lou x

Queazy · 31/08/2015 07:16

Congratulations sweep and Louise! Welcome to the group Louise Smile I haven't been on much this week as app not working and keep realising need yet another new password! Hope you're all really well.

Have any of you had the whooping cough or flu vaccines yet? I can't remember when I'm supposed to book them in, and 23 weeks now.

It's SO wet here today. Mmm thinking of ways to keep a toddler amused...!

cth1982 · 31/08/2015 09:53

Welcome Louise!

Queazy it is 28 weeks for whooping cough - not sure about the flu one I think when they start offering it you just need to ring your GP's and they will confirm - miserable day in London Town but off to Homebase in a bit to buy some storage boxes - it's all glamour here today!

sherbertlemon17 · 31/08/2015 11:25

Hi Louise and congrats on your little boy! We've opted for a crib rather than a Moses basket. I've heard so much about babies outgrowing MBs so quickly, and the crib we have got seems much more roomy. Our bedroom isn't big enough to move a full size cot in to either, so that's what made our minds up really.

Yep, whooping cough is 28 weeks. Is everyone going to be having it? I will, but I know so many people who have either refused it or been dubious about getting it done.

Got an appointment with the cardiologist this week. Not really sure what to expect. Confused

Gillster · 31/08/2015 11:39

Morning ladies and welcome to Louise and cth. I've updated the spread sheet and added you both. Link to the sheet is at the start of the thread.

We were going to go to a big baby shop to do some proper pram research but they're not open on bank holidays - boo! So far we have bought absolutely nothing for this baby. I also still haven't felt much in the way of movements yet. I think there's plenty of stretching going on and may have felt some popping a couple of evenings ago but nothing conclusive yet.

Anyone else struggling to get comfy in bed at night?

OP posts:
LouiseGriffiths08 · 31/08/2015 12:04

Hi Gill, we still have nothing for baby either! Went to look at some bedding and prams etc today but shop was heaving, so have come away with only a catalogue! I'm starting to find sleeping quite difficult, mainly as I would normally sleep on my stomach and obviously can't do that now! Plus I have to get up at least twice a night for the loo! Find I'm compensating for that by having a nap in the afternoon when I can. Which has been fine this weekend but not when I go back to work tomorrow! x

NoArmaniNoPunani · 31/08/2015 12:06

I've got a big sausage shaped pregnancy pillow, using that is the only way I can get comfortable in bed.

We've already bought loads, stokke car seat and pram, snuz pod, cot and chest of drawers. We've decorated the nursery and done the wall stickers.

Fugghetaboutit · 31/08/2015 15:58

I just put a V pillow between my legs and that helps.
Baby is kicking like crazy here, if I bend over too much she doesn't like it and pokes me. Whenever ds talks near me she starts moving too. I feel big kicks after eating and drinking and at night if I wake.
I keep waking at 5am despite ds sleeping through! Must be hormones.

cth1982 · 31/08/2015 18:14

Thanks Gillster!

Am def getting whooping cough vac done - if LO got it after birth I would never forgive myself and as so many people are going without you don't know what is about now! I really don't want to get the flu one done but I'll just have to bite the bullet this year.

So far all I have bought is some clothes but have earmarked moses basket, crib and dresser set, pram and other bits and pieces- just need to buy them!

Queazy · 31/08/2015 19:12

Thanks all - I got the vaccinations last time and will do it again when the time comes.

We've bought a cheap crib but now debating the snuzpod or chicconext2me, as they look bigger to fit the sleepyhead mattress/cocoon thing in. Other than that, we have newborn stuff from dd and bought a Phil and teds pram from my SIL so might need to just use that now we've shelled out for it!! Embarrassingly we've never properly decorated dd's room, so promised myself once our building work is done in mid-Dec we'll get hers and nursery sorted Smile Let's see if that happens though...!

I found a pregnancy pillow really helped last time but thinking of getting one of those massive bolster pillows this time, as the dreamgenii one just feels too skinny (maybe says something about me this time round!!!)

Hope you've all had a lovely bank holiday xx

Gillster · 31/08/2015 22:25

Thanks for the tips ladies, we're visiting friends in 3 weeks and I think there may be a pregnancy pillow in the offing from them so going to try and hold on, although it is currently pillow-tastic in my bed!

