You can self refer to talking therapies on the NHS - the waiting list is long (I waited 12 weeks for my current round of CBT) but they might be able to prioritise you when you're pregnant - certainly worth asking. In my experience GPs aren't much help even when they're sympathetic.

Juniper404 · 09/08/2015 15:18

I had no stretch marks until 35 weeks or so last time. Didn't even know I had them until I looked in the mirror and saw them all under my bump! They faded really quickly and you can't see them now. I didn't use anything on them.

From what I read last time, stretch marks are in the deeper skin so using products on the surface won't help. It's mainly down to genetics.

I was lying in the bath last night, prodding the baby. It gave me a proper "get off me" kick to show its displeasure! Sorry baby!

Lookingforadvice123 · 09/08/2015 15:24

Thanks missmartin that's exactly what the doc did last time, offered me anti depressants! Although my anxiety can get quite bad I'm far from depressed, and wouldn't want to start taking medication unless it was really bad to the point of pushing me over the edge.

Just saw our little boy on screen Smile so lush. He's lying across me like I thought as I only ever feel him kicking on my right side. Saw his face and his little willy, definitely a boy!

SleepyDragon · 09/08/2015 16:38

Spydie there was barely even a smidge on there but it was sooooooo nice just to have the flavour lol!

Re: stretch marks, I haven't been putting anything on bump/boobs either but considering I am a 'lady of size' anyway I'm not too fussed about stretch marks, I have a few but they're silvery not red/purple so if I get a few more it's nothing new lol!

I have, however, discovered my skin on my arms, hands, legs and feet has gone really dry!

lilyb84 · 09/08/2015 16:39

Looking there are lots of similarities and shared symptoms with anxiety and depression, which is why a doctor would offer ADs. But effective treatment depends so much on the person. CBT can really help with the thought processes that cause anxiety so I'd always recommend giving it a go Smile

Haitch35 · 09/08/2015 17:06

Sleepy snap! My skin has gone really dry too, particularly on my legs and feet. I'm thinking I'll need to bulk-buy moisturiser if it carries on like this...

Pugmumlondon · 09/08/2015 17:11

Hi guys. Hope everyone has had good weekends.

We've been cleaning out in earnest today - DH in mourning because he finally realised that he will lose his 'study' aka computer room.

Congrats on the team pinks! I am counting down the weeks to my scan! Less than 4 weeks to go! Despite a fit of googling on sat I am feeling far less anxious.

To whoever was asking about exercise - I started again and now stopped. So tired and DH is a bloody nightmare at the moment, his latest obsession is that I mustn't squat down - instead must sit on my haunches. Which gives me pins and needles... Angry easier to give in to him re the exercise. May try swimming and still walking lots with dog.

In other news I just had the most perculiar sensation - a little pop right down near my pelvic bone. It was so odd - but I think I just felt my baby move for the first time!!!

Pugmumlondon · 09/08/2015 17:22

Ps. Probably tmi but...

I watched 50 shades last night as a) enjoyed the books - yes I know, trash! And b) thought it might ahem put me back into the right mood - have been a bit off 'it' lately.

But! It just made me cry. Am I just being a pregnancy freak!!??? Anyone else?

Blackandwhitecat3 · 09/08/2015 17:26

Looking I don't mind at all. CBT really worked for me. I've had a fair amount of therapy, not all of it helped. It really mattered to me what the therapist was like. I do Mindfulness Meditation too.

PM me if you'd like to know more. Happy to help if I can xxx

lilyb84 · 09/08/2015 17:28

Pug it was me asking about exercise since I pretty much do none!

But we went for a picnic and about an hour's (fairly tough, uphill) walk in the countryside today and I'm completely shattered now. Either I need to take it easier or get in better shape (know which I'd prefer to do.. Grin ).

lilyb84 · 09/08/2015 17:29

ps congrats on feeling baby move!!

FizzyPinkWine · 09/08/2015 19:17

Thanks for the new thread bee.
Haven't caught up on the end of thread 7, was away on holiday last week. Hope I haven't missed too much.
Sleepy, I think I'm going to have a B shaped bump too.
Got 20 week scan next Friday (21st), counting down the days!

Tonicandgin · 09/08/2015 19:27

Anyone else planning a home birth?

I am and I'm really excited about it. Had a lovely pool birth with dd, but trickiest part was the transfer (keeping in the Hypnobirth zone whilst going round roundabouts wasn't fun) so fancy staying put this time.