Just bought our first baby related item - a room/bath thermometer. It was bought purely to get an Amazon order over £20 so we'd get free delivery! I guess the purchases will increase over the next few weeks.

sherbertlemon17 · 02/09/2015 18:25

I've got one of those V shaped pillows. Definitely helps me feel more comfortable in bed now. I don't know about anyone else, but I can the 3rd trimester is approaching. My lower back and hips are not good when I get to the end of the day and that pillow is a sleep saver!

Fugghetaboutit · 02/09/2015 19:18

My hips and back have started aching too, better when I keep active but I'm so tired I want to lie down ! Third tri towards the end was really hard for me, especially sleeping. Dreading it with a toddler tbh!
Has everyone got their buggys yet?

Tangoandcreditcards · 03/09/2015 10:38

Sorry not updated for ages. Hi all especially newbies.

queazy I had a dream genii last time too, but not loving it this time, just using extra pillows for between my knees etc. Creaking bones not TOO bad at the mo (trying not to tempt fate) but taking it pretty easy. Noticing that I'm waking up a bit more, but sleep not too bad at the mo (DS has been a horror this week though so hard to tell which of the blighters is keeping me up!)

We are going to get a new pushchair (baby jogger city) as DS's one is pretty knackered, but hoping there might be some good offers before xmas, so trying to wait a bit. Did buy some little vests from H&M as I was in there. Everything else we pretty much have already, it's the daunting boxes of jumbled baby-clothes-sort-through that's hanging over my head....

I have to say gill that I found the £80 amazon prime membership well worth it when DS was born, I ended up buying so many bits and bobs throughout the year and meant I knew when they were all coming and didn't have to pay any delivery (or leave the house too often) and you get nappy discounts.

Fugghetaboutit · 03/09/2015 11:31

Ok, so after dreaming that I gave birth to a boy - then waking and going on MN to see a thread about people being told girl at scan and having boys - I'm holding off from buying anymore girl stuff. Confused

cth1982 · 03/09/2015 12:40

I currently sleeping on double head pillows (trying to take the snoring down a notch - the glamour of pregnancy eh?) as well as two v shaped pillows either side of me to try and keep me and bump comfortable - I am finding though I get a real pain in the top of my leg from sleeping on my side - anybody else getting this?

DH and I are hoping to get down to road test some prams over the next couple of weeks although I think we have settled on the Silver Cross Wayferer as first preference.

Since I started buying clothes a couple of weeks ago the floodgates have been opened for my mum has started buying bits too - I think we're sorted for the first three months now at least!

ShakeATower · 04/09/2015 12:56

Sorry for being away for a while, have had an interesting time this end. Congats on the lovely scan news and welcome lou!

All is chugging along nicely here. We had our 25 week scan yesterday, which took almost two hours as the baby wasn't in the right position - I was made to walk around, jump on the spot, drink cold water and pee, but she just wasn't playing ball, so we're back again next Wednesday for another check. Hopefully all will be fine.

Pillow between the legs is my only advice for sleeping, I remember this bit from the first time around - it's exhausting, but not as exhausting as it will be in 3 months Grin.

Hope everyone else is doing well. Smile

roseformyrose · 04/09/2015 13:39

I'm on the pillow between the legs business too, have been for weeks! I think it really helps, except I often wake up hopelessly tangled in duvet and pillow.

Pram-wise I haven't got anything yet, but have seen some nice second hand iCandy ones on ebay so might go for one of those. I want to get everything in one (pram, carrycot, car seat etc) so will try and get a big second hand bundle. Virtually everything else has been kindly donated by my sister (perks of having 2 older siblings...)

sherbertlemon17 · 04/09/2015 19:02

Haha! rose that made me laugh! I know the 3am duvet pillow tangle all too well Hmm

We've gone for the iCandy strawberry 2. Would definitely recommend anyone thinking of getting it. Really lovely to handle, easy to fold, comes with carrycot suitable for overnight sleeping and the adapters to attach car seat. Can you tell how much I love it?? Wink

Tangoandcreditcards · 05/09/2015 10:57

Ah yes, an excellent 3am wake-up. This morning it was from a really horrible, gory dream and DS had a nappy leak so spent the rest of the night with him booting me in the throat or the bump; decisions decisions.
I'm starting to worry how we're going to cope with a baby keeping us up too, DS rarely sleeps through. I suppose it'll just work out, DP is at home so at least we can sleep in shifts...

Fugghetaboutit · 05/09/2015 19:21

How old is your ds, Tango?

Tangoandcreditcards · 06/09/2015 07:50

He's 19mo fugg. He'll be 2 in Feb. I can count on one hand the nights he's slept through. I can't help but feel we're due a good sleeper! Grin