MissSMartin · 09/08/2015 19:53

tonic I'm low risk and a ftm and really want a home water birth but not one member of my family is supportive of this. . I only live a max of 10mins away from a hospital! my family annoy me lol x

Yokyil · 09/08/2015 20:53

tonic did you rate the hypnobirth? Sounds very serene - spoke to a few women who've done it during labour.

Getting quite painful cramps right under bump Sad and tmi full of wind and heartburn trying to demolish me! Not a good Sunday eve, Boo!

MaybeMrsMum2016 · 09/08/2015 21:09

I'm interested in checking out hypnobirthing techniques and things. Any info/tips would be great! DH is less than convinced about the whole hypno idea and he thinks I'll be rubbish with the labour pains too. Can't win!

Blackandwhitecat3 · 09/08/2015 21:29

Yes, tonic how was it? I've so far listened to one hypo birthing track, definitely like the approach, but does it cut the mustard once labour kicks in?

Tonicandgin · 09/08/2015 21:49

I worked hard at hypnobirthing (did it religiously every night a few weeks before and every other night before that). Dh was massively supportive and spent ages reading scripts (he also recorded them on my phone so he didn't have to do it every night) but it certainly paid off. I ate and drank in labour (which apparently is normal with Hypnobirths) and the midwife didn't believe I was in labour when I arrived, but I was 7cms, so she was pretty shocked.

We did a class which wasn't cheap but worth every penny. I was quite scared of birth beforehand (my mum had two emergency cs's and wasn't at all positive about it). I genuinely believe if it wasn't for hypnobirthing I'd have struggled, or at the very least I wouldn't have been nearly as positive about it all.

And it's not about having a drug free birth if you don't want one, but being empowered to make your own decisions and for your Dh to be able to be your advocate on the day. You can Hypnobirth through a cs, which I totally would if I needed one.

Anyway, dd's birth was with gas/air and a pool in hospital and I'd do it all again tomorrow. But would just prefer to stay at home..

Oysterbabe · 09/08/2015 22:08

I'm reading a book on hypnobirthing at the moment. Definitely worth a go I feel.

Blackandwhitecat3 · 09/08/2015 22:16

Just catching up on OBEM. Good catch Dad!

Wynsey · 09/08/2015 23:00

I actually can't believe we are on our 8th thread! Grin
Oysterbabe - I read your Top Tip out to DH - he said it's a great tip - he should really help!! Wink made me
Chuckle.
I've been using this Argan Oil with something else from TK Maxx it was only £4 for a big bottle and so far working well. My Bumps quite big - so much that people are properly having a feel when I'm out!! Not sure how I feel about it Confused
Just thinking tonight that I really want to go for a 4D scan. I just really want to see baby again!
I've had quite a lot of crampy feelings in my flower! Blush wasn't sure what it was but thankful to find out it's not just me!!
Has anyone else learned that they really don't like drunk people??? Lol
MissMartin - was it you that mentioned Mat Leave?? I'm already counting down the weeks!! Hahaha I already feel a feeling of i can't be bothered with anything! I'm finishing soon!! Grin

Chip86 · 09/08/2015 23:29

Last time I got more stretch marks on my legs then tum Confused

coffeenut · 10/08/2015 00:50

ugh monday morning.
stretchmarks - I think depend both on genetics and how much weight you put on and/or how big your bump is. I had nearly none with DD1 (smallish bump) and a huge number with DD2 (huge bump). I've read that creams might make the skin feel nice but they don't help prevent them (may help minimise though, not sure?). I used moisturiser both times (can't remember which sort, haven't used anything yet).
Arse and thighs really expanding here already. Ugh ugh ugh.
19 +1

hotcrossbun83 · 10/08/2015 05:42

I used palmers mainly last time and no stretch marks but I agree that it's mainly genetics. My skin itched from the stretching if it's dry though. Those suffering dry skin, e45 bath oil is amazing, only thing that sorts my awful flaky legs out

Tonicandgin · 10/08/2015 07:08

I was really lucky and had no stretch marks from dd (and was huge) I used sanctuary bump oil and the mw remarked how lovely and soft my skin was. Smelled lovely too.

But totally agree it's genetics, my mum has no stretch marks so I don't think it's anything to do with the lovely oil. (But I'm using it again just in case!)
